Any review higher than three stars for this joint is kinda confusing. It’s a fine hotel. As in if you need somewhere to sleep in San Francisco it’ll do. But beyond that, it’s nothing special.
The bathroom comes without counter space. The vanity is lower than hip height and I’m 5′ 2″. I’m hoping this was just an oversight, but we only had one bar of soap. So there was that awkward moment when you’re in the shower and you reach for soap but there isn’t any, so you have to choose whether to use shampoo for your nether bits or get water all over the floor when you get out of the shower and make for the bar by the sink.
There is no fridge or minibar, and for $ 275/​night (not including the $ 50/​night for parking) I feel like maybe giving me the opportunity to buy overpriced tiny liquor bottles in my own room oughta come standard. There isn’t room service. After 4PM you can get Morton’s next door to do in-​room delivery, but other than that, you’re on your own, my friend. Oh, and A/​C? Yeah, that’s not a thing here.
However if you’re into beds that swallow you up and walking distance to the Cheesecake Factory – both of which are my jam – this joint won’t disappoint.

Booked a short stay here through Expedia’s flight + hotel deal.
Located close to the BART the hotel is easily accessible to and from the airport. There are also lots of bus stops close by and the city is really walkable from the hotels location.
The check in was friendly and painless. The room was a good size, clean, and had everything I needed.
Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed at this hotel the room is a little small. Customer service is not so great. I called customer service several times and they always put me on hold or hang up on me and no hot water for a few hours. Oh btw there’s no a/​c and tub.

Great, great location. We were able to walk everywhere except to get to Lands End. It’s got it’s quirks like the bathroom vanities that go up just past the knee, but if you don’t mind the older style building mixed with super comfy beds and friendly staff, this is a great spot with cool history. No fuss at all.
There is no AC, we stayed in Spring so that was no issue, just opening the window and turning on the ceiling fan was perfect.
Parking was a little pricey with the hotel $ 45 a day, we found another private valet just around the block for $ 27 and it was super convenient.
The overall price for the king room was only $ 250 with tax and I felt that was a fair price.
I have stayed in the Marriott Marquis and other hotels and this was much more comfortable!

This place is an unexpected surprise. The front desk attendant Bryan was super nice and even upgraded our room to one with a view because it was my husbands birthday. Mario was the first face of The Kensington and it’s a good thing! He’s very polite and even gave us front door service from taking our bags, to giving us a mini tour of the location as we headed to our room. The hotel is beautiful and clean and has a lot of history. I will definitely stay here again when in the city and will recommend the Kensington to all of my friends. My stay was money well spent!

Great hotel that’s smack dab in the center of everything. No it’s not the Four Seasons but it’s a quaint hotel in a historical building and really, who really needs the amenities of a 5-​star hotel unless you plan on staying indoors the entire time?! Here’s my breakdown…
Pros:
— location is in the heart of the city; you can walk to anywhere from the hotel. Not only are there restaurants galore all around, you have banks, Walgreens, gyms, the mall, and even all the touristy destinations (Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, etc.)
— clean rooms, very comfy beds
— friendly staff
— room service via Morton’s Steakhouse!
— complimentary afternoon tea & sherry, if you’re into that
Cons:
— the building IS old, so I guess the plumbing is, too. I didn’t have issues with water temperatures, just the pressure was inconsistent
— no A/​C, but we didn’t need it. It was an unusually warm wknd while we were visiting, too but the ceiling fan and opening the window was sufficient
— speaking of opened windows, you ARE in downtown SF so if you hear crackheads yelling all night or bagpipes playing from the local pub… well, welcome to Union Square!
— vending machine was severely lacking… it’s on the 9th floor and it doesn’t sell water. Oh, and it was pretty much out of everything when I tried to get a Powerade
Now, don’t let the list of cons deter you. None of it really bothered me at all. But I know it can be deal-​breakers for some super fickle people.
For the rate we paid ($ 200/​night), that was pretty flipping awesome for the location we were in. I highly recommend Kensington Park Hotel and would come back in a heartbeat.

A good mix of old and new style, a little bit a of «American Horror stoey» feel but a goid way. The staff is friendly and accommodating, perfect location for shopping and bar hopping on central union square. Our room had an amzing view looking out to nobb hill. I highly recommend staying here for the price and location. I would give this place a five stars but the shower/​tub needs a makeover, the rest of the bathroom was updated just the old tiny shower which was weird, i guess they forgot that part. Overall great experience i would stay here again even with the shower/​tub situation, awsome location and great service!

My husband and I stayed here for a few days while visiting San Francisco. Although the hotel is beautiful and historic there is some basic things that are missing. Specifically there is no air-​conditioning. Also, The fee for parking is astronomical over $ 50 per night. This hotel looks to hit you with a fee wherever I can such as an early check in fee of $ 25.
Instruction was being done early in the morning hours while we were trying to sleep without notice.
Also there is a elk club and they basically take over the hotel and have multiple floors just for themselves.
Hotel is in a nice location by union square. The gas telefax pretty snooty as well as some of the workers. Although every maintenance or housekeeping worker we encountered was an absolute pleasure.
Lastly, there are very comfortable beds which saved this hotel from the 2 stars it may deserve.

So I planned a surprise trip to San Francisco for my boyfriend so that he can see his favorite team play (yuck I’m a Dodger fan) lol…
Anyways I chose the Kensington Park hotel based off some of the reviews and the proximity to the transit systems…
Check in:
So we arrived around noon and went in to check in and the gentlemen putting somethings away behind the counter but assured me he would be right with me, which he was. He was very friendly and began pulling up my reservation. He saw that we were celebrating our anniversary and that a high floor was preferred. He told me he had a royal suite on the 12th floor (highest floor) however it was a queen, not a king. I said I didn’t mind! :) check in was quick and Joshua was extremely helpful. We valeted our car $ 45 dollars (came to $ 51 with taxes) and headed up to the room. I wasn’t expecting that because usually check in isn’t until 3 pm so if you arrive early they give you some bs that the room isn’t ready. So this was a big plus in my book.
The Room:
The room was nice. Big for San Francisco. Everything was very clean. The view was even better…
My only complaint was the lack of water pressure in the room and the bed… I like a bed in the middle, not to soft not to hard. What they tried to do was cover up a hard mattress with an egg crate… :(probably the worst night of sleep I’ve had in a while. My back and neck were very sore the next morning.
So if the bed was better I probably would have given this hotel five stars!

The hotel is at very convenient location, just few meters from Union Square, Macys, and many expensive shops. There are many restaurants around, coffee shops and just two blocks from BART and Market Street. There is no pool or gym, the rooms are small. I think the Hotel needs some renovation.

THE KENSINGTON PARK HOTEL IS THE WORST!
To start, I booked a room at the Kensington Park Hotel through Expedia late at night (11:30 PM) while my friend and I were driving up the coast of California on our way to SF from L.A.
The two of us arrived at the Kensington and were greeted by a rude concierge who denied us a room and told us that checkins stopped at midnight.
Both my friend and I were shocked. It was about 2:30 AM and we had nowhere to stay. I tried to walk in and show my itinerary details for a second time. Again, I was refused service for no reason. The concierge wouldn’t even look at my reservation details.
I tried calling Expedia and the Kensington Park Park Hotel management. The manager of the Hotel told me that she had no time to deal with my situation and accused me of lying about being refused service.
Overall, my experience with this hotel has been terrible. They have no appreciation for customer service or welcoming accommodations. I did not receive a refund for the room I paid for and I didn’t even sleep at the hotel! I will not be returning and I strongly advise everyone else to stay away from this hotel also.

Best sleep I have ever had! Bar none.
The bellhop and concierge greeted me with the warmest welcoming. I felt royal and humble the entire experience.
The bed sheets, blankets, and pillows were the best part of the stay.
This hotel has great character, and good vibes.

Stay away from this hotel! They charged me $ 750 for a window that broke as soon as I tried to open it — clearly, it was already damaged, as I did not apply any excess force or abuse it in any way. It just broke. As soon as it happened I contacted the front desk because I thought it would be the right thing to do. Instead of receiving customer service I was treated as a liar and looked down on by the hotel staff. Then summarily charged this ridiculous fee. I would never return and urge all who read this to heed my warning. This institution has no respect for its guests.

We really enjoyed this hotel. The staff, especially Brian who helped me over the phone, and Velichka (Vicki) who helped in person at the front desk, were very kind and accommodating. This was our first time staying there, but we immediately felt at ease. Our room was on the 11th floor with a nice city view. The king bed room and bath, while not spacious, were plenty big enough and very nicely decorated — elegant but comfy. We enjoy older hotels and their interesting architectural details. And as many others have said, the location can’t be beat! Less than a block off Union Square. I will definitely stay there again.

Absolutely a hidden gem in Union Square. Classic old world San Francisco feel. Every time I am here I am impressed by the staff and attention that the manager Dimitar exhibits. Location is perfect, complimentary tea & sherry in lobby is a nice touch, as is the pianist/​guitarist in the lobby Fridays. Rooms are clean and well appointed, comfortable beds, smallish rooms, but that is expected in downtown hotels. But the price is way less than any of the other hotels in the area, and I only sleep in the room, since there is so much to see and do in SF. Concierge is helpful as to what to see and do, and does it with a dry sense of humor. Will be back again in July :)

First off the Valet… $ 45 for oversized cars plus there’s a tax for valet… Came up to be about $ 55 plus tip for valet. There are in and out’s but the wait for your car is about 30 – 40 minutes. Also be aware of why you leave in the car… The valet took almost $ 5 worth of change out of my car which was not cool… But if you really needed the change then I guess you really needed it…
When I first checked into my room, it wasn’t even cleaned… Went down to the lobby to complain about it and they upgraded me… I don’t really know what they upgraded TBH, but it was a nice gesture which warranted the 4 star review… Other than that, it was an ok stay. Can’t really complain too much other then the sink being really low and the lack of AC in the room.

We stayed here last weekend for last minute shopping. The hotel is centrally located, close to Union Square, shopping and restaurants. The one and only downsize was the elevator. This hotel has eight floors and the two elevators were as slow as molasses!

Recently stayed at this charming hotel in Union Square! Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was clean and well appointed. Only criticism would be the hallway seemed too bright for the ambiance. Hope to recommend to friends looking for an affordable intimate getaway!

Das Kensington Park Hotel befindet sich unmittelbarer Nähe zum Union Square und ist somit in super zentraler Lage, um die Stadt zu erkunden oder shoppen zu gehen.
Der Charme des Hotels macht das Alter aus. Man bewegt sich in einer andere Epoche und das sieht man auf allen Stockwerken und im Eingangsbereich.
Das heisst aber nicht, dass das Hotel renovierungsbedürftig ist. Alles ist gepflegt.
Die Zimmer haben zu den alten Stilelementen auch neue bekommen, die vielleicht nicht immer ganz zu einander passen, aber über Geschmack kann man sich ja streiten. :-)
Ich hatte ein Zimmer im 9. Stock und zwar nach hinten raus. Somit war es erstens ruhig und zweitens schien keine direkte Sonne rein, so dass es sich nicht aufheizen konnte.
Laut Beschreibung des Hotels auf
, verfügt das Hotel nämlich über eine Klimaanlage. Verschwiegen wurde leider, das diese nur in der Halle vorhanden ist und nicht auf den Zimmern.
An warmen Tagen kann es dann nämlich ziemlich unangenehm werden, gerade auch im Hinblick auf die Nacht, da sich das Fenster nur zirka 15 cm öffnen lässt. Ein Luftaustausch mit kühlerer Luft findet somit nur sehr schleppend statt.
Es gibt zwar einen Ventilator über dem Bett. Diesen kann man aber in der Nacht nicht laufen lassen, da man zu sehr im Zug liegt.
Aufgrund der rückwertigen Lage des Zimmers, war es aber auch Nachts relativ ruhig, so dass man das Fenster offen lassen konnte.
Das Boxspringbett war angenehm und man ging unter in Decken. Einfach traumhaft im Sommer. ;-)
Ansonsten war das Zimmer sauber und auch das Bad gepflegt. Dieses blinkte nur so von Messing und sah sehr gediegen aus.
Das Hotel verfügt über einen freien WLan-​Zugang auch in den Zimmern. Hier muss man sich einfach nur mit der Zimmernummer anmelden. Die Netzqualität war wirklich gut.
Insgesamt kann man das Hotel wirklich für einen Besuch in San Francisco empfehlen.

It’s a nice hotel, with a comfy bed. There is no air con, but the window opens. If you are on the street side be prepared for a lot of noise. For instance, construction noises that start at 2am and saxophone at night. I slept horribly at this hotel.

Decent hotel located in a great location just a few steps away from Union Square. The room was clean and comfortable, if only a tad small, and was a good deal for the price. The amenities were decent as well, sans for a wonky shower and a few stuck light switches. The employees were nice, helpful, and always polite! Overall, I would recommend this hotel!

Well, after reading the reviews, I was nervous to stay here. The hotel is just fine. Yes, it’s old. But in a cute old San Francisco kinda way. The rooms are good sized, the hotel is in a great location and the rooms are clean. Despite what the other reviewers said, the rooms have comfortable beds and lots of outlets for our modern day charging needs. The staff was friendly and I would certainly stay here again.

This was a really charming boutique hotel. What a good find! We stayed here for a bachelorette party, and everyone had a great time. It’s in a very convenient location, close to the Union Square area. We hung around Union Square for a bit while waiting for check-​in time. It was fairly close to all the places we chose for dinner, drinks, and clubbing.
Free tea and sherry in the lobby every afternoon, which we definitely were excited about.
The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Service was pleasant. Also competitively priced, considering the location.

They let us check in early, free of charge soon as we arrived. The room was up to date but view was directly into the window of another building. –_​– The door to the bathroom didn’t lock, but wasn’t a huge deal breaker for me as it was only me n my husband– they offered to send up maintenance because they had no other rooms available but i declined. Our room was clean, attendants we encountered were nice as can be, very courteous and professional, we were in the heart of Union Square & the bed was up there with the most comfortable beds I ever slept in. Despite little things that bugged me (like the tv being a little small, and picture not very clear) I would return for sure! Location Location Location!
Hotel valet was $ 45 a night– $ 50 for SUVs (like mine) I chose to park a couple blocks away at the Sutter-​Stockton garage I had used before, so glad I did. Flat rate of $ 36 per day. I got there on Saturday & left sunday— to my surprise the machine charged me Sunday rates— I paid $ 18 total for 22.5 hr stay! SCORE

It was great having a hotel room with windows that actually opened, so we could get fresh air. It was close to public transportation and walking distance from pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. Cute little hotel right in Union Square area. Booked through hotel tonight, first time using this app and was very satisfied. Great price and great location and also a decent hotel, Room is small, reminded me of some of the hotels we stayed at in Italy but it was clean and bed was comfy. I would definitely stay here again. Also they deliver from Mortons Steakhouse right next door!

My husband & I stayed at the Kensington Park Hotel and were very pleased. We were attending a wine event at Farallon (the fabulous restaurant in the same building) and also had dinner there, so the location was perfect! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were able to check-​in early, check-​out late, and leave our car the next day while we went to a play (we had to pay extra, but it was worth it). Our room was clean and comfortable at a reasonable (for SF) rate. Free Wi-​fi, coffee service in the morning on our floor, free newspaper at the front desk. Tea and sherry in the lobby in the afternoon. Very pleasant experience!

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Kensington. Fruit-​infused water greets guests in the morning as well as during the Happy Hour time. The staff worked incredibly hard to provide top notch service. The concierge provided excellent recommendations for dinner and sight-​seeing. When I checked out, I was offered a ride to the airport for a price cheaper than Über or a cab. The room was fine– comfortable bed and plenty of room for luggage. The bathroom was outdated but functional. The Kensington is in a part of town which is bustling– right in the heart of San Francisco, so nighttime noises do occur (saxophone player outside for quite a while, street cleaners, etc). I enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to all:)

Stayed in the Royal Suite since we were celebrating our anniversary early to coincide with Unilocal,thanks to the wonderful Unilocal committee for inviting us to partay with them.
Hotel staff are genuine and helpful. Shout outs to the reservation ladies. Location is by far the best you can do, without actually being in Union Square. Kind GM sent us alcohol, water and chocolate with a nice note.
As with other historic properties, you have to be ready for some things, however, the one thing we can’t do without is blackout drapes in the bedroom, which oddly they do have in the living room. Did I mention that is Odd? That and for whatever reason, our suite was uncomfortably hot, we left the windows open all day to cool it down, and made sure the heater was off to no avail.
After we returned from the Unilocal HQ tour, it was hot. We went out to dinner and returned, it was still hot. The staff offered a fan, and suggested sleeping with the windows open, but since the suite faces the street/​that wasn’t going to work. Sirens and yelling homeless are a fact of DTSF.
So, probably a different room might be better for us next time. «The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.» Is the coolest thing Mark Twain never said. Well, according to the internet that is. The concierge on the other hand, gave Samuel C full credit. Trust me, it was cool outside, even a bit cold with the wind, but maybe if you’re in need of a warm stay that will stay warm, the Royal Suite is for you!

There’s an era grace and charm with the Kensington Park Hotel. It might be due to the fact that it’s set in a gothic style building, walking in, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d stepped back in time.
The hotel combines historic and modern day very well. The modern artwork, stylish lobby, chandeliers on the ceiling work perfectly together to give the place a level of sophistication that is very rare is days.
Our room was of a good size (not the biggest of rooms but ok nonetheless) and the bathroom was in very good condition. The hotel itself is in a very convenient location, only a short walk from Market Street and the Powell Street cable car line.
It was great and worked well for us as we commuted everywhere and even took Bart from the airport.
The staff were very nice and the price wasn’t too bad either. I will definitely consider it next time I’m in town.

I was really lucky to get an online deal for ~$ 90 a night for a place in the city, and not only that — but in Union Square where you’re close to the mall and everything!
PROS:
1. Our room was pretty nice.
2. The bathroom was clean. The shower head had nice pressure.
3. Cable TV
4. Free WIFI. Pretty fast too.
5. COMFORTABLE beds! Fluffy and comfy pillows!
6. Free sherry & tea in the lobby everyday

CON:
1. Some of the wall outlets weren’t working.
2. (Depending on the person) Overnight parking $ 40/​night. Frankly, I had no problem with paying a little more for extra security since the other alternative would be that you would park your car at a street lot or parking garage. Be wary of that option since I saw a car get broken into somewhere in SF at night. I don’t mind the extra security on that. That’s just my opinion.
