Drive Line Service Of San Leandro

Not happy with the service I got. I brought in a driveline to get new u-​joints installed (3) and re-​balance it. It took a week and on the day they said it would be ready, I called to let them know I was coming and I got a somewhat ‘surprised’ tone. When I got there it, it looked like it had just been painted as it was still a little sticky. Clearly it seems they forgot about it and rushed to get it done before I got there. The problem is it was completely painted including the rubber seals on the u-​joints and the grease fittings. Lame! Not a quality and prideful job and I can’t be confident they cleaned the surface rust off before painting it as I asked. I won’t install a part like that so I had to re-​do it. It cost me time and money.
They’ve got a very industrial shop with lots of large drivelines everywhere and seem to do a lot of work for their wholesale customers and other shops. As for us lowly retail customers, we are clearly not a priority. A shame because I do a lot of car repair and restoration and would have given them much more business not to mention recommendations.

Have been using these guys since the 80’s. Yes, the 1980’s. They were at a different location back then. Their shop is not flashy or slick, they focus on quality work. They are driveline guys that know their stuff and don’t try to make all their money on one sale. As long as they stay in business, I will be going to them. Great group and great work. I have been recommending them for decades, thought I’d Unilocal them as well. Currently have my CJ front driveshaft with them.

Excellent! First of all, their hours are 7:30 to 5:30, so they’re still open when you need to get in before or after work. Went back to them having used them 20+ years ago. Same great service. Had a brand new yoke for my old Dodge driveline. New U joints and a rebalance and it’s as good as new. One day. Highly recommend.

First impressions mean a lot to me, and both interactions I had with Richard Moore today were positive ones. I found myself in a pinch to get my drive shaft rebuilt and back by Friday, and this is the first shop that was able to 1) actually do the job in-​house without sending it out, and 2) claim to have it back to me within 24 – 48 hours. Richard was very helpful on the phone in answering all of my questions and was able to articulate the «why» in a couple of my questions. This definitely gave him some credibility.
When I arrived, the place was a little difficult to find due to it being in the back of a small industrial/​business complex, but it was conveniently close to the freeway and didn’t take a lot of effort. I definitely got the impression that the place has been around for a while and there was a pretty large stock of U-​Joints and couplers on the shelves, also indicating a fairly decent volume of business. Richard greeted me at the front counter and was just as personable and helpful as he was on the phone.
Being that this is an in-​progress review, I’ll be reporting back in a day or so with the results of the transaction. Everything is looking good so far!

I got a call from Richard around lunch time today to let me know that my drive shaft was ready. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a top notch shop. Less than 24 hours from the time I dropped it off and have it back in my hands… that’s extremely impressive when everyone else is sending these parts out and minimum 3 – 4 day turn around.
Had a few more questions for Richard, and he was just as thorough and helpful as he was yesterday. The price was on-​par with what everyone else was quoting me, but the time saved and customer service was totally worth the 30+ mile drive. Not only will I be using this shop in the future, but I’ll certainly be recommending them to my friends and fellow enthusiasts.

Great service, my dad has had his on for 25 years and no problem, picking up my new drive shafts today price exactly what was quoted at the best price around. would use them again and again.

I did a manual transmission swap in my BMW (which never came with a manual transmission). As such, I needed a custom driveshaft (it needed to be shortened). I called these guys up about it and the guy said it would be no problem. I ended up dropping it off around 4pm and I heard back from them around 10am the next day! Very quick and professional. The guy said he works on these BMW driveshafts all of the time which have u-​joints which aren’t supposed to be serviced.
Total cost was very fair, pretty typical for this kind of work.
when I came home with the shaft I realized I fucked up one of my measurements so I had to take it back… oops! Cost to elongate it (something like ¾ inch) was very fair too, and quick turnaround. Real nice guys.
