Thank you Neil for taking a great care of my car. It feels better since you cleaned out the throttle body on my Jetta. This was an honest auto shop and he had my best interest at hand. I really appreciated his customer service and his willingness to help. His fees are also reasonable they don’t try to over charge you for services. If your having car issues Neil is your guy

If i could give zero stars, I would! My experience with Niel was nothing short of awful customer service. I called ahead to let Niel know the issues I was having with my car and I called him based on his positive reviews for being honest and a hard working mechanic. He said to just come on over. This was around 9 AM. fairly early still.
I dropped off the car and he asked for and I gave him my phone number so he could call me with any updates on the car and if anything additional needed work outside of what we discussed. I walked down the street to a Corrigan’s Steak House to hang out and wait for the work to get done.
When he was filling out my original paperwork to get everything started he kept on doing other things like calling his internet service and phone provider inbetween helping me and making me feel like I was being treated on the back burner. The customer should be YOUR focus. He finally understood this after maybe he could tell I was getting upset and asked the person on the phone to please hold for a minute.
I waited at the restaurant for almost 2 hours. I only asked for him to do an oil change and an alignment on the tires and wheels. He told me it would be done in way less than 2 hours. Since I had not heard back from him I decided to walk back myself and just see what was going on.
I get there and my car is just sitting outside the front of his shop like it has been done and NO ONE BOTHERED TO CALL ME! Why even take my number in the first place. That frustrated me to no end. When I walked in to speak with Neil there were two sales representatives from Cintas uniforms speaking with Niel and instead of asking them to wait for a minute so he could help me he made me wait 30 – 40 minutes until they were done with their marketing campaign before he even bothered to assist me. I was very patient this entire time and was just listening to their conversation, but inside I wanted to scream and say something… this again is NOT how you treat your customer.
When Niel was made available for me he told me the only work they did on the car was the oil change and that I didn’t need an alighment but a bunch of other stuff needed work on it and the stuff he said that needed work I had just recently had done by another mechanic less than a month ago! So much for being honest! If the only work you did was an oil change and you just let my car sit there for hours without calling me?
I would suggest taking your business elsewhere there are a plethora of car mechanics in the area that would be better and I’ll be doing the same!

In addition of being skillful and honest, Niel follows up with his customers on personal level. I truly appreciate that level of attention. I highly recommend this place, your car will be in safe hands and you will appreciate his customer care.

Niel’s repaired my thermostat, changed the oil, and a few other things. They where friendly, informative, and very thorough. I will be back, and will refer my friends. Thanks for the great service.

SAVED ME OVER $ 800!!!
When I moved to the area with my 2008 Saturn VUE I didn’t know who to trust to get oil changes. I caught a place not changing the oil filter where I used to live, so I was skeptical. I figured the Chevy dealership knows my car because it is exactly same as the Chevy Captiva. I went to Silver Start Chevrolet for a couple of years and then started to get an oil leak. I checked my oil level 2 months after getting the oil changed and nothing even registered on the dipstick! It took 2 quarts of oil before it showed up on the stick. I could see oil puddles down on the engine block and underneath on the oil pan. I took it to Silver Star GMC and told them I thought the leak was coming from the filter cap. They changed the oil and told me it shouldn’t leak. I checked it a couple of days later and it was still leaking. So I brought it back to Silver Star GMC. They looked at it and told me that the rear main seal on the engine was leaking and it would be about $ 800-​$ 900 to fix. The car only had 75,000 miles so I told them their GM products are terrible if that’s really the truth. I almost believed them and decided to take it to yet another source. Niel’s Auto Service is awesome. He looked at it and in under 30 minutes found that the leak was, as I had said, coming from the oil filter cap above. Silver Star Chevrolet was too lazy to change the rubber gasket on the filter cap (which a new filter comes with and they just threw it away every time). The current gasket was no longer rubber, but had been flattened like a pancake and turned rock hard. Obviously Silver Star Chevrolet AND Silver Star GMC hadn’t changed the gasket EVER in the past 2+ years. And Silver Star GMC was going to charge me $ 800-​$ 900 to fix something that wasn’t broken. CROOKS! Niel’s Auto changed the oil filter cap gasket and it hasn’t leaked since! SHORT STORY: NIEL’S AUTO IS THE BEST, MOST ETHICAL AUTO REPAIR PLACE I’VE EVER HEARD OF! THEY ROCK! (and don’t EVER EVER EVER trust Silver Star GM auto service — Chevy, GMC, Cadillac, Buick; they are terrible)

Wow, this guy is good. Was a bit skeptical about everyone giving this place 5 stars but I see why. If you are in need of an oil change and tire rotation, it will cost you less then $ 35. (I had the synthetic blend motor oil) Also looked over the whole car to make sure everything was good.
I called the local dealership for the same service and they said $ 80. I’m new to the area so I had to look it up on Unilocal and Unilocal delivered. And Niel got a new customer.

Niel is a real find! Knowledgeable, thorough, reliable and above all totally honest. We recently moved back to CA after 20 years in WA State and needed our car serviced. After reading all the great Unilocal reviews, my wife made an appointment and took the car to Niel’s. He charged $ 34 and change which is better than Jiffy lube and includes far more comprehensive service (including tire rotation) by an expert. Niel told my wife he found a water leak but repair wouldn’t be necessary for at least a year or two. The same scenario occurred on the following service visit. If you want a mechanic who knows his stuff and is concerned with customer satisfaction rather than how much he can take you for today, Niel get’s my highest recommendation.

I was on my way to Tarzana from Santa Barbara, when the coolant pipe in my car blew up in the middle of the freeway. I was super fortunate that my tow truck driver suggested going to Niels, because had it not been for the amazing folks there, I would have had to get a hotel for the night, or I would’ve had to figure out how to bus my way back to Santa Barbara. I am soooooo incredibly thankful to everyone for their professionalism, and for caring enough to get my 2001 VW Jetta out in the same day so I could return home. You’ve got yourselves a faithful customer from now on, I will be driving out there to get my car services done from you. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Very professional and great service!!! He has saved us ALOT of money on both our Navigator and Benz. He never up charged us and was very honest in exactly what our car and truck needed. He does all our oil changes and has the best prices in town.

I’ve been taking in my 2004 Mercury Sable to Niel’s since I moved back to the area. I drive over 400 miles a work week and with almost 200,000 miles on my car I have a lot of issues that come up. Niel and his staff are great. Whenever I take my car in for repairs, they are always done on time and for a fair price. Niel always takes the time to go over what the actual issue is instead of just glossing over any problems. As someone who doesn’t know a ton about cars, I really appreciate that and the fact that he doesn’t try and up sell you on unnecessary service. Another big plus for me, is that the shop is open on Saturdays.
Recently, a motor mount that was replaced in my car malfunctioned under warranty. Niel not only replaced the part right away as expected, but also didn’t charge me for labor, which was a really nice surprise.
If you are in the area and need a reliable and reasonable mechanic, defiantly take your car over to Niel.

After calling every other mechanic in town on Christmas Eve morning and realizing that they were all closed for the holiday, I pulled into Neil’s Shop at 12:30pm and crossed my fingers that he could change my oil and replace my headlight. My car, Goldie Honda, is an old 1996 Honda and for the past year and a half I have been driving it around town and scaring the dickens out of people with the noise the locks make every time I turn my car on or off (It sounds sort of like a semi-​automatic weapon). When I pulled into the shop, my car’s response was no different from any other day, and I flinched a little as I shut it off and watched every head turned my way. I gave a hand wave as if to say, I know, I know, it’s just my car and Neil, noticing my embarrassment, did not mention it.
I was thrilled that Neil said he’d squeeze in my oil change, and was happy to wait the 40 minutes it would take for his mechanics to get it done. We passed the time talking about holiday plans, cars, and kids, and laughing together at my locks in his office, and through our conversations I was able to see what a genuine, kind, and hardworking individual Neil is. As the time for payment approached, Neil informed me that he took care of my little problem by pulling the fuse to my power locks, no charge. It was the best present I could have received, and I am no longer ashamed to drive my car. Neil’s prices are reasonable, his work is spectacular, and his personality type is rare.
In the six days since I first visited his shop I have mentioned his name to family, friends, and strangers, and I am thrilled that at the age of 27, I have finally met someone who can become my mechanic. If I could give him 6 stars, I would.

If I could give Niel’s shop more than 5 stars I definitely would! Unlike others, Niel is extremely honest and genuinely cares about his customers. He always spends the extra time to ensure things get done properly. Not only are you gonna get the best prices but you will be given extraordinary service. This shop is well worth the trip! Give it a try and I’m sure they will earn your business. They do it all!

Neil is the best. I have a 2002 Chevy Impala that he keeps in great condition. I have gone in before late in the morning and he’s had it out the door by the end of the day. They are honest and professional and he does the best he can to give you the best deal. I have referred people to him and would do so again. Thank you Neil’s auto service!!!

Neil is awesome!
I drive a 10 year old Toyota Corolla that has taken a straight beating since I’ve owned it. My little car has never let me down. I hope I can hang on to her for another year or two. I’m also a broke, brand new mother of a 4 month old infant. Neil was sensitive to all of these concerns.
My rear axle was basically disintegrating. He found me a great used axle for ¹⁄₃ the price of a new one. Even though his shop was swamped with work he dropped my baby and me back at our home. Seriously! What a nice dude!
My car runs purrs like a kitten now. It honestly sounds 400% better. I’m sure it’s a lot safer too. I’m grateful I found Neil’s Auto.

Came here for an oil change on my Hyundai all the way from Malibu and honestly, it was well worth it. $ 29.95+ tax! Other places charge $ 40+. I was afraid for how cheap it was but the people here are genuinely helpful. Niel is a really honest guy, not here to rip you off. Great service and will be coming back. Support local business and meet the man! Yes it isn’t some fancy store with marbled flooring but he will definitely take care of you for a fair price. I will be coming back for other services.

I think I found my local neighborhood mechanic. I felt comfortable with his recommendations. Niel never pushed me to do something. Finished my vehicle In a timely manner.

Went in for an oil change and they checked all my fluids plus rotated my tires for free. Great service + deal!

Best price in town and very good service! Would recommend coming here to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable job. Oil change for $ 29.99! Also told him my door open light would come on when I rested my leg against my door so he took a look at it and tightened up the hinges on all my car doors for free. Great work and no problems. Also got my struts replaced, best deal I could find in Thousand oaks and did it all in a very timely manner! Car runs extremely smooth now.
