Good menu, attentive staff. Food is lovely and also have blackboard specials. Claim they have the best Parma in Melbourne. Judging on the quality of the meal I received, I would have to agree. Delicious, breaded well, and cooked to perfection. A week out from Christmas, thought it would be busier. Not much down this end of Spencer Street so that may be a reason. Certainly worth the trip to find this neighbourhood gem.

I didn’t know Australia sizes equates to Texas sizes! The servings here are enormous. We shared the appetizer platter and I swear that could have been an entrée to share. But it was so good. I’m sure I clogged several arteries after having that. My main entrée was the kangaroo. I’ve never had it before and it delicious. I was like a piece of lean steak, and seasoned so good.

This was another must for my Melbourne trip, the roadkill menu. But when we were there on Wednesday, they didn’t have it. From the regular menu, they were offering a venison dish. I decided to order the venison, while my partner the kangaroo steak. We also ordered the charcuterie plate. When the charcuterie plate came, it was huge. It included over 6 types of meats: a pork terrine, liver pâté, a fish portion, duck breast, kangaroo steak, and cured salmon. The plate alone was enough for 2 people to share of dinner. The liver pâté must have been a good 1 inch thick and about a size of a nice slice of pound cake. It was my favorite of all the choices. Fatty, fatty, and fatty. My venison dish was cooked nicely. The meat was nicely flavored and lean. My partners kangaroo steak was also very tasty. I enjoyed his more than mines. I was a little disappointed of not having the roadkill menu, as that was my original reason of visiting the Royal Mail. But the charcuterie plate and my venison made up for my disappointment. Stick with the charcuterie plate and see if you’re hungry after that. One man/woman cannot eat that alone.

If you want to have an ultimate culinary experience that is just about as Aussie as it gets(I’m not talking about Chicken Parmas here), then head on over to the Royal Mail on Spencer on a Wednesday night for their special«Roadkill night». That’s right, it’s meals under wheels as you eat everything that has fallen under cars and trucks of different Australian highways across the country the past week. «Roadkill» is actually just quite a clever marketing term they’ve used to grab your attention. The meat you do get though is some of the finest game and often hard to find throughout Australia. On the menu is roo, wild rabbit, camel, emu, Tasmanian possum, Flinders Island wallaby & mutton bird to name just a few. This is where I tried roo for the first time and had know idea they were eaten in Australia. I’m going to check this place out again the next Wednesday I have free.
