El Beso is a small and quaint Spanish Tapas joint located along Victoria St in the Darlinghurst area. It’s about a 5 minute walk from Kings Cross station. The restaurant isn’t very stand out from the exterior but inside it’s very much a Spanish style typical local one would expect in any local village in Espana. It’s simplistic but with Spanish themed décor and Muriel’s on the wall. The menu offers a range of antipasto platters, tapas in a number of varieties and various specials. The venue wasn’t very busy when I was here for lunch so I was expecting to be looked after quickly. The waiter was relatively attentive most of the time except when one of his mates came in. The food was tasty but the tapas sizes were a little on the small size. I tried three sliders tuna, chorizo and beef meat. The nicest of the dishes was the chorizo as it had a bit of spicy flavour to it. The others were average. I also ordered a stir fried vegetable salad which was delicious and the saving grace of my visit. Overall there are better Spanish restaurants in Sydney but wouldn’t say no to coming back and see if they can wow me.

Food is okay, service isn’t the greatest though. Came here with a group of 10 — it’s a really nice atmosphere with all the big windows opened up and you get the nice breeze flowing in We ordered a bunch of share plate tapas everything from potato bravas to deep fried white bait to chorizos cooked in cider to stuffed squid cooked in its own ink to mussels to pork ribs. Between the 10 of us we probably had most of the tapas dishes on the menu. It was all okay but not a standout. The best dish was probably the pork ribs cooked in honey and mustard. The potato bravas was unfortunately not as crunchy as I wanted. The least aesthetically appealing dish was the squid cooked in its own ink and unfortunately was also far too salty. We also had the churros and fried milk for dessert. Both were okay but nothing special. The service was a bit slow and confusing at time. E.g. we had a cheese platter served instead of the baked cheese. The staff don’t speak English too well so this may have been part of the confusion. They also didn’t write down the orders on a notepad which may have been the other cause of the confusion. Overall, I don’t think I’d return, there are definitely better Spanish places in Sydney.

I have dined here a few times. But I will not return! Nothing comes out at the same time, once I went and we ate the whole meal and finally the drinks came??? What the? The wait staff don’t speak the best English. Food is pretty good though, shame about the worst service I have ever received

El Beso is Spanish for The Kiss. The Kiss is welcoming, a little bit sexy and brings passion to the corner site of Victoria Street. We walked in by chance welcomed by the amazing smells wafting from the kitchen onto Victoria Street. The lights were low, the candles burning and the diners voices raised with expectation. The menu is inspired by Southern Spanish cooking. We were spoilt for choice with the menu boasting pages of meat, seafood and off the vine dishes. We asked for recommendations from the sultry Spanish waitress and she pointed us towards the garlic prawns, white bait, Spanish roasted potatoes, octopus(which was cooked to perfection) and a salad which had crispy cheese and walnuts. Washed down with glasses of Spanish white wine and jugs of Sangria we could not have asked for anything more. Loved the food, the wine and company. Can’t wait to go back for more El Beso.
