TownePlace Suites San Antonio Downtown

The hotel advertises that they offer Evening reception from Tuesday to Thursday. We called before booking and confirmed. We confirmed when we got on site and we confirmed again next day. TO OUR SURPRISE, the hotel suddenly stopped offering the amenity and the GM didn’t care about our repeat business and told us they would not do anything to accommodate. This is extremely disturbing and will definitely impact our loyalty to Marriott… The staff could have handled this much more politely but they just didn’t care… such small amenities can mean a lot to business travelers on hectic work days… Oh well, I will take my business somewhere else.

I really enjoyed this TownePlace Suites except for one possibly sneaky charge.
The location to Riverwalk is awesome only two blocks. The rooms very clean, breakfast bar wonderful, employees except for the 2 a.m. dude very pleasant. The 2 a.m. dude gave me no info just said I was late and checked me in. Not rude just tired I guess and no information.
The thing that I felt was sneaky is the $ 29 a day valet parking charge. Upon check out I was handed a bill for $ 94 and change for valet parking. The workers in the valet are over the top accommodating and I tipped accordingly.
I was not informed upon reservations nor check in of this daily charge. According to the person I spoke to in valet, after I received the bill, there is no self parking. You have no choice to self park in downtown San Antonio. Upon check in I inquired where I could self park and the 2 a.m. dude said I will take care of it we have Valet. The valet is a very nice service but I feel the price is too high especially when you had no idea you were being charged until the end when they handed me a bill upon checkout. I am giving a good review because everything else about the experience was great.

I would love to stay here again. The room was great and the staff were really welcoming. The friendly receptionist gave me good recommendations for San Antonio bbq options. Also, Becky in particular was exceptionally friendly. Our paths only crossed for a couple of minutes but she might have been the nicest person I have ever met.

This is a lovely hotel. It has the 2 things that are important for a good stay a great bed and a great shower. The décor is beautiful, modern but warm. They are pet friendly which is a big deal for us. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic 2 blocks from the Alamo and 2 blocks from the Riverwalk. I would have given the hotel 5 stars if the in-​room coffee was better and if the free breakfast was worth staying in for. That said, I’m a bit of a local diner breakfast snob. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice hotel, nice employees, love the clear glass staircase going down. From the moment we walked in the hotel’s décor was outstanding. Everything looks modern and contemporary and the again did I mention the clear staircase?! amazing!
Their rooms are clean too, however when we checked in (late post — October), they told us that had a small fire on the top floor, which prompted them to close the top 2 floors, but our room still smelled like smoke and I could not breathe, started coughing as soon as I walked in. The employees were very nice and rushed to change our rooms and made sure our next room was smoke/​smell free. They even gave us a cute mini bag filled with goodies like popcorn and treats for the inconvenience, which was very nice of them. Thank you!
Breakfast was standard complimentary, wish they had potatoes as a side. Overall a good place to stop on your road trip or visit to the Riverwalk. The hotel is walking distance to a lot of things to do and see, which was great!

Huge improvement from last week!
The family and I stayed for an extended period of time through Independence Day Weekend and I must say the management really improved the flow of that congested continental breakfast line.
It was HORRIBLE last weekend. Kids running wild and spilling waffle batter all over the self-​serve machines. There were no items stocked and the juice dispensers were dry.
There has been a complete 180 from last week. Signs are up to notify parents to supervise their children, attentive staff to restock consistently, and the breakfast room has been rearranged to accommodate guests better.

By far the best place we have stayed at! It is very nice and clean the people working here are so nice and down to earth all the rooms we have stayed in here all have a full kitchen with everything u will need nice huge walk in showers! If looking for a hotel to stay in downtown San Antonio I would highly recommend this place!!!

Couldnt have imagined a better place to have a room block for my wedding this past November. The per night price was great and my guest enjoyed the fact that they had a kitchenette, were really close to a bunch of «San Antonio» attractions and could get a free tasty breakfast every morning.
This hotel was a few blocks away from my reception venue and even closer to the Riverwalk.
They went above and beyond to assist me with things like passing out welcome bags, delivering the wedding bouquets to my room and informing me when the limo arrived.

Excellent location and clean, modern appearance. Rooms are compact, but are have everything you might need. The staff was friendly. Parking is expensive, but comparable to other hotels in the area.

I was very impressed with this hotel during my 3 night stay in the king bed room with a kitchenette. The plan was to stay somewhere very close to the river walk, and seemingly being the best bang for my buck on a Travelocity deal is what made this one stand out above the rest in the area.
Check in was a breeze, and there were no issues going through the middle-​man travel booking website. Our arrival was actually earlier than the designated check in time, but they said they already had the room ready and it was no issue to go ahead and get checked in. The people at the front, along with the entire rest of the staff, were all very pleasant and we were always greeted with a «welcome back» when we came back into the hotel. We didn’t have a car for the trip, so I can’t comment on the valet parking option or parking in the area in general. The location itself was exactly what we were hoping for. It just a short walk out the door to the river walk, and there were a ton of restaurants and bars around that area. It’s very close to the Alamo area, along with a few other major attractions in this part of the city. We also had easy access to a Walgreens for any needs there, and there are a couple different museums less than a block away. One of the many bike rental stations around town is located just outside the hotel, so if you want to use that method of transportation to get around town, it is very easy to both rent and return right at the hotel.
The room was great and very clean. Everything looked like new, and the kitchenette was nice to have. The kitchen area had a 2 burner stove, dishwasher, microwave, sink, coffee maker with coffee and tea, a supply of dishes and silverware, and a large refrigerator which came in handy for leftovers with the abundance of places to eat in the near vicinity. The bed was comfortable with lots of pillows, and there was a very large desk for a workspace. They had a large HDTV that was mounted to the wall so it could be pivoted around. We also had a couch and a small loveseat in the room. Our room was on the second floor and the window faced inwards toward the atrium, which is where the heated pool resides and didn’t make for much of a view. The room was actually right next to the elevator which brought up some concern in regards to the noise it might make, but we never heard it once. There is a significant amount of noise that comes into the room from the hallway, but that isn’t an issue unless the other guests cause it. There was a small closet with some clothes hangers, and a taller wardrobe to keep clothes. The bathroom was very clean, and the very large walk-​in shower was fantastic.
I love staying in hotels that offer complimentary breakfast both for the convenience and the value, and the one here is definitely above average. The breakfast space is kept clean and we always found a table to sit at each morning even when it was busy. They offer a lot of options for breakfast, and they changed each of the 3 mornings that we were here. The variety of toppings that was available for the oatmeal was unique and nice to have, and they had a lot of other hot items as well as fruit, dairy, and cereal. It would be nice if they kept the sound on the TVs in the eating area turned off so everyone wasn’t forced to listen to whatever channel they have on at the time, but that was my only complaint. We never made it to the pool, but I can say that people were in it when it was in the 40s outside, so they must keep it pretty warm. I also avoided the gym area for this vacation. The free wifi worked great was plenty fast enough to actually use.
This is definitely a hotel that I would recommend as being a great place to stay. I can’t compare it to anything in the area, but I don’t know of much that I would have recommended to make it a significantly better stay. The price that we found through a special deal on Travelocity made it on par or cheaper than a lot of the other hotels in the near vicinity that seemed comparable, so it is getting a 5 star rating for me based on that exceptional value. If I was booking at the standard price, I would still be very happy with it, but it would probably be a 4 star rating instead.

Great location! Stayed here while attending a conference at the convention center. It’s a very short walk from pretty much anywhere and the rooms are very spacious and clean.
I was pretty impressed by their gym as well. They have free weights, a bench, a bike, treadmills, and ellipticals. The gym itself is pretty small, but I worked out at 11 pm each night so I was the only one there.
The hotel also offers breakfast each morning, which is super convenient. Our room had a kitchen, which included a full sized refrigerator so, if you preferred to make your own food, you could certainly do so.
Would stay again.

Worse Hotel ever!!!
One star… because the cleaning staff was polite. Front desk staff was rude and incompetent; Male hotel manager was extremely rude. I had a major issue with my car… on my last night there (a Thursday) people checked in on both sides of me, were partying it up and I listened to doors slamming all night.
I will never stay there again. Ive had better service at a Best Western!

Just got back from a one night stay and this Marriott served its purpose. Upon a thorough inspection, found this to be very clean and no bed bugs. I’m a clean freak and do not ever want to experience pests so I go crazy checking sheets, every layer, lift mattresses, check furniture, etc. LOL! Great location-​we went to the Riverwalk and easily walked with young kids. Did not hear anyone else from inside our room. Nice skyline view. Valet was nice.
Only three complaints.
1. Valet parking messed with our radio and when we got into our car, extremely loud rap music was playing. Didn’t appreciate that at all. Please park my car, do not tamper with my stuff!
2. Our first day, both front desk personnel were not friendly and did not greet us in a friendly manner. We expect more from reception. Hasty in asking questions to us, did not offer good or any suggestions when we asked if there was anything we absolutely should do while visiting San Antonio. Blah service.
3. At breakfast did not appreciate TV channel being on a KKK documentary on Father’s Day and my husband being the only black man in the group. Was distasteful.
Rated 3 based on location, cleanliness, and quietness.

We had not stayed at TownPlace suites before mostly JW’s, Marriott’s, Residence Inns etc.
This is in a great location about a block from the riverwalk. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Including the valet and manager.
Hotel was clean and common areas were very accommodating.
We had a corner room with king bed and kitchenette and two TV’s.
I had heard that this is a pet friendly hotel and was concerned about a animal smell in the rooms. I spoke to the staff and they say they do not have any specific rooms that animals are not allowed in. They said they deep clean the rooms including the carpet after the animal leaves.
If our room had an animal in it I could not tell. Taking their word for it if they do a deep clean after pets then your room will probably be cleaning then the average hotel room.
Like I said I have not stayed at a TP before and was very impressed. Just a smaller version of a residence inn.
We did laundry while there. The machines worked and were clean. The room was clean too.
They do a breakfast and a managers mingle but we did not partake.

My parents and I stayed here on our vacation and it was a very nice hotel. It was kept fairly clean and the staff was very polite.
Just make sure when you are going to breakfast that you don’t come down even a second late. Breakfast closes at 9:30 and they literally are closing the doors at 9:30. And by 9:20 they are already starting to put stuff away.
The pool was a kind of small but it was still a nice little area.
The work out room was I’d say decent size for a hotel. It gave you variety and the equipment was all in very nice shape.
If you are looking to stay in down town San Antonio I would recommend staying here it was a very pleasant stay.

I have always preferred Marriott when I travel but this one did not live up to the reputation of the brand. There were good points but the bad really outweighed in my mind.
Good
The location is phenomenal with easy access to the Riverwalk and surrounding area. The hotel was affordable for my budget and offered the amenities I look for when booking. The front desk staff was extremely attentive and addressed most of the bad below. Breakfast is included and it’s quite the spread. Everything was clean and the rooms were quiet. Nothing is better than a hotel that you don’t hear your neighbors.
Bad
The maid service stole approximately $ 20 worth of quarters I had hid even though I left out tip money. The first room I had it rained inside because the windows leaked. I was there literally 5 minutes before this started. While this was attended to immediately and my room was switched I learned there is no onsite maintenance so if the hotel had been booked full I would have had to stay put with the rain. This might seem silly but the front door sensor doesn’t sense short people. Over the course of my stay I had to wave my arms and jump around at least 4 times. I am not that short and it was rather obnoxious. The bellman even said the door worked strange.
Overall I wouldn’t go back. I would check out the other Marriott options in the area.

My husband & I are fans of the Marriott chain of hotels. We try to stay at one whenever we travel. My husband 1^st stayed at this TownePlace Suites when he had to come to San Antonio (from Los Angeles) for a business conference in June 2012. He liked it enough to book it again when he had to come for a job interview later on that year. Again he had a very nice stay. Fast forward to April 2013, we found out my husband landed the job and we needed to relocate to San Antonio. We decided to stay at TownePlace for our one week of house hunting.
What we liked about TownePlace:
–LOCATION! Location! Location! Within walking distance to the Alamo Plaza, fine dining (Bohanan’s yum!), the River Walk, Tower of the Americas, and all the other tourist traps
–Clean rooms
–Friendly and attentive staff members
–Valet parking (even though it was $ 24/​night… price is comparable to other hotels in the downtown area)
–Complimentary full breakfast (with eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, pastries, fruits, etc)
–Pool & fitness center
–MILITARY DISCOUNTS!
Only gripe is that they park the cars outside. There were many times when we’d call for our car and the parking attendants would bring it to us covered in bird droppings. Of course they’d apologize and try to wipe off the windshield as much as possible so that we can see enough to use the car that day. When we’d return in the afternoon/​evening, they’d wash the car. But again it would happen. So be aware that $ 24 does not get you covered parking.

This hotel is modern, well-​appointed and close to the Alamo & Riverwalk. Plus, the staff is polite, attentive and quite knowledgeable about the area happenings.
The Free Breakfast here is AWESOME! Hot waffles, eggs, bacon/​sausage, oatmeal, milk (including chocolate), apple & orange juices, yogurt, cereal & granola bars! I love everything about this FREE breakfast. Only one thing could make it cometely magical for me… add a bowl of chocolate chips to throw into the self-​made waffles. [Ok, I really LOVE chocolate… even at breakfast, as a treat!] Breakfast hours: M-​F 0630 – 0930.
The hotel also provides FREE drinks and snacks M-​Th 1700 – 1900. It includes beer, wine and chips (or a related snack food). Pretty nice to have this benefit in addition to breakfast.
The hotel also offers complimentary wireles Internet access in your room. The code is provided upon check-​in. There are also two desktop computers and a printer in the lobby area, which are free to use for guests.
My room had cathedral ceilings, great amenities and really cool furniture. While it’s true that the usable space is a bit smaller than other area hotels, I didn’t find that to be an issue. Frankly, having an apartment-​sized fridge, sink, microwave, dishwasher, desk, bookshelves, and a large loveseat w/​a rolling ottoman, I was quite pleased.
I almost forgot to mention the really cool clock/​radio/​nature sound/​iPod/​iPhone music player! It’s called iHome. It was so very nice to have this amenity in my room. I’m actually planning to purchase one of these when I get home. Kudos, Town Place!
The bathroom boasted a large shower, enclosed in ceiling-​high glass. It was very modern and stylish. The sink was also quite large and included a huge drawer underneath.
My only criticism is the heating/​cooling unit. It’s located about 3-​feet from the bed and unless you can sleep through gale-​force winds at close range, you’ll likely want to just turn off the unit upon retiring for the evening.
I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends and peers! My stay was so wonderful, thanks to the great hotel and attentive, friendly staff!
