History

Established in 2013.

Founded by Brian Foley, the inception of Buddytruk was born after Foley had a moving accident while trying to move into a new apartment. Foley was then determined to create an on-​demand option to help people who needed trucks connect with other people who had trucks in urban settings. Thus the idea of Buddytruk was born. With Buddytruk you can easily hire a truck and driver as easily as you hail an Über and never worry about having to rent a truck again to move your couch across town or pick up your self-​assembly furniture from Ikea. It’s a simple idea that will certainly revolutionize moving.

When I was moving from the Westside to downtown in January, I remembered hearing Buddytruk founder, Brian Foley’s «founder story» on stage at Silicon Beach Fest. It resonated, and when it came time for my move, I was excited to try their «buddy with a truck» moving service. I had a really old iPhone 4 at the time and my app didn’t load, so I gave them a call, and their really nice team walked me through getting set up very quickly and easily. It’s on-​demand, so I called them back about an hour and half before my move time. I spoke to one buddy who wasn’t sure he could fit all my things, so canceled that, but then talked to a second buddy Cannon, who was AMAZING, and Cannon arrived shortly after. He assessed everything, and like Tetris, we were able to move all my things (a big desk, full size bed, big dresser, tall mini fridge, boxes of clothes and books, and my bike) into his pick-​up truck in a very organized fashion. It was very STRESS-​FREE, fun, and simple. We caravanned steadily and safely to my new home in the Arts district, and unloaded everything together into my new room. Cannon was super professional, communicated really well, took the pain out of the move, and made everything go smoothly. I’m so thankful to Buddytruk and Cannon!!! I definitely recommend you go with them.

Very, very happy with Buddtruk. At first I was concerned that it might be too hard and expensive to get two drivers so that I did not have to do any carrying myself, but I gave it a shot and I’m so glad I did. I called the budytruk office to get help with how to order two to arrive at the same time and they were so helpful. Then with great communication and within one hour both drivers showed up at the same time. They did an AMAZING job –careful, efficient, fast– packing up and bringing our office furniture (sofa, credenza, desk, chair, boxes etc.) down a flight of stairs and then back up the stairs into our apartment. No damage, all smiles, very professional. And the price was really reasonable!

What an amazing experience I had this weekend moving from Santa Monica to Brentwood!
I have heard about BuddyTruk on a few occasions and have seen them at the beaches having events and providing free water for everyone. I was a little skeptical at first and was worried that I wouldn’t have a driver available on Sunday and contemplated on hiring a moving company.
The driver arrived early, extremely professional, and helped out more than I can imagine. I had glass tables, large mirrors, big dressers and a ton of boxes.
The move was so smooth and fast that I was amazed on how great this service is. The app is extremely user-​friendly and easy to sign up. Only feedback I would suggest is integrating GPS to the driver so you can view the estimated time for arrival through the app.

The good news: The driver, Eric, was great. He called, made sure my items would fit, arrived quickly, packed them carefully, was polite and helpful.
The cost was great, only $ 60 for Venice to Sherman Oaks.
The bad news: the app.
It didn’t keep me informed. So it wasn’t clear if a driver was chosen and if he hadn’t called I wouldn’t have known from the app.
It didn’t show me status on where he was. It didn’t show me that he’d made the pickup, or alert me of his arrival (his call did).
Finally, it didn’t notify me about the cost, I had to check the app and find out.
So – it’s a good service, but if I were you I’d put a note in the note box asking the driver to call you (thankfully, Eric did without asking).Because otherwise, the app doesn’t keep you informed.

Hmm… my quote for a delivery that’s 8.8 mi, 17 min away, was roughly $ 40 – 50 with tips.
To my surprise… even though the driver was 3 hours late, my cost ended up being around $ 105. Mind you I researched traffic and chose a time window with the least traffic in LA! I’m very weary and reluctant to use this in the future… unless things change.
I was not given any specific breakdown… you are basically at the mercy of the driver… who, for all I know, could have taken an hour lunch and added that time to my trip charge!
What a sham!!! This service was recommended to me by Art at HD Buttercup… and I am pissed off at both, the furniture company and BuddyTruk.
I would urge you to reconsider if you are offered this service!

First time using this service and it worked exactly as described. Bought a table off Craigslist and needed it moved about 2 miles to our new house. (Los Feliz to East Hollywood)
The app worked no problems. I did initially get a text saying it was difficult to pair me with a driver, however seconds later I was assigned one. Jorge (driver) was great, arrived very quickly and the whole thing was completed in about 20 mins.
I used a Groupon voucher so the service cost me $ 20 (instead of the minimum $ 29). You call Buddytruk before you book a driver (phone number’s on the voucher) and they apply it to your account and that’s it. Didn’t even need to print it out.
I realise that it may not always be this quick and easy — it was early on a Saturday on Jan 2nd so pretty quiet, Jorge wasn’t far from me to begin with, the planets aligned, the gods smiled etc etc — but for a first time use it was exactly what I wanted it be. Quick, easy and a minimum of fuss. I use Über all the time and this is Über for moving stuff. Should have called it Muber.

Purchased a chest from an app called letgo when I went to picked it up it was way bigger than I thought so it won’t fit in the trunk. Requested buddytruk right away and even though it’s the holiday week I got matched with a buddy within 5min. Everything went well and fast since the chest wasn’t too heavy and we only had to go for about 2miles and in less than 15min we arrived to my place. Was so happy about it until I checked that I was charged $ 29 which was more expensive than what I though it should be, which is around $ 17. I check the website to see if there’s any minimum charge right away and couldn’t find any info about that. Called them right after that and no answer. I was pissed but I thought I’ll try again tomorrow since it was 8.45pm. Less than 10min later Chelsea from buddytruk called me and I told her what happened. She immediately apologize and told me that there’s a $ 29 minimum charge but after I told her that I couldn’t find that information anywhere she said she will check with the management to see if they could help me and will email me as soon as she get the answer.
In less than 30min I got an email from her and $ 20 credit which I can use to pay for my last buddytruk so I only had to spent $ 9.
I am very grateful. Buddytruk is very convenient and act really fast on making up for the inconvenience. I highly recommend to use buddytruk.

I just heard about this service a couple of days ago which was timely because I was trying to figure out how to get some building materials from Home Depot to my house. Renting a truck was possible but even short term can be expensive.
Signing up was very quick and easy. From there it couldn’t get much simpler. You enter the pick up location and then the drop off location and press enter.
I received a call from David within about 5 minutes. We set up a meeting spot in the often hectic Home Depot lot and he called me when he arrived.
We loaded up, took everything to my place and he helped carry everything up to the backyard.
I’ll definitely be using the app again and more over will let my friends know there is an option to struggling to move things yourself.

Couldn’t have been happier… I have used them at least 5 times. The last time I was able to leave my purchase at the service desk and David picked it up and brought my furniture within the hour. It’s not easy to move around in LA and BuddyTruk has helped remove stress. I’ve recommended them to my girlfriends and we love it. Just wish it was around when I was in college.

Used them again to move two TVs I bought at Costco and the pairing took a little over 10 minutes so they called back to let me know my next move was free. I think the problem is they don’t have enough drivers handy so even though this service is supposed to be on demand, like Über, it really isn’t…but I still will call them to help anytime I have something that needs a truck to move. The movers are polite and efficient and I don’t have to waste my time renting a truck and returning it. And then separately booking labor to help me move.

Buddytruk was an incredible success during my move. Not only was the driver friendly and knowledgeable about how to properly load all my fragile items, but he was also extremely efficient and a pleasure to work with. I was able to fit my entire bedroom in the bed of his truck (I.e. Bed, frame, headboard, dresser, and extras). I would definitely use buddytruk again and highly recommend the app to anyone who is looking for an easy, simple move with no reservation required.

Just want to say this was the best idea ever. I had the worse day and didn’t think this Buddytruk would happen. A guy by the name of Canon came and helped me move a very large and extremely heavy bed frame. My car stalled on me twice. Canon helped push car to main road and even waited for nearly an hour until the tow company or a friend could come. I insisted I could stay alone he wouldn’t leave until he knew I was safe and car would run. Not only did he make it in a small window my items we’re well taken care of and he was a good Samaritan as well. Canon is the best…

I had a good experience in Austin with Brandon! I’ve been moving nonstop since mid-​September and I’m just so over it. Today, I bought a mattress off CL and tried Buddytruk for the first time since I wasn’t really in the mood go through Budget Truck’s long process.
I informed my buddy ahead of time of what’s gonna happen. He was very responsive and communicative throughout. Granted it is a bit more expensive than just renting a truck and doing it yourself but avoiding the stress and hassle and not to mention paperwork, deposits and having to make reservations ahead of time is so well worth all of it! I was able to use a 50% off coupon from Groupon which brought my $ 41 fee down to $ 21. Of course I tipped my buddy for being awesome!

I used their service to move a dresser from Century City to Santa Monica. The best part? I didn’t even need to be there! I paid the person with PayPal and the buddytruk person (Jamie) showed up, called me to let me know he arrived, I released payment to the seller and then Jamie was at my door 20 min later. Not only that, he moved it into my house and was the sweetest guy! I love this service!!! It was awesome!

Like Über for moving stuff
I had a coupon code from Unilocal and I really wanted to move a chair from my house to my storage unit so I could replace it with a newer chair — but had two issues — my car is too small and I can’t lift anything heavy at all right now (I’m preggo). The Unilocal code couldn’t have come at a better time!
This was SO EASY!
I downloaded the app and entered my home and storage addresses. Within a couple minutes I was matched with a truck & driver, who called and gave me a 20 minute heads up that he’d be there soon. I like that the app specifies that the drivers are background checked and fully insured.
Samuel was great! Very friendly and helpful with a nice big pickup truck. He carried the new chair upstairs, took the old chair out and drove to my storage. He even took some additional items I’ve been meaning to bring to the storage unit as well. In less than an hour my moving job was done and the cost was WAY LESS than renting a truck or hiring a mover. The whole concept is genius. Totally worth it and will definitely use this service again!
We’ve now used Buddytruk 3 times — and have also moved a refrigerator and a couch into storage. Every time has been easy peasy and inexpensive :)

Buddy Truk is THE BEST. I heard about them from a friend and used them today– what could have easily been the most frustrating evening turned out perfect. Here is how it started out– I learned that the only way for me to get dibs on this awesome free couch my friend was GIVING away, I had to pick it up by TODAY. The problem is that I was at work in Beverly Hills and I drive a Mini Cooper so there is NO WAY that is happening solo. Enter Buddy Truk!
After learning about this option from a friend I went and downloaded the app. The app was super easy! After completing the app, I was connected with a mover (similar to Uver) At first I was a little nervous, but the mover called me ahead of time to go over logistics– we were to move a couch from Los Feliz to Sherman Oaks. Easy, right? NO. There were so many twists and turns we had to get the couch out of a backyard, through trees and a long gravel path, down stairs and into the truck– then across the freeway to Sherman Oaks, into my home, into my backyard, up a corridor of narrow stairs and with the skills of some pro tetris players, we were finally able to get the couch through the door! (This would not have been a problem if I had measured properly)
Honestly I was dreading the experience– moving a couch is the last thing I want to oversee on a Tuesday– well, any night of the week. However, Carl, who I highly recommend, was awesome. He was smiling and telling jokes the whole way through. With an experience like this (Which was at times frustrating because the damn couch was so big and awkward!) most people would have either given up or expressed frustration, but Carl somehow made it enjoyable!
I would totally use Buddy Truk again!

I used BuddyTruk a few times to move some larger items. They are exactly what they advertise, «When you need a buddy, with a truck!». Takes all of the hassle out of renting a u-​haul and picking up some day laborers from outside of Home Depot.
The app is really easy to use, just enter in your pickup and drop off locations and you’re all set! The only downside that I’ve experienced is that the app doesn’t tell you where your Buddy is or how far out he is (unlike Über), so you may have to wait awhile before your Buddy arrives.
The Buddies that I’ve gotten were super cool. No problems with all. They helped me load and unload. Makes moving crap so much easier w/​BuddyTruk.
