Nice little lodge, rooms are kind of small but not bad. Small kitchenette area included. Bathroom is probably the nicest and most spacious area of the room. Staff is friendly enough and even lent us an ironing board and iron to use. I have to say though they are NOT pet friendly as the website claims. We researched with trip advisor and booked online with Expedia which also said they are pet friendly but did not ask about any pets upon booking and did not disclose any fees. We arrived with our cat as we decided to bring him rather than boarding during the holidays due to cost. We were later informed they only accept dogs and there is a $ 20 per dog per night fee. Disputing this we were allowed to stay for our remaining night. The people that work here were very nice about the issue despite there being an inconsistency in the information provided by the lodge and by Expedia. Next time we will make other arrangements. Pet friendly should mean just that. If they only accept dogs, they should state dogs only and charge the fee upon booking with the websites they use, Expedia and others, not a surprise when you arrive after advertising that they accept pets. After closer review to make sure I didn’t miss anything and searching the very fine print of the pet friendly lodge website which never says dogs only I find a clause that says you can not leave your pet unattended in your room. I don’t know about you, but I don’t plan to bring my pet, dog or otherwise, to the ski lift, dinner, casino, or shopping. A little unreasonable in my opinion. Won’t stay again and I recommend other lodges as there are many in the surrounding area for the same or lesser price that are probably nicer.

Excellent little motel. Room appears to be newly remodeled, clean, comfortable bed, fire place to warm the room, a/c if it gets too warm, kitchenette, and a nice hot shower. Close for walking to the lake, Heavenly plaza, or the Casinos. I will definitely be back!

WOW!(and not in a good way) Where should I begin… So my buddy wanted to have his bachelor party in South Lake Tahoe for the weekend and so I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel room that would accommodate all of us(7 People) for the night. I found the Mark Twain Lodge and from what the description stated it sleeps 9(2 King Beds and a pull out couch) also had a small kitchen area with large Fridge and stove I think the price came out to around $ 300 after everything for a 1 night stay sounded great so we booked the room using Expedia and we didn’t have to pay till we arrived. On the day of check in(08÷15÷15) I got a call from my Buddies Fiancé asking to stall on checking in because they were going to decorate the room with«Bachelor Party Stuff» so I called the front desk and asked them what time check in was so that I could tell my buddy that check in wasn’t until later in the day just to stall him so the girls could add some fun decorations to the place… Now here’s were it gets bad… when I called in a lady answer and I asked her what time check in was and she asked for the name it was booked under and immediately after I gave her the name she becomes VERYRUDE. She starts out the conversation with, «before we go any further I heard that this was a bachelor party staying here and if I would have known that it was a bachelor party staying here then I wouldn’t have allowed you to book a room here»… she proceeded to tell me «that some girl called in and asked if she could decorate the room before hand and that’s not going to happen either”(which if my buddy would have called instead of me it would have ruined the whole surprise) she then said she has other families with children staying below us and that she doesn’t want any«Beer Ponging» going on. Then threatens us stating that she lives on the property and that if we stay there and she hears one sound from us or gets one complaint from anyone that we are being loud that she will kick us out and we will not get a refund. Then she states that she suggests that we stay somewhere else(This was on a Saturday and South Lake Tahoe was SUPERBUSY). The whole time that I’m on the phone with the lady I was not able to get in one single word… Finally after she closed her mouth for a second and I was able to speak I proceeded to tell her that she is super rude and asked if she talks to all of her customers this way… then I asked if she tells parents with babies that if there child is loud and crying that she would kick them out too(Sarcasm). I told her that we are all responsible adults(we are all in our Late 20’s to mid 30’s with families of our own) and we are aware of rules and policies but that is NOT they that you speak so customers EVER especially when we have not even done anything wrong. I told the lady on the phone that the girls that are coming up are not stapling or taping anything into the walls there just dropping off cupcakes and some fun gifts for the Groom. She said that would be fine but still advised us that we should go find somewhere else to stay… After I got off the phone with her I immediately got on the phone to other hotels trying to find anywhere else to stay after a few hours of trying we were able to find 2 Smoking rooms(none of us smoke) at the montbleu but it cost us a lot more. After I was able to confirm our new rooms were booked I headed over to the Mark Twain Lodge to gather up all the things that the Girls set up. There was not one single car in there parking lot when I showed us and I thought that was odd because usually with that busy of a weekend you would think that it would be busy there but it wasn’t. I told the lady that she was Very Rude and that we will not be staying there anymore and want to gather our things… she let us into the room and kept a close eye on us the whole time. While I was in the room gathering our thing’s I was able to check out the place and it looked like a really good place to stay and was unfortunate that the lady was so rude to us that we chose not to stay there. As nice as the place looked on the inside and outside I will never try and stay there again even if I brought by family up to Tahoe with me.

stayed with a buddy for a weekend of snowboarding. i was surprised at how nice the place was. basically across the street from heavenly and casinos, walking distance to shops and restaurants. 30 min drive to sierra and 45 min drive to kirkwood. 2 double beds. could easily accommodate 4. if you are not too picky about personal space, you could fit 6. renovated, quiet, clean, newer fridge, newer gas fireplace, tv, kitchenette. some of the most comfortable beds ive ever experienced in any hotel. no wifi, but so what. this is not a fancy 5-star place. im giving it 5 stars because i cant think of a single thing wrong with it, especially considering its price and location.

I did not have a good experience with the Mark Twain Lodge. Last week, while planning a trip to Tahoe, I looked them up on-line and saw their daily mid-week rate was $ 60, per their website. However, when I called and tried to book a room I was quoted a price of $ 69. When I pointed out that they were advertising a rate of $ 60 the clerk responded«Oh, we don’t go by that.» Amazing! When I asked why they do not honor their advertised price and if she was aware there are laws against this stuff I was told«You have to talk to the owner, he’s not here.» Now here’s the kicker. Wife and I ended up staying at another motel, literally right across the street from the Mark Twain. during the two days we were at Tahoe we did not see one car parked at the Mark Twain. I guess I wasn’t the only customer turned off by their false advertising! Can’t say how the quality is beyond the problems at the reservation desk.

We stayed here during the celeb golf tournament. They were one of the cheapest places around and some of our friends were also there. The outside looks average at best. And the office smells like an ash tray. That being said, the rooms are cute, clean, and remodeled. Super close to everything. This place is worth staying in. Simple. Does the job. We will be back.

I’ve stayed here three time & find it to be one of the best deals on hotels in the South shore area of Lake Tahoe. Walking distance to the casino’s, buffets etc. A nicely remodled hotel, normally quite, pool, clean, mircowave ½ mile or so walk to the Lake. All good…

Parking: Ample Service: Short, but does the job Price: Great compared to other summer rates We stayed here one night in July for a concert at the Harvey’s Outdoor arena. There’s a reason why they are so highly rated on TripAdvisor: good rates for the quality(not only décor and cleaniness, but proximity to activity). The hotel was remodeled a few years back and looks fantastic. I believe all the rooms have kitchen-nettes(at the minimum, a microwave and refrigerator). Very comfortable and clean, with cabin-like décor. Walking distance to the casinos, stores and shopping. Great location. The motel, I believe, is now renamed«Mark Twain Lodge». I deducted one star because the beds were a little too soft for my liking. I personally need back support! Tip: This motel is not available for booking online(and I hope it stays that way). I believe it is able to retain its great rates because it stays away from Expedia or Orbitz. Booking must be done by calling.
