I’ve had a lot of issues with my crown on tooth 31. It wasn’t until Dr. Nguyen showed me the X-​Rays and explained to me what had happened that I understood why. Apparently the last dentist I had botched the neighboring tooth (#30) so that the filling interfered with #31. The last dentist took seven (7) tries to cement a crown on that tooth, but it was flawed and let in bacterial. Dr. Nguyen did the following after he explained this:
1. Removed the bad crown
2. Drilled back the interfering part of the neighboring tooth
3. Cleaned the nub of all necrotic tissue
4. Shaved part of the bone to create a better margin (~$ 1500-​$ 3000 periodontal work — for free!)
4. Personally created the temp and trimmed it down
5. Personally cleaned my teeth post-​op
When it was all done, he only charged me for the new crown and the cleaning. Furthermore, I arrived 10 minutes early and he took me in immediately with no wait. There was no pain and everything went exactly as he explained.
Two weeks later, the new crown came in and fit perfectly. Once again, no issues, just got the crown and was on my way. I am one happy customer!

Dr. James and Dr. Tiffany are hands down the most professional Dentist that I have ever visited. The office staff is very friendly and so are the Doctors. I am confused as to why people have posted less than 5 star reviews on Unilocal,this office explained my treatment plan in full detail and worked with my insurance company. Also, office is very clean and modern and makes patients feel right at home! I would recommend this office to anyone whom is in need of a great dentist in Redondo Beach!

I was very impressed with Dr Nguyen and his staff. I took both of my teenage sons there since I was less than impressed with their last dentist (I moved to the area two years ago and chose a dentist recommended by a friend) who had very dirty offices and rude staff and antiquated technology. Dr Nguyen’s offices and staff were a breath of fresh air. The office hours are great as well. The Saturday appointments are very convenient for my family (I don’t have to take off work and the kids don’t have to miss school) The offices were very clean and contained the latest technology! Dr Nguyen was very imformative and upfront about the costs of every procedure!

This office is great. Dr. James Nguyen (win) is just wonderful. I have been to many dentists near Hermosa Beach, and now I have stumbled onto a dentist I can trust. Other reviewers seem to have trouble with their dentist, and associate their bad experience with Dr. Nguyen, because there are several dentists nearby with similar names. Shame on these ill informed people. This office is super clean, Dr. Nguyen is helpful, takes the time to show you everything possible about your teeth, explains every movement he makes, provides detailed printouts of the recommended treatments and breakout of costs paid you any insurance. The staff is polite and well trained. I recommend Dr. Nguyen to everyone and rave about the great service. I work in Long Beach and live in Hermosa. Neil.

Dr. Nguyen has been my dentist since 2007 when he first opened his practice in Redondo Beach. I visit his office twice each year and he and his staff have always provided me with caring and competent service. I’ve recommend him to friends and co-​workers whenever the opportunity arises. I’ve only now decided to write a review because Dr. Nguyen recently went above and beyond for me.
One evening a couple weeks ago a cracked molar gave out and a large portion of the tooth broke off. The experience was quite uncomfortable to put it mildly. I called Dr. Nguyen first thing the next morning and he was able to arrange his schedule to see me within little more than an hour from my call. His assessment and advice were straight forward and I was quickly fitted and prepped for a crown. While working on me he took care to make sure I was as comfortable as possible and not in any pain. The permanent crown was put in earlier this week and I am very pleased with the final result. It looks just like my other teeth and feels better than before.
Visits to the dentist are probably no one’s idea of fun but having trust in your dentist makes an uncomfortable situation much easier and I trust Dr. Nguyen.

Yes, because my sole purpose for joining Unilocal six years ago and writing detailed reviews on various businesses is actually an elaborate plot to bring down sadistic dentists and not to give an honest evaluation of my experiences.
Maybe instead of accusing others of fabrication, your time would be better spent reassessing the legitimacy of your own practice.

I’ve been lucky to find good dentists and stay with them over the years. When I moved to Redondo from VA, I needed a new dentist. I chose Redondo Smile based on convenience and insurance.
I have been extremely happy with my choice — so happy that even though I moved across the LA basin, I still make the drive to see Dr. James every 6 months. He is a good dentist, and an interesting person, well worth talking to beyond the mechanics of your dental health.
The office is modern and clean. The office staff are professional and friendly. I have never had to wait for my appointment. I get a good quality cleaning, done quickly, with modern equipment (not a metal pick.) I’ve had two more significant procedures done, and both were very satisfactory — proper pain management, up-​front disclosure of costs, discussion of options. I’ve received good advice for how to improve my dental health.
I do not understand the very negative reviews on this site. Make sure to read all the reviews, not just the ones that show up on the 1^st page. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Nguyen to a friend or co-​worker.

I like Dr. Nguyen because:
1) office is super clean
2) has all the latest technology
3) if you get any work done, he can tell you exactly how much it will cost you after insurance. Most dentists have no clue how much it will cost, then they send you a generic bill. Dentists that do this always make me think they are running a scam.
4) has a digital camera where he can show you exactly what is going on with your teeth by displaying the image on a computer screen
5) has great hands and has never slipped and injured my teeth.
6) he is knowledgeable.
7) front desk is polite

Dr Nguyen has been recommended to me by my co-​worker, who said he is thorough and honest. He was also available for Saturday appointments, which is convenient. I was impressed with his nice office, friendly staff and straight forward approach.
I have been going to him since 2012, (hubby goes to him as well). Recently I needed to replace an old crown. No problems, he is always careful & concerned about patients and will discuss the procedure & any out of pocket costs before a decision is made.

Oh yes, forgot to say that I didn’t have a Unilocal account, but created one to write and post this review.
I find it odd that the only review shows is negative. Look at the «filtered» reviews. All but one are glowing reviews.
Came here after my regular dentist had diagnosed me with gigival disease. Dr. Nguyen took a look and said, «wow, must have magically healed itself. You actually have abfractions.» He’s professional and methodical. Great chairside manner. Always on time. Very clear about costs before he does his work. Paperless office, which means never a misplaced record. He reviews your record and can speak in great detail about any of the work he’s done with you. He takes high resolution photos of the work before and after, so you can see exactly what was done.
My wife also goes here, and is also very satisfied.
Best dentist and office I have ever been to.

Redondo Smile Dental is another pushy ‘used car salesmen’ type dentist office that will try to push products and services on you that you do not need.
My wife recently visited this office, and was told that she must have a root canal. Something like $ 800 out of pocket. We got a second opinion, and was told that there was absolutely *no* need for a root canal. She ended up getting the work done she needed for about $ 200 with this second dentist, and without the agony of the root canal that Dr. Nguyen was trying to push.
That was several months ago and my wife is doing fine — it is now completely obvious that the second dentist was correct. No root canal was needed, at all.
If you go to this office, and they try to push something big, question them. Go get a second opinion. This is a dental office that is mainly in it for the money, and has no problem putting you through painful, expensive, and unnecessary operations in order to get you to write them a check.
