Tip Top Tapas offers traditional Spanish food using old-​style recipes passed down through generations and perfected with time.

Using the best ingredients available, we offer a variety of tapas, paellas and desserts custom-​ordered to fit your needs. We cater to a variety of events and strive to create an atmosphere that is perfect for you and your guests.

Our motivation is simple. This is our passion.

History

Established in 2009.

Tip Top Tapas started when two Spanyards who love cooking met at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by a common friend. I cooked half of the food displayed at the party. But I wondered who had brought the other half of delicious spanish tapas at the table? My now partner Candido gave me the answer! So we talked for a while about the lack of options for great, home tasting Spanish food. And then we thought; let’s show the San Francisco Bay Area how real Spanish Food tastes! we are going to start a Tapas & paellas company to cater events with yummy food prepared on-​site! It had to be casual, stepping out of the whole overpriced catering concept, let’s focus on the food: everything from scratch. But most important: It has to be FUN! After testing several months at friends events we started getting requests from friends of friends, then the word started spreading and at one point we knew we had made it: We were no longer the «Tapas Guys », we where the «Tip Top Tapas» !

Business Owner

Growing up in Spain was quite an experience for both of us. It’s a country of strong traditions, living history, and timeless beauty. Spain is also a place where food and wine are national obsessions, and we couldn’t agree more.

Being raised in different regions in Spain allowed us to bring a unique perspective to

our food.

We started Tip Top Tapas to carry on our family and country traditions– our grandma’s croquetas, mom’s homemade Flan, or mouthwatering Bocadillos de Tortilla Española when cheering for favorite our soccer team.

Years after starting our company and doing hundreds of events, we are still excited as if it were «day 1.» We love the feeling of leaving an event knowing that we made our client’s day even more special. That’s what drives us.

Impressive from the very start. Candido returned every email a timely fashion, and was patient with us as we tried to figure out the menu on our end. We had a birthday party for 40 people, they helped make it easy and fun, we could relax. He’s a professional, he and his staff are warm and friendly, set up and clean up went without a hitch. They also made some spontaneous shrimp appetizers that were a hit!
We loved the food just as much as the service. The seafood and meat paella were frickin’ amazing. Some of our friends at the party are chefs and they said it was the best paella they have ever had. I don’t doubt it.
We will hire them again. Thank you Candido, Raul, Katherine and Alex for a great evening.

Raul catered my showroom party of 75 people and everyone raved about the food. He set everything up beautifully, his staff was great, and he made it such a special event. He was amazing to work with and they cleaned up afterwards, and he was so accommodating with last minute requests. I highly recommend Raul for any type of event!

From start to finish Tip Top Tapas did a superb job catering my mom’s birthday party (40 people). Candido and Raul were quick and responsive to emails, very helpful with menu selection, and arrived exactly on time. Raul and his staff were efficient, friendly, and helpful all through the party. The tapas selections were excellent, beautifully presented, and never ran out. The star of the party though was the gigantic outdoor paella pan where Raul cooked up a delicious seafood paella. Very impressive just to watch it being made, let alone how good it was to eat. Desserts (flan and cheesecake) also were excellent and better than I have experienced in most restaurants. And at the end of the party Raul and his staff cleaned the entire kitchen spic and span — seriously, it was cleaner after they left than before they arrived. Highly recommended!

We were not disappointed. We had Tip Top Tapas cater a graduation party for our daughter in Alameda County. She just graduated last week from UC Irvine and had also spent some time in Spain in a study abroad program. Raul prepared seafood paella for 60 of the guests and some tasty tapas. Raul and his crew were on time, professionally dressed, and service oriented. They even did a nice job cleaning up before they departed. If you are looking for something special and little different, have Raul and Tip Top Tapas cater your event. You will not be disappointed. All of our guests couldn’t stop talking about how tasty and fresh everything was. All of the guests enjoyed seeing the paella being prepared and cooked in front of them. The smell was amazing. It really makes the Tip Top Tapas experience special!

My partner secured Tip Top Tapas for my 50th Birthday Party. WOW!
We had originally planned on hosting the celebration at a local restaurant — but frankly, it was much more difficult than either of us imagined — so we scrapped that idea and began to search for a catering company.
LUCKY US! We found Tip Top Tapas!
The food was AMAZING. The service TOP-​NOTCH. The Staff FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL and very easy to work with.
I have to say, they added a level of «class» to the event with their beautifully prepared tapas and paella — truly FIRST CLASS!
Do yourself a favor and check them out for your next event. You’ll be glad you did.

Outstanding food, outstanding service. They traveled to Pleasanton for my husband’s 40th birthday party and arrived early to set up in the early morning and then the whole crew arrived on time to set up 2 hours before showtime. It was a pleasure to work with them and we hope to do so again (if they don’t get too busy!). Many guests commented that the food was not only the best party food they had eaten but was the best food they ever had! Wow! Authentic Spanish cuisine, no substitutions, no cutting corners. The Sangria (provided free of charge) was also delicious and they also comped us free flan!

First time trying Spanish Food at a friend baby shower, and it was superb. The introduction of Paella by Tip Top Tapas was amazing. Addictively, it was delicious. I like how the food was cooked and prepared by folks from its country of origin, Spain. You don’t see alot of that around here. I tip my hat to Tip Top Tapas… Keep Calm, Order Tip Top Tapas.

I was very lucky to have TIP TOP TAPAS catering for my BABY SHOWER !!!
My baby shower went VERY WELL all because onsite cooking seafood paella .
Raul and Candido were very friendly to explain to each guest how to cook real traditional Spanish food !! I also love their Tapas .
I am glad that I have TIP TOP TAPS for my baby shower. After the baby-​shower, I saw all my friends who went to the party were posting their seafood paella pictures on the facebook and they all said they had a great and experience with real seafood paella from Spain.
On the event site, Tip Top Tapas also did a great job to make my party looks so pretty with their Spanish decoration and beautiful plats on each tapas table .

On 12÷14÷14, I had a chance to try Raul’s signature paella rise dish. It was seafood paella with shrimps, fish steaks, clams, mussels, squids. All the ingrediants were fresh and excellent. The seafood broth was excellent and made fresh. It was not out of a can ot gallon jug. The party was for my friend couple’s baby shower who are very close friends with Raul and his chefs associates. And a lot of other tapas dishes were part of the party. Prosciutto and catalope, sauteed chicken cubes, spanish cheese croquets and a couple of other tapas that I didnt even remember. It was an excellent party and Raul knows how to fill all the guests stomach. No doubt. If I were to hire someone for my party. I would call Raul right away. My theory is I never trust a skinny chef. Thanks a million Raul.

I can’t thank Raul and Candido enough for making my wedding a HUGE success. We had 100 people at our home and the food and atmosphere created by these guys was just awesome. My guests were served the most delicious, freshly made tapas (prepared in my kitchen!). His staff was delightful and really made sure that everyone was being served the entire night. And the best and most beautiful part of the evening was watching them make paella in our backyard. It was amazing. And fabulous. Raul was the person I stayed in touch with choosing the menu and planning the entire evening. He was fantastic to work with, had excellent recommendations regarding hiring other people I needed for the event, and put me entirely at ease – which is no small feat when you’re planning a wedding. I was completely relaxed knowing he was in charge. The cost was reasonable. And everyone is still raving about the food. We were so happy. Thank you Tip Top.

You should hire Tip Top Tapas for your next party or special occasion. Here’s why: These guys are passionate about what they do and it shows! Raul & Candido are both from different parts of Spain (Madrid & Leon, respectively) The authenticity of the food shines through from the first exquisite bite to the lingering flavors. They set up the tables and plates of food creatively and festively. All my guests raved about how delicious it all was. They said they could smell a wonderful aroma ½ block away as they were coming over.
The whole experience was top-​notch. From the planning of the menu (all of their suggestions are good if you aren’t sure), the professionalism in which they came into our kitchen, set up and transformed our dining room into a fun tapas buffet, to the extraordinary experience of cooking a giant vat of paella in front of and to the delight of our guests. It was a feast for all the senses. I could go on and on. These guys are the real deal. It took me back to the late 80’s when I was an abroad student in Madrid. It has sparked my desire to go back to visit. It was my 50th birthday and my husband found them based on my desire to have a great party where I wouldn’t have to lift a finger, and my love for Spain, and to have great fun!
Their were so many dishes, but really, all excellent. The paella de los mariscos and the flan were dynamite. (It think using a recipe of one of the caterer’s abuela).

Raul & his team just catered for my husband’s 50th, they were awesome, everybody enjoyed the food.
What really impressed me was the professionalism in helping plan the menu & the quick replies. He changed the menu around a bit to suit the dietary needs for us & came up with really great suggestions to make the menu fun & interesting. The sangria they served was excellent .
The food was amazing, especially the paella. Good job guys. Sure to have u guys cater another party for me.

Tip Top Tapas did an excellent job at my husband’s 40th birthday party in SF! Raul was a pleasure to work with throughout the whole process. The food was scrumptious and very authentic. They were even able to accommodate some vegan items without difficulty for a couple of our vegan friends at the party. Also the presentation was lovely which they served the tapas and paella on.
The day of the event, we had about 60 friends and family and everyone commented on how great the food was. Also Raul and one of his servers were there, which helped everything go smoothly. They even helped with cutting our large fancy and tricky to cut cake! We were very happy with our experience with Tip Top Tapas! We would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Raul and team for helping to make my husband’s 40th birthday party so special!

Tip Top Tapas catered our wedding reception last month. During the party our guests kept walking up to us overwhelmed by how amazing the food was. A ton of people warned me that it’s hard to eat at your own wedding, but I couldn’t stop myself! (I actually walked away from conversations to make sure I got seconds.) I have a lot of experience with Spanish food. I have lived in Spain and also tried a ton of Spanish restaurants in the Bay Area. Tip Top Tapas are by far the most authentic and soulful.
Our correspondence with Raul and Candido was always smooth and timely. They are extremely sweet and friendly. They were very careful to make sure we had what we wanted at our reception. They care about their customers and about making good food. Their staff were also great, very friendly and attentive to our guests.
I was 110% satisfied with Tip Tip Tapas and have already recommended them to friends.

Delicious paella!!!
I went to the SOMA Streat Food Park last weekend and found the most delicious paella.
I had the seafood one and it was very tasty and fresh. People were very nice and they even warmed up my plate so it was perfect! Flan was also great.

Tip Top Tapas did a marvelous job catering for my client’s private dinner party at this past weekend. Everyone that I worked with was a pro!
Raul got back to me right away, wrote up a menu and proposal really quickly — we only had 2 weeks to plan this event and he made it so easy and a smooth process!
I could tell everything was made with fresh ingredients and a lot of thought had gone into creating the menu. The next time I’m in need of a caterer Tip Top Tapas will be at the top of my list for sure!

The planets aligned and I found Tip Top Tapas to cater my husband’s 50th birthday party. I got really lucky and stumbled on Tip Top Tapas on Unilocal.My husband is Spanish and thought tapas and paella would be perfect!
The problem was it was a week before the party when i emailed Raul. I figured they were booked already but knew they were perfect, so I tried. Raul replied back instantly and said that they were scheduled not to work that Saturday because he was moving on the Sunday and needed to pack. But after reading my email he agreed to cater our party! I couldn’t believe it.
They took over the kitchen and finished cooking most food on site. The paella was cooked in our backyard and was the true star of the party. They were so fun, and friendly and really added a level of fun to the party I have not experienced before! I can not say how much I loved having them caterer our party and I can’t wait for our next event, to have them back.
What I LOVEd about Raul and Tip Top Tapas:
Ease of planning. I did nothing. Seriously, nothing… they brought food, plates, utensils, sangria, tablecloth, everything.
I let Raul make a menu based on my budget and how many people were coming and he did all the work. I was stressed about our headcount, as it kept growing, he assured me there would be enough food and their was even though we had 60 people come though and only planned on 50. :)
They were so awesome and friendly and self sufficient. A guest commented how they just did their thing and never asked me where things were etc.
Raul worked within our budget, which was not that big, and came up with a fantastic menu. Loved everything. The paella was to die for! And the sangria, delicious! They were so affordable.
They stayed late and worked their butts off and had smiles on their faces the whole time. They were laid back and professional, all at the same time.
I can not say enough good things about them and would highly recommend them if you want amazing Spanish food and super fun experience for your guests!
