No stars? Absolutely the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Kung Pao chicken. How do you mess that up? Please. Stay away.

Took 3 hours to get our food, and they could not after that deliver to the door, or do a discount on the food. Never again.

Ten dollars and sixty five cents for an appetizer plate the size of an iPhone 6s. Please. Kung Pao San Yang reeked of canned bamboo and pork cooked without any wine. Absolutely appetite killing. Décor was clean, service was nice but got our rice orders wrong. +1 star.

This is the best Chinese food around. It’s expensive because it’s made much better than Panda Express, which is gross, and what many people might be used to.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Honestly, it’s not that bad a Chinese restaurant. Certainly doesn’t warrant a 2.5 star. The Chinese food is close enough. It would be 2.5 star in Alhambra or Monterey Park. It’d be 3 star on Convoy. But folks, this is in the middle of Qualcomm land. Your alternatives for Chinese are 2 really ghetto food court Panda Express ripoffs(the one next to subway and the other next to green spot). I would be a little wary of the white man friendly foods. I definitely think the Chinese menu is fine. The Chinese set course dinners are pretty standard fair for a Chinese family growing up in LA. The standard seafood bean curd soup, classics like the green beans, black pepper beer, shrimp e pepper and salt, etc. Its extremely nostalgic for what I was used to growing up in LA in the 80s as a Chinese kid, and it’s done fairly representative. Let’s not beat around the bush here. They won’t win any awards for food quality or authenticity. But it fills a sorely needed niche here and it’s really not bad. Who has time during lunch to drive to Convoy for a passable beef noodle soup? No one. They do an ok one here. Sure, it’s nothing like what I get in Taiwan, but it gets the job done.

Went for lunch during the work week. The lunch special was about $ 10, no drink included. Service was fast when it came to getting seated and putting your order in, but after that, our server was neither friendly or attentive, and never came back after the food was brought out. Even though the table was set with teacups, we weren’t offered tea or asked if we wanted to order any. Some places will give you a fortune cookie with your check, but we didn’t get any. Several bugs were flying around near our booth and we had to swat them away from our food. The food was nothing special, and the rice was dry. I had a terrible MSG headache afterwards. Would not go back.

Nasty. This was for takeout so I can’t say anything about their service, but this is some horrible, bland food. I ordered the Hot and Sour soup(small) and Kung Pao shrimp. Total $ 26 dollars. For 26 $ this better have been the best tasting Chinese food outside of a 5 Star restaurant. Food — 1.5 stars Price to Value: 1.5 Stars Service: N/A(she did tell me not to order the medium cause it would be too big, so thanks for that). Ambiance: Takeout so N/A. Gonna have to round down to 1 star for this one. Avoid.

Terrible! Once I show them the group on discount, there is no service at all. They think I am taking advantage of them. Food and service are not recommended. Last time for me to go there.

***Please note that this restaurant is in a business park strip mall so around lunch time, it gets pretty packed. Be forewarned!*** I used to be a regular at their Solana Beach location before it closed three years ago so when I discovered their other restaurant near my office, I decided to give them a try. I walked in and recognized one of the waitresses as someone that used to wait on me in Solana Beach. Very nice person. She took me to my seat and came back a short time later to take my order. I ended up ordering the Ma-La(had a hard time understanding the waitress) which contained carrots, peas, mushrooms, carrots, chicken, shrimp, and onions. It was super good! And the egg rolls are great and not greasy at all. One nice thing is that the entrée was big enough to take home for dinner! Service was also great. My waitress was very personable. I look forward to bringing my wife here for lunch/dinner one day. I will definitely be returning.

They are ok food is decent service sucks. And when it comes to restaurants I’m not super picky but to go to a restaurant especially the Chinese restaurant at night and they say they don’t serve fried rice at night because it’s too hard to make okay i guess i will only eat here during the daytime. The closest to my house so that’s why I go like I said the food’s pretty good

Went for lunch. Had to wait close to 30 – 40 minutes after the initial soup was served. And every dish comes separately. Ordered 3 different dishes and server came with each dish almost 10 minutes apart.

Disgraceful restaurant! The food is laden with MSG and oil — not worth the price. Don’t visit.

Panda express is better than this place. Customer service isn’t top notch, there isn’t anything that sparks me to come back. Also, the group-on discount doesn’t save you much. This place isn’t the best restaurant around town. I’ve had a lot better quality food else where.

I frequent this location due to general convenience as I work across the street. I’m giving a three star because it’s in general just OK. Their wonton is not standard, their portions are fine, and they do check up on us frequently. Their food is sort of bland, but it’s OK. Nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn’t go there if it weren’t conveniently across the street.

Terrible. How do you mess up egg drop soup? How do you make this simple, tasty dish into a bland, goopy, gross mess? I don’t know, but this restaurant sure knows how to. Not good. The food isn’t fresh tasting, the prices are very higher and the service is extraordinarily unfriendly. Pass!

This place I guess survived so long because its the only Chinese place around and its in front of Qualcomm. Surprisingly it isn’t very quick when you go here for lunch. I have never been a great fan of their food… and me being a veggie don’t get to have a million options at a Chinese place. The few options they have taste bland and at times weird… The only option I would suggest you were a vegetarian is the vegetable fried rice which is bearable…

Despite the chinesey sounding name and the Chinese characters on the sign, it serves Americanized(!) Chinese food. You know, eastern pearl, fragrant harbour, happy valley etc, vs. panda express, bamboo garden, little Buddha… you can sorta guess from the fractured English if a restaurant serves dishes of the more authentic variety vs. Americanized Chinese. This place caters mostly to the lunchtime office crowd from the nearby tech company. There’s a lunch menu of the usual offerings, but none catch your eye and it’s all the usual stuff like general tso’s chicken, mongolian beef, etc. It’s like they used to cook the authentic stuff, but somewhere along the way they decided to cater to more western tastebuds. Food arrives coated in cloyingly sweet or salty sauce, totally smothering whatever flavour was left in the ingredients. The restaurant is huge though, sufficient to hold up to 30 tables for a chinese banquet. I’m wondering if they really serve the authentic stuff during banquets. I wish they didn’t try to Americanize all the dishes, I suspect they would taste much much better.

Local restaurant opened by a Taiwanese guy Came here for lunch. Felt like eating healthy and my friend recommended their noodle soup. I ordered Pork with Pickled Vegetable Noodle Soup($ 8.45) and here is a picture FOOD: The soup and pork were both a little bland. Good thing was that it wasn’t too salty or greasy. The consistency of the noodles was okay and not overcooked. The portion was also decent, pretty big bowl of noodles. PARKING: Parking at that mall during lunch hour on weekdays is always bad. I guess people work nearly usually just walk there for lunch.

Don’t understand why Chinese food is so expensive in SD. This is another place that overcharges their food. Chinese food was meant to be cheap and delicious. Lunch specials during the week for $ 10 is so expensive. I only order here when I really have no other option to choose from that’s within walking distance. The food itself is not bad at all but the pricing completely turns it off. If you have money to fling, this is not bad of place to eat Chinese food. It’s pretty empty during the weekend though because it’s situated in the heart of the Qualcomm campus which is pretty dead during the weekend for the obvious reasons.

Upgrading my review to 4 stars for the following reason: Last night was my mom’s birthday, and she wanted to come here to celebrate. Despite our party of 5 — including my disabled uncle — and arriving here fifteen minutes until closing time, the manager kept the place open for us and made sure we were well taken care of. How many other restaurants do you know that would do such a thing? (Of course, the MSG still put me under when I got home… but at least the food was still good.)
