Econo Lodge Virginia Beach – On the Ocean

I booked this hotel through
the day of my arrival in February. Originally I was only staying one night but my plans changed. They were able to allow me to stay in the same room for a couple dollars more than I had originally booked for. The room had a beautiful balcony overlooking the beach. It was clean and comfortable. The staff was amazing and accommodating. If you stay here for even a night, don’t underestimate the shower, as it was the most awesome shower I have ever had in a hotel. Hot and powerful. The continental breakfast was nice and the WiFi was strong. I was able to get some work done while I was there. My only gripe was the pastries at breakfast were a bit stale and the air unit only blew hot air. I like to sleep with the sound of the fan running and I was quickly overcome with the heat in the room. A fan option would have been nicer. Overall, I’d stay here again without a doubt.

My wife and I were able to rent a room with an ocean view without a reservation the night before Thanksgiving, and upgrade to an apartment with an oven on Thanksgiving Day, where she cooked our Thanksgiving Dinner. The apartment had a separate bedroom and bathroom, with a full kitchen off the living room, and a smoking table on the deck over the outdoor pool. We felt so at home we would have stayed longer if we had not already had prior commitments. I am considering moving back in and asking for a monthly rate.

To me, this hotel has it all. This is our second year here, and although it’s expensive to come on a holiday weekend and there’s a 4 night minimum, the location and convenience cannot be beat and the staff could not be friendlier!

I’m giving this hotel 2 stars for the location. This hotel needs a major upgrade immediately! I was charged 332.00 for two nights. Which it should have been 200.00! Ok let’s start with the small room. Has a great view. The curtains, the corners of the bathroom have dust. I’m no talking about the normal dust I mean cakes of dust. The otherside of the curtain was filthy. Food stains? When I researched this hotel it look a little decent. I will have to pay more for better next year. Oh and how I forget the continental breakfast it is not! I’m a meat eater soo I thought that includes meat. No bacon no sausage only thing was a boiled egg cereal Belgium waffles bagels and muffins also yogurt. I’m still hungry

Just got back from a couple days there in a two part trip. The updates look nice, seems that since October of 14 they changed the carpet and mirrors in the bathroom. Still a great place to stay.

This small hotel is a great value for the off season. I had a clean and comfortable room overlooking the beach with free breakfast and bikes included and a staff that cares and wants to make sure that you are happy. Location is perfect, I felt very safe. Given the overall value, I would not hesitate to book again.

This is a budget friendly hotel and the staff are very accommodating. Unfortunately, there is major construction work occurring on the lot next-​door with an active piledriver during the day, including the weekend – see picture. That’s right, I said a piledriver! It’s about 40 yards away. My bed is actually shaking with each drive. Boom, boom, boom! Of course, that’s not the fault of this hotel’s management. But It did impact our stay. You would be best advised to call the front desk before making reservations to ask if the construction work next-​door has been completed. If not, then steer clear.

Receptionist had an attitude the minute we walked in. Slamming papers at us to sign like we are beggars and we’re coming to a shelter to spend the night!!! We get our keys And car pass. We go to the room to find a nice big Bedbug waiting for us to welcome us with a smile. My instinct immediately to inspect the room and take pictures. I found dead bugs everywhere. Long story short. The receptionist denied none of the bugs were in the room, sent the maintenance guy in. And on top of all this frustration she yells out while I was leaving with the maintenance guy to check the room (YOUR RESERVATION IS NON REFUNDABLE ANYWAY) in front of everyone. Anyways the guy was very nice and understanding, he escorted us to the room, checked everything and called the owner of the hotel and handed me the phone. The owner was apologetic and made sure I got my money back.

We were here for two nights and had a great stay! The location is perfect with a great view of the beach, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the room was quiet and clean. They make you sign a statement saying that you will not party so this is a perfect family hotel. The only negatives were that the pool was dirty, nothing substantial was served for breakfast (mostly just pastries and cereal), and parking was a little difficult in the small lot. All these things were easily overlooked. We felt welcomed and loved the room. I woułd highly recommend this hotel.

just finished a 4 day stay here and I have to say I’m very pleased. The room was very clean, the staff very friendly and the location is phenomenal. only reason why I’m not giving it five stars is because it’s not the flashiest hotel. but, looks can be deceiving. I got a room on the first floor which has a door that let’s you right out to the boardwalk. the continental breakfast is quite good also. fresh bagels and muffins every morning. I would definitely stay here again.

I never thought I’d give an Econo Lodge 5 stars but this place deserves it. Clean. Smelled nice. Amazing location. Fresh pastries for continental breakfast. Clean pool. Super friendly staff. They’re also one of the very few hotels on the boardwalk that has rooms that walk out onto the boardwalk. Super convenient! If you’re looking for a place to lay your head and clean up, you can’t beat this place. Also, the price is great all things considered. We will absolutely be back.

Very good value option. 3 story walkup motel with oceanfront views, balconies, a moderate sized outdoor swimming pool, complimentary OJ, coffee, cereal, bagels in the morning, free wifi. it’s a fairly basic no frills old school motel, but the staff are friendly and the location is good; within walking distance of numerous bars and restaurants, a short walk from the Neptune statue and the old coast guard post museum. there is quite nice bar and restaurant across the street, cactus jacks or smtg like that. 1 parking space per guest.

We visited this motel in the off-​season (early March) and we were pleasantly surprised. We got a clean and quiet ocean front room for $ 50 and change. While this place is low frills, it is great for a budget traveller that wants a great view.

I had a really great stay here! The staff was really great and the ocean front view was the best! I was here for two fun filled days and was treated like family! You will love the staff and beach!

We recently spent three nights in the Econo Lodge on the Ocean over an off-​season weekend, and the experience was lovely. The motel might not be the grandest lodging on the water, but it offers a clean, affordable stay with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean — exactly right for a romantic weekend away, escape with friends, or family trip to the beach.
The motel itself is easy to miss — a three-​story job, it’s one of the smallest on the water! Come in on I-​264 and make a left on Atlantic Avenue. Skip the first Econo Lodge you come to – that’s not the right one — and look for the red sign on your right, just south of the Best Western. There’s a small parking lot and a covered driveway where you can pull through and check in.
The check-​in process was quick and uneventful. The lady at the front desk was friendly, cracking a few jokes (or were they come-​ons?) and getting us set for our stay. After quite a few pieces of paperwork, we received keys to the room, parking pass, and the other standard hotel accoutrements.
The rooms here are aging, but very clean. Our King room came with a sleeper sofa, and some other furniture and a television. Despite a few chips in the bathroom counter and some pilling on an old comforter, everything certainly met expectations and we felt comfortable calling the room our temporary home right away. The bed was comfortable and there were lots of pillows, a definite plus. A door led out onto the private balcony, a stone’s throw from the boardwalk. Any ocean view is breathtaking, and this was no exception.
One minor niggle was the door to the room, which was surprisingly difficult to close. Before we realized it took an extra tug to secure, it actually blew open while we were sitting around unpacking! It would be an unpleasant surprise to have that happen in the middle of the night. The balcony door was somewhat tough to close, too. We think it might have to do with the airflow through the room.
The continental breakfast runs until 10:00am, and the later time is nice. There isn’t much room to eat in the small lobby, but trays are on hand so you can take your food back to your balcony and enjoy a snack with the view. The hotel served milk, orange juice, cereal, bagels with cream cheese and peanut butter, danishes and mini-​muffins, fruit, and coffee and tea, more than enough to fill up on.
One of the coolest benefits of this hotel was the free bike rental offered! About 15 beat-​up beach bikes sit outside of the lobby and are available for hour-​long rentals for free. Since it was a quiet time in the off-​season, the front desk kindly looked the other way while we kept the bikes past the return time, but I suspect they wouldn’t be so friendly if there was a wait. On bike, it’s easy to travel to both ends of the boardwalk and also navigate along Atlantic and Pacific Avenues.
You’ll partly want to explore on bike, too, because the area surrounding the Econo Lodge seems to be one of the nicer areas on the boardwalk. We felt particularly safe around the hotel and got a sense that we had decided on a hotel in the right place. Attractions aren’t far.
All in all, I would recommend the Econo Lodge for anyone looking to stay on the oceanfront without breaking the bank. At around $ 65, tax inclusive, per night, plus the bikes and breakfast, it felt like a steal compared to nearby hotels offering nightly rates twice as high. Even though the hotel isn’t sparkling or eyecatching, none of this really detracts from it providing a great staging ground for a lovely time. If you’re looking for something reliable but that feels a little less like a motel, though, consider the Best Western Plus, right next door.
