Mac’s is no longer — it has been resurrected or reincarnated as «The Reunion» — — much cleaner, much lighter & brighter — a HUGE improvement over Macs — give it a whirl!

Mac’s is written in the same font as «Nick’s» from Nick’s at the Pier, but mistake you not, they are nothing alike. At about 9pm on a Monday there were more pool tables than patrons in the bar. There is a sweet view from inside the bar and they have big windows to take advantage of it’s hilltop location. However, despite the great view, this is very much a dark dive bar, do not be fooled. The bartender was a friendly guy, my beer was cold and there were some cool tunes on the juke. Overall, not a bad place, just not a place I’ll be adding to my regular rotation before I hit 50.

The only time this place is worth going to is on a Friday night. Any other night when Vickie(the matronly bartender) is working, it’s a friggin nightmare. She is the most passive agressive, rudest person I have ever met. Can you say BUZZKILL. I have seen her give so much crap to customers and turn them away! My husband is 50 years old, and she would not accept his MILITARYID! She brings so much bad juju to this place. The only reason worth going there is Friday night when Matt is working.

I actually think I would frequent Mac’s more, but I like to walk or ride to the neighborhood bars. And let me tell you, if I have choice, I like riding my beach cruiser to OB dive bars. Why? Because it screams out«OBSTREETCRED»!!! It’s kinda like the bikers at Cheswicks, but a bit different. Now getting to Mac’s on my Mt. Bike– no problemo. For that matter, getting just about anywhere on the Mt. Bike is pretty doable. But on my beloved cruiser that requires laborious peddling when going down hill because the chain is rusted from 3 years spent in the damp OB elements-now that is another story. Yes, that small hill is a bit much for me on the old cruiser. As a result, I don’t stop at Mac’s all that often. Mac’s has one extremely redeeming quality. A quality that should be known to all you alcoholics, er, Unilocalers, out there. It’s happy hour!!! Runs from 11 – 7. 64 oz domestic pitchers for $ 6. Yes, that is correct $ 6…

The sign outside this dive bar advertised shuffleboard. It lied. In the absence of shuffleboard, our hero decided to shoot a few rounds of pool with his friends. When he was down to two balls and in the lead, an observer stated, «looks like you just have to sink the 10 ball now.» «No… I still have two balls on the table.» Taking another look, our hero realized that both his balls on the table were 10’s. As wonky as their pool tables are though, it’s only 50 cents a game, and they have 4 tables. A poster of the house rules posted by the pinball machine included the following two rules: — «No 3 ball» — «No 9 ball» This is apparently Mac’s attempt to avoid getting busted for running«gambling games»(as the bartender called them). They’ve also banned dice in the bar as well. Back in the day, people used to throw dice on the bar and the loser would have to pay for the jukebox. Not anymore though because the paranoid management has banned anything remotely linked to illegal gambling. The regulars here were awfully entertaining. A man told our hero a story about how he knew a woman in Washington that could make vaginal farts on command. Our hero had to get back to his pool game, but the man’s overly loud conversations lead to anal bleaching, and other topics that would make a schoolboy blush. Eventually, the man said something so lewd or offensive that the matronly bartender poured out his drink and threatened to kick him out. She doesn’t take no sass from nobody. As our hero was leaving, the other regulars told him to take the anal bleaching man with him. Fat chance. PROS: — 64 oz pitchers of Bud or Bud Light for $ 6 from 11AM — 7PM. — A nice internet jukebox. CONS: — False advertising on their street sign. No shuffleboard. — Even with all the fans on, it’s still hot in here. — Next to no snacks in their vending machine. — A bartender with an attitude. — Nobody under 40 drinks here.

Total dive bar! Certain bartenders are not very customer friendly.
