Brake Masters Thousand Oaks

The people there are nice and polite, the waiting room is clean, chairs are comfortable and there’s a big tv for those same who wish to watch while they wait.
I called ahead and was told wait time for an oil change and tire rotation would be a little over an hour. Twenty minutes later, I arrived. Actual wait time was 1 hour 45 minutes. It’s one of the best deals in town, oil change and tire rotation 29.95 plus tax. Just be prepared to wait.

SUCKS! Only go here if you don’t care about your car they’re horrible & beat your car up while in process of trying to fix problems they make more!

I’ve had my car serviced in Thousand Oaks twice, and they have always been fast, economical (it’s hard to beat a $ 50 fully synthetic oil change with coupon) and courteous. I can only attest to their oil change service, but bear in mind that this is where most scams/​upsells begin. They’ve never tried a hard sell on me before.
I always try to point out exceptional service when I can. David, who works the front desk, is extremely efficient, honest and friendly. Also, the guys in the garage do not make a mess of your car. My biggest peeve with oil change places is when you get the car back and there are stains on the carpet and oil all over the steering wheel and dash. I should also mention that I had my oil changed at the Brake Masters in Simi Valley as well. I’ve never had an issue after having my car serviced with this company.
TIP: Call in advance to make sure there isn’t a big wait in front of you.

Great, honest service. Super helpful and very clear about the issues with my car. Did not feel pressured to have to take care of everything at the moment. They even showed me where the problems were on my car. I will definitely return here.

Warning! This place is known to deceive and scam you with there services and products. My father had brakes done with «premium», top brakes but found they forced wrong type of brakes and we went to both dealership and our mechanic who said the brakes we’re incorrectly installed and potentially dangerous since the pad wouldn’t align correctly and will cause brake failure.
Second my very own car I changed to the ceramic brake pads. Now a year later I noticed weird vibrations and long distance braking needed. With only 15k driver I was surprised. Found out they installed the cheapest pads and not ceramic pads as I paid for. And yes I went to 3 autoshops and showed me what ceramic pads look like and what cheaper pads look like. They were consistent with their proofs.
This is horrible and unethical while endangering the lives of their customers. I have filed a complaint to the BBB and I hope you all believe the bad reviews. The few and little good experiences are not worth the risks.

I would have been ripped off … If they have had the part. I went to get a second opinion and guess what no master cylinder needed … Never going back.

Previously had brake pads & rotors replaced a Topanga Cyn location (Mar 2013). Took the car to Thousand Oaks location today because brakes are squeaking & asked for a brake inspection. I had the receipt from the previous work but they refused to perform the inspection.

I’ve always used brake masters for my oil changes and tire rotations. Although I’ve never been to this particular location. When I searched to See if there was a location near my new home, I was surprised at the horrible reviews. I’ve never felt swindled or taken advantage of using brake masters, and as a female this is a concern when taking my car anywhere. I just have to say, I’m glad I ignored the reviews and tried it out for myself. I was greeted and helped immediately by Donald. He didn’t try to upsell me, gave me exactly what I came in for, he also helped me out by putting my plates on my car (just got a fix it ticket). Car completed before the estimated 30 minute quoted wait time. I am a very happy customer and I will be back again. I was not let down, my expectations have been exceeded!

Went in for oil change left without a air filter. Customer service was horrible. Took forever to get my car done. The guys in the shop were just standing around talking and there was only my car and another there. I will NEVER go back! Please stay away.

I have been going to Brake Masters for 8 times now and I will say they are the most honest and great service I have found I dont trust anyone else to change my oil or brakes only these guys. Thank you for the great service!

Avoid this place at all costs. As a believer & practicer of capitalism bad businesses should go out of business, or change, become good and stay in business. I had this place replace my breaks in late ’11. In the fall of ’13 the brakes were squeaking, and the braking distance seemed longer.
Cut to me going back to Brake Masters to take advantage of LIFETIME BRAKES! I figured this’d be sweet, I paid $ 200 or so initially, and now my investment would pay off.
No.
They checked my car, said I need new rotors & brakes and it’d be around $ 600. Rotors were shot and there was 0 MM on the brake pads. I didn’t have $ 600. So he said, «Ehhh… how about $ 300??» I didn’t even have that. I had calculated on paying less than $ 200 seeing as how I had lifetime brakes. He showed me some part of the car that had rust on it.
Cut to a few months later I went to Shaver Jeep. Some background; Shaver Jeep never misses an opportunity to charge you money if they can. Ever. So I go there for an oil change and I ask them please check the brakes. 1 hour later they have changed my oil and tell me «Your car’s all done!» I go, «Whoa, what about the brakes!?» The nice service lady says, «They’re fine.»
«Rotors??»
“Perfect.”
“Odd… how much of the brakes are left? And what about the squeaking?”
«Let’s see… you have 6 maybe 7 MM left, good shape and as for the squeaking, sometimes they just squeak because of the casing they’re in. Nothing to worry about, really.»

On or about Monday, August 13, 2012, my husband and I brought our 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 to BrakeMasters on Thousands Oaks Blvd for an oil change service. By the following Wednesday, August 15, 2012, we could see and smell burning oil and smoke rising up from under the hood of the car. The car had previously never had any problems with oil leaks and the entire engine was very clean and well maintained by our personal mechanic. Under examination we could see that the oil cap was never reattached to the engine after the oil change was performed by the mechanic at BrakeMasters. The Motor Oil had heated up and was released all over the entire engine which had caused the burning oil smell and visible smoke. We returned to BrakeMasters on Thursday, August 16, 2012, where we met with Donald who apologized for the mechanics failure to reattach the oil cap and tried in vain to search the shop for the missing oil cap. After his unsuccessful attempt to find the oil cap, Donald informed us that he would have to order a replacement part and asked us to leave the car with him for a few hours where he would add more oil and wait for the part to arrive, which we agreed to. About 6 months ago, the before mentioned 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 started operating poorly. It would have random and sudden surging in its acceleration and have moments where it would stall out completely which only became worse over time until the car became un operational due to safety concerns. It became so bad we returned the car to our personal mechanic for an inspection to determine the cause of the poor and dangerous performance on Monday, April 22, 2013. After 3 days of investigating potential sources to the problem including the Fuel Injection Filter and Fuel Injection System, our mechanic decided to check the Fuel Injection Relay. Under examination, the Fuel Injection Relay was found to be completely saturated in motor oil caused by the mechanic at BrakeMasters failure to reattach the oil cap. This Fuel Injection Relay component was dripping in Motor Oil and must be replaced. My husband and I returned to BrakeMasters and spoke to Jeremy, the Manager on Friday, April 26, 2013. We informed Jeremy of the situation and also told him that we could not find the receipt and asked him to look up the Record of Service in the computer. Jeremy informed us that he was able to find our information and the automobile in question in the computer system, however he was unable to locate the record of service on the day the BrakeMasters mechanic damaged our car. Our personal mechanic informed us that this is a common practice at some automotive repair shops to delete the invoice of repair after performed if the invoice is paid in cash, and we did pay in cash. I then asked Jeremy if they had the hard copy of the receipt we were given and he informed us that once we could give him the date of service, he could track down the hard copy of the receipt. We do however have the «Sticker» Proof of Service on the window of the 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 which shows the Suggested Mileage and/​or Date BrakeMasters recommended for us to bring the car back for its next oil change. The date on this Proof of Service Sticker is listed as 11/​17/​2012. The Owner/​Operator has REFUSED to pay for the repairs to our car. Quote, «If you dont have your receipt, I dont have a receipt, so what, SUE ME!‘

I took my car to the Thousand Oaks location for an estimate. They told me that I needed front brakes and that it would cost $ 520. The next day I went to the Simi Valley location and had the work done for $ 318. Do not go to the T.O. location, they rip off customers and are just plain sleazy.

My husband called the Brake Masters in T.O. to find out how much an oil change was — quoted 18.95 on the phone. They asked the model and year of my car. When I took it in a day later without my husband they tried selling me a synthetic oil change for 49.95, when I told him no, he said, oh I have to check something under your hood. He went out and came back and said for MY car — the oil change is 29.95 — because I HAVE to have 5W20 oil… so I told him forget it. I looked in my owner manual and it says you can use 5W20, 5W30 or 10W30 oil. I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra and I am really mad they are not honoring the price we were originally quoted and they are trying to take advantage of me because I’m a woman. I will never trust them now, because they lied to me. Great job Brake Masters!!! I also had a 5.00 off coupon, not that that makes a difference because 5.00 off a rip off price does me no good!!!
