Castillo Real, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

Disappointed there was larvae and sewer flies in our room. Which was changed however the couple we were with also had larvae in the shower as well. Overall cleanliness poor, dusty furniture and moldy bathroom. Staff lacks customer service. Short walk to the beach, pool area decent. Overall can not recommend this hotel did not walk away satisfied

I booked this place for a romantic vacation weekend with my husband, to celebrate his doctoral graduation. We don’t get away much, and it was pretty expensive. I had been planning this trip for weeks, and it started off great. The hotel is nice, the pool area is pretty, it was clean, hot tub in the room, and it’s steps from the beach.
However, we needed to end our vacation early due to a pet emergency at home. We informed the front desk staff at 7 am that we needed to check out, and that we couldn’t stay that night as planned. We asked if there was any way we could get a refund, or even a voucher for a future stay, considering the circumstances. We also thought that, given we’d seen a sign on the front desk on Saturday night that said ‘no vacancy,’ they wouldn’t have a problem filling the room. Not the case — they said they held the room for us that night, even though we had checked out, and wouldn’t even consider giving a partial voucher after several phone calls with management.
We can’t afford to go back to Saint Augustine this summer, and if we could, we definitely wouldn’t stay at Castillo Real. I can’t believe how inflexible the management was, and how they failed to compromise with us in a really crappy situation. THANKS.

The service was wonderful since they found my jacket for me after I left it in the room after we checked out. That deserves 5 stars. So then we go down from there. The hotel is very dated and needs updates to the bathroom and beds. The walls are thin as we could here our neighbor and their A/​C in the morning. The free coffee and lack of a pool was disappointing as well. They are in a great location next to the beach, just 1 block away and across the street, there are bathrooms and showers with free parking as well so it is a very good location. So, I’d say, its a 3.5 stars at this point.

The wife and I just finished our long weekend getaway to St Augustine and this place was phenomenal! Great room, very spacious with a walk in shower and separate vanity room. The food was great and parking is a breeze. The beach is right there and it is absolutely beautiful. The customer service was top notch and everyone there really knew the area and recommended some great spots to visit!
Definitely planning more stays here in the future!

An excellent hotel, beach just a short walk away. Loved everything about it. Stayed during January, rates more than reasonable. Nicely decorated, lots of marble and tile. extra clean and neat. Comfortable beds. Large walk in shower, a sit down vanity with make up mirror. Great pool! A little touch that strangely, I really liked: ceramic coffee mugs and real glasses in the room. There is an excellent restaurant on premises, that i would rate $$$, You can get a great breakfast for $ 7.50 to $ 9; drinks a couple bucks more, mimosas $ 5.

I loved my stay here. Perfect location. Steps away from the beach as well as restaurants and shopping. The bed was very comfortable and the facility was very clean. I also loved having the option of going in the outside pool and hot tub.

My wife booked this hotel for us and she made a great choice. Our room had an in room jacuzzi. Nice way to relax after a long day at the beach. On premises restaurant was great too. Would definitely recommend to friends.

I love this hotel. It has character and is decorated in a manner consistent with St. Augustine’s flair. Got a call from the front desk while we were en route, letting us know our rooms were ready. For a small fee you can upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi which is well worth it. Nice touches at the reception area: water with lemon and coffee. Pleased.

Traveling to St. Augustine was really awesome for us being from Orlando because it is a short drive for a mini weekend get away. This hotel is small and very hospitable. The room was very clean and the view was nice. Close to the beach, the only down side for me was they charge $ 25/​per person to ride a shuttle to downtown. Driving downtown is NOT AN OPTION. NO parking and very crowded. A shuttle is the way to go but not for $ 50 for a couple.

Ocean views from our room. less than 1 block from the beach which is sooo wide and nice. La Cochina restaurant is excellent. other bar/​restaurants within walking distance. Best part for us is the hotel is a stop for the Saint Augustine Beach Bus that runs hourly and drops passengers off at different points including the lighthouse, alligator farm, and downtown Saint Augustine 20 min away. We really didn’t need a rental car for this trip. I would definitely come back.

Horrible experience. Front desk staff not friendly and rude manager. Dirty carpet. They charged me $ 40 for an early check in, I was suposed stay for 2 nights but I had to leave on day 2. It was around 1:00 pm and I asked to give me a credit or partial credit for another visit. They totally denied and charged me full price for the second night. I paid with my credit card at the restaurant but I have a charge or $ 45 from the restaurant and $ 1 on phone (i didn’t use the phone other than calling the front desk) So I ended paying $ 469 for one night stay. The manager has no sense of business as u explained to her that my was a business visit and I’m planning on staying one or two nights every other month. First and last time here!
The highly of the hotel is the night front desk lady Lauren. Also the hotel restaurant is amazing!

If you book through priceline beware, priceline literally ripped me off for $ 460.00. Please don’t trust the priceline and buy a room directly. Priceline has booked me for two rooms but only one was available. So five of us (2 couples and a kid) are stuck in one room with one bed and no refund for two nights. Please just reserve withouy priceline if you can. We contacted and they refuse to refund a cent, avoid PRICELINE at all costs.

Purchased this hotel on an express deal, which doesn’t give you the name til after payment. The hotel is a 3 star, so it is a bit nicer than many of your standard choice hotels– has stone flooring and a cozy bed. LOVED the plush floor mat in the bathroom. The location served me well and is close to the beach.
The bad: VERY noisy, perhaps the most noise of any hotel I’ve been in. C’mon you really shouldn’t be able to hear the full conversations coming from the next room. Also, minor oversights in the bathroom with some hair on the floor and in the shower.

Definitely enjoyed my stay here! The place was steps from the beach. The front desk lady. Which I’ve forgotten her name… She was so nice, so pleasant, and so helpful! The rooms were clean, the shower was huge, and the décor was different from their usual hotels. We loved it and would def stay again!

The Castillo Real has improved quite a bit since we last stayed there two years ago. The WIFI worked perfectly and so did the fridg. The receptionist was very friendly and provided us with pertinent info about the hotel.
Although the hotel has a breakfast, you must make your selection from a list and purchase a voucher the evening before. I don’t know if I feel like french toast or pancakes until I get up in the morning. No thanks on that.
The beach is just a few minutes walk behind the hotel. We enjoyed our visit, and we will plan on staying here the next time we are in the area.

This hotel is a nice alternative to the rental condos up and down the beach. I’ve never been one to want to stay in someone else’s place on vacation (I always turn down relatives’ offers to crash at their place) as I just really enjoy the whole hotel experience when traveling. I searched high and low for a nice and affordable real hotel on the beach and found Castillo Real.
The hotel itself is pretty nice. It’s a beach hotel and not super classy, but the rooms were big, the bathrooms were huge with a ton of counter space (which comes in handy when the two of you are trying to get ready-​they even have a nice vanity mirror for the ladies), the shower was roomy, and the staff were all very nice.
My only gripe is that the inner window curtains are sheer and the outer ones don’t come together. Sooooo you get light in your room the entire night from the parking lot, moon. Whatever. We used my hair clips to hold the drapes together so we could get some sleep.
I’d go back of I were in St. Aug again. I just have to remember to bring my hair clips.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this is a place to go. The jacuzzi suites are fantastic, big, clean and affordable. The walk to the beach is literally half a block off the white-​sanded and pristine St Augustine coast line. The staff was super kind, friendly and helpful making sure my 5 year anniversary was as an unforgettable experience. I think they just found themselves a new loyal costumer ;-)
The only downside I see to this awesome place is the service of the restaurant downstairs. They are on the rude side with overpriced/​limited food choices. With good reason Castillo Real staff makes sure to let you know that they are not by any means associated.

Castllio Real is my wife and myself’s go to weekend get away place and has been for the last 10 years or so. We really enjoy relaxing on the beach and by the pool and hot tub. The restaurant is really first class, with excellent selections and fantastic deserts. We come down here 3 to 4 times a year and totally enjoy our visits. So I highly recommend Castllio Real as a Prime place to stay when you’re in the St Augustine area.

This place really was excellent. Super clean, beautiful views, very quaint, would stay again next time we visit!
