Le Cellier

They’ve added steak and chicken phở to their menu… one of the best phở I’ve had in LA! Everything else on their menu is also delicious. I really recommend the filet minion lemongrass noodle soup (a version of Bun Bo Hue). The staff is also super nice and friendly.

I was really hoping this would be a hidden viet gem on the westside, especially after reading all the positive reviews, but it was such a let down. I think Le Cellier wants to be a fancy french/​viet restaurant/​wine bar but they don’t have the food or presentation to back it up. I was thinking WTF as each dish came out. WTF because it was a portion made for ants or because it was just wasn’t good. I understand how everything is more expensive on the westside but that doesn’t make it ok to charge an arm and a leg just because you can. We came with a big group and ordered a bunch to share.
— Fried shrimp mini nem: these would’ve been good if they were bigger but they’re literally smaller than a vienna sausage. it was basically three skinny, tiny egg rolls cut in half when they basically equaled one normal egg roll. if it was 3 dollars, maybe, but $ 6? you’re outta your mind.
— Melted brie cheese: literally three little pieces of brie on three little baguette slices with A walnut and a piece of plum. again, not worth it. nothing special about it and the cheese wasn’t even melted.
— Vietnamese Open Faced Rice Ravioli: this wasn’t bad but it seemed like a confused dish, like a banh beo but with dumpling filling plopped on top.
— Pork ribs: felt like these were reheated and they were bland
— Tiger shrimps on wok fired hu tieu noodles: this dish was bland with random vegetables and a side of salad mix which was strange. DEFINITELY NOT worth $ 17.
— phở: not bad but not $ 10 good.
I feel like anyone who gave this place a good review, has not eaten viet food outside of the westside or they’re somehow associated with the owners. I think this restaurant would do much better if they kept it simple and charged reasonable prices. Please redo your menu, Le Cellier!

Great food, excellent atmosphere, great wine! The service was excellent and we enjoyed the early afternoon vibe here very much. Highly recommend the fried shrimp appetizer and the wine tasting/​flight set up. Have to do it!

Toby was beyond amazing and made our first experience at this restaurant remarkable. We can’t wait to come back and try more on be menu. A must try!

Immensely overpriced and mediocre. We (party of 3) ordered appetizers, one round of wine and deserts and ended up with a $ 141 bill (ex tips). Seriously, what??!
The food, which is a combo of French/​Vietnamese (??), is nothing special but presented in a weird pretentious way. I couldn’t taste any passion from either the French or Vietnamese cuisine.
The portion were way, way too small for what you pay.
The waiter was very nice and helpful. The place was entirely empty on a Saturday evening. Maybe that was a sign we wrongfully ignored.
I shall never return.

This is my absolute go-​to for Vietnamese food. It’s honestly amazing. For lunch their bahn-​mi sandwiches are amazing. There are 6 of them or so, my favorite is the charcuterie.
They also have an amazing dinner menu. Just had the open faced ravioli, so good!
The thing is, this place is always so wide open. I have no idea why it’s not packed but I guess it works in my favor. Best seat in the house every time I come.
The staff is amazing, the food is amazing. If I could give them a 6 I would.

5+++ It’s a wonderful place where you can find whatever you want, or beer-​party with your friends or romantic dinner with your girlfriend. Staff is friendly on the highest level, so you can feel like you come to your friends to be like a guest but not just a customer! Food was delicious from the appetizers to the main menu. Will advice this place to all my friends.

I absolutely love this place. I believe it’s the owner he is so amazing so sweet. I’m from Fresno and any time I’m come into town I will stop here.

This is a Washington gem.
Very cute on the inside, spacious, with a warm lighting.
Ample bar seating available. Had the pleasure of speaking with one of the owners, the Frenchman. He was full of fun knowledge and very nice to chat with.
I had the bison phở, it was very good. The in house made chili is best, but also spiciest. I am looking forward to coming back here!

Service was good. She was attentive and nice.
Most of the dishes were not up to par, considering the price.
Started with the French Charcuterie. The bread was soft and fresh.
The Crêpe app was so small. The size of a street taco. The chicken inside seemed akin to sliced deli meat.
The Lemon Grass Filet in the soup was very tender and was nice dipped in the fish sauce. The broth of the soup was incredibly bland and served on the lukewarm side. I was hungry so I persevered through about half. Paid $ 18 for delicious beef and water :/​Lord, I’m an idiot for paying THAT much for a noodle soup, ha!
The presentation and taste of the duck was lacking. It was a scoop of rice, duck medallions in the center, some green beans on top of a sauce that looked like baby food.
So $ 120+tip later and we won’t be back.

It was a pleasant surprise today when we had a family lunch.
I am a foodie and a picky one, and was very sceptical at first, because of touristy location where usually all restaurateurs do not expect to have clientele, but food was really good, except the appetizers (that is why one star is off).
We tried four different main dishes: duck, two different pork dishes and beef medallions. All were very good!
Servise is also was good and attentive, but décor looks pretty cheep. For me the food is more important than the décor, so I definetely recomnend to visit this place and give it a try.

Had a impromptu lunch w my husband here and loved it! The guys working there are friendly and very knowledgable. We ordered the wine flight and food pairing, along with an order of the lamb. The owner (i think) came and gave us some info about the wines and pairings which was pretty neat. And the lamb was absolutely AMAZING!!! The best lamb I’ve had in a looooong time. Will for sure be back :)

Liked this place. Nice ambience. Good service. Food was above average in my opinion. They deserve 4 stars in taste, presentation, quality and service.

Superb French/​Vietnamese owned and operated by people who care about their food and their customers. Bravo.
My wife and I rented a bike in Santa Monica and biked down to the end of the Marina Del Ray Canal. On the way back, we saw this restaurant. I Unilocaled it and saw the nice reviews and images.
Food was delicious. We tried the open ravioli, crab cake apps, and for mains, Vietnamese salad and turmeric fish. All were hits. Too bad we could not eat more!

I’m so thankful that this place popped onto my radar during DineLA week. What a gem that I never knew about! The ambiance is nice and quite unique. The service was attentive and on-​point. And the food… oh the food… for a $ 15 lunch you’re going to give me a glass of wine, an appetizer and a main? Sold!
We had the salmon gravlax — a delicous, balanced and refreshing little bit — and a special edition of some sort of pancake with delicious chicken and one of the best sauces I’ve ever tasted. For the mains, we had bison meatball phở — a delicately flavored broth with some pretty tasty meatballs, the kind of thing I’m sure could cure me were I feeling under the weather — and the duck rillette bahn mi, which was a spin on bahn mi that I’ve never envisioned but sure am glad their chef did!!!
And, to finish it all, this place actually makes their dessert and it’s not just a throw-​away at the end to get a few more bucks off those with a sweet tooth. The hazelnut cake with berries was a delight — sweet but balanced by the dark ganache and tangy berries.
I WILL be coming back!!!

The owner is just great (assuming the keener at the bar is him). Knows his stuff, loves food and wine, had a ton of fun suggestions. Beverages and food (just did apps) and it was great.

A neighborhood bar bistro it is! Food is delicious and presentation is good! The service can improve but it’s effective now! The menu has varieties to interest a few returns but definitely a good place to meet and eat and enjoy life!

Did you know you can’t put a plate where there’s already a plate? I would’ve given this place 4 stars for the food but the combination of poor service, frozen cream puffs, and pie of the day just defined as «it’s chicken» took this place down. Get some better servers and maybe people will come back.

Our server, Michelle (I believe this is her name), was bad from start to finish. When we sat down, There was an apron on my chair and when I asked her what to do with this she said «well it’s not mine.» Then she said to «just put it on another chair.» I was a bit thrown off because she would not just take it. When I walked her for more wine menus she said «that’s all we have.» I think she thought I said wines… She only re-​filled one persons water all night. The bus girls were not great either. We were cleaning up our own plates all night. Overall, it seems like the main owner was really sincere, but servers were horrible! Also, 21% gratuity even though we had horrible service. Not coming back here again… The food wasn’t good enough to convince me to come back.

First off, the menu isn’t the easiest thing to understand so I wanted to ask our server a couple questions but with the language barrier, it was simply to hard to understand anything to ask any questions. I tried to ask about happy hour and couldn’t get any answer so that was a bit frustrating. They were nice though and really did try their best.
I tried the phở and really loved it. I got it with thin slices beef and it was delicious. Very cheap too. Like 11 dollars for a decent sized bowl too.

The good side is everyone is nice hear and tries to do their best. For me this was a 3 ½ Star experience but I will give them the benefit because they were nice. If you have a waitress that speaks very little English it makes it quite hard to ask questions about specific details for the items on the menu. Maybe she should ask from someone who can help her communicate? The Seafood Soup was good but it had one piece of shrimp and very little salmon. If you are going to charge $ 17 for a bowl of soup please don’t skimp on the main indigence. Not sure if I will be back.

Here’s the thing, I grew up on Vietnamese food and my father’s two things that he’ll happily go out to eat are pizza and Vietnamese food.
We’ve never paid more than $ 7 for a bowl of phở (except in Europe because everything is more expensive there). An $ 11 bowl of phở in Southern California is an outrageous thought. An $ 18 bowl of bun bo hue… let’s just say that the earth would swallow me whole before I paid that much for it. My mother nearly choked when I told her. That better be some crazy fine dining shit.
My friends live in the area and love it, but I was suspicious. I’m usually suspicious of Vietnamese food recommendations by people who aren’t Vietnamese/haven’t eaten the food extensively for a prolonged period of time. That sensitivity and differentiation just isn’t developed. Much as I would say, I’m not well versed in different middle eastern cuisines nor do I know when I’ve eaten a proper meal unless someone who has tells me so. It was with great trepidation that I ate there.
My friends and I ordered the foie gras du canard as an appetizer, which is really hard to mess up. Honestly, the foie gras does all the heavy lifting without requiring any help and are best left to their own devices anyway.
We followed this with bowls of phở. Broth bland. Bowl unappetizing. If this is the best the West Side has to offer as so many people tout, I’ll just make the drive. At this point, driving for good food makes all the sense. There’s no point in trying to scratch an itch with a feather. I could think about going back only if I eat the French food.

walked by with my dog and saw the menu, the phở with the bison meat balls caught my eyes so 3 hours later i went back .
I only care about the food so this review is about the food only, the service and ambiance was great and there were only a few people inside.
if you like big dishes and salty food, its not your place.
this was the best phở I have ever eaten, its clean flavorful and you can tell that their broth is real and not some cheap soup powder .the meat balls were amazing.
its a french Vietnamese restaurant, in my opinion, they take the best of both and make a dish, the Vietnamese phở was made with french broth, they use good ingredients they don’t over use oil and salt .
I also got appetizers salmon gravlex, i forgot the name of the other appetizer, it was dough filled with duck meat .both were perfect but small
for desert, i got the profiterole which was ridiculously good .
french is my favorite i will definitely be back there !!!

We really liked this place! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food — an unusual mix of French, European, and Vietnamese — was presented with appeal and very good. We started with wine tasting plus appetizers. Today, 4 white wines were offered. You get some instruction and a kind of spreadsheet that you’re encouraged to use for rating your wines. Then we took Phở, the Vietnamese noodle soup with fresh veggies and chicken. And full we were, in a tasty, yet light and healthy way.
Looking forward to coming back!

What a find. Best phở I’ve had on the west side. True phở broth… fragrant and homey. My Vietnamese mother would approve. The open faced ravioli was delicious take on banh quon. Great wine and beer selection for both the Vietnsmese and French dishes. Baguette is excellent, and the owner has great suggestions. Lots of passion here, beautifully prepared food. So happy they opened here, I missed east side Vietnamese and now I have great phở AND boeuf bourguignon down the street!

Good food selection. I would go back, the best compliment. Phở and wine and spicy food! I am in.

This place is cool, but no one was in there! I am afraid it’s going to fail, but hopefully, it was just an off night, even though it was Thursday.
I like the spot, it’s got character, it’s elegant and modern and cool. The food was good, the servers were sweet. .. but there was nobody there. I want to try it out again to see if this just could’ve been an off night, because it deserves a real chance at success.
For the 3PS:
Place: cool, modern, and actually feels like it is a much more done up Vietnamese style restaurant straight from Indochina with the open doors right off the sidewalk. Kind of a like a mixture between an Asian old world restaurant and a hip New York place. But it’s very dark, need better ambient lighting. It’s got a cool bar though, that’s why I would love to see this place succeed. Needs some music.
Product: very good. I had the duck which was night and tender without the hints of gameyness that made it more like a good goose. However, it was just slathered with all this sauce, and that could probably be spared.
People: there really wasn’t anyone in there to provide a review of this aspect. It’s right on Washington so it should be drawing in more walking crowds. Maybe when the place next door opens.
Service: our Brazilian server was really sweet and friendly, but it was a little slow, especially when the place wasn’t busy.
Will try it again. Deserves another shot.

I really didn’t have the food, just the cheese plate and that was pretty good. The restaurant was pretty empty when I went on a Sunday noon.
Service was good but a little slow. Overall a nice place to go if you want to eat Viet/​Euro fusion food in a quiet clean little restaurant.

My wife and I went here based on positive Unilocal reviews and loved it! We sat at the bar and had an amazing wine-​flight experience and education, and loved the food. The «small bites» that came with the wine was spectacular, my wife loved her Phở, and the Beef Bourguignon was really good.
The vibe was airy and open — please go, it’s a great Vietnamese-​French combination.
Btw, the Unilocal «book a table» function said they were booked then they were not. Fix your app, Unilocal!Glad we popped in without a reservation.

Love, love their spring rolls! It was so fresh and perfectly sized.
I love soup so I decided to try the Touranne Seafood soup on a hot summer night. I don’t regret ordering it because it was so delicious. The broth was light and it had salmon, shrimp, mushroom, celery, lemongrass and other fresh ingredients in it!
The ambiance at night gets a little romantic. They dimmed the lights and brought out the candles for each table. It might have been a little too dim because it soon became hard to see my friend who was sitting across from me. Either it was the dimmed lights or it’s time for me to get my eyes checked.
Overall, the food is amazing and the service is great. I will be back!

The chef/​owner took time to sit at our table and sent us the most delicious tastings of her amazing food!
This place is so cool… so homey, so personal and totally unexpected!
They have it right, real good food and amazing costumer service!

Bernard is the best! Great, funny bartender. The customers are warm and welcoming and we had great conversation. Le Cellier is a nice date place, which is what brought us here. The phở was decent, but could have been hotter. The Open Faced Ravioli was an interesting twist and pretty tasty. They have a great collection of beers and wines. The Tangerine Wheat is just delicious, while the fact that they have all-​day Happy Hour is a gift! My girlfriend loved the wines that they had as well. We will be making this one of our local spots.

I live just a few blocks away and walk here on occasion for a mellow glass of wine. I was a fan of China Beach and this is the same owners so my boyfriend came in just for a drink to check it out. Then we ended up getting some appetizers and then an entrée. I like Bernard the owner and sommelier. He’s really helpful with wine selections. He was cool when I told him I was going to Paris and we discussed what to see, where to go, etc.
The Phở here is pretty good and affordable, everything else is on the pricier side but is tasty. We did dinner here another night and with an app, 2 alcoholic beverages and 2 entrees you’re well over $ 100 so this is definitely not a casual dinner but more of a date night spot. The ambiance is romantic/​casual; candles, music, wine, small bites. They also have a great beer selection, Chimay (yes!), so my boyfriend and I will probably be back again.

Having a phở-​for-​breakfast obsession living on the Westside without a car is a tough situation. That’s why I was so excited to find Le Cellier! Being just a 30min walk from my place, I vowed to ignore Unilocal reviews and make this my go-​to spot. And it worked… for a bit. Then I met Hiep.
Hiep, the female owner, is straight up crazy and should not be allowed around food… or customers. During my Hiep Experience, she took off her sneakers at our table and stood on one of the chairs in her sweaty socks; she insulted my boyfriend; and did not once ask us if we were thirsty (we were). But that’s not all… Hiep left us with the strangest gift of all: her hair in our soup. How do I know it’s Hiep’s Hair? Because when we showed it to her, she picked it out of the bowl, gazed at it in the light for a few seconds, and said ‘This must be my hair’ — without any sense of surprise, shock, embarrassment, etc… you know, those things that normal restaurant owners generally express when confronted with something gross and unsanitary.
Instead, it was like she knew it was there all along. To extend the insult further, she gave us the Hiep Hair Discount (see pic) and removed one bowl of phở from the bill. No apology. Completely insulting and inadequate response. But, that’s Hiep.
It’s really a shame to have to write this review. My non-​Hiep experiences here were awesome. The phở is good. The place is nice. And the other servers were really, really awesome. Especially the French dude/​owner — he rocks. Unfortunately, Hiep cancels all that out and we will never return to Le Cellier.

I knew I had been here before. I stopped by another time because it was a wine bar. but unfortunately, I only got wine and didn’t get a chance to enjoy any of the food.
So. I think the owner (I think it was him) is very nice. In fact. he stopped by the table twice. Very personable. he even seated me. What I didn’t like… service was okay but really not great. The waitress made me wait about 10 minutes when I first got there before I was even asked if I needed something to drink. Then service was sort of spotty all night. I had tea so sometimes she would bring me more hot water. sometimes she would forget and I’d have to ask a few times. She knew we needed a few more minutes with the menu and disappeared for a long time until we flagged her down, etc. I am not sure what is her story. she was sweet but it is a restaurant.
There also was some sort of dog barking a lot tied outside of the restaurant when we were there for the first 40 minutes. It would have been nice if they asked that patron to make their dog stop sounding like they were in pain.
Tried a lot of things here at this place:
1. Champagne — It was ladies night. it was decent.
2. Open faced ravioli — It was interesting. a tad fishy tasting and definitely more for the adventurous side. Also the waitress came to the table and told us that you put fish sauce on top of it and instead of letting us do it. she pretty much drenched them with it. would have liked to have experienced the original taste of the ravioli before covered in sauce.
3. We had this chicken pancake thing. I can’t remember the name. It is wrapped with lettuce and mint leaves — It was okay but the sauce was way too spicy. Just a little was a kick.
4. Beef Stroganoff — Who knew right? Ummmmm. big pieces of beef. It was good but I thought this is more of a Russian dish. It’s executed well as a pasta dish.
5. Beef Phở — So they bring out the beef raw on the side. it was insane to me! They also had the traditional sauces and I thought one of their spicy sauces in the jar was really spicy (I know. I keep talking about spicy but I can normally eat a lot of spice). The broth tasted about right but I think I prefer the quantity at a regular Vietnamese hole in the wall
6. Lemon Tart — It was okay. I am not a big fan of this.
Overall I thought it was a cute place by Venice. It was a little chilly since they have huge windows. it’s still winter. and they just don’t have heat lamps inside (well why would they right?).
