History

Established in 2003.

China Beach Bistro is named after the beach My Khe, also referred to as China Beach located in the South China Sea along the coast of Da Nang, Vietnam. Da Nang is the city of my birth and heritage.

This location was the only offered to me sole based on an interview with the landlord. It was a true hole in a wall initially. There were four tables inside and five patio tables. Not enough power to have air conditioning. With the dedication of the staff and the loyalty of our patrons, we took over the adjoining premise and doubled in size come Summer if 2008. Air condition allows for actual sit downs.

China Beach is now a local destination point in Venice.

Meet the Business Owner

Hiep L.

Business Owner

With no prior restaurant experience, armed only with knowledge in my hometown cuisine and my passion for food, I set forth to showcase my vision to the Westside. For four years, I could not get any landlord to give me a lease. But just as I was to give up, a Holocaust survivor to give me a chance. I signed the lease based on his trust and belief in me.

It was a rough road, but I had luck on my side. I made more mistakes than anyone could make in a business venture. And like my landlord, the locals somehow put their faith in me. They supported me through my mishaps (constant staff turn-over, moody cooks, no air conditioning, etc), I finally prevailed.

China Beach Bistro is a baby born and raised in Venice, by the people of Venice.
