Dairy Queen is never a bad idea. Close to the beach and beach showers. Only downer was that the guy serving was kind of rude and there was one person working which kind of held things up.

Meh, typical beach side tourist trap drek. We only tried it because it was a short walk down the concrete walk from our hotel plus the amount of coupons that we either had or had seen from them was obscene. So like a lemming over the side of a cliff or like a moth to a bug zapper we gave this DQ a try on a slow Tuesday night. Upon our arrival the place is deserted and the two employees clearly look annoyed that we’re about to make them move versus talking, playing with their phones & screwing around. Apparently the VA Beach area is rationing ice cream and peanut butter or at least DQ thinks they should be because when you say small, what they give you is small. Even after the coupon the other three small items we got came to something like $ 12 or $ 13 dollars which for three things is cray-cray, highway robbery, extortionistic pricing for what you get in terms of size, quality or the ‘tude from the inept staff.

Eastern European workers have good English but need to brush up on menu. I asked several times what is in a turtle blizzard and was told bananas and coconut. I said could you please ask to be sure and she said no. So I waited for clerk at other window and she got it right: chocolate, caramel and pecans.

A great place to park, get some ice cream, and then take a stroll on the beach. I’m not sure if the parking enforcement is strict about the length of time you can park, but I’ve spent about an hour in a space without any tickets. The spaces are not plentiful, but I haven’t had trouble finding at least one usable spot. If you’re looking to sit and look at the water for a few moments, this is a great place to go to. The staff has always been friendly, even when I’ve gone in the middle of late night storm.(Don’t ask, just run with it.) I’m rather partial to their chocolate dipped cones and can’t speak on any of the other items. There is a public restroom nearby that I assume closes at sunset.

Assistant managers hands were wet as he served customers. Hard to tell if they were clean or not. I am a local and understand the local economics of business at the ocean front, but 12 dollars for a small sundae and a medium blizzard is a rip off. I had a full breakfast and endless coffee at the restaurant next door, I was seated and had a table for that price. The nuts in my sundae were not even chopped up.

Want your frozen dairy treat with a side of East European summer worker? Go here, NOW! Just steps away from the beach, prices are elevated due to beach location – but still Dairy Queen goodness.
