R H Hydronics

These guys have been doing work for us for the last 4 years. We bought a house in Sleepy Hollow that had been neglected and was 30 years old.
As part of the renovations, we had to replace the 30 year old hydronic boiler and they did it quickly and at a competitive price. Since then, we have had them relocate the entire boiler system out of the downstairs room and into the garage and again, they did a really, really nice job.
Highly recommended and great to do business with.

Robert is the smartest guy in the world. Just ask him. He has a seemingly credible excuse for every problem. He installed a high tech radiant heat and hot water system at my house but it proved to be so problematic that I eventually had him remove it and install new low tech systems similar to the ones he replaced. He installed my heating system without hooking it up to my thermostat. And charged me extra to come back and do it correctly. He told me I had heating tubes that let air bubbles in, but that the leaks weren’t large enough to let water escape from the system. He told me that a minor earthquake had somehow disrupted my piping. He told me that my guests were messing with the dials on his machine. He told me that there was a problem with my house, not his boiler. He sent guys out to work on it multiple times, but no one got it working for longer than three days. The last guys to work on the system pumped up the hydronic system pressure to about 100psi. The system is designed to work at 12psi. About 12 hours later, the system burst, flooding my basement. But Robert doesn’t answer his phone on weekends. My new system is low tech and is working fine. But it was installed improperly by Robert’s techs. Robert denied that the manufacturers requirements were necessary. I recently discovered that he has not been paying his suppliers. I suspect he will be out of business soon but until then AVOID if possible. I had delayed posting a negative review for fear that he would not honor the 5 year warranty he was supposed to provide. I suspect others were also hesitant for the same reason. Why two stars rather than one? His workers are very polite. I wish them luck finding new employment.

I am a Realtor. I contacted RH Hydronics based on the Unilocal reviews. I expressed that my client was buying an Eichler and they were concerned about the pipes in the flooring leaking and adequate heat coverage. I inquired as to whether they can test those pipes, including thermal imaging and provide a report as evidence.
On site I was told coverage was good but that the «newly installed» system was inadequate as it would constantly be cycling and that it was not to code. I was given a handwritten summary.
I contacted Robert at RH Hydronics who explained to me why the system was not to code. I asked that he provide documentation as part of the report to support this, such as the product manual, code etc. I was told no problem. I also asked for an estimate to replace the current system because in order for me to negotiate with the Seller and other Agent, I must have documented facts.
During that conversation I learned that the hot and cold water pipes also run in the floor and that this company does not test those and that I should contact American Leak and Detection. Why I was not told of this prior when I expressed the buyers concern about leaks in the flooring is beyond me.
In a few days I received the report… a typed version of the handwritten report and an invoice for replacement. I received no photos of coverage, no documents to support the system was not to code.
After a few more phone calls and some of my own research. The model installed TK-​3 is no longer manufactured. The Seller installed the unit in 2005. The manual for this model says it can be used for radiant heat, however, as Robert explained building codes created after 2005 does not allow for this system due to the high NOx. In essence, the system was to code based on the date installed.
What bothered me most is that we had to call American leak and detection to confirm the other pipes did not leak.
I will commend the owner as he did take my calls like a true professional and he seemed very knowledgeable, however, my expectations were higher based on my clear and concise requests and his response that what I was asking for would not be a problem.

I have used them last year, and was happy with the service rendered. But this summer the people answering the phone have been completely incompetent. I kept calling several times and was each time promised my calls would be returned, none of which happened. The person answering the phone told me i was her problem child, as if this were my fault, and promised she would call back later that day, but never did. I finally gave up, which was a blessing in disguise, since I found out there are plenty of other folks able to work on my hydronics system.

Pete arrived on time, worked professionally, explained the situation, and got the job done at a fair rate. I’d recommend him without hesitation.

Been without heat for a couple of days during this cold snap. BRRRRRRRRRR! PG &E can’t make it until Monday to relight my radiant heater boiler. YIKES!!! Call around and can’t get anyone for at least a week! Got in touch with R H Hydronics and within a couple of hours «Scott» came to my rescue and had it up and running within ten minutes! Hallelujah! Thank you, Scott and R H Hydronics! Saved us from another freezing night!

I couldn’t be more pleased with the responsiveness, craftsmanship, pricing, and service that R.H. Hydronics provides. From the depth of understanding around our mid-​century radiant heat, to the specialized system design, to the level of detail and quality of the install — these folks are the best. They are also a «Nest Certified Installer» if you have a Nest thermostat, which is extremely important if you have to deal with Nest product support. We like them so much that we’re looking forward to our fall service!

We had a very positive experience with Robert and crew. We had a three-​year-​old boiler, installed by another contractor, spring a leak just days before we were supposed to go on a one-​week vacation. Robert came by the day after I called, diagnosed the problem (a poor installation job), and the day after that had one of his guys out to fix it, as well as repair problems with the earlier installation. Very professional and responsive.

As a concrete contractor in the trades, there are a few things I leave to the professionals. This is one.
I called and spoke to Robert and he had his guy come out and start at 9:30 as promised. Scott was the guy he sent out.
He installed the Buderus Logano GC124 radiant heat boiler, which is an actual boiler, not an instant, hang on the wall unit.
The plumbing work was clean and done very well. The space was cleaned when Scott left and I would recommend RH Hydronics 100%.

Our radiant heating system went out and Robert was over the next day and we are saved!!!
His crew was very proficient and did a wonderful job of taking shoes off before entering our house, cleaning up after…

Robert did a great job installing radiant floor heat in our victorian flat in san francisco. He takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows. Customer service is great. I was very happy with the work.

I have an Eichler that I’ve been in for about 2 – 3 years now and needed some help with my radiant heating setup. The original under the floor pipes had been replaced long ago with wall mounted fixtures and a newer boiler that is probably 20 – 30 years old now. We had replaced the original 1050’s thermostat last year with a modern one for radiant heating applications, but it broke down a few months after and was not relaying the current temperature correctly costing $ 800 in PG&E bills back in January 2010. We shut it off for the year and finally this month replaced it with a new thermostat.
We turn it on, heard the boiler working, and felt the radiant heating wall fixtures get warn. For a few days we waited for the house to heat up. Nothing. I scan Unilocal for Hydronic and radiant services and found R. H Hydronics.
I got an appointment for the following day. Robert comes in and does his magic bringing in his case of tools. He services the pipes as they were in need of a long over due maintenance service. He also found that a spider had nested in the gas tube which was blocking much of the gas needed to ignite the boiler.
Robert is very professional and easy going. It’s like one of the family coming to help you out with your house :) He has a very close knit team so you don’t have to worry about random workers being sent to your house or losing the personal touch of a neighborhood/mom&pop service company.
