I did like most, read the reviews before going. I brought in an old green antique slipper chair and Estella helped me pick out a fabric that was bold and perfect for what I was looking for. Her first pick was right on, even though we plunged though the other fabric books.
They did a wonderful job on the reupholstery as well as re-​stuffing/​supporting the chair. They even added double piping though out!

This place exceeded my expectations! I had some chairs I wanted redone so I brought them here based on the great reviews.
They offer a huge selection of fabrics! I probably changed my mind about 10 times due to so many options.
The staff is very patient and it looks to be family run which is another big bonus.
What blew me away was how quick they had my chairs done. They had quoted me 2 weeks but it was half of the time.
Will definitely be bringing my stuff back here!

I have an old denim sectional that I love, and it fits my family room perfectly. Because it is old 15 years, it was looking and feeling its age and needed to be re-​upholstered. It also needed some of the wood structure fixed (replaced) compliments of my 90 pound dog jumping on it. Hillcrest Upholstery did a beautiful job of making it look new. They were more than happy to use the denim fabric I bought elsewhere. They replaced the wood sections that were broken. The new padding is more comfortable than what I had before. My sectional now livens up the room, instead of looking like I need to replace it. Thank you so much for your wonderful work. I also appreciate that you also picked up and delivered my sectional. I do not know how I would have gotten it you.

I shopped around and emailed a few upholstery places to re-​upholster a lazy boy chair. I sent dimensions to several places. Estela responded to my emails and questions and within a few days, they picked up my chair and fabric. The quotes I received were all within $ 50-​$ 100 of each other. However, I chose Hillcrest Upholstery because of Estela’s willingness to work with me via email — based on photos and dimensions of my chair. I also really like the fact that they picked up and dropped off — a huge help for anyone who does not have a truck or the time. Everyone from Estela to the drivers who picked up and delivered my chair were friendly and professional.
I received my chair today — 2 days earlier than expected. They told me it would be completed in 2 weeks. It is beautiful. The chair is much sturdier and the craftsmanship is perfect. I highly recommend them and would use them again.

Prompt and professional service
I picked up my reupholstered sofa cushions yesterday and could not be more pleased with the final product. Yes they are a bit pricey but I did my homework and compared to the rest of San Diego they actually are very fair compared to other upholsterers.
My item was ready on the day they said it would be. I would strongly recommend this establishment

The Owner’s daughter’s response is exactly what I would have expected from this business given my previous review of their poor customer service. Good customer service would dictate offering an explanation in a polite manner rather than sarcastically apologizing. Clearly there is not a great understanding of professionalism nor customer service from this establishment (at least in my case) as is exemplified when at the end of the response Estella uses a «winky face.» I am sure she learned this tactic in business school.
My name is Estela, and I am the person that you spoke to when you came into our shop (not a customer). It is very unfortunate that you felt this way after being in our business for less than a minute and a half.
Regarding parking, we are not responsible for the amount of parking available at any given time. We are very sorry that we do not have a private parking area, but given that we are on a major street, parking lots are difficult to come by. Simply getting a space on a major street is very difficult, so we could not afford to rule out our location, because of parking. Most of our customers understand that this is not our fault, as we cannot control the amount of cars that are on our street. We are sorry that you feel that you can fault us on this.
At no time was anyone trying to make you feel «dumb» for not knowing what size the pillow was and perhaps this is why you felt embarrassed and were quick to judge us.
We are an upholstery business, not a retail store, and what you refer to as «clutter», is actually our customers’ furniture pieces, which are in our front office, not only to display the quality of our work, but also, so they do not get damaged in the back, where our upholsterer’s are working on other projects.
Andrew greeted you at the door first, and quite kindly asked if he could help you. If he didn’t have an answer to your question regarding pricing, it is because that is not his job. That job is mine and my father’s, the owner, (who was not present at the time) which is why I (holding the roll of fabric) approached to assist. I asked him what he needed, not what you needed. I was asking him if he needed my help.
You are correct in saying that I told you three (3) times that $ 75 was the cost of labor, but that was because you asked me two (2) times, and then asked again, if it included the fabric. At which point you turned around and left.
It appears that we have a different view of what happened, and we are sorry that your point of view of your experience with us was unpleasant. We are, however happy that you were able to find someone else to do the work that you needed done, and at a lower price, on Etsy.
Regarding our pricing, we make no apologies, because, although you do not agree, we believe that our pricing is fair, considering the quality of our work and that we have a 5 year workmanship guarantee, which entitles our customers to return to us if there is a problem with their finished product within those 5 years.

Another hit out of the park by these guys. The work they do is just gorgeous. Such attention to detail! They are also very friendly and patient. Sometimes it’s not easy to coordinate moving furniture around, etc, but they are so wiling to help or wiling to wait for a convenient time. They will have my business every time I need something upholstered.

I had a bad feeling when I called a store in the middle of North Park that had named itself Hillcrest Upholstery. But the reviews were good so I rang them up. After sending in some photos I got a quote to reupholster two sofa cushions. It said labor was going to be $ 170. I thought that was high but figured they did good work so maybe you’re just paying for a job well done. Then I showed my GF and noticed it was per cushion. I’ve done some sewing in my life, even redone seats for chairs, and all I can say is «What’s their hourly rate?» Seriously. With my limited experience I could do a decent job in 30 minutes. Which makes me think a pro should be able to do a great job in 20. But even saying it takes them 90 minutes per cushion which I hope isn’t the case we’re talking about $ 113 an hour. Wow. Add in their cheapest fabric which I was told was $ 40 a yard and you’re talking about $ 500+ to recover two seat cushions. I called Oscar (another Unilocal find) and he said $ 90 labor for the two cushions and told me about a website where I could hopefully find a fabric that works. I don’t care how much better they are… I’d go with Oscar just out of self-​respect.
**Update**
Sorry it does say $ 170 for labor and foam per cushion. There is a little foam missing from both cushions. I assumed as you lumped them together (which Oscar did as well) the foam replacement was a negligible price. Apparently your foam is $ 100 more than the competition? Also they did provide a website but that doesn’t change that their cheapest fabric in store is $ 40 a yard. If you were in Manhattan these prices would make sense. You’re in North Park.
Just to be clear I haven’t used their services but I’m tired of businesses thriving off ripping lazy people off.

We had Hillcrest Upholstery reupholster six dining-​room parsons chairs. We had not used them before, but based on reviews on Unilocal,conversations with the staff, and quotes from other upholstery shops, we opted to go with them. They picked up the chairs from our home, bought the correct fabric, and returned them on schedule ~10 days later. We were extremely happy with the results, the chairs looking brand new. I had toyed with reupholstering them myself, but an hour or so of pulling out staples brought me to my senses. I can recommend them without reservation

Hillcrest Upholstery is wonderful! From their friendly & professional customer service to their excellent quality of work, to their timely turn around times, this place rocks! Having just picked up newly upholstered dining chairs, along with new pillows & cushions for my living room today I have no doubt that I will return to Hillcrest Upholstery any time I have a need for re-​upholstering, or furniture restoration. Estela was great about answering my email questions on a timely basis, and she was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Check them out… you will not be disappointed!

These people are as good as they get. Have two beautiful but older Baker love seats. Hillcrest Upholstery has restuffed the cushions, cushion backs and now are retying the springs. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of work they provide. Lots less $$ than buying new love seats.

I inherited a set of really old twin beds from my dad from when he was a kid in the 1920s, and one of them was in really sorry shape. I asked my handyman to turn it into a little loveseat for the patio. It turned out really well, but needed an odd shaped cushion. So I made a pattern & took it along with a few pictures to Hillcrest upholstery for a bench seat. I also wanted them to make me cushions for a pair of great teak patio chairs that were hard to fit with cushions.
I originally found them on Unilocal with a long list of excellent reviews. Although their shop is a long way from my home, I first went there to meet them, along with pictures of some other antiques which I had inherited from my mom. I met the family, and they are all so nice! They gave me a quote and told me how much fabric I would need, plus referred me to a fabric store in Clairmont with ridiculously cheap upholstery fabric prices. Of course, I also could have used fabric they had on hand or could order, but I thought it was quite nice of them to give me a less expensive option (with the direction of how much fabric I would exactly need).
Sorry to digress. Long story short, I decided to try them out on the smaller patio project. They did an amazing job on the loveseat & teak chair cushions (& a few small pillows), charged me exactly what they quoted, & it was ready sooner than the 2 weeks they promised. They are a very efficient & friendly family business, & I would urge you to consider them.

I purchased an antique chair in need of a face lift. I brought it over to Hillcrest Upholstery with no appointment, but merely to get a quote. They were so kind to take the chair off my hands immediately and gave me a time frame for when it would be finished. I also purchased my beautiful fabric from them; they had a large bin of remnant rolls that had great selections for reasonable prices. I admit, I had a little sticker shock when they gave me the first set of numbers, but after they finished it turned out to be less $$!!
In just under 7 days (and a week sooner than expected) my ragged old chair became a beautiful masterpiece. Thanks Hillcrest Upholstery!!!

You get what you pay for, and for the price you literally can not beat the quality that these guys provide. I have had some couch cushions restuffed and some chairs upholstered. Every time they exceeded my expectations. Why buy new when you can come here and make your furniture one of a kind.

These guys fixed a broken zipper on my chaise lounge cover. They were so friendly and reasonably priced! When I brought it home and tried to put it on the cushion, the zipper broke again. I brought it back and they fixed it right away and it looks great. Fantastic service!

Hillcrest Upholstery is top notch! I walked in with settee cushions for a boat and outside cockpit cushions that needed all new fabric. The team at HIllcrest Upholstery was able to complete my entire order in only 2 days and everything looks fantastic! There aren’t enough kind words to describe how professional, fast and wonderful their staff is. I highly recommend this shop.

The staff are courteous, knowledgable, and accommodating. The work is impeccable, people are nice and service is awesome. I will use them again and again and I highly recommend them.

First off, Marty from Home Fabrics (in Clairemont Square) referred us. Like morons we went somewhere else. Won’t say where or their business name but they’re off of Morena Blvd and they were HORRIBLE!
Quoted one thing via email. Told us something different in person. The whole time they never remembered emailing back and forth with us. Quoted 1 week turn around over the phone and later said 2 – 3 weeks. Met them on person and they didn’t even acknowledge us when we walked in. I could go on and on, but this is about HU, right? Seriously the ones off of Morena Blvd sucked saggy goat balls.
Finally we got some sense in us and went to Hillcrest Upholstery. They quoted turn around time + price over the phone. Totally under promised and over delivered. Big time. Met with Estella there. She was awesome. Greeted us when we walked in and was totally cool. Not pompous like the other people.
Onward…
We have two club chairs. We brought them in on Wednesday and they told us it’d be done by Saturday cuz we were expecting company over that weekend.
We got the call that it was done on Friday. FRIDAY!
Picked up the chairs and they looked pretty badass. Awesome gentleman helped load them in the car. The wood frame on the chairs were even conditioned or oiled or whatever you call it. Point is they went WAYYYY over and above.
Go here and not to the shady place off of Morena blvd. HU rocks!
