Reuben Borg Fence

The worst experience I can remember having with a service provider. First they installed a fence for me with boards that were cracked, bend, had large holes in them, and were not installed properly. They later came back and fixed most of the issues but not all of them.
When they came back to look at the work that still wasn’t done right they complained to me that they were «tired of coming out to my house.» This is unbelievable. If they did good work the first – or second time – they would not have to come back to my house.
To make matters worse their trucks always leak oil and they don’t know that they’re supposed to clean up after themselves when they’re done.
One star is too high a rating for this company.

We had RB fencing company come out to give us a railing estimate for our deck. It took 3 weeks before they could schedule us in. Once there, the estimator said he usually would give the estimate right on the spot but in our case he needed a day or two. After four days I called him and said «did I miss the estimate or is it still coming?»… oh yes, he said, it’s coming tonight or tomorrow. A week later still nothing and I called him again and texted too and no response at all. Terrible service. Rude. Annoyed non-​customer.

I was on the HOA board for a townhouse community in Clayton and still serve on the fence committee. We have spread our fence replacement work out between 4 different fencing companies over the past 12 years, finding prices and work relatively comparable, however, we started using Reuben Borg Fence about a year ago and currently use them exclusively. The quality of the wood and workmanship is noticeably better than the previous companies we used but at a comparable price.
This past winter we also used them to replace our community pool fencing. Mr. Borg attended a board meeting to explain the different fencing materials available and to explain the advantages and disadvantages of switching from wrought iron to aluminum. We went with the aluminum option so that we don’t have to worry about painting and rust again — and so far are very happy with the results.

I used Reuben Borg fence for our gate because of their Unilocal reviews and the image they projected of providing a product that that stood by and could count on their warranty. I was up sold on the tubular steal framed gate with clear board face (no knots to prevent cracking). It hasn’t even been 7 months and one board has cracked from top to bottom where the nails were placed. I figured it was no big deal, they seemed to talk highly of their warranty. When I called they requested photos, I sent them immediately and requested a phone call back. Later they sent me an email stating that it was due to the natural aging of the wood. It is obvious that it is a defect of the wood or because they hung the wood wet and it cracked when drying. It is was even a year after I would understand but it’s only been 7 months when they sold me a 10 year warranty. Don’t use them. They don’t stand behind their product or workmanship.

They did my and my neighbors fence and did an ok job, came back to add onto neighbors fence, parked in my front yard three days in a row even after telling them not to, drove over my plants and yard lights, called to complain, took days to return my call. Set up appt to come look at damage and never showed up or called? They like to get your business but they are a no show when it comes to cleaning up their mess and don’t care unless you are in middle of a job with them. They forget about return business. Do not recommend you use them unless you don’t care about your neighbors.

We have had our fence for six months, and we are still regularly talking about how much we enjoy it. It is a beautiful privacy, nicely defining our space, replacing a wire fence I put in 30 years earlier. My wife had wanted a Reuben Borg Fence for years and years; I once again truly appreciate her wisdom.
Joel Mendoza and Saul did the work. Saul was the foreman who worked wonders clearing brush and trees with his machete, and designed/​installed a perfect fence; accommodating an almost, but not quite flat terrain. Joel’s bilingual expertise was flawless, greatly improving on my poor Spanish. He was right in the thick of installing our wonderful fence.
An unexpected benefit was seeing that we could put in fruit trees along the back fence. We now have 9 fruit trees that will provide over 30 different varieties of fruit continuously over a five month period. Sweet! (in more ways than one)
They also put in two gates, one on either side of our house. I wish I had also gone through with adding one on the back fence, which would have made it easier to dig the drain trenches under the fence, used for the fruit trees.
We were lucky enough to talk directly with Reuben. He is a wonderful person, which just added that much more to the overall project. You can’t beat quality work from a quality company.

I’m kicking myself for not taking before and after pictures of our fence. I don’t think I can describe how awful the original fence looked when we moved in this past summer. Our new fence has made SUCH a difference (we actually are looking forward to warmer weather so we can go sit outside and look at it more)! The job was done on time, and took two very hard working men to install in one day (I don’t think they even stopped for lunch)! We live on a corner lot and this project was just the first they did for us, we are getting ready to have them come out and do the next side.
As far as cost, I was really surprised to see a lot of reviews saying they were one of the most expensive. Did you guys even get any other quotes? I sure did, as a fence is an expensive project no matter how you look at it. So when we first got the house I got quotes from FIVE places, including Reuben Borg, and they were by far the best price for what they offered. Everything from the initial on site quote to the communication and follow up at the end was 5 stars!

I contacted the company about purchasing some of their reclaimed wood to create a wall treatment for our house. Happy to say they were able to accommodate our request. In fact, they have tons of different lumber in their yard, neatly stacked on pallets. Once I selected the materials, Ruben helped me load it into the back of my truck with his forklift. The process was pretty seamless. Ruben and his team have excellent customer service!

Reuben and his crew were very professional and got the job done! They were on time, installed a quality product and made sure I was happy with the end result.

In life bad things happen. That’s a given. But when you take your first sip of coffee and look out the window and see thirty feet of elderly, ivy and jasmine covered fence laying in your swimming pool… well, while it’s not a total catastrophe, it ranks right up there in my top ten ways not to start out a new day.
After dealing with an equally elderly neighbor who caused the avalanche of shrubbery into my pool, it was agreed I would contact a fencing contractor and make arrangements. Of course, I thought first of Reuben Borg Fencing. But though I’d heard they did a really good job, I’d also heard they were the most expensive.
Not happy with the previous contractor I’d used for another section of fence a couple years earlier, where he used low quality boards, full of knotholes and a piece of white string for pulling the latch up on the gate. I decided I would call Reuben. After all, my mother always said you get what you pay for.
I explained I had a pool, and it was a situation that needed to be dealt with pretty quickly. Much to my surprise he offered to be there in thirty minutes. And he was. He was professional, friendly, and sympathetic. And though they were booked solid going forward, with some big jobs coming up. He offered to get a two man crew out there the very next day and knock out the job. Eliminating my liability because of the pool.
So I thought, wow, now he’s going to write a quote and take complete advantage of my dire straights. Oh contraire. He stood right there and gave me an extremely competitive bid. His bid was three dollars a foot more than the contractor I’d used before with the white twine and the low quality boards.
The next morning, fifteen minutes before the crew was due to arrive, my neighbor comes rolling out of his house, making last minute demands. I explained, since the crew was due shortly, and with a truck full of lumber, making changes was going to be a problem. Not to mention we might have to wait weeks before he could get another crew in to do the work. The neighbor didn’t want to be reasonable, and walked back into his house yelling over his shoulder, «Well see about that.»
Reuben arrives with his crew and finds me, upset to say the least. I told him I still wanted to go forward with the job, even without the neighbor paying his share.
Reuben went to the neighbor and charmed the old bugger, listened to his concerns, reassured him and by the time he was done, they were the best of friends.
The job, where my yard is a good four feet lower than the neighbors, and utilizes a raised planting bed that serves as a retaining wall, it was not an easy job. Angel and Eddie both polite, patient with the elderly neighbor and really hard workers, knew their stuff.
Before the day was over, the job was done, ungodly amounts of debris cleaned up and taken away, the walkway swept and without any dirt or rocks sitting at the bottom of my pool. The fence is gorgeous and I even found they’d replaced the string on the gate with a high quality latch, for no charge.
Now I ask… is that worth three dollars more per foot? For me, I couldn’t put a price on the way Reuben Borg handled a situation I was finding so stressful and I can’t imagine calling anyone else to build the next fence I need replaced. And the way that one is leaning, I think it may be sooner than later. At least it’s not near the pool.
And I know just who to call, if the other neighbor get’s obstreperous.

Reuben Borg has supported a charity called Missing Man Ministry since it was started and just donated a beautiful fence for a widow with young elementary aged boys so she can start a daycare facility in her home. Reuben donated the entire fence, gate, the whole enchilada for FREE as this lady was a stay at home mom and wants to take care of her family without depending on the government to get by. The fence was installed two weeks ago and they built it in the time frame they promised and left the job site cleaner than they found it. Please support this business. BTW, the fence is 5 stars.

I chose Reuben Borg Fence to construct the fence for my home and was not disappointed.
Moises came to my house to give an estimate and he was very thorough and provided several options. We decided on a combination of wood and deer fencing. This company is fairly busy, so I was scheduled in 2 months later and given a 1 week time frame in which the fence would be completed. I greatly appreciated that they did not require a deposit.
Moises and a team of fence construction workers showed up 2 months later as agreed, with a truckload of wood and supplies. He re-​confirmed everything we had discussed, and the employees went to work. The wood they used is very high quality. The employees worked pretty quietly and diligently as well, one employee in particular who seemed to have the most experience and best craftsmanship.
The fence was completed within 4 days, and I am pleased with the results. I would recommend Reuben Borg Fence.

From start to finish, we loved our experience with Reuben Borg fences. They were referred to us by a good friend, and now we understand why! Reuben came out to give us a consultation of a replacement fence, and he was extremely helpful. We replaced a shared fence with our neighbor, and he made sure to discuss and go over everything with both my neighbor and I. He was very informative and very easy to work with. After Reuben, we had two other people come out for consultations, and no one came close to Reuben’s helpfulness, experience, and professionalism. Reuben’s estimate was a little over what another contractor quoted us, but since we knew that Reuben’s company would do great, we had no problem spending a little extra for QUALITY work. AND, when asked how long the work would take, I was pleasantly surprised when Reuben said only 1 day.
The morning of the workday, the guys showed up on time and were very nice, and very respectful of our home and yard. After a half hour of them being there, the old fence was gone! It was amazing to see afterwards, step by step, the new fence appear! The night and day difference between our old fence and new fence is truly remarkable. We LOVE looking at our fence now, instead of cringing looking at the old one. Reuben’s guys did a fantastic job building our gorgeous new fence, and took all the old fence away when they were done! We didn’t have to lift a finger to do anything, Reuben’s guys handled it all!
Again, we were very happy with the whole process of replacing our fence, and if we ever need more work done, we will be calling them again. I have thanked our friend who referred them to us, and we will definitely be passing their name along to anyone who needs work done.

We interviewed a handful of fencing contractors and found Reuben, Eli and their team to be the best option. We weren’t entirely sure which style fence to go with so they showed us pictures and helped us make a decision.
The estimate was reasonable and they were able to get us on the calendar quickly. They even completed the work in one day. Reuben was available for questions and concerns throughout the process and we ended up with a fence we love and neighbors regularly compliment.

WORST SERVICE, EXPENSIVE AND DO NOT USE THEM! My neighbor had our shared fence done.
1) When they finished, they left a big gap on the other side of my fence and we had to patch it temporarily and no one came to fix it for 3 weeks.
2) I called 4 times to have someone call me back to fix the rest of my fence that they did not finish. NO ONE CALLS ME BACK. Shannon and Jeffrey on their staff, unreliable.
3) But when it is time to collect payment, oh, they were very prompt. They even woke my wife as they came early to collect the check.
4) I used AMM fencing before, I highly recommend them. Easy to talk to, reasonable price and have good business ethics.

I hired Reuben Borg to install a gate in my backyard. Eli, the guy who comes out and provides the estimate told me the gate would match the rest of the fence. Well the new gate does not match the existing fence-​the gate needs to be stained. I called the company to let them know the workers didn’t stain the gate, and the told me that wasn’t included in my estimate. When Eli told me everything would match, what exactly was he talking about then? The company wouldn’t cover the cost of the staining.
Update: I got a call from the company saying they agree I was mislead and will come out to stain my fence. The guy who called was friendly, apologetic and sent workers out right away to stain the fence. I had already bought the stain, so they reimbursed me for the cost of the stain plus some extra money. Lesson learned about specifically asking about staining during the estimate, and I would definitely hire this company again.

I ended up with a nice fence, but it was not cheap and it was not easy. After Rueben Borg’s 4^th attempt to build/​repair a basic redwood fence, the job finally got done well. While I am glad the salesperson took action to resolve the problems after I posted the original review, I still have no idea why there was no quality control on the first, second, or third try. Overall a frustrating experience.

Reuben gets 5 stars for sure!
This review is on behalf of myself and my wife. Reuben and his team did a fantastic job on our fence at our home. The chain fence was falling over, leaning and over 40 years old so we decided to replace with a redwood fence.
Knowing that installing a fence on a slope with trees can be extra challenging I wanted to make sure whoever worked on the project knew what they were doing. Setting up the appointment was easy enough and Reuben showed up just like he said he would. While my wife and I had a slight vision of how we pictured the fence layout to look, we really needed someone who could take ownership of the project and guide us. I felt confident after speaking with Reuben that he and his team could get the job done. I had a few companies look at the property, including a few other locals companies who doubled their quote simply because they didn’t know how they could do the job. Essentially upping their quote due to incompetence.
Reuben finished the job in less than than a day and a half to my surprise. Especially when they had to plan along while working (As I said, it’s a challenging property). I was home for most of project and noted how fast the crew worked, it was obvious everyone has been doing this type of work for some time. I also noted the materials used were top quality; heart of redwood and pressure treated «ground contact» boards for the ground work. They even impressed my Father-​in-​law, which is no easy task.
Again, my wife and I are super thrilled with the work that was done, Reuben also add in a 4″ cap on the posts which made the fence look wonderful.
