History

Established in 2007.

Officially established in August 2007 where Absolute Salon took over. The physical location of the salon has it’s usual existing clientele from the previous owner, dating back in 1999.

Business Owner

Nearly a decade before Absolute Salon was ever established, Long was working as the head stylist at Violet’s Haircuts. While working, he also started teaching a few of his fellow peers. After months and months of giving casual advice, he realized, why not start teaching? This led him to pursue a part time career as an instructor at the Beauty College. After years of instructing at the college and working at Violet’s Haircuts, Long had soon developed a loyal following, not only from his clients, but students as well. As Long’s clientele list grew, so did his passion for success. Long always dreamt of having his own salon and having the freedom to serve his clients in a way that Violet’s Haircuts could only imagine. So when opportunity came knocking in the summer of 2007, he knew his vision was soon to become a reality. August 2007 launched a new beginning as Long and his brother Dustin united their talents and formed Absolute Salon.

A close friend referred me to this place and I had to see what this place is all about. Called in the day of I wanted to come in and Long the owner/​stylist had appointments available to get a haircut that day! I love how he isn’t in his own world and cuts, he takes time teaching about hair stuff, hair products, and whats his style is when cutting hair. Not use to standing up while he’s cutting hair but it does the trick! He listens and recommends what looks good and tries new ways that your comfortable with and does his magic until your satisfied. I use to drive to Sacramento for a haircut now I found my go-​to! I’ll def recommend Long and come back!

Long Nguyen here at Absolute Salon is amazing. He really listens to what you want in a haircut, and has great professionalism. Customer service here is always quick and efficient. The staff all have great personalities.
Onto the actual haircut. Long is very knowledgeable and has plenty of experience. When I say plenty, I mean years and years, both cutting and teaching. I always get a haircut that looks better than I expected here.

Long is THEE BEST!!! I’ve been coming here for almost 2 years now. But first off I would like to point out that I am cheap with my cuts and didn’t see the point of spending an arm and a leg on cuts that didn’t show much of a difference from my cheap cuts. Until I met Mr Long!
I started working next door, three of my coworkers get their cuts from absolute salon and I heard many things about everyone especially Mr Long! What sold me was when I heard that he’s an actual teacher at a beauty college! And has been a teacher for over 10years!
I finally got my haircut from him and WOW HE ACTUALLY LISTENS TO WHAT YOU WANT! If you want only an inch off, he’ll take ONLY an inch off. But he’ll make suggestions on why you should take more off. I love that about him, most people will just take more off without asking. He explains everything that he’s doing to my hair and does such a great job! Ever since then, I say «do whatever you want with my hair» even two years later, I’m always satisfied every single. damn. time!
Worth every penny! I actually went to Korea and got a terrible cut that was so bad and too short to even fix. Long did his magic and fixed it, I wanted to cry, HE HAS MAGICAL POWERS WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR!

I went in yesterday for my first cut with Long. My hair is very long, super fine and can’t hold a curl. I am alway hesitant about getting it cut, since I had someone cut it way too short before. He did an excellent job. He even took the time to explain why my hair doesn’t hold a curl and how to fix that! I walked out with my hair curled and full of volume. I highly recommend Absolute Salon. Check them out!

Mary is a magician. People pay $ 50 in this town for an elite level haircut. Absolute Salon charges chain haircut prices for top shelf hair care.
I always feel guilty when the time comes to pay, even with an 8 dollar tip I feel like I am ripping them off, so next time it will be a $ 10-​$ 15 tip.
I will continue to go to Mary. Kay and Long are excellent as well, but I’m picky, so I chose the master. Mary’s probably been doing hair for 40 years, and it shows.

We’ve been coming here for years now for men’s hair cuts, and once I received waxing services.
They are really nice people, and strive to please their customers. The owners work in the salon daily, so there’s no «Salon Nightmares» going on when upper management is absent (like I’ve seen in some other places).
I can only speak for the owner, Long, as far as my hubby’s haircuts, and Erica for waxing.
About Long: he’s good at listening to what the customer wants, he’s consistent, and he’s quick, but not to the point of rushing or making big mistakes. If I’m there and see something that I want changed, he does his best to do what I’m describing. Luv that!
About Erica: she listened to my thoughts about my skin, and previous experiences I’ve had that I didn’t want to repeat, as well as how my favorite esthetician (in Sacramento) does things for me. Her techniques seemed to work well with my skin as far as pain & «recovery», and the results were nice. There’s always a risk of ingrown hair after waxing, and for some reason after this visit, they were especially bad & numerous… however, that could have been coincidental rather than causal, ie. not at all related to anything Erica did or used, but just my time, if that makes sense, hah.

Another great experience at Absolute Salon! I cannot express how happy I am with this Salon. I came here back in December and had a great experience. Then, shaved my head so didn’t need a hair cut until recently — haha.
This is a family-​owned and operated business that truly cares about the customer.
It amazes me how the reviews are either 5 Star or 1 Star — I encourage the people who rated them so low to go back and give it another try.

I found Absolute Salon through an online deal and made an appointment to get a wax. The Salon was bright and clean. The waxing room is upstairs and it too was tidy. I was very impressed with the wax I received from Erica. Not only was she very through, and pleasant, the entire experience was pretty painless. I would go back again if I was in the area and in need of a touch-​up.

If you don’t feel like reading the whole post, I had to cancel dinner plans the evening I got my haircut. I’m male, not dramatic, don’t care about my hair that much (usually just roll out of bed, never style even when wet just let it dry however it is). Enough said.
But if you need more…
Wish I knew how to post pictures on here, absolutely awful. Uneven, jagged, tufts of hair sticking out, you name it, just atrocious. Not sure how they do on female haircuts but males don’t bother even if its $ 10−−30 cheaper than other places you’ll most likely end up shaving it or going elsewhere. The worst part is they thought it was a great haircut and kept saying you just need to train your hair to go into the right positions blah, blah, blah. I didn’t even ask for something I hadn’t tried before just my usual haircut. Unfortunately the guy I went to before isn’t around anymore and I read decent reviews about Absolute and saw they had decent pricing. My hair is not that hard to cut, it’s thick and I have a cowlick but previous people have never had a problem. People there are nice felt bad not paying so I sacked it up, paid, and left with no intent of going back.

Absolute Salon is amazing! Kay cut my hair perfect. I love it! I’m now heading out to Miami for Miami Fashion week. I can’t wait to go down the red carpet with my new hair cut.

I have been avoiding a haircut for such a long time (over a year). I have really long thick hair and don’t trust many people with it. My last haircut was pretty much a disaster and for that, I have not gone back to a salon since. This weekend I decided with Christmas coming, I better get my mange cleaned up before I visit my family.
A friend of mine who keeps a similar hairstyle (long, dark, straight hair) referred me to Erica here at Absolute. I called and was able to get an appointment same day! Even though I came in right before closing Erica made sure to take her time with me. All of my salon anxiety immediately disappeared when I sat down with Erica; she was so sweet and real. She listened to what I wanted and cut my hair PERFECTLY. I couldn’t have asked for a more trustworthy stylist. I even received a few compliments on my hair and the way it was cut while I was running errands later that day. Thanks Erica!
I was also really impressed with the salon itself. It was very clean, well set up, roomy and prices seemed pretty decent. I will be back!

I’ve been going here for FOUR years now… and I am still impressed by their 5 star service. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful but I get my haircuts by Long, so let’s focus on him for a minute mmmkay?
I don’t know what else to say other than he’s brilliant. He knows how to cut hair– for your hair. What do I mean? I have a LOT of hair. but it’s fine-​normal. In fact, Long is the first person to tell me my hair is in fact fine. Everyone else said my hair was thick-​coarse. which is probably why my haircuts always looked like crap. Long always asks, what do you want me to do to your hair? and I actually get annoyed because, shit, what do I know? I just say (again) do what you do. And he does. And it looks fabulous.
I don’t wear hair products on any sort of regular basis and Long doesn’t push them on me, but once in a while he’ll say, you HAVE to try this. So I do. and it’ll be some awesome, delicious smelling stuff. and I’ll end up buying it, because it really does do what it says it will.
My hair is naturally curly and was the bane of my existence until I met Long. Now it’s easy to manage and I get people randomly saying my hair looks good, asking where I get it done. even on days where I just let it air dry, which is most, cuz I’m lazy.
I found Absolute Salon because of Unilocal,so it’s only fitting that in turn, I Unilocal as well. Don’t be afraid to try a new place folks. My ex bf gets his hair cut by Long and one of my coworkers now as well. Everyone is happy. I’m sure you will be too!

My appointment with Mary was a disaster. I feel kind of bad about this because Mary seems like such a sweet lady but maybe she shouldn’t be cutting hair. I asked for this (and brought in a picture of it):

. It is so short and so OLD looking. I’m thirty and now I look like a suburban mom circa 1970. I realize that I am not Paris Hilton but this is miles from what I asked for. I wanted a razor cut that would be kind of shaggy and edgy at the ends. Now I have no ends, just some short poof thing that is three inches shorter than I asked.
This is my last attempt to get a chic cut in Walnut Creek. I’ll make the trek out to SF thank you very much.

So… What’s the difference between a $ 35 hair cut and a $ 15 haircut. It’s consistency and passion. Long is a phenomenal genius granted that I came here due to most of the places being closed or busy, but I’m glad that I did. granted that being still in college and a guy I don’t regularly get costly hair cuts.
Long was very friendly and knowledgeable of his craft. He was honest about my previous cut and told me tips on how to make my hair look better. One thing that I did like was he readily gave out tips and his own opinion. Usually when I go to a hair stylist and am feeling a bit adventurous and say, «Do what ever you think looks good.» rarely does a stylist give their advice and often they return my word with a blank stare.
I would highly recommend him to any one that wants an excellent haircut and would like to pay for it. The difference between $ 15 hair cut and a more expensive one is that the more expensive one the stylist has their own opinion and has a higher level of consistency.

My sister recommended this place to me over winter break because I desperately needed a trim. Kay was great, very accommodating of how attached I am to my hair (she didn’t cut off 10 inches instead of 1, even though I probably need it!).
Loved how she styled my hair, and she’s such a friendly person. Everyone in the salon is welcoming, and the atmosphere is peaceful and very family-​like.
Price is also very reasonable, especially compared to NYC salons. Makes me miss California!

Long Nguyen is a genius. He knows so much about hair and how it’s structures your face and what cut would look best on you. I came here to fix the mess that an Oakland Chinatown salon had done to my hair. I had uneven, chunky layers that did not compliment my face well at all. Long worked his magic by thinning out my layers and gave me a more symmetrical cut. He explained every step before he did anything and was very thorough when asking what kind of look i wanted. I’m very satisfied with how my hair looks now.
Back in March of this year, i had the pleasure of having Mary cut my hair. She gave me long, beautiful layers that even looked great when my hair started growing out… then i made the terrible mistake of getting a «simple» trim at a Chinatown salon with some dude that did now know what the heck he was doing. Never again will i sacrifice cost for quality. Long does charge a little more than the other stylists there, but i think he’s worth the money. Mary is also really skilled in her craft and i will probably return to her when my hair starts growing out again since she does such a great job and her asking price is cheaper than Long’s.
