History

Established in 1987.

The time-​honored approach of acupuncture and herbal therapy make up the foundation of our success. Our husband and wife team consisting of myself, Mark Kastner, L.Ac., and my loving wife, Marie Kastner, L.Ac., have provided natural solutions to thousands of people over the last 20+ years who are challenged with chronic medical conditions. We believe that Eastern and Western medicine compliment each other and can be integrated to offer optimal health care.

We met while studying Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China and completed our degrees in San Diego, California. Both Marie and I are acupuncturists and herbalists licensed by the California State Board, and have been in private practice since 1987.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Mark and Marie are superb therapists. Mark has been treating my husbands knees for three months — he couldn’t walk — and now is almost normal! Marie has also contributed to this amazing recovery. Victoria is extremely helpful and efficient — a pleasure to talk to. She was tenacious and got the treatments covered by insurance and a co-​pay.
Definitely consider acupuncture with Mark or Marie — a fabulous alternative to invasive surgery for joint issues.

«Antennae for healing» Mark Kastner is a natural healer. I came to Mark decades ago from an auto accident with a fear of the needles, Mark helped me through it and put on my big-​boy pants and the results were undeniable. That was twenty years ago. This is not fast-​food medicine, it is a time to disconnect, check-​in with yourself for an hour of therapy.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! There isn’t a better place for acupuncture and wellness! I am a personal trainer and yoga instructor and have been seeing Marie for about 6 years. Her attention to my needs is always at 100% and the treatments as well. I love the extra modalties she does — hot packs, moxa, guasha, jade rollers, etc. I always feel a heightened sense of well-​being when I leave here which tells me this is what one is supposed to feel like!
I will see Marie at the first signs of a cold and she does wonders to decrease my symptoms and shorten the duration. I’m always surprised that people don’t think of acupuncture to treat colds or flu. I really don’t go to a doctor other then the necessary visits — my primary is Marie at Circle of Living! I’m also grateful that they take my insurance and deal with the billing process easily. Not all acupuncturists do.
Marie is excellent at what she does and very nurturing — just what you want when you don’t feel well. For overall well-​being, acupuncture here is the BEST!

Awesome. I love it here. I’ve been a patient at Circle of Living for about 8 years. They always take incredible care of me. The atmosphere is ideal for acupuncture: quiet, comfortable, serene. They play the most soothing music that helps me unwind. Both Mark and Marie Kastner are wonderful acupuncturists. I am a patient of Marie Kastner. She treats multiple conditions that I have, and always has a kind and listening ear to my issues. First, I get the needles (which never hurt oh by the way), then hot packs, then a back massage, then more needles. The whole thing is more relaxing than any spa treatment I’ve ever had, and it’s truly therapeutic. I leave feeling more relaxed and more energized, which is a great combination.
I also do the acupuncture facial rejuvenation, which has really helped my older skin. I glow!

I love, love, love, love this place! Dr. Kastner works magic on my ailments. I’m always coming in with one thing or another, usually having to do with my shoulders and it never fails to work! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for reliable alternatives to western medicine, I promise you won’t regret it! I also noticed that some of the great reviews only have 4 stars, looks like that was a mistake! ;) See you guys next time I’m in pain! :) Love ya!

When my office began offering ASHP insurance about 6 or 7 years ago, several of my coworkers began going to see Marie for acupuncture and raved about it. I wasn’t too keen on the idea of needles fixing my pain (although I did love tattooing) and stayed clear until I had a bad back injury 5 years ago. I gave it a try and was absolutely amazed at how relaxing and wonderful the treatment was. I have been going to see Marie every since. If I feel pain or aches anywhere, I go a few times a month. If I’m not in pain, I still go every month or two for a treatment. An hour away from the office, away from the family, no phone or computer to interrupt, soft relaxing music, wonderful smells, pain relief, massage and warmth? Yes, please.

Mark Kastner has been our acupuncturist for over six months now. He’s done wonders for both myself and my partner, greatly reducing pain and inflammation associated with tendinitis. The environment at Circle Of Living is very relaxing and the service personal. Mark and his assistants are all talented at massage and very knowledgeable when it comes to effective, off-​the-​beaten-​path treatments. Mark is also quite a good author, and reading his book ‘Closing the Circle’ out loud to one another (per his request) has brought us closer together. Check out the book and the acupuncture. I am a professional yoga therapist/​massage therapist. I have also studied acupuncture. Mark and his wife Marie have been my acupuncturists since 1989! They are an awesome team who treat orthopedic problems, disease, and women’s problems. Mark Kastner is the «doctor’s» acupuncturist! I met an orthopedic doctor in his office. I also met one of the LAKERS basketball team there! I HIGHLY recommend these two for their expertise and depth of knowledge. They will get you WELL!

Marie is very good to me. She and her staff welcome you as you walk in the door and I feel like we continue our conversations right where we left off the previous week. I’ve been treated for a sleep disorder and misc pain here and there and have seen/​felt results. This was my first exposure to Acupuncture; I’m now a strong believer and advocate of natural/​holistic treatments. I’ve never felt uncomfortable, always educated on the process/​ailment and Marie listens and responds. The 15 min. massage is a bonus by the local students. Amanda is a pleasant, personable and friendly greeter on and off the phone. The office is clean, airy, simple décor, pleasant, including the music that if you go often enough, you start to memorize the tunes. Yes, I’ve snoozed a bit while under treatment. Insurance pays for most of my treatment and I started visiting twice a week, now down to once a week and considering going bi-​monthly. They have a flexible schedule and are open on Saturday mornings. Parking can be tough in Univ. Heights, but not a big deal.

Marie has treated me for migraines, neck and shoulder pain and muscle tension and a hip injury from a yoga workout over the last few years. I have no doubt that her treatments have sped up my recovery time and thus reduced my discomfort level. She and her husband, the other half of the pratice, trained in China and have great knowledge of both Eastern medicine (including herbs) as well as modern day physiology. With regard to the atmosphere, it is clean (almost asceptic which I greatly appreciate for a needling clinic), and inviting with soft music and its comfortable temperature. Last but not least, they really listen to your symptoms. The staff is also really helpful — like with insurance policy inquiries — which is an added plus.

I have been going to Marie and Mark for over 20 years! I am always astounded by how good I feel after a treatment. When I had chemotherapy 10 years ago treatments really saved me! Caught a really bad cold and couldn’t get rid of the cough, and am much better after just one treatment. They truly love what they do. And I am pretty certain that they use disposable needles always.

Amazinngg! My family has been going here since I was 6. I have had every health problem solved by them. From infections to neck pain. I at what one point had a such a low immune system I was getting infection after infection but after a couple of months of going to them I was completely better. it’s amazing!

i had intense back pain and found them online. Through my insurance I was able to get a small discount — so that was nice. While working on my back Mr. Kastner kept saying how he was hitting the right spot and that he KNEW just what to do. honestly I was doubtful. I left and the pain and several dollars poorer. however, the next day *poof* pain was gone and I felt terrific.
He was totally right and I would totally go back.

I had a few accupuncture treatments here for allergies and stress. The business is run by a husband and wife team who obviously love what they do for a living and have travelled to China to study the art (is it a science?) of accupuncture. They have students from local holistic schools training in the office, so it is a learning environment. they don’t push products on you, and have suggested herbs to check out that can be purchased at Henry’s or Whole Foods.
They attached the needles to some sort of device that causes the needles to vibrate, thus relieving the tension. The warm heating pads and the massage after treatment are sooooo good.
Funny thing, I walked in one day after they were sterilizing the accupunture needles and thought «wow it smells like pot in here». They had a sign on the counter that explained that the smell was actually another herb used for that purpose.
I stopped going because my insurance was not covering as much as I thought it would, but it is worth it for short term treatments too.
