I wouldn’t have seen this place except that I was waiting on my tires at Costco and walked to get lunch…
Quick and easy!

This place is a total RIP OFF!!! I called for a price before I went. I have 2005 Chrysler… The owner Richard said it would cost $ 50. I told him I have a Unilocal discount for $ 20 therefore it should be $ 30. He said the discount was already included. How could the discount be included when you did not know I had a discount in the first place. I told him no thank you and hung up. He then called me back and said he would do it for $ 35. I said ok and drove over there. He did the test and my car did not pass… Because I needed a new oil dip stick. I said ok… I’ll get a dipstick and come back. I was then told that when I come back for a retest it will be ANOTHER $ 30 BECAUSE I HAVE THE GROUPON DISCOUNT!!! I knew nothing about a GROUPON discount and you are going to try to charge me another $ 30!!! When I inquired as to why I would be charged another fee when most places give you a retest for free if you don’t pass… The owner said «I am not going to discuss technicalities with you!» Do not give your money to this place… COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!

This guy is very unprofessional, when I came in for a smog check he just looked at me pushed a clipboard towards me to fill out and snatched my keys from the table. No hi, hello, how are you, how much it would cost, what the process was. No form of verbal communication whatsoever. I was confused because the last time I came in he was the exact opposite. Maybe I just caught him on a bad day?

Quick and friendly service. Went for a smog check and got right to business. I was there sooner than I thought. Dude took like 10 minutes, yet again there wasn’t any other customers.

I found this place on Unilocal after a Costco visit because they’re right next door. I should have walked out when they said $ 90 for an oil change with the certificate. My car failed smog because it needed an oil dipstick. Cool, easy fix. I go to o’reilly auto parts and get a replacement with plans to come back and pay the additional $ 10 fee they charge for another smog. I call them at 4:30 and tell them I’m on the way. They tell me, «no we close at 5 on Fridays»… But their hours say open until 6 online!
WTF Are they charging all that extra for when they have shitty customer service, a disgusting dark waiting room with ripped up carpets dirty walls and a dusty white leather couch to sit on??? I’ll never be back here again. Such a rip off!!!

Fast and friendly service! I was short on time and they got in and out in no time. $ 20 bucks off for Unilocal check in too! A little hard to find but its right behind burger king which should not be a problem. Usually horrible customer service at theses smog test centers but this one was different. They seem to actually WANT your business as opposed to those other places.

Employees are great the owner on the other hand is not a man of his word. While I was there 2 different customers left and refused service after he tryed to charge them more than what they had agreed on. I on the other hand call on a Monday at 2 and was told to bring my car in only to find that no one was there. After a second call I was told to come back at 4, luckily I called again because there was still no one there at 4. I would not recommend doing business here the owner will do anything to bring in a customer including lie.

Fast, easy and good staff. My Car failed the first smog test, the guy recommended a change of my intake valves, I did that with the auto mechanic across went the next few days and I was not charged, only for the certificate because my car passed this time.

I’ve taken two different cars here to get smogged with a Groupon. The reason why I’m giving one star is because I believe this place writes any price they want for a smog.
When I first took my husband car in, I had purchased a groupon and had to pay $ 8 for the certificate as stated. They were fast, efficient, and pretty awesome.
Second time, I took my own car to get smogged with the same deal but they charged me $ 10. I was extremely confused because the fine print still stated I had to be $ 8 for the certificate and was expecting the same experience I got few weeks prior. When asked about it, the guy simply stated «This is how I do it and was told to do it». Not a very good reason. Ok fine, don’t want to argue about it. Take my money so I can never come back here.
Even though, it’s a $ 2 difference, it’s the principal of being honest and this is NOT the place.

Not sure what smog certificates cost, but this one was $ 78 including the discount. The guy took my phone and put a review in when I mentioned it was the Unilocal discount.

I had a wonderful experience today getting a smog check. I was in and out in 15 minutes and the customer service was exceptional. At the end of my service when I say in my car there was a Halloween themed piece of candy sitting behind my steering wheel.
I must say it’s refreshing to know that there are still people and places of business out there that value customer service.

Great place! I used to go somewhere else for my DMV star certified smog check but that place closed so I had to look for a new one. Found this place here on Unilocal.Went in and the owner was easy to work with. He gave a reasonable price and his technician got it done in less than 20 minutes! No lines to wait in, no hassle. Very professional.
Definitely recommend this place to others and will be back for future smog checks.

I’m disappointed in myself for coming to get my car smog checked here. I was in a hurry because my registration payment was going to be due soon so this is where I ended up. $ 90 something dollars for a smog check?! I should have walked out right then and there. Definitely should have gone to any other spot in Oakland to get the same job done for about $ 30/​$ 40.
I was given a coupon to come back next time (I think it was $ 20 off) but that still doesn’t compare to other places.
Only plus was that I was in and out of there less than 10 minutes.

Seriously folks, if you value your time, $$$, sanity, and or your dignity DO NOT come here to have your vehicle smogged. I don’t care how good a deal it initially appears to be on Groupon.
I came down here drawn by the appealing deal they had advertised on Groupon for a test only smog check for $ 35… What could possibly go wrong for a smog check at such a reasonable price you might ask;
let me list the ways.
1) I finally remember to call down 24 hrs in advance to make an appointment as the coupon clearly states is policy only to be told «oh, no just drop on by, no appointment necessary». This wouldn’t typically annoy me, but I could have handled this several days sooner had I known this.
2) on arrival I discover that there’s an additional $ 30 dollar fee because it’s an older truck… well shucks.
2a) the guy then tells me, «next time don’t get Groupon I give you same price without it»…something about my experience tells me that’s highly unlikely.
3) SMOG test takes nearly an hour despite fact that I’m only person there. Once test is complete technician tells me I failed and my «timing was waaaay off» and to get that repaired and come back to re-​smog it for the everyday low price of $ 20 dollars more plus the $ 8.95 certificate — man this is really starting to add up.
hmm… odd… I’ve never had an issue before and even though it’s an older truck, it has less than 65,000 miles on it and I’ve never had any issues with it passing smog or anything else prior to this, but ok I’ll play along despite the fact that did I mention this is really starting to add up at this point?
4) I take my truck in to Jame’s Auto and Truck in San Leandro (I’d highly recommend) and find out the degree to which they said my timing was off, I’d be noticing some major problems… I haven’t
Mechanic asks if I watched the guy do the test, and saw him plug everything in like he was supposed to, I didn’t… mechanic says to leave truck with him and he’ll give it a look, but he thinks most likely it was a bad read.
5) Sure enough, I get my truck back only to find out there is absolutely nothing wrong with my truck’s timing. Nothing. It’s dead nuts what it’s supposed to be. The mechanic was kind enough to walk me through everything the smog person was supposed to do to get the correct reading, even going so far as to point out the instructions clearly printed on the front of my engine, all the while being kind enough not to explicitly state what a dumbass the technician was… bless his heart.
6) That set me back another $ 35 dollars.
Now it gets REAL interesting

If you’ve got an older vehicle, smog check is a must for DMV registration. Why are smog checks so expensive?! Thank you Unilocal and groupon for finding me this shop. They are quick, and give you whatcha need. I was in and out in 20 mins! It is a small, simple shop, literally conducting smog tests only.
I purchased a groupon for $ 35. Additional $ 8.25 for the certificate. Not bad at all.
