Jack Trux Moving and Storage

As an interior designer, I use Jack Trux to receive and then deliver furniture for my clients. They are an exceptionally professional resource. On time, careful, and never impatient when you want to, maybe, keep seeing furniture in various arrangements. Recently, I had two issues on projects that would have been a real pain for me but Jack Trux handled them seamlessly.
The first: I purchased a very large sectional with a complicated design locally. When Jack Trux delivered it, they advised me that all of the legs for the sectional (12 or 14 I think) needed to be installed. Which meant, in my mind, that Jack Trux would deliver the sofa, but I would have to arrange for a separate installation of the legs. What a pain. No, the Jack Trux team got out their tools and installed the legs. Magic! It cost me in extra time but I would gladly pay for the time rather than have to bring in another installer.
The second: Recently we ordered multiple furniture pieces for a client and when they arrived at Jack Trux for receiving they noted multiple damage issues (from the delivery companies who brought the pieces TO Jack Trux). Jack Trux advised me of the damaged areas, and asked me how I wanted to proceed. I said of course we need to get the issues fixed. Jack Trux went about contacting their resources for repair and touch up, scheduled the work, advised me of the amounts, and worked directly with the manufacturers for additional repair resources. I had zero involvement except to approve the charges. Huge sigh of relief on my part. If the damaged pieces were delivered to my client, I would have to do all the follow up and repair scheduling. That’s a huge number of hours. Meanwhile, the client get’s disappointed looking at flawed furniture. Never good. Jack Trux really came through on this. This is VERY uncommon in the freight and delivery world.
Also, tip the delivery guys well and offer them water and the use of the bathroom. It is hard work.

I was receiving a delivery from a friend who had her items stored at Jack Trux. They gave me a 1.5 hour window, the morning of delivery, they narrowed the delivery time! How awesome is that? All the guys involved in the move were fantastic. Great attitudes, very helpful, polite and worked hard. This is a great vendor to streamline and consolidate deliveries. Carlos and Robert are a pleasure to work with and make it easy!

We used Jack Trux to move us from Lafayette to Napa. Though they were off a bit on their time estimate we were very happy with the move. The men were personal, polite and very easy to work with. They took good care with all our belongings and never complained when we asked them to do something. They even stopped at an extra drop off site. All in all great service. We would definitely use them again!

Once again, Jacktrux moved me for the third time. The staff was helpful and polite. This time I requested help with packing and everything made it to my new home sans damage. Thanks again for a seamless move Jacktrux!

This company was recommended to me by a friend for a recent move in which I didn’t want to do very much work.
The first thing I liked about them was that someone answered the phone every time I called. The second thing I liked was that their estimate for packing everything and moving was reasonable. Three guys came on moving day, around 9:00 am. They were finished with packing (including removing things from the walls), moving, and unloading by around 2 or 3 pm. A little longer than estimated – probably because the place I was moving from had the exit blocked with service trucks – but everything got done, and everything arrived in the same condition in which it left.
I used Jack Trux a second time, because they receive items from DWR shipping, check for damages, and then deliver to my home. They take plenty of time to find just the right placement of the furniture piece, for significantly less cost than would have been with DWR. (Including patient advice on placement, should one ask.)
And always a real person answering the phone.

I used Jack Trux for the second time. First time was 5 years ago from Noe Valley to Castro. This last month, moved from Castro to Twin Peaks. I can’t recommend these people highly enough! Both experiences were professional, efficient, friendly, and as stress free as moving can get! I was given a two hour window of when they would arrive. On the day of the move, they called two hours ahead to let me know they would be on the early side of the window (12 – 2) and they showed up exactly at 12. Despite my lack of preparation and disorganization (I HATE moving!) they were quick and friendly. They wrapped everything, loaded, traveled, and unpacked/​unwrapped everything with in three hours! I’ll never move myself again as long as Jack Trux has my back! Juan and Jessie were an awesome team! Thanks!

We used Jack Trux twice in the last few months for a two-​part move and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. I have to say that I was shocked to see some of the poor reviews here when I logged on to write this review because our experience with two separate crews and Ben in the front office was so great. Everyone we encountered was courteous, professional, and did an outstanding job — all for a price that was comparable to other companies we’ve dealt with. We’ve moved a number of times over the years and have had experiences with companies that ranged from the merely incompetent to the outright criminal and dealing with Jack Trux was a total breath of fresh air. Our things were packed and moved quickly and safely by people who really seemed to care about doing a good job.

Jack Trux moved my stuff in a professional and timely manner. Unfortunately, they did damage an armoire. I was pretty upset, thinking it was ruined, but they sent over a furniture repairman within a couple days and — I kid you not, the armoire looks better than it ever looked! I don’t know what miracles he performed, but it speaks volumes to me that they got it fixed, quickly and perfectly. I would definitely recommend them to a friend.

My wife and I used Jack Trux to move last weekend and had a really great experience with them.
Our movers (Craig and Jose) showed up right on time and got right to work. They were professional, friendly and hard working. All of our items showed up at the new house in one piece and I paid significantly less than the maximum estimate I received.
I will absolutely recommend this company to my friends and family.

I would give this company «no stars». This is unfortunate. I have used
Jack Trux over the years, and while David may be nice, the Company itself and their policies are unprofessional. Thomas and his crew moved our family, and we forgot to add «additional insurance» for art items. Thomas and his crew broke a sculpture, and not only did not take responsibility, they hid it behind the sofa, and left without mentioning the break. When I confronted David, he indicated that he was aware of the break, and the «bs» started from there. The sculpture was a cost of $ 4,000, a one of a kind, the reason a person hires Jack Trux, and they assumed no responsibility, other than to have fixed! Fixing a marble sculpture does not do it! In any event, the issue was not resolved, they are protected with their paperwork, and do not take a moral responsibility toward their clients. So client, BEWARE! Remember, to get the additional insurance for the move on an important piece of art, otherwise the payout is 60cents for one lb. which translated to $ 30.00. They do not handle with care!

I’ve used these guys twice now, and always had seamless experiences. Friendly, fast, straightforward, no surprises. Then this time around, I wanted to try something cheaper since it’s such a small move. It was a real hassle trying to find someone who would return my calls. In the end, I decided saving a few bucks was not worth dealing with folks who didn’t seem like they had everything under control the way they do at Jack Trux. I called the day before I wanted to move and just hoped that they could fit me in. And they could. I won’t be using anyone else in the future.

Jack Trux was great from start to finish. Ben and Dave made getting a timely estimate easy, and Bart took the lead on everything else. I needed a pack and move and Bart explained the details of how I’d be charged and pointing out ways for me to keep the costs down. On the day of the move, I had a four man team including Bart. They arrived on time and never stopped working. Living in a four flight walk up for 20 years, I thought it would take forever (and cost a fortune) but the guys took good care of me. They were very careful with my crystal, pottery and furniture and managed to move a large one bedroom apartment without hitting any walls on the way up or down the stairs.
Once we got to my new home, they unpacked faster than I could keep up with telling where to put things in the new place. I just finished unpacking the last box and to my utter shock and delight, not one of my over 300 wine glasses, decanters etc. was even chipped!
Jack Trux has moved a friend of mine 3 times over the past 10 years and he had the same great experience. That’s why he recommended them to me. I think they’re great and will use them again the next time I move.

We got several bids for our move. Jack Trux was the highest but frankly we knew they would probably be the best. From the initial telephone interview, emailing us an inventory sheet, answering numerous telephone & email questions, to the actual move itself — we could not have been happier. Ours was NOT an easy move. In fact, it was a difficult move. Long corridors, elevators and heavy furniture and boxes. Not a problem for these guys. The fellows who did the actual move were as friendly and accommodating as they come — and strong to boot! We know that in the long run, Jack Trux was a bargain. We’re not moving again for a long time but we can highly recommend this moving company.

I have moved 5 times in the past 8 years and have used Jack Trux for all of them. They are easy to work with; very good at accommodating your move schedule whenever possible; fairly priced; and competent.
Ben handled the scheduling of my most recent 3 moves. Working with him was a pleasure.
My latest move, just completed in the past few days, was relatively small. I only needed two people and a smallish truck; you can arrange for 3 or more people at an extra charge.
My move date changed a couple of times, finally settling on a Sunday. The office calls 2 days before your move date to confirm the arrival window. The movers arrived on time, at the early end of the window. In 4 out of 5 appointments they were able to start at my preferred time.
The movers are professional, relaxed and flexible. They handled my items carefully and nothing has ever broken or been misplaced. Granted, I spend a good deal of time organizing and packing so the actual move is straight forward and takes as little time as possible (more on hourly fees below).
I have not used their advance packing services, though they did wrap fragile pieces (such as large mirrors and TVs) during the actual moving. They bring all necessary supplies (pads, hand-​trucks, etc) as you would expect. A really nice service is the wardrobe boxes. They will bring and assemble those on the day of your move. You only need to put your hanging clothes, still on hangers, in the boxes. At your destination, you unload the boxes while they are moving in other items. They will take the empty boxes away when they leave. This service is included in the base price.
For a modest extra fee, they will take away and dispose of used mattresses.
As of today, the base price for a move is $ 115 an hour for two movers, with a 3-​hour minimum on weekdays, and a 4-​hour minimum on Sundays. I don’t know what the minimum is for Saturdays. Extra movers are available for an extra fee. Two movers seem to be sufficient for most jobs. Again, the move coordinators will guide you in making this decision.
In my experience, the success of a relocation is equally dependent on the moving company AND the person /​family being moved. Making unreasonable requests or being completely unprepared will almost always result in a poor experience, regardless of the quality of the movers. The move coordinators at Jack Trux will provide as much guidance and advice as needed to ensure a successful relocation. But you need to do your part too…
I recommend Jack Trux without reservation.

We also moved our project furniture (housing) that we storaged at Jack Trux to our office in the Peninsula. Their office was good at communicating cost and delivery time. They were quick and careful to load, unload and stack chairs, lamps, tables, sofas, etc. into 3 rooms. They protected and wrapped furniture from getting any type of damage. Athough somewhat expensive, they were worth the service they provided.

First of all, I didn’t use this company to move… I’d like to say I only had them give me a quote but, as I’ll explain, we never even got that far.
I called Jack Trux to get an estimate for my company. We are relocating and were looking into price comparisons from multiple movers. When I called I spoke to Ben who said he could send someone out to take inventory of our office to provide an estimate. The first red flag should have been clear when he told me they could only come out on Wednesday’s because that was the day they serviced our area. The fact that they couldn’t send someone out to do an estimate on a job that would surely be worth thousands irked me but I agreed to make myself available that Wednesday.
He then went on to explain that he would have to call that Tuesday to let me know the time they would arrive Wednesday. Fine. Tuesday came and I received a call that they could not come the following day after all and would have to reschedule for the following week. Okaaay. Again, he said he would call the day before to set a time.
The next week, same thing! Again they couldn’t make it that week for whatever reason. This went on week after week until he finally called and said they would be in that week and that *gasp!* we could actually lock that date in. When I asked what time it would be he said he couldn’t provide a firm time until — you guessed it – the day before. I let him know that I only had a one hour window available that day. He let me know there wasn’t going to be a way to give me a specific time, only a four hour window.
Seriously? Is this the cable company??? I’m pretty sure I was offering them business, not asking for a favor.
At this point he told me that he could «make a note» of my avaialable time and would see what he could do. Otherwise, it could be pushed out to the next week. He told me we weren’t moving for a month so there was plenty of time.
Once I hung up I realized how fed up I was and called back immediately to say, «We decided we’re just going to go ahead and cancel the estimate. With all this run-​around I think it’s best we go with another company.» What came next was not too much of a shock. He said, «Ok, bye.»
That was it. No apologies, no «let’s see what we can do», nada.
I think that pretty much sums up why I didn’t give this company more than one star. I would have given it zero if that were an option.

Not Recommended!
I used Jack Trux based on reviews here and my realtor. They exceeded the quote by 40%! And it was a Not to Exceed number. I used them to move my things out of my house and into storage until my new place was ready. So I had to two moves and storage.
First move: I arranged to have additional items insured including stereo equipment. For the coverage, they need to verify the working condition and condition of any items before they are packed and boxed. This also wasn’t communicated to me. It makes perfect sense but I had to unpack about 10 boxes so they could verify the condition. They would only insure the stereo equipment for physical damage to the boxes since they weren’t able to verify that the equipment was in working order before. This all makes sense to me but it would have been appropriate if these details were communicated to me before hand instead of during the move!
They gouged a wall, the hole was about 4″ in diameter. All the guy said was sorry!
Move in: Several pieces of furniture were dinged and scratched. I did a walk-​through at the end of my move to point out the damaged items. This took 30 mins. At the end of the move while they were totaling the hours and costs, they wanted to charge me for that 30 mins. I didn’t think that was right to charge me for the time to review their damage.
They didn’t want to take any responsibility for the damages. The leg to my computer desk was broken. I got them to agree to reduce the charges to compensate me for the damage after several phone calls to their office while the movers were still there. Again, they attempted to charge me for this time aslo.
A bookcase, tonzu and chair were also damaged. They attempted to use a furniture pen to fix the scratches and dings which made it worse. The total compensation was $ 80.
They only accept cash payment for the move in. This was a surprise and wasn’t communicated on the quote. Then the mover didn’t have change.
On the positive side, they were fast and courteous. They did do a good job wrapping and protecting my art and glass items.

3 stars off! Very sad — however, using them a second time around was a disaster. The movers had total attitude and seemed suprised (and made a snide remark or two) about me not assisting them. HELLO??? I hired them to move — if I wanted to do the moving, I would have. The rest of the move went well but who needs attitude like that — really, the move is stressful for me, not for the movers!

Five stars for a moving company? YES! This company is THE company to use when you have a move. I’m a frequent mover (personally and having overseen numerous office moves) and thrilled to have found this company. They are just great, great great.
Longer version —
The office staff is friendly and helpful and was great about following up just prior to the move. And on moving day the guys showed up exactly on time and parked in a way that did not block traffice (not that easy to do on my street). They were polite, friendly, fast and strong. Unloading, nice, helpful, even ASKED if there was a way I wanted the wardrobe boxes unloaded and stacked boxes nicely in a way that was easy to go thru (I should say is as there are still boxes left).
HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this company!!!
