Coffee is ok. The barista was friendly and nice. A very rude Chinese wait staff is a bitch & rude

Great food, great coffee, great ambiance, friendly staff, conveniently located in the trendy suburb of Darlinghurst. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend the homemade sweet or savoury crumpets for breaky and the lamb & lentil salad for lunch. Yum!

This is one very cute spot in Sydney for a quick brekky. No wifi, although I still loved propping myself up to work from here one morning recently when visiting the city, before heading back to the airport. The staff were friendly but gave me my space, and the food/coffee was pretty ace. Not super cheap but the eggs with avo/goats cheese was delicious, and the coffee was exactly what I needed. Great little hole in the wall type. Definitely worth swinging by if you’re in that area and not sure where to go.

I visited The Bunker this morning for a catch-up with my cousin from Hong Kong… bit of a mixed experience. The atmosphere was as expected from the reviews — bit hipster/alternative, fitting with the surrounds. The coffee I had were great, but, I couldn’t really understand why my dish was called Mexican Boy. Apart from avocado, the menu description mentions the presence of salsa, but it really was just a few bits of chopped red onions, and they were quite separate from the halved cherry tomatoes — it sort of was a hint at guacamole and salsa, but it really is best described as the fresh ingredients(which were quite fresh) all being there rather than something which would be undeniably Mexican. Perhaps it’s something about the whole hipster theme which I’m missing, but fresh avocado pieces, onions and cherry tomatoes could really have pointed at any modern Australian dish. They also used bacon where I would have gone for the obvious choice of chorizo. So, let’s say if I was cooking there: the onions and the cherry tomatoes would have been chopped to form part of a proper salsa, maybe the avocado slices would have stayed as-is(maybe the lack of a «real deal look» was why it’s called«boy»), and the bacon would have been replaced with chopped chorizo, and the chorizo would have been made fried with the eggs which this café poached. I also ate part of my mum’s muffin, and boy was that good. The berries were ripe and there was a large piece of ricotta at the bottom… was an awesome way to finish the meal.

Hipster brunching in Darlo like a pro. This little spot in a nearby favourite that is always part of my unofficial(official) brunch rotation schedule. It gets busy later on weekends, but you don’t usually have to wait long to squeeze 2 – 3 people in here. They have bigger breakfast items if you’re hungry, or smaller items(around $ 10 or less) like mushrooms on toast if you want to keep it light. Keep an eye on the specials board for sure. Service can be a bit inconsistent, but everyone here is typically pretty friendly. You can pay at the register when you’re done.

Mmmm. One of those hole-in-the-wall cafes that’s probably always bustling and busy, with lots of sidewalk tables. I was here on a Sunday about 10am, and got in just before it got full. It’s clearly popular with locals. Coffee was nice. Service was decent. But breakfast was impressive: an omelette with huge slices of pork & fennel sausage, Grana Padano cheese, and caramelised onions, with toast, nearly busted my gut. Massive size, and massive taste. Yum. Casual, close, and neighbourhood-focused, it’s a great café stop.

Coming from Melbourne where there is an abundance of great coffee places I needed a nice little café to fulfill my coffee habits while my girlfriend spent a year living in Darlinghurst. Our first stop was Bunker and I wasn’t disappointed. One of my favourite places to enjoy breakfast and coffee outside on a warm Sydney morning.

For a hole-in-the-hole type café, bunker is as good as it gets. Generation hipster is in charge — a style that may not suits everyone taste — but they deliver. The food is very good(try their crumpets, pork belly sandwich, omelettes), the coffee is one of the best if not the best in this area(campos beans plus some speciality beans). Unlike many other ‘hipster’ places, the staff is super friendly. If there is a spot to sit outside and it’s sunny, you can’t go wrong, inside is not so nice, a bit cramped.

I really like this café. Nice area to sit outside and the iced tea is delicious! I have been known to walk great lengths just to drink it! Unfortunately they are not doing it now its winter. but they still have delicious tea/coffee and scrumptious meals!

Funky little café in the heart of Darlinghurst. It’s tiny, but there is also a space outside for seating, which is great when the sun is shining. The sandstone brick is beautiful, and whilst it is a small detail it does create a really cool atmosphere if you are looking to sit and chill. The coffee ain’t bad either. Coffee: Double Mac Bean: Campos Crema: Good 7.5÷10 Overall Taste: Good 7.5÷10 Served in: Latte glass(–1) Preparation: Reasonably well made, the latte glass is my pet hate — however the glass was pre-heated, which is usually my main beef… I’m not sure if this was intended, or just out of the dishwasher… either way, it made me happy :)

The food is good, fresh, healthy-definetely worth going for the sandwhiches alone. The coffee is ALWAYS burnt… for me. Seriously I go here with workmates and they will get coffee’s that aren’t burnt, mine will always be burnt. So 4 stars for food 0 stars for coffee.

While the breakfast and lunch dishes have been a hot topic amongst fellow food enthusiasts since this hold-in-the-wall café opened up earlier in the year, my first and recent visit took place on a hot spring afternoon when all that was required was a refreshing beverage. At 4 o’clock, there was no one left there and the staff looked like they were just about to shut up shop, but they were happy for my friends and I to take a seat nonetheless. Their carafe of iced tea was just what we were after to cool down — a chilled blend of slightly sweetened verbena tea(they add a bit of raw sugar when it’s hot, so the waiter tells me) a lemony herbal sort that they’ve added a huge wad of fresh mint to. Attention to detail is clear at this place, from the cute little teacups and saucer that arrive to pour our drinks into(each with three ice cubes) to the blackboard of specials. I’ll definitely be back here to try out a full meal soon.

Love, love, love, love this little spot and I damn near missed it — it was only due to the large salad that flew across my path that I looked up to see this tiny little hole in the wall café. It didn’t help my ‘street cred’ when I stopped in my tracks and perved over the aforementioned salad for an awkward amount of time before the barrista kindly(with as little judgement as noticeably possible) asked if I’d like to see a menu. It was the best decision I made all day — enjoying homemade sweet and savoury delights and a fantastic coffee under the large umbrellas outdoors. This is exactly what I had hoped to find in Sydney — quaint, low-key, friendly, delicious — and hey, here it is!

Its 4pm on a weekday and I was in Darlinghurst. I needed a coffee but all the cafes that I went to were closing — Forbes, Forte… That’s how I ended up at the Bunker. And now I’m kinda glad that the other cafes missed out on my business. My Campos coffee at The Bunker was beautifully made, and although the guy who served me was a bit spacey, the barista was prompt. The crowd is ultra cool and hot — the gay guys at the next table were very good looking lol. The clientele matches the café fitout — inside there were a few long tables with cool steel stools, a dark interior but was kinda cosy. Reflective of the name of the café, I guess. Sunny outside? Then sit under the trees on stools, keeping in line with the vibe at other cafes on Victoria St(ie. Coluzzi, Latteria etc). This is one of my new fave cafes — I’ll return to try the food!

This café just oozes cool. Considering it was a Monday mid-morning, the place was packed with elegant and sophisticated coffee-drinkers. Rumoured to be the coffee house of choice for Toby Maguire(of Spiderman fame) whilst he films The Great Gatsby, perhaps this would explain why it was so crowded. But then I tasted their peach and ricotta muffin, and I realised that it was their divine homemade snacks and gorgeous roasted coffee that was luring in the crowds, and not any hopes of a glimpse of Toby. As well as muffins, The Bunker offers a tempting range of sandwiches, cookies and pastries, all made daily in store. The décor is rustic, with plenty of wooden tables and chalkboards. The café might be considered dingy, were it not for the doors flung wide open on to the street, and the collection of tables and chairs arranged outside. The Bunker epitomises the Australian coffee culture — laid back, cool, but excellent quality coffee and food. A brilliant breakfast venue or break from shopping.
