Chase Plumbing and Drain Cleaning

I called Christian yesterday (Friday) after noticing water pooling around our back yard drain after the rain last week. Surprisingly, he answered the phone! Fancy that, a plumber who answers their own phone — while he was doing another job, no less! I explained that I saw the pool of water, as well as water only trickling out of the curbside opening. (That’s when the dreaded, «Oh boy! Roots in the drain pipe!», hits you like a 2×4 in the head.) I did go to Home Depot and buy a drain auger, which was one step above dental floss, so I did attempt the fix before calling an expert.
Christian gave me an honest estimate, and after calling the usual, «2 other estimates», I called him right back and asked when we could begin the fun! When he said «tomorrow morning,» I felt like I hit the lottery. I texted him my address and he replied with a time for this morning. I got another text message this morning when he had his arrival time down to the minute. (After I picked myself up off the floor after collapsing when he confirmed his arrival time, I immediately decided to give him 10 stars just for his communication skills.)
Christian arrived on time and was very professional asking a neighbor who parked in front of the work area to move his vehicle. The auger came out, the hose came out, the shovel came out, and work began. It took him about 10 minutes to figure out where the logjam in the drain pipe was. After digging down to the drain pipe, we discovered that lovely corrugated drain pipe that new housing developments use during construction. Mine looked like an 18-​wheeler parked on it overnight. I’d say it was almost flat, but the mud packed inside the drain kept it reasonably egg-​shaped. Ugh.
To begin with, my yard is densely planted, and I have plants in bloom right now. Translation: not a lot of room to maneuver in, and lots of things that could be ruined. Christian worked around my plants, and mud piles were placed on plastic sheets with NOTHING spilling over into my neighbor’s yard. It was a tidy job and his respect for my property was «old school.» Another gold star.
It was determined that a 32″ length of flattened (that image still sticks with me) drain pipe needed to be replaced. A strong PVC pipe was used and inserted into each round opening of existing pipe. The water was run from the back yard, through 100 ft. of drain pipe, and flowed out the opening at the curb. Another gold star!
Christian had the patience of a saint, which is so important for plumbing jobs. I have so often heard through the years that «you never know until you get in there» how much damage or works actually needs to be done. His energy level at the END of the job was as high as it was when he STARTED hours before.
In closing, while patience is a virtue, honesty and workmanship are also huge factors in costly repairs. His attention to detail was evident as he carefully measured and was precise with the final connections and testing. He was respectful towards me and my property. I have a tendency to buzz around people who work at our house like that gnat that flies over your head in the summer while you’re trying to work in your yard. I do try to learn as much as I can from experts who come here, and he never made me feel like I was in his way. I ask a lot of questions and he was very thorough and honest with his answers.
No, I’m not related to Christian and I’m not giving him a familial-​biased review — he is a hard worker, is a craftsman, and his sense of humor makes an awful, muddy, job, bearable for us. If you have plumbing issues — ever — this is your guy! What a blessing!

Professional quick drain service at a reasonable price. Christian worked with my schedule and was prompt. After arriving, he assessed the problem and cleared the drain efficiently without making a big mess. This is one plumber whose card I’ll keep.

Woke up to a big old nasty flood in the garage/​laundry area on a Friday. Thinking it was a clog, went and got the old liquid plumber. Glub, glub… let stand over night. Next day bigger flood. Why, that’s suspicious. Had my wife run a couple faucets on the other side of the house. They run on a different pipe to the street and TP comes bubble’n up in the laundry sink! Yikes! The clogged is at the street! Called Christian from Chase Plumbing and he showed up about an hour later. Nice, down to earth man. Kinda have to be if your routing thru other people ‘stuff’. Well, I had 99% of the plumbing redone years ago, so I knew we had a root problem or broken pipe in the street. When I did the re-​pipe, I had them put a clean out right at the street. It has a screw cap with a weep hole. You could tell that there was a lot of pressure on the cap by how much water was spraying out the weep hole. Did that stop Christian? Heck no! He gently unscrews the cap and pow! A geyser shoots 3 feet in the air. When the dust settled, it was down to work. Watching Christian battle the roots was like watching Spencer Tracy in «The Old Man and the Sea», battling the marlin. After 3 hours of chewing thru roots, Christian ended pulling out nearly 10 feet of fine roots and other ‘organic’ matter from the pipes. Whew! Needless to say, Christian did a fantastic job and did not quit until he was satisfied that ALL of the roots where removed. Major Kudos to Christian and Chase Plumbing!

Christian came out on a Friday in the rain to snake out the main drain from our home to the street. He was prompt, courteous, professional, and affordable. I would highly recommend Chase Plumbing and Drain Cleaning for any of your home plumbing and drain needs.

Christian came to repair a shower valve on Easter Sunday, he was able to quickly fix the plumbing issue without having to shut off the water, we live in a condo and that would have been a disaster having to shut off the water to about 30 units. He did a great job and very reasonable price– Call Christian for your plumbing needs.

My fiancé and I had just moved to the area and had been renting our apartment for less than 3 weeks before the kitchen sink backed up. I thought it was strange because we hadn’t used the sink much aside from washing vegetables but we never put any food or grease down the sink that would clog it up. I consider myself somewhat handy so I got underneath the sink and took apart the piping figuring I’d find the clog in the u-​trap from the previous tenant.
It wasn’t the u-​trap that was clogged, but it was much worse. The copper drain in the wall that the sink piping flowed out to was completely backed up with a solid wall of thick black sludge. I’ve never seen a drain this bad before. I tried clearing it out myself but it was so thick almost like hardened black mud and I couldn’t tell how far back it went.
We needed a professional’s tools and expertise for this so I looked for nearby plumbers on Google maps and made several calls for appraisals with varied responses from «sorry, we can’t help you with something that bad» to «okay, we’ll call you back and send someone out» and they never did. Others didn’t inspire confidence when talking to them on the phone.
When I called up Chase Family Plumbing («I found them under the name Poway Plumbing and Drain Cleaning»), the owner, Christian Chase, let me explain our problem and, in turn, he explained how he would clear out our drain with a motorized snake and hydro-​jetting and how they worked. I didn’t see any online reviews for him but talking with him on the phone was enough to try him; I’m really glad I did.
Despite it being Sunday afternoon, Chase was out here in 20 or 25 minutes to examine what he said was the kind of bad blockage he only sees about twice a year. He ran the snake through the wall drain through about 2 – 3 feet of sludge. It was really bad. After clearing a bunch of it out, he reattached the pipes and turned on the sink to run hot water through it to see if he could save me money and clear it without needing to hydro jet it which would cost more but I was expecting we’d need it since it was bad.
Well, the water pressure from the sink faucet had been abysmal since we moved in but he went and fixed that at no charge! There was a filter up inside the faucet that was dirty and blocked up giving us only about ½ power. After he cleaned the filter, he ran hot water down the drain to clear the sludge and see if it was draining okay. He was a really friendly guy and as we waited to see how well the pipes drained, we talked about cars, phones, and his kids.
After about 10 minutes running hot water through it it seemed that our drain problem was a problem no more and, on top of that, our sink faucet water pressure was fixed.
I told him that we had recently started renting and hadn’t put any food down the sink before we discovered the blockage. He concurred and asked us if our property management would pay for it? Drain clogs are the responsibility of the tenants I guess.
He felt bad for us since this wasn’t our fault but rather the previous tenants so he only charged us $ 125 for the snaking (other places quoted me $ 145) and gave us a receipt with a written note explaining how there is no way that we could have caused the blockage in the short time we’ve been here to try to convince the property manager to refund us. I won’t be surprised if they don’t refund us even though it’s not our fault but I really do appreciate Christian trying to help us out. I gave him an extra tip because I believe in rewarding exceptional work and also he did fix our faucet which was really bugging my fiancé.
I can’t recommend this guy enough. Genuine, honest guys like him are few and far between. Best plumbing, or really any service experience we’ve had.
