Sunshine Dentistry

I was fascinated about the level of service they provide. Upon entering they got me checked in right away and offered me room temperature or chilled water in a lounge that is cozy with plenty of reading material and a t.v. The service was so exceptional that I asked for headphones so I can tune out the sound of them giving me a a deep cleaning and filling two cavities, that one of the assistants gave me hers to borrow. I listened to music the whole time. The dr. Made sure I was extremely numb so I wouldn’t feel a thing, and despite all the uncomfortable needles, I really didn’t feel any pain. The only thing I wasn’t to sure about, is that he kept leaving and taking small breaks in between my fillings and deep cleansing that I grew curious as to where he kept disappearing to. I assumed he was helping and attending other guest which I understand since he’s the only doctor in that place. I kind of had a problem with it because I ended up staying there for two hours when one of his assistance told me it be an hour. However, I did arrive an hour before my appointment and they took me in right away. So I either brought it upon myself or its a smart choice to go early cause he has other patients to attend to. Either way, the service was great, they got me in quick, gave me a cold water bottle, let me borrow personal headphones, and gave me a hygiene kit to take home with instructions. I’ll be coming back her for my check up in a couple of months and I know I will be well taken care of.

The front and back employees are all very nice and knowledgeable. Dr. Arjamand is very nice and approachable. I feel comfortable asking questions and he works very gentle. I like that he explains what he is going to do. The office looks and smells so clean every time. I have usually jumped from one dentist to another but I am definitely staying with this dentistry! It’s been almost 2 years so far.

After holding out partly for hopes that my employer might add dental care, I neglected to see the dentist for more then five years until a infection forced me to do otherwise. I was super nervous and a little embarrassed of the neglect to my choppers but from the moment I walked into Sunshine all of their staff sooo nice and supportive! They fixed me right up! I had two extractions, deep cleaning and fillings all in one session and didn’t feel a thing, seriously no pain. Doctor Ardjmand made sure I was completely numb and he and the assistants were so gentle making sure I was completely comfortable. I was also worried about the cost but their really nice finance associate worked out a super reasonable payment plan. Couldn’t be more happy with my experience, I highly recommend Sunshine Dentistry!!!

Let me preface this by saying if I could give 0 stars, I would. Steer very clear from this place. I had my first appointment back in 2014 where I recieved my xrays. First appointment I had to wait 20+ minutes, which was not an issue back then thinking it was just a busy day. I received my xrays and Dr. Arjamand recommended a deep cleaning. I had not seen a dentist in two years, so I thought why not? It was $ 200 after insurance but I paid for it (along with the exta $ 50 prescription mouth wash and toothpaste) thinking I’d like to have a long-​term dentist and a good regimen now that I had insurance through work.
He recommended replacing all my silver amalgams with composite. I had a great dentist (Mira Mesa Dental) and they’ve never failed to do a great job so the fact that he had recommended it kind of alerted me. He said ALL my fillings were cracking. Kind of offensive to my previous dentists since we had been with them for 15+ years and never had an issue. Do your research on composites vs. amalgams. Sure, the composites look better, but the silver amalgams will last longer.
My appointment for deep cleaning goes as follows: scheduled at 4:00 so I showed up at 3:45. Upon sitting down, I checked my phone to see there was a voicemail from the front desk. They would be 20 minutes late from my original time (shocker…) Okay, no biggie. Boyfriend and I walked around North Park and came back at 4:20. When I got to my exam room, they started by numbing my gums topically and let it sit for five minutes in which afterwards, Dr. Arjmand came in to inject the anesthetic. Even though the effects were instantaneous, I sat in the room for more than fifteen minutes with the door wide open which was extremely uncomfortable considering both staff and patients’ guests were walking around and peering into the room. The doctor finally came in and started the deep cleaning process. I think he must’ve scraped for three minutes, then had a hygienist come in to clean my bottom three teeth and used the finishing strip (abrasive strip) in about three spaces. I don’t know if she was doing this as a means to distract me because he was clearly working on other patients right next door (see past Unilocal reviews, guess this is quite common). A quick glance at the computer monitor behind me let me know they were WAY overbooked (I would know, I worked in medical scheduling for years before). I then sat there again for twenty minutes with no doctor. He finally comes in looking rushed, scales maybe two more teeth then finishes off with medication and let’s me go… umm, okay. Since my mouth was completely numb, I couldn’t ask any questions or say anything.
Here’s the thing that I don’t get. I called before my appointment and asked how long all four quadrants would take & they said at least an hour. Even if I did 30 minutes for the medication, that should’ve given me at least 30 minutes of dental work. Most research online says 90 minutes for all four quadrants. I asked if a dental hygienist or doctor was going to do it and they said the doctor does everything and he’s the only one there. So why was I at my appointment for an hour an a half (started at 4:30, left at 6 pm) and I saw my doctor for about 6 minutes total? Minus the numbing and waiting for the medication to set in, a normal cleaning takes longer that what I experienced in the «deep cleaning». I feel completely taken advantage of and ripped off.
I still needed to get my regular cleaning, so I scheduled it for the next month. They called a week later saying they had to reschedule it, which wasn’t for another FOUR months saying that he had family issues he had to take care of. Okay, if you can’t schedule me then I guess I can’t do anything about it, right?
Finally, fast forward to today, four months and excited to finally get my teeth cleaned. DA said he’d be right in, but sat in the chair for 30 minutes. I heard another patient walk in the room next to me, and they said the same thing to him — doc will be right in. Little did I know, he was still working on a patient 30 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start. I walked to the front desk, demanded my x-​rays and left. Since I didn’t get a cleaning, I will be going to another dentist to get a second opinion.
Thank you Sheila and Blanca for being SO sweet and professional every single time. You guys are probably the only saving graces there. I hate dentists but this definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I was excited to spend my money, find a long-​term dentist and get my teeth taken care of, but alas, I just wasted a ton of time and money on a sh*tty dentist who doesn’t understand the value of time or patronage. Take your hard earned money elsewhere.

I have nothing bad to say. I have had a crown done here and now have had my second cleaning. The doctor is wonderful. The staff is so friendly and capable. I’ve found my dentist for life.

office staff was extremely helpful however, my mouth required much more work than the dentist could do. I would recommend them for routine work but any major work should be sought elsewhere. the dentist was also very kind & understanding.

The office staff was very accommodating with my busy schedule. I finally made it in for a routine cleaning. I wish they did the cleaning and examination at the same visit because I don’t live close & their procedure is to first visit just examine then second visit will be the cleaning & any necessary dental work needed.
Turns out I needed a few fillings, the Doctor was great about explaining everything to me and showing me on the X-​Ray. The assistants both times were friendly, educational, and respectful of my time. The office is at a convenient location & it’s decorated adorable as well. I thought it was a good experience & the prices are adorable for quality work.

I came to this office with great fear of dentists. I’m very happy I found this practice! Dr. Ardjmand is kind, patient and caring. This was a virtually painless root canal. The Dr is gentle and made sure I was comfortable before, during and after. They even covered me with a soft blanket! I can’t describe how much I appreciate that. His office is clean and nicely decorated. His staff is super friendly and very accommodating. I always feel comfortable and almost like family when I come here. I don’t have a negative thing to say about my experiences with Dr. Ardjmand and his staff.

I was leery of dentists for years until coming here. I have been coming here for over a year now, the doctor and the staff just keep me coming back. The doctor is extremely knowledgeable, very careful, and even with each procedure I never had any discomfort while he worked to need to be put under, I stayed awake for each and every procedure. even though I know I am not the only patient in the office the staff so smothers you with attention as if your the only person there which almost makes me want to tear up with joy.

Had a tooth extraction and a cleaning. Place is clean and nicely kept, staff friendly, the doctor himself had a calm, no-​nonesense, competent demeanor that I found reassuring (and I hate going to the dentist). The proceedure was excellently handled in a professional and compassionate manner. They worked with my insurance and they take Care Credit, which is handy.

This is my family’s dentist and we all love the staff and Dr. Ardjmand. I’ve had no problems getting an appointment and have never had a wait when I’m there. I have pretty good teeth and only had one small cavity filled since I began coming here three years ago. Just had me teeth cleaned today and decided I wanted to leave a review as the experience was so pleasant – not something I usually say about a dental visit.

They are really friendly here, but the actual dental experience was a nightmare. I had to have a root canal done and I have to say that it was VERY painful. The tooth that Dr. Ardjmand worked on hurt for about a week or so straight. I went in again because it was so painful, but they said that everything looked fine. Now, I’ve had a root canal done before and I can say that the pain I was feeling from the tooth Dr. Ardjmand worked on wasn’t normal. I also didn’t appreciate the fact that he was working on at least 2 other patients at the same time he was working on me. Needless to say, it didn’t feel sterile and to top it all off, the goggles they had me put on were dirty from the previous patient — I know, super gross. I’m pretty surprised that this place currently has a 4 star rating. I would really suggest looking elsewhere if possible especially if you need to have a root canal done.

Finally getting around to my update — yikes, sorry for the delay.
I have to admit, I am disappointed with the negative reviews people have posted on Unilocal about Sunshine Dentistry. I really can’t imagine folks having such a bad experience when mine was so great.
So I went back for a cleaning and replacement of an old filling. The hygenist was super nice. She and Dr. Ardjmand made sure I was comfortable with everything that was going on. He did refer me to an endodontist because I have a tooth that may need a root canal.
I am very happy with everyone at Sunshine Dentistry and highly recommend Dr. Ardjmand and his staff.

Absolutely wonderful. The staff is sweet and the Dr. is too. Their care is top-​notch. I’ll miss them a lot.

This was an overall terrible experience for me. There are far too many choices of quality dentists and capable office and billing people to even bother calling this practice.
Here is a partial list of terrible things I had to put up with.
1. They made an initial appt. for me right away, as in the very next day. I went in and they didnt have me on the books. I waited for over an hour tbefore I decided to leave.
2. They again made a quick appt. for me and again got it wrong. I didnt have to wait as long to get in to see the assistant. The Dr. came in and only did half of what he was supposed to.
3. They said I had to schedule an appt. for the rest of it and that it would only be a few minutes which begs the question, why not wait. Now that I have already paid… next appt. SIX WEEKS! That is not OK.
4. Then I find out they shorted me on the terms of my Care Credit plan only giving me 6 months to pay with no interest instead of 12 months like every other provider I have used. They swear it is on something I signed, though I have no record of it.
5. I still have 2 achy teeth that dr. says there is nothing wrong with.
6. When I called on any of these topics, they treated me like every little bit of it was my fault and offered me no concessions aside from putting me on a cancellation/​wait list when their appt. book suddenly filled for 6 weeks.
Overall, why bother with people like this. There are literally hundreds of dentists in San Diego. Search on.

Update! I came back to get a cavity fixed plus switch out my ugly amalgam fillings for pretty pearly whites. In total, I had 6 teeth drilled on (yikes!). I was scared, but I brought plenty of things to distract me, including my noise-​canceling headphones (I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone that doesn’t enjoy the sound of the drilling). Dr. Arjmand and his assistant were so gentle and kind, yet efficient. I was in and out in less time than I expected. I still highly recommend this dentist.

I’d like to preface this by saying that I really hate going to the dentist. I get seriously anxious and generally avoid it at all costs…
I LOVE Sunshine Dentistry! Dr. Ardjmand is quick, efficient, and friendly. All of the hygenists are friendly and good at what they do, and the receptionist is possibly the nicest person I’ve ever met.
Because I hadn’t been to the dentist in a while I needed a lot of work done, so they gave me complementary bleaching trays, which was super great on its own. They decided to also give my fiancé a set because we’re getting married soon! Such nice folks. We are so excited to show off our bright white (and healthy!) teeth at the wedding and we will be patients here for as long as we’re in San Diego.

Friendly, charming, probably very wealthy. so why the one star? I made a life changing dental decision based on information that the dentist and his office provided. it was incomplete information and I wasn’t aware of that until it was too late to make another decision. I do know this is kind of a boutique type of dentistry. They are not inexpensive, even with insurance. There is a lot of ‘up-​selling’. I referred a few people here before I discovered my bad decision. they all said the same thing, ‘nice guy. too expensive!” and «sold me or tried to sell me a bunch of products» not one of them went back. It’s been years since I was there and every time I think I’m over the bitterness and anger, I drive by that office, or I have a problem with my mouth or for some reason I just start thinking about it. and in my head I go through the whole list of what I could of done differently before making the decision I did. Here are some TIPS to avoid making an uneducated decision.
1. Ask for a description of the procedure from prep to end result, including how many visits it will take and if there is a charge for each visit… in writing! 2. Ask for a written estimate and what that estimate includes. 3. Ask how long the work is expected to last and if there is any guarantee on the dental work, such as crowns, veneers, dentures etc. 4. Ask if the recommended work is the «standard» recommendation. 5. Ask if there is a lower priced alternative. 6. Ask what to expect after the dental work. 7. If you are having something done (dentures, bridges, etc) ask if the denture, bridge, etc is permanent or if you will have to get the permanent one later (how much later?) and if it is temporary do you have to pay more when you get the permanent dental work. If I had asked one or more of those questions, it would of made a huge difference in the decision I made. Don’t make the mistake of trusting your dental or medical provider to give you all the information you need to make decisions. You have to ask questions because you are the one who has to live with the decision you make. A rough lesson for me but trust me I won’t forget it.

Obviously, no one is excited about going to the dentist; especially if you’re in the market for a new one. And again if you have to drive to the lovely street of El Cajon…
But! Once you walk inside, you are greeted with a smiling face and staff that are very capable at their tasks. From receptionist to assistant to doctor, all are friendly, efficient and good. The waiting area is comfortable, with new magazines for viewing (though I haven’t had to wait more than 10″).
I was seriously dreading my morning visit to fill 6 cavities (hey! it’s not me, we have bad teeth genetics!!), but the entire visit was about an hour long, I didn’t feel a thing, and now I’m cavity free!
Caveat — my husband did have a long wait at 1 visit, due to an emergency tooth something-​or-​other, so they offered him a Free ZOOM whitening; now That’s customer service!
Very knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and they get the job done — what more do you want from a dentist?!
