CRAZY! Just drive by this place — you can see filthy pillows dangling out of open windows — which you can barely even see because they’re so dirty. Thought I’d give them a call anyway because the Unilocal reviews were decent as we’re looking for a place for a month. Despite the fact that the sign says«daily, weekly, monthly» rates and they’re on a site advertising monthly, they don’t allow you to stay for a month. Maximum 3 weeks. Then, you can’t even make a reservation — it’s walk-in only, so how the heck are you supposed to count on a place to stay? Seems that by allowing people to make reservations, they could avoid the type of clientele that are making them change their monthly policies to begin with. It is cheap, I’ll give you that — but then again, there are probably ample reasons for that.

Really old hotel but kept about as clean as can be. Can’t beat the weekly rate. Stayed here because I was moving here and needed a place to stay for awhile while I was looking for an apartment. Paid for a full week but only ended up needing to stay for 2 nights. Guy at the front desk was super cool and friendly and refunded me the difference no questions asked and in cash! Not a bad area to be in either. No problems finding parking on the street. Bottom line: good place to stay if you’re looking to stay for a little while or even longer and not break the bank. Probably not for you if you’re used to the finer things in life though. Oh and I would definitely recommend bringing a candle or some air freshener, it kind of has an old people house smell to it if you know what I mean.

Okay, I read Stacy’s review. She is not exactly wrong, but it seems like she stayed for a night. I stayed twice: Once for 6 months and once for over to years. I move in on a weekly basis for three weeks and was going to move(as I was brand new to San Diego) but they let me stay monthly. Considering the rent and location I agreed that it was a fair deal. I liked it so much that a year later, when I needed a place to live in San Diego again I moved back. Here is what you should know: The area is GREAT! It is «Hillcrest,» One lonnnnng block north of Balboa Park. Down the street are a few nightclubs. That may be what creeped Stacy out. There is a giant church across the street(Greek Orthodox if I recall), and a liquor store within a block if you need. It is 5 minutes away from a very upscale Ralph’s and three minutes away from 7 – 11 and several nice eateries. It is close enough to the 163(about 7 minutes) that you can get anywhere in San Diego. The hotel itself: Definitely 1930’s. Cool but not the Waldorf. It has seen better days but the ownership does keep it clean and does do repairs. There is a full time maintenance guy who is always fixing something. It has the grandness of the 1920’w/30’s but it looks as if it has always been a budget hotel. Not a place to bring a girl like Stacy on a date. If you need AFFORDABLE rent this is the place. Other hotels cost 2 – 3 times as much, and I am talking Motel 6, 8, 9, etc, not the glamorous hotels. This brings us to the people. At these rates you might find some people live here who are not supermodels and millionaires. Perhaps this creeped Stacey out. These are working people, and I have met several of them, many whom have lived here for many years. The rooms are liveable and you can arrange to bring your own furniture in if you are a long-term tenant. You are not stuck with the cheap basic furniture that comes with a $ 25-$ 30 a night room.(That rate is not always available of course – don’t quote me on it). The sheets are clean and the towels are basic. Best to bring your own towels definitely – and toilet paper, and soap. If you are used to luxury you will just be disappointed and whine, but this is a GREATROOM for the price – and if you stay for a few months or longer you should have your own furniture, towels, and shower curtain anyway. My room had french doors and a great view of the grassy mini-park. Speaking of parking, this is one of the BEST things about this place. There is ALWAYS safe parking. No theft, no cars running into yours, and well lit. There is ALWAYS parking, unlike many areas I have lived. Even when Hillcrest has parades and walks and other wonderful events that block off the street and cause parking hell, you can always find a place to park here. So, bottom line: How much do you want to spend? $ 400-$ 500 a week? You will get a mediocre room somewhere. $ 300-$ 400 a night? Try downtown. There are several nice places. But if you want a clean room and save a LOT of money – and you want to AVOID those disease infested flop houses downtown(I made the mistake of going there once – once) then this is a decent hotel. Yes, free wifi, a refrigerator and a TV in every room and a microwave downstairs. Seriously though, expect 1930’s era shabby chic if you come here. The place grows on you. The staff gets a LOT friendlier the more you see them. At first they seem a little stand offish. Tell Angie or Melco that I sent you.

If you are high maintenance don’t come here, My first impression Creepy kinda of hotel you see people get killed in movies but By vampires. This place has a very classic old school feel too it The rooms look like a New York(room for rent) The room stinks bad ! I went out to a local Walmart and got a room spray And candles luckily that resolved the bad smell for good! If you get a room that smells like berries I was there lol No a/c but this was not even an issue, it’s cold out side and it stays Cool in the room. The bed has a plastic cover on it so every time you move You hear the plastic which I found annoying The bed sinks in its not the most comfy in the world but It’ll do the job There’s wifi :) Tv /I got to watch The walking dead on Sunday So I can’t complain about the tv Although its not bad has all your basic channels and its a flat screen tv The bathroom absolutely creepy not your usual toilet Looks like something from the 50“s This place is cheap 225 a week you get what you pay for But I gotta say I didn’t get a vibe that I was in a bad area Balboa park is in walking distance, everyone that I came across In the hotel was really friendly so it’s not a bad environment kinda of place It’s just a really old hotel that luckily fits your budget
