Photographer Dawn Heumann has been establishing her photography business in her home town of Sebastopol for the last few years.

As a young graduate, with a Masters degree in fine art photography from the Academy of Art University, Dawn has been trained in documentary and fine art portrait photography.

Hello,

My name is Dawn Heumann, I will be taking your photo. I hold a master’s degree in fine art Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

There are so many things I enjoy about portrait photography. I find a tremendous amount of satisfaction working with other people to create a photograph that is strikingly beautiful and incredibly meaningful.

As a fine art and documentary wedding photographer I work to capture the beauty in every moment of your special day. My style is natural and relaxed. My goal as your photographer is not just to capture how your wedding day looked, but also to capture how it felt. I work with the client to capture the moments they feel are most important. It is my job to observe and document the day that you have created in a creative and unique light that captures each detail and emotion.

If I could give Dawn 10 stars, I would! I am a wedding planner and I can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes when you work with an artist who not only has the eye to catch those amazing details but also fun, on top of it and wants to be involved! Her positive energy shines and really makes the couple feel at ease when trying to navigate a tight timeline while getting all of those important shots! I did not use Dawn as a wedding photographer (although I wished she photographed mine years ago) but she beautifully photographed my family for our holiday photos for 2015. At the time my son was 5 months old and my daughter was 2 years old. My daughter was a little challenging to get to smile in front of a camera but Dawn was so patient and was able to capture many heartwarming moments and smiles! Dawn was friendly, professional and gave us direction so we can look our best yet still feel comfortable. She always listened to our ideas, was very flexible with date changes due to weather, and was a great communicator. She was a joy to work with and was very timely in her delivery of the final product. She captured my family’s personality beautifully. I look forward to having her photograph my family for years to come.

Dawn did Senior portraits for both of my children during their final year of high school. I have two very different children and we had two very different photo shoots. I cannot recommend her highly enough for several reasons! First, she was very responsive to phone and also e-​mail communications and her follow through was 100% — she did what she said she would do. She had the best attitude at every step of the way, we could tell she loved what she was doing. One thing I really appreciated was how she was never hurried, like our photo shoot was THE most important thing! She had excellent ideas when we were confused about what we wanted. I would say she is very good at drawing out the creative. After a fun photo shoot our photos were ready when she said they would be. And perhaps most importantly, our portraits were beautiful! We have some very memorable shots and we could not be happier! Dawn comes highly recommended from this family!

Dawn is just amazing to work with! She did a photoshoot of our wedding last month on Mt. Tam and they came out incredible. I felt very comfortable working with her and I consider myself camera shy person. She gives a lot of helpful instructions in a diplomatic manner, so we felt very relaxed and comfortable and that’s what I wanted from pictures. She is creative, professional, and just easy to be around. Dawn offers different variations of your pictures with several editing options from vintage, black and white, to regular. Highly recommend her!

I got married in September and the best decision I made was to hire dawn as our photographer. Our photos came out so incredible, EVERYBODY asks about them. She made us feel comfortable, she got exactly the photos we wanted, and she made us look beautiful. She was incredibly professional and nice, and went above and beyond to get the best photos. We got married in the forest and she literally was rolling around in the dirt to get the best shots. After the wedding we got the photos promptly and they were packaged up so nicely. Dawn is seriously the greatest photographer I have ever seen, her photos are a work of art!

We hired Dawn as our wedding day photographer even before seeing any of her wedding-​specific photography. Having known Dawn’s photography work in natural landscapes and travel, I knew she had the eye that I was looking for to capture my wedding– and she did. Dawn was easy to work with and very professional leading up to the wedding, on the wedding day, and in the weeks that followed. This was impressive because at the time she was still in graduate school full-​time completing her Masters degree.
On the day of our wedding, Dawn had a wonderful way of letting me know she was there without being intrusive or bossy. I knew I could trust her to follow her own creative eye, while also being able to tell her when I had specific ideas or shots that I wanted included. The quality of the photos were outstanding, and I receive constant compliments on their artistic and unique quality — some are absolutely timeless. My husband and I chose to have a no fuss city hall ceremony with immediate family. My sister in law insisted on having Dawn Heumann photography document the occasion as a wedding gift to us. I honestly, did not care. I just wanted a no muss no fuss ordeal, but two weeks later when I got my photos from Dawn I was elated. All the good parts that got clouded by the day came back to me. The giggles, the jitters, our families coming together. It was one of the best presents I have ever been given. I highly recommend. She has a knack for catching those special in between moments and they have a real intimacy to them.

We chose Dawn Heumann to document our wedding, and she went above and beyond to deliver more than we’d hoped for. It’s difficult to take in all of the details of your wedding day when you’re so ecstatically happy, exhilerated and emotional, but Dawn caught every single moment for us and somehow made them even more beautiful. From the tears of joy in our eyes the first time we saw one another to the last moonlit dance, the best day of our lives still comes alive in Dawn’s work. She even captured all of the precious moments we missed — the looks on our parents’ faces as we said our vows; fairy lights glowing in the trees as friends talked and danced late into the night; handmade lace decorations fluttering in the empty garden before the first guest arrived. Having had a few bad experiences as a bridesmaid, I was initially a bit worried that all professional wedding pictures somehow end up feeling forced or staged. Dawn put my fears to rest and captured the essence of the day with a warm, effortless grace. She is professional, calm, dependable, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I cannot recommend her more highly.
