We specialize in early language learning for children ages 5 and up, test prep and homework help for teens through the AP exam as well as preparation for students studying abroad. expert language coaching and cultural consulting for the adult business traveler. Our famous language brush ups allow you to tune up your language skills and travel with confidence. Give yourself, your child or grandchild the gift of a second language. Children learn their new language in a nurturing, caring environment through songs, stories, cooking and crafts. For adults, we offer intensive classes. Give us a weekend and we will give you a new language!

History

Established in 1987.

The Beth Lurie Language Center was created with a specific mission: to make learning French, Italian and Spanish accessible to all, fun and stress free. Using only authentic materials purchased in Europe or Latin America, Beth carefully crafted a curriculum that would allow her students to achieve language success quickly and easily.

As a young mother of 3, Beth was unable to find the kind of informal, nurturing language programs that she had seen while living and studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. Tired of the competitive and impersonal programs she found in New York, she created her first language playgroups in 1987. From there, she created individualized programs for school aged children, teens and adults, based on the same idea. Language learning should be joyful, not stressful, and that everyone can learn a second language, not just the select few. The key is to learn to express your own thoughts and put together full sentences from the very first lesson without memorization.

B.A. Vassar College cum laude. MA in Romance Languages, CUNY and TFLYS Certification (Teaching Foreign Languages to Young Students) from Columbia University Teachers College. French, Italian and Spanish have been my lifelong passion. For over 25 years in Manhattan and Long Island, my mission continues to be to help students of all ages learn to speak with joy and confidence, and to enjoy all the cultural, intellectual and business benefits that language learning brings. I believe that all children should have the opportunity to develop their talent for language learning from the very youngest age. Teens, if taught correctly, can and will achieve excellence. There are no «hopeless cases». Adults who attend my Brush Up sessions before a trip for business or leisure travel will find themselves communicating with ease when they reach their destination!
