Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington Area

The worst experience ever in a hotel. Staff are very unfriendly! They do not provide free breakfast as advertised! Many rooms need repairs. We stayed twice in the past two months as a group for AAU basketball. We will never stay again. When we complained, Betty only provided lip service over the phone. They are not honest. The hotel should be torn down and start over including the staff!

No reason to give the Holiday Inn anything less than 3*s. Clean, comfortable and the front desk staff is very accommodating and friendly. Sure the place is a bit old, but it’s fine, comfortable and clean. And while it is a bit loud at night if people play music or laugh and joke outside, that is not the hotels fault. As a matter of fact with a simple call to the front desk the music stopped shortly thereafter.

Very poor breakfast selection, only bacon for meat, you will barely ever see sausage.

First day here, staff at front desk very rude and unwelcoming, the hallways to the room smell like stale cigarettes and a hospital cafeteria. We stayed at a holiday Inn located in Burlington and the staff was much more courteous and welcoming, it was also a lot cleaner. This place is basically a motel, don’t waste your money coming here.

A shitty wifi for me is the worse thing. I travel for work and a $ 150 usd per night I expect to be able to work from my room. Unfortunately here I CANT !!! Very very disappointed once again

It took about 3 hours here before I realized how completely useless the management of this hotel was, or has been. Courteous front desk service, easy parking, nice hallways and room cleanliness… all seemed OK with this Holiday Inn. Well, it really isn’t. If you look a bit further, you can see where they just let other amenities go. I tried a visit to the indoor pool (one of the reasons I took a reservation here). It looked very unkept. Both jacuzzi hot tubs looked like they had green slime in them. The pool had a murky chemical look to it as well. No chairs were set up and I couldn’t find any place to get or dispose of towels. There is a great space in there for the pool but it looks like no one maintains or cares about it. That picture shared by the «business owner» is what it SHOULD look like. Instead it’s more like the Mad Max/​Walking Dead version of it. The bed in our room was very stiff and uncomfortable to sleep on. The hot water in the bathroom seemed to protest coming on in either the sink or the shower. Even when some did, the shower water pressure was almost a trickle. The breakfast buffet looked a bit thrown together and was not very appealing. The dining lounge looks like it was built in the late 60’s and is showing its age as the booths have lost all seat cushioning.
It’s a very sad state of affairs at Rutland Holiday Inn as I see so much wasted potential due to what looks like lazy management and a total lack of investment in making the place up to Holiday Inn standards.

So, where to begin… Well, the rooms definitely below standards considering the filth left in them. Between the cobwebs, dead bugs, and ring around the toilet I wish I had brought my college shower shoes… Also the «free wifi» straight up will not connect which just adds to the detriment of this place. The overall smell of this place reeks of stale cigarettes… But the staff is really nice at least… Good thing I didn’t pay to stay here.

Rooms of this holiday inn are more motel level. Buffet is among the average. Ok place to stay if you can not find anyplace nearby Killington.

After glancing at some of the reviews I thought more about my experience here. I had no complaints at first. The room was clean and the beds and pillows were comfortable and nice and white. There’s a fridge and microwave in the room but no freezer section in ours.
The free breakfast buffet was surprisingly better and more than the usual small buffet with lots of fresh fruit, bagels, pastries along with eggs, bacon, and much more! You can request a to go container to bring it up to your room! For me it was enough for breakfast and a snack or lunch too. We also went to the bar/​lounge for the game. There was only one tv but the food was great and you get a lot! Sun and mon there’s a beer-​wine and a burger special for $ 10 which was great! The bartender was friendly however seemed a bit overwhelmed with the larger crowd do to the storm. I really enjoyed the food and my friends did also!
The gym was enough for a location like this. The sauna didn’t work but there’s a step machine, treadmills, some machines and a bench with free weights. I have been to many hotels with far worse! They have antibacterial wipes to wipe down things also.
There was a bad rain storm so the tvs went out which forced us to break out cards and talk which was actually nice! Bathroom was clean with bath and body products which I liked vs a lot of no name soaps and conditioners etc.
For the price and last minute booking on a holiday weekend I thought it’s a great option.

Conference center seems to be the most important thing to them. The free beer hours is policed heavily, spare not one minute. Reception is lacking enthusiasm. Rooms a pain to get to, have to walk through pool area, what a pain. I only stay at holiday inns but this I cannot recommend.

i grew up 10 miles away from Rutland and the Holiday Inn had always been a joke that no locals went to; only business travelers. To be fair, they have been undergoing renovations and from what I understand the rooms are much nicer now. Word from the locals is that it is a much better place going through changes and deserves a chance. Regardless, my review is of the restaurant now called Grassfields. This is not the lively bar area where you can also; this is the old restaurant section of the hotel on the other side of the wall from the bar area.
My most recent experience was on 4÷26÷14 for dinner. I had heard that they had a new chef and this person was a terrific chef who had worked at a very popular, very good restaurant in Rutland that had closed (not due to lack of customer satisfaction, maybe IRS problems or at least that is the rumor). I went with my elderly parents who think it is ridiculous to pay more than $ 15 for an entrée. I was very hesitant to go to the Holiday Inn, I mean who has dinner on a Saturday night at a Holiday Inn? I was very skeptical and just planned on getting an appetizer. We were very happy and pleasantly surprised!
The dining room is the typical hotel dining room — small, ugly carpet, buffet stations, booth seating and little ambiance. Don’t think romantic or bustling or hip cuz it ain’t nor does it try to be. Our server was prompt and very nice. We placed our drink orders and went to the salad bar. I was happily surprised by the quality and freshness of it — at 8:30 pm they were still putting out fresh veggies and keeping it well stocked. The lettuces were very fresh, all the veggies were crisp and fresh, and they even had pea pods, a very nice and unexpected offering. I had 2 helpings of salad it was that good. Very surprising and unexpected.
We looked over the good but not huge menu. The specials that evening sounded very good so we opted for them. Our dinners came on huge plates with nice garnishes. My mom ordered the salmon and was served a huge piece of moist, flavorful salmon with a VT maple syrup and teriyaki glaze. Side veg was steamed asparagus and carrots — not the typical baby carrots but real mini carrots that were the same length as the asparagus with their green fronds on top. They were plated beautifully and looked fresh.
My Dad ordered a ½ rack of baby back ribs. He said they were some of the best ribs he has ever had, and he eats a lot of ribs! He also had the asparagus and carrots veggie side and was very happy. He also really like the whole wheat dinner roll from the salad bar.
I ordered the pasta special and was blown away by how delicious it was. Now, I have had culinary arts training, am a foodie, and also am an event planner who has worked with many, many chefs at many, many venues. I am pretty comfortable saying I know good food, I know when something is house made and I know when something is made with quality ingredients. The special was wild mushroom ravioli in an alfredo sauce (oh so fattening but I had 2 helpings of salad first, so doesn’t that equal out? ;). The ravioli were round, jumbo size and there was plenty of mushroom filling that tasted like wild mushrooms. I do not believe they were house made but they were still good. It was the alfredo sauce though that was spectacular. You could tell it was custom made for my dish; definitely not pre-​made and sitting in a pot on the stove for hours. Some of the best alfredo I have had — good quality ingredients, fluffy and light (and who ever uses those 2 adjectives to describe alfredo sauce?) but it was! I could only eat 2 ravioli and took the rest home.
This chef is damn good and the Holiday Inn has a trump card with this chef. I am hopeful that people will go their for dinner to support this chef — he knows what he is doing and does it well. I know, you think Holiday Inn for my dinner out? but I encourage people to try it. It would be a shame for this chef to have to go elsewhere because there isn’t enough business to keep him there, and that could likely happen. I understand they also serve Sunday brunch and have an all-​you-​can eat pasta bar on Friday nights. Please provide feedback to Unilocal on the restaurant.

We just stayed here. Our room was clean and somewhat newly remodeled. You can see they are doing more remodeling around the whole property. I dont think its as bad as other people have stated.

This hotel really is a joke, a bad joke at that. Leaky ceilings, uneducated front desk, dirty pool and dirty hot tubs, mold all over the place in my bathroom (I stayed in room 175,) and to top it off, the wifi hardly works, and doesn’t work at all when the hotel is at capacity. The only way I’d stay here again is if you paid me.

After writing my initial review, which was honest and truthful. I just received a message from a user Michael S. who is saying that my «cons are childish». I can only assume that this person is an employee who works at this establishment who is unhappy with the truth being let out about this horrible experience of a hotel. No worries though all of this has been reported to Holiday in upper management.

This place is absolutely disgusting. We stayed there last night. I am just going to make a list of the horrors : — there was a can of chewing tobacco on the floor behind the garbage. Not our’s!
— the room had not been vacuumed
–the bathroom was disgusting
— I thought the bed was ok because of the white linens. When I woke up this morning, I put my hand on a spot on the blanket which appeared to be dried blood! That blanket had not been washed.
–I used that antibacterial wipes in my car to clean the room. The remote control, doorknobs, and most other surfaces were black and greasy.
–there were white paint chips all over the pool area including in the hot tubs
Needless to say, we will never be back. Not worth what we paid. Find another place to go!!!

if you are handicapp beware of this hotel chain. it is obvious that this place does not cater to the handicapp. this was our honeymoon and we booked it in advance and paid it in advance. we booked a handicapp accessible room with a kingsize bed. we even called the hotel to verify this. but when we got there to check in we were told they changed our reservation with out contacting us to a room on the second floor as far from an elevater as possible. and when we complained we were told that everyone that books the handicapp room doesnt want it so we (the hotel) changed it and since they only have one room available with 2 full size beds you have to take it. they did not care about our disability and since it was paid in advance there was nothing we could do. they also refused to do anything for us like give us a refund or even give us free breakfast, this hotel ruined our honeymoon stay and since i travel to vt several times per year as well as book the travel for my company i will make sure myself, my company and all of my friends never stay at any holiday inn again. we even called corporate and they didnt care either, they just wanted to know which was more inconvenient.
Also they barely clean the room, all they do is change the towels which we got dirty ones and make the bed. they dont refresh the toiletries or vacuum the rooms or change the linenes either.
also the next day we found a woman in the lobby with her handicapp son trying to check in. she had a confirmation number but was told there are no rooms, i really wonder if they didn’t delete her confirmation so they could get more money since the rooms were listed for $ 100 more that day then when we booked it.
IF YOU ARE HANDICAPP AND EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT PAY THE EXTRA MONEY (WHICH ISNT MUCH) TO EITHER STAY NEXT DOOR AT THE HAMPTON INN SUITES OR ANY OTHER HOTEL IN THE AREA.

I am here now and saw all the terrible reviews and felt compelled to write a better view and to let everyone know that the place is in the middle of major renovations. Not only is our room nice (not «motel nice» — pretty darn nice!) and the king size bed ridiculously comfy, we were psyched to have a great mini fridge, flat screen and microwave in our room. Our toddler was psyched about having a warm hot dog for dinner (free thanks to our cooler) and a in dip in the indoor pool. A nice hotel worker offered him a noodle to swim with and later we used the giant «backyard» to kick the ball in the cool summer night before bedtime. A pretty sweet deal for a quick stopover on the way up to Montréal. Any review you see that was posted prior to summer, 2013 was writing about the hotel pre– renovations. Just a heads up. It ain’t no Ritz but it ain’t no bates motel!

This is a truly tired and frumpy hotel even after the refurbishing. It’s like they just added a crappy spoiler kit to soup up a junky import car that’s half painted. Granted this place was ten times worse before the remodel. The wall paper and décor is still tired looking and the Paynter’s Restaurant just has desperation written all over it. The owners of this place must have the attitude of, «If we put lipstick on this pig, people would still be into it since it’s the only show in town.» The rooms are clean and comfortable, but it seems that this place is aiming for a C+ in amenities instead of being a good kid and going for an A.
The curtains in my room had brown stains all over it. Come on now!
Forget about working out at this place. I’ve seen better equipment at a yard sale. The recumbent bike was broke, the elliptical machine didn’t turn smoothy, and half the equipment is rusted. I’m sure the equipment was cutting edge back in 1979 when they got it.
The only plus side was the friendly staff who made check in a breeze. At least there were complimentary cookies and coffee at check in.
This place is like eating a little Cesar’s pizza — it’s a good value at $ 5 and still tastes good even though better pizza is out there. I just hate walking into hotel room withe the attitude of saying, «I guess this will have to do» versus «Wow! This is more than I expected.»

For the first time ever,
has finally done me wrong.
I thought our snowboarding season was over for the year, since our most frequented mountains in PA had a severe lack of snow for the second half of the season. Just when we were ready to say adieu to our gear and store it away until next year, the northeast got hit with a killer storm. Rain in NY, NJ, and PA, but snow, and tons of it, in VT.
Immediately, I went online and pulled up the best star rating in the Killington, VT area. Three stars was the room that topped the charts, and so it was booked. Upon payment, we were told that our hotel gamble was Holiday Inn. Now, I was not expecting the Ritz by any means, the room was extremely low in price… but I was also hoping for something better than a Motel 8, considering the star rating provided.
I went to the website, and actually thought that although it was just a Holiday Inn, the site looked pretty okay. Rooms have been renovated within the past 5 years or so, the room rate was more than double what I paid for it through hotwire, there was a game room, bar, restaurant, indoor pool and spa… All of which looked pretty okay.
Not the case upon arrival. The rooms were terribly old and out of date and pretty gross (we checked for bed bugs before settling in-​there were none, one extra star provided for this plus), the common areas with the exception of the lobby were sort of skanky. The ice machines were broken, the vending machines had nothing to vend, the game room was a closet (literally), you could here EVERYTHING that was going on in your neighbors room, and everyone there was just… weird.
I would definitely say that this place is more of a 2 star sort of place rather than a 3. My advice: Look elsewhere if possible.

staff is friendly thats correct… but sad to say that the place is not worth the money we paid. I was expecting cleaner rooms. This hotel has smoking rooms that permeates to all the halls. so it stinks like smoke in the halls.
the swimming pool and jacuzzi are nice, but its not as clean as i would like it to be. We also had the breakfast buffet and that was ok. The restaurant was decent as well and had a 20% discount for presidents weekend. This hotel needs a renovation.
