History

Established in 2013.

iSurf was founded due to the lack of women present in today’s surf line ups. In the history of surfing, women have stood among the first and greatest surfers. The oldest known story of surfing chronicles the mythical Kelea, who was born of royalty in Maui and is said to have out-​surfed riders of both genders. Fast forward to today where surfing is clearly a male-​dominated sport, and we have to ask ourselves, what happened?

Ladies, we know that we can do anything a man can do, only better! It’s time to take back the waves and shake up the lineup. Join us as we bring the spirit, strength, and style of women surfing to the water.

I didn’t grow up surfing. I was amongst the women going to the beach to tan, socialize and watch the boys surf but that didn’t mean I didn’t want to surf. Secretly in my head I wanted to learn to surf but never had the proper instruction to make me feel that comfortable with the waves and the ocean. Finally, I moved to Hawaii following a boy and it was there I decided I was going to learn to surf. I looked for a surf school specifically for women and unfortunately only found ones that taught both genders. I have nothing against boys/​men. I just wanted to learn to surf with other women. This was the moment that I first thought of creating my own surf school just for women.

It would take almost a decade before my dream would turn into a reality but none the less that day has come. iSurf is a surf school just for women specializing in group and private surf classes. Come join other women and learn to surf so that we can take back the lineup from the men.
