New Step

Brick-​and-​mortar store is closed! No longer exists! Not there! Closed! Closed! Closed.

Got a hoodie from them about 7 years ago and I still sport it. Moved to NYC then to Seattle and it came with me.
Time to re up on some new gear.

Very shady experience. Even during «open hours», the owner is never there and the travel agent who shares the space cannot contact him. It seems to stress her out when people walk in to buy his clothes and not inquire about her services. She is very sweet and often will sell you a shirt if you have cash but rarely sees the owner. The phone number provided doesn’t help either.

This store has awful customer service and they NEVER have products in a range of sizes. I have called multiple times – on different days and times during the day – and they have never ONCE answered. But even more frustrating is that I have been trying to get a shirt as a present for someone for almost 2 MONTHS now. I stop in the store on a weekly basis and they always tell me «Next week we’ll have it! Come back next week!» Apparent ‘next week’ means never, because they still don’t have it! Looks like I’ll be making my own shirt at this point!
Only open 5 – 6 hours a day, ignoring phone calls and constantly out of stock… How this store is still in business is beyond me!

Great shirts at reasonable prices. They were very helpful in picking out shirt sizes for my niece and nephew and I even bought a few for myself.

This is the place to get all of those neighborhood logo clothing. Very good selection of neighborhood logo t-​shirts and sweatshirts in men’s women’s and children’s sizes and uses the old San Francisco Warriors («the City») logo as their basis. They also have gear with streetcar lines on them (N-​Judah, for example) just like the ones you see in New York City.
I got myself a Sunset hoodie last month and this is one of my favorite sweatshirts. Love the feel of the sweatshirt material that they use. MIght be nice if they started making hoodies with streetcar lines on them. I’d like to have a 38-​Geary, N-​Judah, or 30-​Stockton sweatshirt.
Their merchandise is pretty cool and people always stop to ask me where I got my sweatshirt. Good to support a local business such as this one and show a little city pride in the meantime.

Been here a couple of times. Got a couple of shirts from here.
They got lots of SF type of T’s like the shirts with the bus lines and the «The Sunset’ and «The Richmond» shirts with the old Warriors logo. Pretty cool stuff. I think its like $ 20 a shirt or 2 for $ 35. Thats the going rate for these shirts anyways.
But this store doesnt live up to its name «New Step» theirs nothing stepping about it. They got about 10 pairs of shoes and thats it. I think its time for a store name update.

Basically, the design of the bridge (besides being the Golden State Warriors logo) is also the design for the police officer union and the store owner has the copyright rights to it.
He got the idea of the shirts for the bus lines, etc… from the NY metro/​bus line shirts that exist and thought it would be a good idea.
I came looking for a Sunset hoodie and took advantage of the discount ²⁄₄₅? I can’t remember — but I was originally going to get one for me and one for my brother. Turns out my brother didn’t want one so I kept both, but I got a second one for the Richmond district (I grew up in the Richmond district but moved to the Sunset/​went to school in the Sunset for the other half of my childhood — torn)…they didn’t have the color I wanted for my Sunset hoodie so the guy made me a custom order Richmond sweatshirt for the exact color I wanted!
I will definitely come back for all my SF sweatshirt wants/​needs. Very reasonable — I think you get a 10 or 15% off discount for being a student?

I went here today and got a SUNSET shirt a N JUDAH beanie for my mom for Mother’s Day. Awesome shirts, and helpful staff. Mother’s Day shopping done! 5 stars, check them out.

I was hoping this place was going to have exactly what I wanted… actually it was from the outside looking in.
The T-​shirt I wanted was staring at me, but I couldn’t get to it.
Why? You ask…
The sign says and so does Unilocal that it opens at 10am. But I waited until 10:35 and still no one showed up to let me get that t-​shirt!
I live in Chicago and have to catch a flight back today, only thing my fiancé asked for was a specific t-​shirt, but he can’t have it :(
I am super bummed… if you don’t open at 10am, then change the sign and change it on Unilocal

Um, I don’t understand the high reviews. I went here expecting a good selection of shoes but they only have about 10 different pairs. The store is mostly dedicated to clothing. If that is their business model, more power to them, but they should change their name to reflect that.

this is always my spot to come if my i want a Muni shirt or SF neighborhood shirt for myself or as a gift. got myself the K Ingleside and The Richmond neighborhood t shirt (the 2 neighborhoods i’ve repped my whole life). got a K Ingleside t shirt for my nephew now that he reps the neighborhood also. was looking for a 29 Sunset t shirt last time but they didnt have the size i was lookin for

I’m appallingly bad at Holiday shopping.
And it’s not because I don’t know what to get people. It’s just that sales and cool stuff — bring out the selfish side in me — and even though I plan on buying great gifts for loved ones — I just end up buying a ton great stuff, which I don’t really need — all for me.
This selfish streak was particularly bad this past Holiday season. I woke up right before the day before my flight out to Pittsburgh and realized I needed presents stat. I took a last moment rainy day cab excursion to New Step to pick out some wonderful San Francisco sweater souvenirs.
New Step is one of my new favorite stores for present buying. They have all sorts of San Francisco hoodies, hats, and shirts — representing many of the San Francisco neighborhoods. Everything from the Richmond, to the Sunset, to the Mission, etc. They also have a great assortment of N Judah, K, and L gear as well.
My favorite aspect of this store is that the prices are pretty reasonable, the store is locally owned and never busy — and the merchandise is quality.
I bought a green and yellow Sunset hoodie for my brother’s girlfriend — and a navy blue Sunset hoodie and bright blue Sunset hat for my brother. The woman who rang up my purchases was so quick — that I managed to even catch my same cab.
My brother loved his Sunset hoodie — and remarked on how comfortable the fleece was inside.
And wouldn’t you know it: on a cold night, right before Christmas, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to put my brother’s girlfriend’s hoodie on to stay warm. I figured I could always gift wrap it for her when I was done with it, to give to her.
Yeah…so much for gift-​wrapping…
I wore that hoodie my whole stay in Pittsburgh, on the flight home, and for two days afterwards.
That damn selfish present streak.
I must say though, that it’s one of the most comfortable items of clothing that I own.

I took the N Judah over here on Monday after work especially to buy «The Richmond» tee to give my brother for his birthday. He doesn’t live here anymore and I don’t want him to forget where he came from! They had lots of different color choices but I chose the black tee with orange lettering. Not only does it say «The Richmond» on it, but it’s the colors for the SF Giants. It was completely empty in there with just the two woman working behind the register. But they were super friendly. They told me which side was men’s and which side was women’s and extremely helpful answering questions. Plus, on the receipt, it says 10% off your next regular item purchase. Maybe I can go back and get a tee for me! One question though, why are the men’s tees cheaper than the women’s? Women’s tees are just so much smaller and use less material, don’t they?

I managed to sneak my ass over here after work one day to buy «The Richmond» tee as an xmas gift for the fiancé as a way to spread his new love to rep’ his new ‘hood.
If you buy three you can get all of them for about $ 36 – I think. If you buy one they’re about $ 16. They sell the three neighborhoods with «the» in front of them as mentioned in Jeff M’s review. They also have them in kids sizes and color palettes that match most bay area sports teams.
I bet they are pretty tired of people asking if they sell stuff with «The City» as its official Warriors gear, which they don’t carry.
Ohh and if you are looking for the shop there’s an orange sign labeled «The Sunset» at least thats how I found it.

Okay, I realize the irony of purchasing a shirt with «The Richmond» emblazoned across the front at a store on Irving Street, but unless you’re into track suits, the Richmond doesn’t have a whole hell of a lot as far as clothing stores.
This is the place for those old Warriors-​style (
) neighborhood shirts. The have Sunset, Richmond, and Mission gear there, in t-​shirt and hoodie form (might have been some babydolls there as well). The shirts are like $ 20 each or two for $ 35. And, well, that’s about it. It’s not a lot (it is also a shoe store) but hey, those shirts are badass.

It’s a little store, but they had what I was looking for: a brown Muni N-​Judah hoodie. It cost $ 40. I bought it.

Hello. New Step is the best place in SF to buy «neighborhood» t shirts — with names of neighborhoods, munilines, etcetera.
They also carry sneakers and hoodies.
I have a black zipup one with Sun set on it. Two doors down from Starbucks on the corner of Irving and 19^th.
