Hotel is an updated boutique. Room & bathroom look nice and the kitchen was useful.
Why 2 stars? As soon as I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted by the concierge with an invitation to attend a Wyndham timeshare presentation.
Long story short, I agreed to the presentation because I was offered 2 gifts. Fast forward to when I’m receiving the gifts, one wasn’t what was promised.
Bottom line, don’t be persuaded by these offers. It will waste your time… unless you are in the market to purchase a timeshare. Go to the hotel for the room!

If you’re into the cosmopolitan lifestyle, you’ll enjoy The Inn at the Park. Located across the street from Balboa Park and snuggled in a bustling neighborhood complete with historical buildings, chic apartment complexes with attached salons/​shops, and a variety of restaurants — everything you might need is within walking distance. It’s location can be likened to a boutique hotel one might find across the street from New York’s Central Park — it has that flair and feel.
The attentive staff was full of smiles and assistance — especially the valet who got our bags and delivered them up to our room — tip these guys well! Definitely spend the $ 15 to valet park, it’s well worth it! The room we stayed in had a very chic-​retro vibe, with lots of windows, mirrors, closet space, furniture, and cool artwork. And the bed was solid too — a good night’s sleep was easy with a couple noise-​cancelling earplugs since we had the 5^th Ave. corner room. My girlfriend and I felt the rooms toward the center of the building would not be affected by the traffic as much, but it’s all how you look at things — half empty or half full. All-​in-​all it was an enjoyable stay — I would love to come back.

The service at this hotel was AWFUL. We arrived to check in at 2 PM to be told our room wasn’t ready and they were «just finishing up one last thing.» We thought «OK, great,» and went out for lunch and a long walk. We came back two hours later, at 4 PM and inquired about our room, only to receive the exact same response: it was“almost ready” and they were «just finishing up one last thing.» We didn’t receive room keys for another 30 minutes — by then it was almost 5 PM!

Inn at the Park is a great place to stay in San Diego. The location is prime for getting around the city and you can easily stroll right into the park or up the hill to Hillcrest.
The building itself has a ton of character. The rooms are old flats outfitted with modern fixtures and appliances. It’s really a good place for a short or even extended stay. I much prefer an old building with character and history over a modern, generic hotel or motel.
The downsides, as such, are few. There is an aroma, inescapable, of something like febreeze that permeates the entire building. It’s a chemically, artificial odor that I think may be trying to mask what would be the normal, musty old building smell. It’s not a great smell. Front desk service was inconsistent: some people were terrific, some were less than okay. That’s the nature of the game and not horrible.
I’ll probably stay here again next time business takes me to San Diego.

Stear clear of the concierge as she was a hard core timeshare person who didn’t really give any tips for food or activities. Other than that the rest of the staff was very nice and helpful. The rooftop view was awesome! Brought our own music and a blanket to watch the sunset. Kitchenette was nice with a cooktop too. We stopped at Trader Joe’s in Hillcrest on our way to pick up munchies. Nicely located to many fun things. We found free parking across the street and brought our bikes that they let us keep in the room. Biked throughout Balboa Park with ease on a beautiful day and watched the performers and enjoyed the botanical building.

We stayed 3 days for our anniversary when we arrived the lady in the front desk was very friendly, then we received our room it was great, very clean pretty new I lived it, we definitely come back to this hotel everything was perfect and the staff is wonderful

Overall the hotel is very nice. We loved the kitchenette option although we didn’t end up using it. It’s nice to have a reasonably sized fridge and closet so you feel more at home. Check in was easy and quick, valet was friendly and calling for a taxi was easy too. The hotel is very close to good food and Balboa Park.
There were multiple issues with the air conditioning, we had intermittent air conditioning for two days before we were moved. The hotel did move all of our stuff for us, but in unseasonably warm weather… Not so great. We walked a lot the first few days so it was hard coming back to a sticky room.
If you don’t mind the sales pitch, you can listen to a two hour presentation on becoming an owner. We didn’t mind it and it wasn’t high pressure.
This was a great deal for us, we didn’t mind the noise from the planes or sirens because we weren’t at the hotel very often. Yes, the walls are thin and once two screaming children ran down the hallway at 6:30 am. Luckily, we were awake already. The elevator is sometimes slow. But if you’re looking for a bargain close enough to downtown to walk, and don’t mind that nothing is perfect, go for it!

My friend has a timeshare here and I stayed here for 1 of the nights. This place is super cute, quaint and charming. There is lots of FREE street parking in the area, so be sure to try to look before paying for valet. The Inn is right across the street from Balboa Park, which is great for out of town San Diegans to walk to. Upon check in, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Don’t be alarmed with the musty smell in the halls. This building is very old and historic. Once you get into your room, the smell disappears. We had a 1 bedroom/​bathroom suite with living room, full kitchen and balcony. Evidently, this place was just remodeled and they did a really good job fixing up this place. Everything was so pristine and clean!
I ended up falling asleep on the sofa couch, which was huge!!! There are 2 double beds in the sofa couch and they were soooo comfy. Perhaps no one has slept in it before and I had the most relaxing sleep! The pillows were so soft and comfortable as well. AHHHH!!!
Full kitchen and amenities included. Definitely a great place to stay, especially with so many great restaurants and eateries in the area!

A wonderful place to stay right across the street from a nice children’s playground at Balboa Park. Last time, we stayed in a studio and this time, a one bedroom. They were about the same for me but my husband likes the layout of the 1 bedroom better and it is slightly bigger. There is a great looking long couch and the room is nicely furnished. I like that it is walking distance from Balboa Park and from some good restaurants. Valet parking is a bit on the pricey side at $ 15 per night for overnight guests. There is sometimes street parking, but we didn’t want to deal with it and just paid the valet cost. We enjoyed our stay here. I would recommend trying this place out especially for anyone going to San Diego Zoo or Balboa Park since it is so conveniently close and you could even walk there. The rooftop lounge has good views and is a great hang out for guests.

This is my second time staying here and I love it!!!
They have finished construction and the rooms look amazing now. The décor is very modern. We rented a one bedroom. The living room is HUGE! The kitchen is smaller than what I expected but it’s nice since I was only staying there for a few days. The bedroom has a king size bed and had 2 closets though out the room.
Not too many cons but I do have some:
Kitchen has no oven
Wifi was free for us but was only working in certain spots in our room
Parking is 15 dollars a day (we were lucky and found parking on the street the whole time)
THERE WAS A HUGE WINDOW IN OUR SHOWER???
Pros:
Location!!! Basically in the middle of everywhere, we went to petco park, San Diego zoo, and la jolla and nothing was more than a 15 minute drive
Tons of restaurants around! You can walk basically everywhere
Front desk and maid service was amazing
Extremely quiet hotel because from 10pm-​8am, they prohibit loud noises
5 stars for me since the cons were not too bad to make a dent in my vacation.

This is a nice place to stay right near downtown. The facility has been completely renovated and it is very modern now. The rooms are a bit small since they refurbished an historical building but very nice and up to date. The parking can be a little tricky so watch out for that and I wouldn’t pay the $ 15 for valet… there is enough parking around to make it a quick walk. Plenty of places to eat nearby and easy access to the freeway.

Stayed the week here with my family while we played tourists in San Diego. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is attentive, friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed the free wine tasting on the roof top, the breakfast burritos, and the movie rentals. However, if we had one thing to add it would be a spa on the roof. Overall the hotel exceeded expectations and is in a great location to see everything.

Recently stayed here for two nights during my visit to San Diego and loved it. The place is a gorgeous little boutique hotel. The room had a kitchen equipped with everything you can think of that you might need and a dining room table, perfect for two. It was very convenient.
The bed was really great as well. I slept comfortably the two nights I was there.
I need to give Forest, our amazing valet guy a lot of credit here. We were in and out of the hotel a lot, and he never looked annoyed with us. In fact, he always had a smile on his face and a great attitude. He gave us some great recommendations of places to visit while we were in town too. Thanks Forest! Hope to see you again soon!
The only complaint I have about this place, and why I took away a star, is because the second we checked in, they tried to sell us a timeshare. I haven’t even walked up to my room yet and I have the lady yapping my ear off about how they’ll gift me money or vacations for my time at a meeting. These people need to realize that I’m on vacation, I have places to visit and things to do. I don’t want to go to a meeting.
Other than that, this place is definitely worth staying at. It’s beautiful and conveniently located. I’m looking forward to my next stay here.

I will start off by saying this is one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed at. But, that’s where it ends. The staff are rude and they scam you into looking at timeshares. We couldn’t even get out of the lobby without being pushed into going to a breakfast to get information. They said it was a free breakfast but then charged us $ 20 and said it was refundable. Well, after trying to get our $ 20 back for hours we finally gave up. Ana and Brittany are very deceitful. I wouldn’t trust a thing they say to you.
On to the room… the room was BEAUTIFUL! One bedroom, living room and kitchen. Furnished beautifully. Had huge walk-​in closets, big screen tv, colors of the room were very relaxing. The only issue with the room was hearing Jets fly overhead every 20 minutes.

Came here with my husband on a timeshare for our 1 year anniversary. We stayed in a King Studio Suite which included a kitchen, living, bath, and King bed. We loved how everything is updated with a more Art Deco feel to it, but still keeping the 1920s charm. Because we came on a timeshare, we were allowed the 7^th floor with roof top views and amenities. Stunning! Loved it!
We loved how there was valet parking where we pay each night but can come and go as we please. We also liked how it was close to Balboa Park and we could walk there.
The staff is friendly and helpful. When we got their we were given little treats and maps of the area with suggestions and tips. The lady who was helping us was really knowledgeable of the area. Overall, we loved our stay and would come back again!

This was a fun quirky little hotel!!! I think the rooms used to be small apartments (assuming… And you know what that means) out queen non smoking room had a full kitchen, bathroom and walk in closet. All the architecture was very vintage! You could tell this place had soul! The staff is very polite and knowledgable! The location is to die for! You are up the road from the gas lamp, and across the street from balboa! Every time we went thru the lobby, they had a different flower arrangement! (Nice touch!!) we will be staying here again!!! We loved every second of it!

We are timeshare owners and stayed at the Inn at the Park as such. I have on idea what the experience would be like for someone who rented a room on a travel website.
Our most recent visit to Inn at the Park (early January 2015) was our second one. We had previously been there three years ago while they were starting their renovations. At the time, we stayed in a non-​renovated room that was ok, but we really enjoyed the location and other amenities they had at the time, like a free continental breakfast.
We chose to use some of our points to stay here for a long weekend with our kids. We were excited to see the new remodel and had remembered the free continental breakfast. We were very disappointed to find out that they no longer offer the breakfast, but fortunately there are dozens of inexpensive options within a half mile (easy walking distance).
When we arrived, we found a very close spot and opted to not spend the $ 15/​day on valet parking. Check in went pretty smoothly although I was really disappointed with the concierge pressuring us to sign up for an owner’s update meeting. We were using our accrued points to go on a rare family vacation and the first thing they do is try to take away from our family time for a $ 75 Amex gift card? No thank you. I will be happy to go to an owner’s update on their time, not mine. The concierge, however, was able to help us get advanced purchase tickets for the zoo for that afternoon/​evening. We did discover throughout the weekend, though, they weren’t as well informed as concierges usually are. Oh well, it’s a timeshare, not the W.
Our room was beautiful. It was actually more of a small apartment with a good size living room, small kitchen and eating area, modest (but remodeled) bathroom, THREE closets, and a bedroom with king size bed. The room was decorated beautifully (the gray and purple décor in the photos is accurate). The living room windows had cool electric shades with pictures on them. In fact, we didn’t even realize they were window shades at first. There was also a very long sofa that had two twin-​size pullout beds for our children (perfect since they hate sharing a bed). The kitchen had all the necessary utensils for preparing basic meals, which we would have taken more advantage of if we had been there longer. There was also salt and pepper, microwave popcorn, coffee and filters, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. There is also a really great rooftop deck with tables, chairs, lounges, etc. to hang out on and it has a pretty amazing view.
The two big drawbacks for us were that the bathroom only had a shower, no tub. Not ideal for small children who still need their parents to bathe them. Unfortunately for us, this meant our four year old didn’t have a real bath all weekend. There are also no black out (or even solid) shades in the bedroom, just blinds, which did very little to block out the morning sunlight.
The neighborhood had improved quite a bit since our previous trip. We were very excited about the vast amount of shops ¼ to ½ mile walking distance away, as well as Balboa Park. We (our children included) easily walked throughout Balboa Park to see the museums and zoo, down 6^th to the Whole Foods on University, to Hash House A Go Go for breakfast, and to the shops on 5^th/​University. Anyone who complains that it’s not near anything probably doesn’t walk at all.
All in all, even with the little disappointments, we had a great trip and plan to go back again sometime.

You can see that the owners have taken great care to add modern décor and embellishments to this exquisite property. It’s beautiful. The room was very nice. The electric draw shade that doubles as a beautiful picture, ws impressive. I’ve taken pictures of the property which are included to give you an idea of the visible aspects of the property. Now onto the features of the property not so appealing.
Plan to pay for parking. Valet parking per night $ 15, as of last month when we checked in to this hotel. If you would like to catch a bite to eat, forget using your car. Once you drive off the lot a new fee of $ 15 for valet incurs. The valet service is a third party and Separate from the hotel. If you are fortunate to find parking on the street, great, that is until a certain time when you must feed the meters. So be careful.
Take away:
Great staff. Great looking property, but parking is NOT a desirable feature of this property. It’s an aspect they should take a serious look at. If a guest must leave the hotel to go get something to eat, they should be accommodated with a pass that includes their entire check in to checkout time for the $ 15 valet fee.

Came here with the wifey for our wedding anniversary. Since we couldn’t be away from the children too long, we settled on San Diego. First time staying at the Inn at the Park– we had been excited since we first heard of the renovations back in 2011. We’re Shell Vacation owners and we were impressed with the décor and the staff.
Good: DECOR. Almost as if I’ve stepped back into time with a modern touch. The rooms are spacious! Love the automatic window shades! The kitchen is quaint with the kitchen table big enough for two. The room is somewhat small but who cares — it’s only to sleep in. We enjoyed the walk-​in closet outside of the room to dress in or use as an additional space to get ready outside of the bathroom since the bathroom is on the small side as well. Other than that, we loved our room!
Areas for Improvement: I didn’t want to say bad since it wasn’t horrible and I’m not one to complain over the little things but the hallways can use a definite upgrade. It doesn’t match the rooms. They were somewhat reminiscent of the hotel in the movie, «The Shining». I was waiting for those creepy twins at the end of the hallway.
Another thing: The rooftop wasn’t open– boo.
