In November 2011, Heather and Penny’s dreams came true with the purchase of Seattle By Foot. «We have spent countless hours plotting tours we would like to someday start. Our day has arrived! Watch out Seattle!» Both have lead tours under sidewalks, on a bus and in the Pike Place Market. They are joined by a dynamic team of tour guides to help them realize their dream. «We are so honored an lucky to know these guides. We will create an amazing experience for our guests but it really is the tour guide that needs to deliver.» Heather comes from a family of entrepreneurs while Penny attended Cornish College of the Arts and has a theater background.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed Seattle By Foot’s Original Coffee Crawl today. Our guide, Penny, was energetic and knowledgeable. We visited several establishments, including Biscuit Bitch, Caffe D’arte, Caffe Ladro, Caffe Umbria, Ghost Alley Espresso, and Intrigue Chocolate Co. We sampled everything from Costa Rican light roast prepared in a Chemex Coffeemaker to cold brew coffee paired with an interesting array of chocolate truffles. Penny has been leading tours since 1995 and her relationships with the owners and employees of these establishments made this tour really special. We highly recommend Seattle By Foot!

The Seattle by Foot Coffee Crawl was one of the really fun things I did on my short stay in Seattle. Having never been there before I was looking for interesting ways to familiarize myself with the city.
This tour was incredible. Having been on a coffee tour in Columbia, I already knew something’s about coffee.
On this tour Heather introduced us to the many ways coffee is prepared with stops at 6 local, no chain coffee spots where we tasted and discussed how each was made. This tour which lasted about 2 hours should not be missed. That is if you enjoy a truly good cup of coffee.

Loved this tour! While we were staying in Seattle for a few days we thought it would be appropriate to learn more about Seattle’s infamous coffee culture by signing up for the Coffee Crawl and I am so glad we did — this tour delivers! Heather is very knowledgable, super friendly and took us to a great variety of cafes, coffee shops, and hotspots in the Seattle downtown area. Plenty of time was given to enjoy the coffee at each location as well as to ask questions about the different drinks. It was a blast!
I’m not very experienced in my coffee drinking (usually more of a tea gal); however my boyfriend is and even so, we both really enjoyed all the destinations Heather showed us.
We think this tour is a definite must-do for anyone visiting Seattle!

Truly one of the best tours I’ve ever had. Penny and her daughter were fun and so knowledgeable about the city and all things coffee. You did not feel like you were on a tour, rather just hopping from coffee shop to coffee shop with a local. The group was great and the coffee was fantastic!

The coffee crawl — what an awesome tour. We wanted to do something a little different to get to know Seattle. I was already a pretty big coffee nerd. Hubby is a tea drinker, but came along for the ride. The coffee stops were all awesome, the food stops delicious, I still learned a lot about brewing techniques, Seattle history and a lot more… AND hubby is now addicted to Chemex. All of the baristas we met on the tour were delightful, and spending the morning with Heather was like hanging out with our long lost Seattle BFF.

My wife and I (locals) did the coffee crawl 4 years ago when we were brand new to Seattle; we thought it would be fun to re-live one of our first dates. It did not disappoint! Heather was awesome and had switched the tour up a little bit since the last time. If anything, the tour is even better now, not that it didn’t deserve 5 stars before. She has some awesome fun facts and really exposes you to some of Seattle’s greatest coffee. Local or visitor, it’s a great tour.

Heather, our tour guide, made me a better coffee drinker by the time we were done. I now know that I dont like Americano because it just means more water has been added. Im excited to go out and try «single origin» coffees so I can experience all the different notes of flavor. Plus you learn really insighful and nifty things about about Seattle. You get to see Pikes Place, the gum wall and mind blowing coffee and so much more. She was genuine, engaging and thoughtful. This tour exceeded my expectations ten fold. Take this tour!!!

Heather was an amazing, entertaining guide. She was engaging and funny, and introduced us to special spots in Seattle. I appreciate the ‘inside scoop’ and loved accessing hidden gems, and small business owners.
I also liked that the tour included other options aside from coffee– we tasted chocolates and biscuits that were boooomb.

Seattle was on my bucket list so I came for my birthday. I was only person on the tour and instead of canceling Penny gave me a 1 on 1 tour. She has so much knowledge not only on Seattle’s coffee scene but also on the history of Seattle. I had my 1^st latte, so good! All future cups will be judged by this cup. This is a must do!

We were in Seattle during the holidays, so of course it makes sense to sign up for the Holiday Walking Tour (it didn’t hurt that there was a Groupon deal going on).
And…well…it was an experience. I feel like the whole crux of this review hangs on the word «expectations». Look, we had a very nice tour guide who was knowledgable on a lot of the buildings in the area and their history. Our tour group was only 4 people, so it kept the communication more personal and intimate, which I enjoyed.
The problem lies more with the dissonance between what we felt like we would get and what we actually got. Simply put, Seattle does not go all out for the holidays. Not by a long shot. And Seattle by Foot, while it sounds like they have some great tours, is not fully equipped to deal with this. It’s not the fault of the city or the company that there isn’t a ton of cool holiday stuff to see… but on the other hand it was advertised as a Holiday Walking Tour. It honestly felt more like a tour of downtown Seattle architecture and art installations, with only a few major holiday portions towards the end at Westlake Center.
A decent tour, just not what we were expecting and it left us a bit wanting.

I was in Seattle to take a cruise but had the whole day Saturday to «see» Seattle. I read about some of the interesting things to see/do and stumbled upon Seattle by Foot coffee tour and pub tour. First up was the coffee tour, with Ed as our guide.
Wow! We went to six different stops and even got a taste of biscuits from the Biscuit Bitch. Amazing coffee and Ed was the perfect guide. He pointed out highlights of the areas we were walking through and suggested areas for lunch/dinner. I did end up going back to two of the coffee shops we tasted at and bought coffee to take home!
After the coffee tour we walked around and had some lunch, then we met Penny for our Pub Tour. There were only two of us on the tour and we both enjoy beer. We got to taste beer at locations we would probably have ignored because they were either too commercialized looking or seedy looking. Boy did we taste some amazing beer. Penny was great… she was funny and recommended other areas to visit for the next time.
I only have one suggestion to Seattle by Foot regarding your pricing. I reviewed what I read and no where did it indicate I would need to purchase anything else while on either of the tours — the tastings I mean. However, on the Pub Tour you are required to purchase your beer at two locations. And it was outrageous price wise for the two locations, but I wasn’t expecting it. I’d suggest that the locations where we had beer serve it in smaller glasses that are paid with the purchase price and that would also allow us to taste more… because by the fourth location, well, I was feeling pretty toasty!
I’d suggest either of these tours as a way to see parts of Seattle you might otherwise never find. Just be prepared to walk… a lot!

As part of our Seattle vacation, J and I took the coffee tour with Seattle By Foot. All I can say is WOW. I expected this to be a cheesy tourist thing. I was wrong. Our guide was Penny, and she did a great job helping us to understand the Seattle coffee scene.
We ended up having great coffee and different types at each stop. I didn’t realize it when we signed up, but we also had a nice snack at Biscuit Bitch. Another stop included truffle tasting with cold brewed coffee. Mmmmmmmm. Yum.
So glad to have such a knowledgeable guide as Penny. We will be recommending Seattle By Foot to all of our friends!
Other great aspects about the tour: No Starsucks and you get a great history lesson on Seattle.

Really enjoyed the Pub tour. It was a bit awkward at first, being the only solo traveller but after the 2^nd stop everyone started to warm up. In the end, two others and I went back to one of the stops to eat and try another beer.
The stops were interesting, the guide was knowledgable, entertaining, and a trooper. She walked the whole tour on a broken foot in a boot.
Would recommend for sure. I wouldn’t have been to some of the spots if a local hadn’t shown us the way.

I attended a walking tour with Ed. We were a small group with a very personal touch.
There was ample time for questions and it was far from a scripted tour.
The tour was really comprehensive with great width.
Ed was truly interested in personalizing the information and showing the participants gems outside the standard must-see items.
Pricing was very reasonable and included a coffee (and a small chocolate nibble).
I can highly recommend attending the tour.

Food by Foot’s Coffee Crawl is a well spent time to see and learn about both Seattle and Coffee. Our knowledgable and friendly tour guide Ed was full of information and enthusiasm on the topic. Our small group visited six cafés. Each one unique in their type of roasting levels. We also stopped for Biscuit Bitch’s fluffy delights. Yum, and definitely a place for a second stop. Then there was Intrigue Chocolates with its cold brew coffee. Amazingly delicious chocolates changed the taste of the cold coffee. Flavors change weekly my favorite today was lavender lemonade, second pepper chocolate. The walk down quaint alleys festooned with colorful flower baskets were a delight to the eye. We ended the tour with espresso at Café Umbria.
This is a spot on tour.

I would highly recommend this tour to any budding coffee enthusiast! Ed was a spectacular host, guiding us through all of the local independent coffee houses. We loved hearing the history of the area and finding shops tucked away and hidden from the tourists. This tour is a must for all those visiting and living in Seattle!

We have gone on two of their tours and they were so much fun!
First, we went on the coffee crawl (with a 2 year old in tow) with Ed as our guide. Ed knows Seattle, and his passion for the city is infectious! We were taken off the sidewalks and down scenic alley ways that we never would have found. The coffee stops were marvelous and each destination was ready for us upon arrival. This tour is a must for coffee lovers
Later (and without the 2 year old) we went on the beer tour with Penny as our guide. The tour was a blast, Penny is ridiculously charismatic and lots of fun. By the end of the tour we all felt like best friends!
