Sonterra Laser Med Spa

If I could rate this place no stars, I would. I went to this place because of a groupon offer I purchased and was very disappointed. The women who worked with me were very rude, abrupt and did not take their time with me. Not to mention, their policy for being late is completely irrational. If you are more than 15 minutes late for ANY reason, they will charge you a $ 25 fee and send you away with no work done even though they are located extremely far away from most of San Antonio and are located in a complex of buildings that all look exactly the same. Plan to spend 15 minutes alone trying to find it after you have «arrived.» I have only been there twice now and am regretting that I invested the money for six sessions… Once it is over I’m never going back and I advise you to just not waste your time. Very disappointed. I don’t even generally write reviews, but that’s just how disappointed I am!

I am an Italian. So needless to say, I have unruly dark hair that requires me to shave constantly. I had seen several Groupon discounts for Sonterra and, while always a bit hesitant in getting Groupon, decided to give it a try for their laser hair removal treatments.
I set up an appointment and, upon arriving, I instantly felt better. The office was new and clean, very zen like, and I was met with a friendly face. I only waited a couple of minutes and I was taken to the back. I spoke with Kerila and she was extremely friendly, explaining how the procedure works, what to be expected, etc.
I am pretty good when it comes to pain tolerance, so I wasn’t too concerned with the procedure, but Kerila was super sweet which made the whole process a lot better. The removal was for my underarms and while very thorough, it didn’t take as long as I thought it would (for some reason, I had this notion that it took an hour!). Some nice aloe vera was rubbed on and I was ready to go. I still have 3 more sessions, but I was overall impressed with how much they were able to get out on the first attempt. Like I said, I’m very hairy so I could immediately notice a difference!
It’s been a couple of days now and I have no swelling and the pain was more uncomfortable than it was hurting. Overall, I am very happy with the staff, procedure, and the ease of this process. I cannot wait to go back again so I can see less and less hair.

I am rather frustrated with this place. The clinic itself is nice and modern and the front desk staff is nice also.
I have gotten a few facials here and bought a laser hair removal groupon as well. I had 6 sessions of laser hair removal at a different spa and about 85% of the hair is gone for good, but I have a little bit of hair left and figured I’d try this place out. I have gone to 2 sessions at this point and feel very disappointed with the results. I have had laser hair removal done in most body areas elsewhere, including Spa Black here in San Antonio and McGrath in Austin with excellent results and after 6 sessions most of the hair being removed.
However, it seems that the machine they use here is outdated for one. It’s also extremely peculiar in that it pinches/​grabs the skin in a rather uncomfortable fashion. I bought the groupon here for a small area, which while I realize takes a short period of time, it certainly takes longer than the minimal timeframe the tech spent on me here at Sonterra. I went into the room with the tech and was out in under 5 minutes, including the discussion of my previous session, the placement of goggles, and placement of aloe vera post session. The tech did a few passes on each side, and I could certainly tell that she had missed several spots. I politely asked her if she had done a number of areas because I could tell that she hadn’t and she told me that she had, which was not the case. Not only could I see the hair still firmly in place when I got home, but the hair continued growing within days of the treatment, and I’ve had to shave several times since the treatment. In the two other spas I’ve gone to, weeks typically go by between treatments where I don’t have to shave, and the vast majority of the hair is gone. The little hair that I have left here is still there, even though I am a perfect candidate for laser — pale skin and dark hair. I am so frustrated with the experience that I have asked groupon for a refund of the unused sessions. It’s clear that I’m not going to get any results for the remainder of the hair I have left, so I’ll be going for another set of sessions at McGrath, where I have gotten great results.
It really bothered me that the tech just brushed off my concerns. Not only do I think that the machine is outdated but I also don’t think the tech, at least the tech that did my treatments, is thorough enough or cares enough about customer’s needs and concerns to get good results. I’m not surprised to hear that others did not have good experience with laser either.
I’ve also done 2 facials here — the first one was ok and the tech was nice. The second one the tech was serious and rather unpolite and the facial was rushed, non-​relaxing, not thorough, and the tech left me with a wet towel over my face for a good 10 minutes which was not pleasant.
I was hoping that I would like this place as it’s convenient and the atmosphere is nice. I’m glad that I did not buy a laser package at regular price here, because I would be highly frustrated if I did. I’ll certainly will not be going here for laser hair removal again.
While I may try some of their other services in the future if the price is right, I’m a lot less excited about coming here in general given the poor results.

I just had my eyelashes tinted and the technician was very gentle and really nice, the whole staff was. Can’t wait to try their other services. Tipping is optional– there is no pressure or guilt to leave one but should you choose to leave one bring cash or a check. Great experience

Wish I could give ZERO STARS for this grasping, greedy doctor only out to maximize patient spend. I had a serious complication from a routine injection of filler about six months ago and my face swelled up like a balloon! I had to call back SIX TIMES and threaten to see a specialist at their expense (complete with lawsuit), before the doctor would call me back. Imagine how scary it was to have your face swell up and you paid money for that! Oh, my, as long as they had my check they weren’t interested in following up, they told me I’d have to wait three weeks to come back in.
Finally, when I was able to see the doctor, he followed the issue and it eventually the swelling calmed down. Do you think they offered a refund? Oh, please! You’re making me laugh. Their concern for their patients is exactly NOTHING. This is reflected in the behavior of both the doctor and the staff.
Months later, (now a few weeks ago) I missed an appointment because I had a sudden death in my family. Today when I called, they demanded to charge me $ 25 for a missed appointment, not caring even that my sister just died suddenly and I missed the appointment because I was at a funeral! Of course, it WAS silly of me to think my personal dramas of death etc. are more important than «doctor“s revenue stream. I can’t believe I might have imagined a death of a loved would be of the slightest concern to any of them. Does concern their revenue? No? OK then let’s move on. «Sorry, If we excused you missing an appointment due to a death in the family, we’d have to excuse every other missed appointment. People die every day, ma’am.» WOW.
I recommend you go someplace else — any place else — and get a doctor who treats you like a human being — with understanding, responsiveness and compassion. Only go here if you’d rather be treated like a personal ATM.

This is the best laser spa in SA! I’ve been coming for most 2 years. I have purchased two groupons for very reasonable prices. The staff here is awesome and super friendly. My technician since day one has been Lettie and she is just phenomenal and very cautious about protecting my skin. She also did my prewedding facial which left me glowing all month! I have had to reschedule my appointments many times due to last minute events and the staff has always been extremely accommodating. It’s great that they have late evening hours as well as Saturday hours. Prices are some of the best in town but unlike other spas, they are MD affiliated. I’ve bought deals at other spas that were cheaper and always felt disappointed at their staff behavior or quality of the facility and just end up rigt back at Sonterra! Highly recommend!

Love the staff, the products, the services, but mostly the personal touch you get when you walk in the door.

This is my go to place for Botox. Blake’s the best … The staff is great … Everyone is accommodating and they have great deals. Get on the e-​mail list and get some of those specials. Blake fixed me when I got a bunk botox injections and one eye was higher then the other … My eternal gratitude as I appeared to have had a stroke. They use good product not some of the watered down Botox that lasts a week. You can count on months of results not a few weeks.

I purchased a Groupon and another service from their office when I was there in January 2013… of 2 different services… in April 2013 I found out I was pregnant.. needless to say any treatments here or pretty much anything for me had to stop… because I was pregnant. (No IPL, chemical treatment, laser hair removal, etc) after carrying my baby for the entire pregnancy… I delivered in Jan 2014. I breast-​feed my son for 6 month… (once I was done breastfeeding) I called to set up my appointment so that I could use the remaining services I paid for… (everything was paid in full at the time of purchase) well I pretty much was told too bad and that if I wanted to use the remaining services I had already paid for I had to pay some additional fee to use them…. I just basically explained the reason why I couldn’t come sooner (because I was pregnant, then breastfeeding) and they pretty much didn’t care. I told them it wasn’t like I didn’t come to use the services because I didn’t want to. it was because of the pregnancy. but again they didn’t care. Instead they kept my money and insisted that I pay an additional charge to use my remaining unused services.. I said, can’t you understand I was pregnant and they said they would talk directly to the doctor.. Called me back and said no– sorry you have to pay. You took to long to use your services. .really! This place doesn’t care. the only thing they care about is taking people’s money. …go somewhere else where they care about YOU. This place needs to understand that with the I don’t care attitude they will continue to get reviews like this!

I suffered severe burns on both my legs after laser treatment at Sonterra Laser Med Spa. I have had laser treatment before and never had any issue, but the technique used by the technician at Sonterra Laser Med Spa resulted in severe burns and permanent scaring. The ophthalmologist doctor who owns the spa responded by telling me he did not intend to address my concerns regarding the technician as she was a «top performer», that burns were an occasional side effect of laser treatment and suggested I wear leggings to cover my burns. I still have scars today (almost two years later).

I’m still on the fence on whether or not I like this place. My appointment was for 11:30AM and I wasn’t called in until about 11:45 or so (I’m don’t like waiting). The person working on me was very helpful with my skin analysis and my microdermabrasion. I set an appointment and we will see if I stick to this place.

Full disclosure, I know Dr. K. personally. In fact, if I didn’t, I would probably never have visited a med spa ever. But I trust him and his staff to the point that I’d rather drive to San Antonio to have a treatment than visit one closer that I don’t have full confidence in. This is my face and body on the line, people! I’m not going to take chances!!!
I have visited the spa a handful of times over the past few years for different treatments. Each time, I’m impressed with how friendly and relatable the staff is. Lets face it, if you are coming to a med spa, its to try to improve something about your appearance that you are not 100% confident about. The last thing you need is someone that seems judgmental or doesn’t have good bedside manner. The women here make you feel comfortable and relaxed. They explain the process to you and thoroughly answer questions. Being slightly neurotic and completely nervous, I started asking a ton of «what if» questions. What if this happens? What if that happens? What if this and that happens at the same time? Will I die? Will I be scarred for life? WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!! They patiently explained everything to me and were very reassuring. They gave me their personal experiences as well as how they’ve seen other experiences go. They are all very qualified. They are able to calmly handle freakouts over something as simple as a facial or their more involved treatments.
After the treatment started, I was able to relax. Like really relax. Let go of my nervousness, my neuroticism, my anxiety and totally zenned out. Treatment rooms at Sonterra are very conducive to that. Depending on your treatment, you may be able to flip through a magazine, watch TV, take a nap, or just chat with your clinician.
They offer an array of services, from lash and brow tinting, to facials, to laser hair removal, to non-​surgical lifts and fat removal, and more. Prices are beyond reasonable and they have monthly specials on top of that.
Qualified, professional, relaxing, and oh ya, amazing results. What more can you ask for?

My review is based on my phone consultation to communicate my specific needs before I made an appointment here. It was quickly made clear to me that no accommodations would be made and I was welcome to go elsewhere. I felt like a fool while trying to explain my specific situation. I don’t like feeling like I am part of an assembly line so I was glad to go elsewhere.
The office staff here are super friendly, however. I had called them a few times and it was because of their friendliness that I decided I would schedule a consultation. Because of my driving distance, they even offered to arrange a phone consultation for me.
I really, really appreciate a place that has friendly office staff and they seem to really have a nice group of people here. Based on that alone I initially felt very comfortable. Beyond that, I did not have a positive experience and won’t bring my business here.

A few months back I surprised my fiancé with some services from Sonterra Laser Med Spa and she absolutely loved it. I don’t always pick out the best gifts, but she has literally thanked me every day since. It is always a win win situation when we both get to enjoy it:)
The staff was very friendly and helped me pick out the perfect laser hair removal package. If you are looking to get something that your sweetheart will love then look no further. They use superior products and I am even considering using their services for myself.
If you are looking for a quality laser med spa with competitive prices then you should give them a call.

I got the Groupon last year. After I finished its 6 sessions, I concluded that the practice is deceptive. Sonterra tried to prolong the treatment and hopes their Groupon customers will purchase more treatment after the Groupon sessions are done. With my fair skin and dark hair, a small hair removal job should be done in less than 6 sessions. In my last session, the technican actually told me that it could take 12 sessions to completely remove my underarm hair. Well, if they don’t think it’s deceptive, then their machines must be outdated or their technicians don’t have enough knowledge to do it effectively. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Initial appointment last week was quick. I was in for my consult with minimal wait… Great news– tattoo removal projected to take 15 min… Then the laser machine broke-​BOTH of them!!! Rescheduled for today… Now been waiting for 45 min for a 15 min procedure that had to be reschedued!!! Ugh! The staff is nice though! Prices are reasonable! Fancy décor…

Tip if you want to make an appointment it is best to stop by the office. Because they are busy and more than likely you will not get a call back. Other than that the staff us professional and services are awesome!!! The office is soooo beautiful!!!

I drive from Austin to go to Sonterra for services. I was a little nervous to try laser hair removal, but the staff is so professional in explaining the process and ensuring ultimate comfort. The Visiage skin analysis was very informative and FREE!!! I have been to Sonterra 3 times now, and every visit is better than the previous one.

I live in Austin and drive to San Antonio just to go to Sonterra. I have been going for a year now and they keep adding new services. I originally went for sun damage after I was told about some crazy specials they had running. They have the best prices from any med spa with quality products and services. I came in this past weekend for a photo-​facial and I also got a massage for the first time. This was the best massage ever and ridiculously reasonable. I have no idea how they can charge so little but have such wonderful services.
