Tubby’s Tank House

Usually pretty good food. Today we tried brunch and I was so disappointed. The French Toast on the menu simply says «served with warm maple syrup and bacon». It does not tell you that is is prepared deep fried to the point that it’s crunchy and bears no resemblance to actual french toast. There was no flavor and it was not enjoyable at all.

We ate an early dinner here with the kids after venturing through Bonaventure Cemetery. The kids each had a basket of fried fish while my wife and I had the boiled and friend shrimp platters, respectively. Everything was fresh and tasty, with the fried fish and shrimp not overly breaded– this is a good thing! They also have a fairly deep craft beer menu so if you’re looking for some local suds, this is a good spot for you. If you want a good, casual family seafood dinner, you can’t go wrong with Tubby’s. It ain’t fancy, and that’s alright.

I decided to try Tubby’s again after a bad experience a few years ago. Walking in I was told they are under construction. This made me very skeptical. Turns out that didn’t matter at all! The food and atmosphere was amazing! My sever was happy and upbeat. The whole experience was phenomenal! I can’t wait to go back!

Service was slow. We should have turned around when we first walked in and smelled that nasty old fish smell. The place reaks of throwup or something else that just died. Or yeah the fried fish basket was horrible. Just had to use this coupon for 5 bucks off. They needed to give us a free entrée. See pic.

They also charged an extra $ 6 on my card for a tip. Even though I put a zero with a slash through it on the tip line on the receipt. We left a cash tip on the table for our server. I always check my card for instances like this so luckily I saw the charge and had management refund me. Always check for the correct charge to your card.

Great fish fingers. Great hush puppies. Great fresh meaty crab legs. Great po boys. Great fried oysters. Everything we have tried has been great. We often wait a while for a refill but the servers are very friendly and personable and we understand how busy things can be. The ambiance inside is fun boat house feel and outside is a really neat tree house with nice lighting and bistro-​like tables. We always like to come here with friends who are visiting from out of town. Great food, atmosphere and service.

Waiting over an hour for food is kind of ridiculous! They said they are busy but the parking lot looks not so

On a recent stay in Savannah my cousin suggested we meet at Tubby’s Tankhouse in Thunderbolt for Sunday brunch. I think there is one on River Street too.
We arrived around 11:15 and walked around checking where we wanted to sit. It has an indoor and outdoor bar, an indoor dining room and I believe two outdoor dining rooms. One is downstairs and the second is an upstairs deck facing the water. The indoor room was kind of dark so we chose the upstairs deck despite the fact that it was a bit chilly. It was so nice and peaceful. It only seats maybe 15 to 20 people on this deck so it’s almost like having your own dining room.
We ordered drinks (local beer for my husband and my cousin and I both had Margaritas which were really good). We skipped appetizers and my husband ordered the brunch BLT and my cousin and I both had shrimp salads in their homemade tortilla bowls. My salad was good even if the bowl was a little greasy, but, that’s to be understood since it was freshly made. My husband’s BLT was enormous. It was on Texas Toast and had 9 slices of bacon on it… yes NINE… he counted them! He said it was awesome.
The service was friendly and efficient especially considering that she had to run up and down those stairs every time she had to get something. I would return here in the future and recommend sitting on the roof top deck if the weather permits.

The French toast is one dish that you must come here for!!! Fit for every foodie out there! Thanks to Andrew Zimmern for pointing us out this way. Gloria served us and she was a delight and helped us enjoy our meal, and also enjoy our bottomless mimosas by bringing us carafes!
Tucked away in Savannah, and away from all the tourists. The patio is a great area to sit in, perfect for outdoor dining for lunch or brunch. Oh by the way, their brunch menu is spectacular! Save your trip to Tybee Island, and get your low country boil here!

Tubbys is the place to be! Every time I visit Savannah I make a visit! They have some of the best seafood I have ever tasted and now that I’m 21 I’m excited to try the drink options! I’m going to be honest and admit that I can’t really comment on the quality of staff. I’ve always been too wrapped up in the delicious food. I know the prices are also a little steep but then again you get what you pay for. Overall, Tubbys is an amazing hole in the wall and worth a ⁴⁄₅ star rating!

Really disappointing, inattentive service, mediocre food, small portions even for seafood, and the worst hush puppies I’ve ever had.

Two maybe 2.5 stars because I like to come here for drinks outside in thunderbolt. Breakfast sucks. They used soggy, frozen spinach in an omelette. Very unappetizing. Cool place to drink, but it is still supposed to be a restaurant, and that’s where the tank house tanks. Typical, deep fried fare for the tourists and gutter palates. Do yourself a favor, go down the road to tortugas to eat and come to tubby’s for drinks.

The spot is really nice because we can ride our bikes over, and there’s really nothing quite as lovely as riding bikes or walking through thunderbolt. There is a cute little kitty cat that wanders around which is endearing. Also in the fall they had a really really pretty pumpkin/​flower/​Haybale set up where you can take cute pictures. As for the food, I can’t comment beyond the one time we came. I don’t recall eating anything super exciting and I felt that the prices were a bit high. We got a coupon in the mail sometimes and I think you can use it for breakfast which sounds really appealing to me. I do remember sitting out at the bar eating free popcorn. You really can’t go wrong with popcorn. And beer. They have a lot of really good beer options. Yes, I think once I have this baby I will go back to drink a beer and eat popcorn on the porch. I enjoyed sitting outside and will definitely return just for that!

Tried the seafood sampler appetizer. The fish fingers were piping hot and the shrimp and oyster were good, though somewhere few in number. The standout of the whole meal, though, was the Hebrew National Chili Cheese Dog and fries LOL IT. WAS. AWESOME. Sometimes you just want to know a place can get the basics right and this was amazingly good. I’ll be back to try more of their offerings. Best food I’ve had since moving here three weeks ago.

Over rated, bad service portions were extra small, warm. Let’s see if I can say anything positive. We got plenty of cold water — oh da that’s free! Cold food bad service and the place wasn’t even busy.

Delicious fresh fish and seafood and offered a multitude of ways — steamed, fried, on salads, blackened. Grouper and Scallops were amazing and perfectly cooked. Attentive but not intrusive service. We may have a new lunch spot

Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Went in for lunch with my wife and my in-​laws. Nice day so we choose outside seating. We ended up going to the top of the tub, and it was great. The girl serving us was happy and very friendly. I know it has to be no fun running up those stairs for one party, but she never let on.
We ordered several appetizers and ate them as our meal. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and that Thai peanut sauce might be the best thing I’ve tasted in Savannah. We also ordered the seafood sampler and the shrimp risotto with cream sauce. First, the seafood sampler was good. Exactly what you’d expect for fried seafood. The shrimp risotto was absolutely delicious. The cream sauce was probably the most talked about part of the meal. The risotto cake was fantastic. Not overdone but pure perfection. The fried asparagus was great, and the sauce with it was fantastic. You might see a trend here, they know how to make great sauces. The only downer was the crab legs. Gave em a shot to see how they were and eh. We all agreed on a day when they’re busy and steaming them up regularly they’re probably as amazing as everything else.
This place was great all around. I don’t think I’d change one thing. Was really impressed with our server keeping a smile on her face the whole time and running us drinks up.

My family & I decided to take a chance with Tubby’s after we unfortunately couldn’t get a table at the Crab Shack for a while. My daughter wanted to see the gators :)
However, we were still excited to try this spot and have heard good things. We are new to Savannah and this was our first experience.
Well, we were seated in the middle of the dinning room and I was assured by the hostess it wouldn’t be a problem because we do have five small children and i didn’t want to be the center of attention. Unfortunately the table of three across from us from it a problem and didn’t like it. They showed this by all three just staring at us the entire time, it was like they were waiting for one of our children to act out. My children however were content with their coloring.
We tried to not let the staring affect us. I really wanted some good seafood. Unfortunately we never even got to order!
The waitress was rude and kept trying to rush the children to order a drink. Mind you they had no apple juice or orange juice which was their first two choices! She never took our drink order quickly ran off and came back about 10 minutes later just to do the same dance all over again!
At this point we were waiting 15 minutes and still not having anything to drink my three year old became fussy and the waitress ignored us when we tried to call her over.
We decided Tubby’s Tank House was NOT the place for us and we walked out without even receiving drinks!
Horrible first experience and we will not be back! Next time I will wait the hour at the Crab Shack!

Definitely a good place to come to located in the historic part of savannah. Don’t have allot to compare it to as of yet, but for my first restaurant experience in Savannah this was a good one. Parking was simple, it overlooked the Savannah River, and service couldn’t have been better.

The food and the service was great. The portions are amazing for the price. I had spinach dip and the Tubby Two with scallops and oysters. The scallops were sweet and fried and the oysters were very good. The spinach dip was served with fresh warm bread. And Gloria was our waitress and she knew the menu and gave excellent suggestions.

My husband and I went to Tubby’s last night and really liked the food. He had the fish sandwich and I had the fish salad (they used sheepshead). The fish was very fresh and tasty – we had it blackened. The cucumber onion dressing is a house specialty and totally lives up to the hype.
I also have to mention our fabulous server, Michelle. She made excellent recommendations and she was hilarious! We felt bad that we were too stuffed for dessert, but she forgave us.
