The Gondola at Heavenly

A great way to spend the day! The first stop is our favorite-​breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding areas. The staff was very friendly and made the experience that much more enjoyable. Nothing like spending the afternoon up here with a picnic lunch. It was also awesome that they have water both before boarding the gondola and at the first stop. The café at the first stop is closed on the weekdays but they do have a gift shop that’s open. The restaurant at the 2^nd stop is said to stop serving hot food at 3pm right now. The gondola itself is enclosed and can get a little warm, so on hot days that’s something to keep in mind. A wonderful experience and highly recommended.

Worth doing at least once, even if you’re not heading up to Heavenly for any activities. At $ 44 per person for the round trip, sure it might seem a bit steep but a ride up the Gondola boasts some of the best high up views of Tahoe that I can imagine.
You buy your tickets and board at the Shops at Heavenly Village. During Memorial Day weekend, we went right at 10 on Sunday and the lines were already long. The staff did a great job of moving passengers along and overall it moved quickly.
The gondola stops at an observation deck halfway up and you’d be remiss not to get off and take in the views from this vantage point. Spectacular vistas of the lake and surrounding mountains await you. There are rangers on the platform to answer questions, plaques containing info on what peaks and areas of Tahoe you’re looking down on and a small gift shop & coffee bar.
Hop back on the Gondola to go all the way up to the ski lodge but be aware it doesn’t stop at the observatory on the way down. Allow for at least 2 hours for the round trip and photo ops at the observatory deck. Pretty cool way to spend the morning and then be ready to embark on more Tahoe adventures afterwards.

Make sure you call before you make the drive here. Nothing was notated on the website that the gondolas were closed today but when we got here they said it was closed for maintenance.

Better view from Emerald Bay and its free. $ 50 per person for WHAT?! Crazy… that would have been $ 100 for me and my newly wed wife to ride to the top. This does NOT include a lift ticket. You must buy that separately at the top for a nominal fee. Lame…

Great view from the Gondola to view Lake Tahoe. It could be faster but hey it’s a good view until you get to the top. I would take it in the summer or winter.

I loved the Gondola ride and it has definitely lovely and breathtaking views. While going up make sure to stop at the observation deck (you won’t be able to do that while going down). I am giving a 4 star because it is kind of pricey just for the ride. I would say it is worth the price if you are taking the lifts for going up the mountain to ski. I am still tore between Gondola ride view and the Emerald Bay View. Anyways, Tahoe is beautiful and taking the ride up the mountains was an experience in itself. Would love to visit again and go ski

A beautiful ride in a beautiful place — summer or winter — totally worth paying the money for! The gondola at Heavenly is a great way to take in the scenery of Lake Tahoe from the Southside. It’s a must do if you’re here!
Tips: try to get your tickets early because especially in the winter, tickets will sell out. Also, try to get in on a day with calmer winds so that you aren’t stuck out there if the winds pick up. They give you a warning when you go up about this.
Service is amazing; tickets are kinda pricey, but I think it’s totally worth doing it once in each season. I’ll have to come back for my winter one soon!

This part of my Heavenly experience was great.
I think it is pretty cool that they have this wonderful «ride» to the top of the resort. There is even a place one can exit to simply take pics of beautiful Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area. Then, you can get back on the next car and ride to the top.
The guys and girls working there are really helpful when you are getting on with your skis and poles or your board. They have little compartments on the outside of each car that houses the skis and boards and you can enter with poles if you have them or just your self and friends if you do not.
The cars on the gondola are pretty roomy. We fit like 7 or 8 people in ours. And we could all see the view, take pics and be comfy enough.
When you reach the top there is another worker there to help you out and to grab your skis or board and lead you in the right direction to the slopes.
The view is absolutely breathtaking.

My favorite ski resort in Tahoe!
The gondola itself is a fun ride and offers amazing views of the lake. Stop at the observation deck for some photos, or head up to the mountain for some skiing or snowboarding.
The service is excellent as well. They help you with loading your ski gear and make sure you get in and stay comfortable.

Once in a lifetime experience.
My husband and I went snowboarding here, so we waited until 12:15, and paid the half day price for the lift tickets and gondola ride. It was $ 75 per adult for both. A full day pass is $ 94 per adult.
The gondola by itself without a lift ticket would’ve been $ 48. So I thought it was actually a deal to do both for $ 75.
After we snowboarded, we went on the gondola ride again with our 2 year old (who is free) and stopped at the observation deck. The scenery was breath taking.

We were extremely disappointed to find out that the Gondola closes for about 1.5 months between the last Sunday of September and doesn’t reopen till about mid-​November for the ski season which is their biggest season. Although it’s no ones fault, it’s hard to not be disappointed since it was our first time in Tahoe and we were looking forward to this!
However, maybe we should also be thankful as it seems prices per person ranged about 40 – 50 $ to ride up the mountain in an enclosed tube! Also another negative note, every shop located in the heavenly plaza is unable to validate for the parking lot since it belongs to the city (once again, not anyone’s fault) but still, more $$, unless apparently, you go to the movies!
Of course, I will make the appropriate updates on Unilocal when I am able to actually ride the Gondola but for now, 2.5 stars for the disappointment!

The best activity in Tahoe in the summer! It’s a bit pricy but everyone should do this at least once. They’ve made some major improvements and extended it over the past few years.
Nothing beats the view! Our son still talks about it every time we visit!

If you have children, this really a must go. Sure, it’s a little pricey, but you will get some pretty amazing photos from your gondola ride. The Village area is quite congested and parking can be a bit difficult, worth the hassle. We bought our tickets ($ 42 per adult, discounted for our five year and our 2.5 year old was free) and jumped on the gondola (no wait). We briefly debated not getting off the gondola at the midway point, but decided to go ahead. If we hadn’t have, we would have regretted it. The views from the viewing deck are breath taking. There was a staff there who took a couple of excellent pictures of our family together. We got back on the gondola (no wait) and rode the rest of the way up the mountain.
We enjoyed our time doing a variety of activities. Our five year old loved the mountain tubing and riding the ski lift (free). There were a number of different activities to appeal to the entire family. Admittedly, it was expensive (and I’m honestly not sure how much we spent while we there), but it was worth it. We bough some snacks at the restaurant (think Disneyland dining quality and price) and enjoyed our ride back down to the base. Overall, it was a fun way to spend the afternoon and we will certainly return on a subsequent visit to the area.

FINALLY my son’s wish came true and we got to ride the gondola. He’s been asking to go ever since he first saw it over a year ago. We picked a relatively nice day and rode on up. The ride was really cool. Amazing views. And the little stop partway up was way neat. What a place to enjoy a coffee! Of course… it was a $ 6 coffee so it had better have some sort of perk. But. Anyway.
So we get up the mountain and start to do some fun stuff, we are all paid up for the ropes course and harnessed in and on the way onto the course… and they make an announcement that there is lightning in the area. BOO. I know that’s not their fault and I am glad they care for our safety. And they did refund the cost of the ropes course so that was cool. However, I wish they’d at least give a discount voucher for the gondola in that event! It was roughly eighty billion dollars for the four of us to ride up, and we were there under an hour before we had to turn around and go right back down. We’d have loved to play around up there for a while, do the ropes course, have some lunch, maybe zip line. We were ready to thrust our money at them but had to ride back down and now we know going up to even TRY to play is an expensive gamble.
Oh well. One of the days when it’s like a zillion degrees and there isn’t a cloud anywhere over the entire US, and we’ve sold a kidney or two to make some money… maybe we will try again.

It’s a bit pricey to go up there. It’s $ 42 for adults, $ 35 for teens and seniors, and $ 20 for kids. Probably more expensive when we went because it was Fourth of July weekend.
One downside was that it was hot in the gondola. I wish they had more holes in the window because it was over 90 degrees inside and it was uncomfortable.
It takes about 15 minutes to go to the observatory deck. They have a gift shop and a café there if you want some coffee. The views here are incredible!
You take another 10 minute gondola ride to the furthest point of the ride and they have zip-​lining, rock climbing, and more! The views here are great as well and you could cross the California /​Nevada state line.
Would I come back here? Definitely, especially to bring someone new in the area. Would I recommend going here? YAAAS!

40 $ a person to ride Plus other pricing to ride anything else that is on the mountain. Sort of pricey in my book however… THE VIEWS! So gorgeous and peaceful. Lovely fresh air once you get to the first stop.
FYI sometimes on the way down or up it may stop, don’t worry they are cleaning or letting someone w a wheelchair on. Had to ask cause I was FREAKED OUT!

This excursion is pricey ($ 40 a person), but the views are worth every penny! If you feel like experiencing a relaxed outdoor excursion with break taking sights of all of Tahoe than this is definitely a recommended activity.
Warning: if you are afraid of heights you may want to rethink this. The gondola goes incredibly high and can be a bit intimidating. I would suggest sitting so that your view is the lake and not the high ropes lifting you up.
Half way through the ride you stop at a looking point. This is another awesome opportunity to take in the sights. After you travel to the top you reach this awesome area where you can partake in various different outdoor activities like zip lining and a ropes course. There is also a full service restaurant, but another warning: the drinks are expensive!
All-​in-​all it was a great experience! I’m very happy we chose to try it out and I highly recommend you do the same!

For $ 40/​person, you get a 20 minute ride up to the first stop (observatory deck), and another 20 minute ride up to the very top of the mountain. You get a fantastic view of Lake Tahoe from the ride up. At the first stop, the observatory deck is an awesome place to snap some photos of the scenic view. Take as many as you can because you won’t get the same view when you’re all the way up at the top of the mountain. We had a selfie stick so we were able to capture the lake as our background in our photos. There was also a little café for hot drinks and snacks near the bathroom as well.
At the very top of the mountain, we were able to see some snow on the ground. The ground was super wet with puddles from the melted snow. I believe there is also a restaurant at the very top in case people get hungry.
During the ride down, there is no stops at all.
I’d say it’s definitely worth the price; especially if you’re visiting from out of town. Lake Tahoe is the bluest lake I have ever seen; so breathtaking.
My only warning is that if the weather is bad, they’ll stop the rides without notice and without refund… so plan to go on a clear day!

Yes, it’s pricey — tickets are $ 52 for the gondola only. However, the views are unparalleled and it was absolutely worth it! I could not help but snap pictures non-​stop on the trip up and was in awe at the amazing landscape. I came during a weekend in April and there was not much snow (most of the resort was closed), so there were not many people, and SO and I got a gondola to ourselves. As others have said, make sure you get off at the observation deck, as you won’t be able to do so on the way down!
It was about 60 degrees at the base of the mountain with no snow in sight. At the observation deck, however, there was still a good amount, which made for a nice change of scenery and some picturesque photos. At the top of the mountain, there was not much to do, as most of the runs were closed, and the restaurant has pretty poor quality and expensive food. I put that side and give this 5 stars because of the spectacular views.

This is a pricey trip to get up the mountain from the Heavenly Village to the Heavenly Mountain Resort. It costs about $ 48 per person, but the gondola is included in the price of lift tickets.
While it seems pricey, you quickly forget the cost when you see the views from the gondola or the observation deck! The views are magnificent and truly offer the best views of Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay, South Lake Tahoe and the mountains!
Tips:
1.) Lift tickets can be found on certain websites (e.g., Craigslist) at a great discount! We found them for as low as $ 35 per ticket — which includes both the gondola and all day ski lifts at the top — on the «for sale» section of the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist!
2.) The earlier the better! The gondola can be crowded after 11 AM. If you go early, you’ll enjoy a quick 2.5 mile trip up the mountain — and have time to hang out on the observation deck.
3.) Make sure that you stop at the Observation Deck ON THE WAY UP. There is no stop on the way down.
4.) The observation deck in a platform with warm, clean restrooms. If offers a circular walkway that gives great views of the lake, surrounding mountains and, of course, the gondola and Heavenly Mountain.
5.) The weather is unpredictable at South Lake Tahoe. When you stop at the observation deck, make sure that you stick around for the snow or clouds to clear and then take in the views of the snow-​capped mountains that surround the lake and area!
6.) Remember: Ticket prices are for ONE trip up and ONE trip down. This is not an all-​day up and down ticket (unless you have lift vouchers that include unlimited trips up and down the mountain). The regular gondola ticket is just one trip up and one trip down.
7.) You cannot bring your own tubes or sleds. However, you can bring your ski equipment.
8.) Food and drink is expensive at the top. However, there are no restrictions about what food and drink that you can bring to the top! If the day is warm, you might want to have a picnic at the observation deck!
9.) Call before making assumptions. The tubing hill was open — but the toddler tubing hill closed two days before we arrived.
10.) There are some non-​tubing, non-​skiing options at the top. In addition to great views of the mountains and a nice lodge, there are some trails and jungle gyms at the top for the kids.
