Suite Paradise

My husband and I were looking forward to staying at Poipu Sands 315 (1 bd, 2 bathrooms) in December 2015 based on all the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. I forgone the Best Rate 10−15% discount and booked this unit specifically. Unfortunately, our excitement was dampened when we walked in and were greeted with the loud sounds of construction. There was a huge renovation project across from our back porch at the Point.
I immediately called the front desk and explained the situation. We traveled from Seattle to Kauai to relax and this will not work. Elsie put me on hold for over 10 minutes and then stated that «the Point is not our property and that we have no control over their construction». She argued with me for a while until I asked to speak to the supervisor.
Bob, the officer manager, got on the phone and listened to my concerns. He then offered to move us to another development. I told him it has to be in the same Extra Deluxe category and he assured me that it will be the same or better. He then informed me he found a 2-​bedroom replacement which I though was nice so I thanked him. When we went back to the office, they gave us keys to Manualoha 502. Again, we were disappointed to discover 502 was a 1 bedroom (contrary to what Bob offered on the phone) and 1 bathroom. Although it’s also Extra Deluxe, the unit seemed older and very dated.
I felt like we had to settle for a less desirable unit with 1 less bathroom even though I specifically paid for a better more updated one. We were not satisfied but were too weary to move again. Suite Paradise eventually gave us 10% off.
I’ve read positive comments about the customer service at Paradise Suite. I cannot say the same about my experience. Not once did anyone apologized for our inconvenience or called to make sure we were ok. I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable when Bob said «no one at Poipu Sands has complained about the noise except for you».

For our first visit to Kauai, we rented through Suite Paradise. They were terrific! Prior to our visit, they provided pertinent information regarding area activities, weather, what to pack, etc. This was invaluable to us, as we probably would not have included a jacket if they had not written to do so! The condo was clean, well-​appointed, spacious, and beautiful. It was EXACTLY as pictured in their listing, which as most travelers know, is not always the case with some rental companies! The towels, complimentary toiletries, and even a bottle of wine with glasses were laid out hotel-​style in our unit, which was a fantastic extra touch. Additionally, there was a guest book for visitors to leave a note for the condo owner. I enjoyed reading the entries of others and leaving my own, and we picked up quite a few tips about places to visit on the island through this book. Overall, I highly recommend Suite Paradise, and we will definitely use their service for any future visit to Kauai.

Location! Location! Location! Their condos are in prime locations along Poipu’s coast. We could walk to the beach, Grand Hyatt and pools galore.
The staff was pleasant, efficient and helpful with directions and local tips.
The condo was very clean, large and had a great garden view.
The grounds are beautiful and easy to get around with maps along the many pathways.
Best of all the price could not be beat!

Good price and friendly staff. The suite we were in was perfect I like things clean and fear hotels because I believe they are all dirty I cringe just thinking about it but I was very comfortable here more so than other hotels. I went to St. Regis after which is a higher end hotel and was only a little bit more comfortable which says a lot about this place; over all happy. I really felt at home and it was super relaxing and not one roach by the way didn’t even see any in the parking lot it smelled fine too they even had candles I could light in the bathroom.

My friends and I stayed here for a friends wedding and we fell in-​love with the place. Few minutes from the beach and local attractions. The view is great, breezy yet warm. My friends and I ended up cooking breakfast and ate out on the patio just because the place has a dinning table outside. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Will definitely come back again.

we rented #17 of Poipu Craters for two nights. When we arrived, the place stunk like body odor and funk. It was gag worthy. Because there is no air conditioning and the place was all closed up, it was very stuffy, so we hoped that airing it out would address the smell. Unfortunately, no such luck. Even hours later, the smell remained. It was especially bad in the living room and up the stairwell. Incredibly unpleasant, but by now we were stuck here.
That night, when we went upstairs to bed and flipped on the bathroom light (the bathroom sink/​counter is basically in the bedroom), several cockroaches scattered across the counter (we have photos!), right by our toothbrushes. Lovely. We went to bed set on spending our 2^nd night somewhere not gross (we were only in Kauai for two nights). We woke up and the smell remained.
The next morning I called and told the clerk about the smell and the roaches and that I would like a refund for the 2^nd night. He said he couldn’t do that, but that he could offer us another condo. Given that they had thought it ok to rent us a unit that smelled foul and had roaches, and our limited time, I said that was not what we wanted, we wanted a refund. He said he couldn’t do that, I said we would be checking out anyways, and he hung up on me.
We checked out early anyway and checked into a nice hotel instead.
So basically, we paid $ 140+taxes plus our replacement accomodation cost to not sleep here.

When we make our annual trip to Kauai, we use Suite Paradise.
What it’s not:
1. A resort. If you want a spa, room service and on-​site restaurants, stay at the nearby Kauai Lagoons or Hyatt. If you want Aveda toiletries or 1600 thread count sheets, book Princeville. However, despite the lack of these amenities, nearly all the condos are close to pools, have a ton of pathways to jog or stroll and there are tennis courts. All the ones we stayed in had a closet filled with beach toys, chairs, tennis rackets and other things. Also, we’ve had condos that had DVD and VCR players, a small selection of books to read at the beach and a couple of games (chess and jenga were in the most recent one).
2. Ocean-​front. As other reviewers have noted, this is far from an ocean– or beach-​front experience. The beach is nearby, but it’s a trek (depending on where exactly you stay). My cousin told me it was a «short» couple minutes away. Apparently, I need to exercise more, as I was left in the dust carrying a 30 pound 2-​yr old. Thanks, cuz.
The main reason my family chooses to stay here is simple: SPACE. Our last trip saw four adults and two rugrats. Prior to that, we had six adults and two rugrats. That’s how we roll. For around $ 500 a night, we got 2 – 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen and 2 – 3 bathrooms. With that much space, you can send the kids upstairs with grandma and relax on the patio in peace… until you hear screaming because grandma can’t stand the kids anymore.
Anyway, although you can cut a few bucks off the rate by opting for non-​A/​C, we need A/​C. We’re city folk and we don’t care if we disperse CFCs into the environment, as long as we can sleep in unadulterated coolness.
While we’re not saving the environment, we did save money not having to book 3 separate hotels rooms. The fact that there’s a washer and dryer in the units definitely help when you have kids or if you’re staying a long time. Additionally, we were able to cook full meals with the groceries we bought from Sueoka’s.
In the end, it’s all about personal preference. If you need to be pampered and catered to, this ain’t the place for you. However, if you travel with a posse or just want to have a home away from home, these condos are tastefully decorated, modern, well-​stocked and, most importantly: CLEAN. We’re already repeat visitors and I don’t foresee that coming to an end anytime soon.

These guys do a great job on SEM since it seems like a lot of people find their way to staying here when visiting Kauai. They run a pretty smooth operation. The 3 condos that I ended up booking online all worked out very well. At times it was a bit difficult to get folks on the phone, but leave a message and you will get a call back.
The units we booked were standard for 6 people occupancy — 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, full kitchen, living room and a few balconies. 1 master bedroom (king bed) with master bath, 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds and 1 loft with queen bed that has a bathroom. No AC, but ceiling fans and screens on all the windows /​doors for good ventilation if you leave everything open. Plenty of towels, sheets and extra blankets and the place was kept pretty clean. In unit washer and dryer — although our washer and dryer needed some servicing (the other condo’s didn’t have problems with theirs.). Included is the cleaning fee — so check out was a breeze to just lock up and leave the keys on the dining table.
About a 30 minute drive from Lihue airport and has some grocery stores, shopping centers and restaurants nearby. But much like the rest of Kauai, not a lot is open late.

Like other reviews have stated, the ocean views are nothing to write home about, but you can still see it. I would not call it deluxe. Just a warning to people who might like to be right up on the surf. The buildings are not right on the ocean where you can hear the waves crash. Still, it was a very nice property with VERY friendly staff, who do a great job, and are not to be held responsible for location. The building we stayed at was a good ¼ a mile walk to the beach, and no sunset views. But to be fair, sunset views had not been advertised. That was just something I had hoped for. We stayed at the Kahala section in a one bedroom unit in building #1.
The bedroom window faced the main road, so we could hear traffic most of the night. Sometimes, a few cars with mega bass sound systems would pass by at 2:30 — 4:00 am. This is not the fault of the property owners, but still people who wish a quite time should take note of this fact. The other down side is that the pool was right outside the living room/​kitchen, and you could hear children playing most of the day. As a single person with no children, this was a personal discomfort. Some people might not mind this type of thing. But for me and my traveling companion, it was not the peaceful experience we had been hoping for. The inside of our unit was in need of some minor updating, and repair. But the property was still nice. Again, the staff are very nice, helpful, and seem to take pride in the work the do to keep the place running smoothly. It just seemed to be not worth the price in my honest opinion, but this is Poipu, and it’s all about location, location, location. It’s a business, and that is the way it goes in the travel game. I’ll stay elsewhere in the future, but I am sure some folks would truly love the property. It’s all about personal preference.

Suite Paradise offers great proximity to the Poipu and Brennecke beaches, which are the best around for swimming and snorkeling (many other area beaches are rocky and have strong currents). You’re primarily paying for this prime location. The facilities themselves are nice, but not what you’d expect for the price. The «extra deluxe» condo that we rented was advertised as being 100 – 300 yards from the beach, but the actual walk was approximately a third of a mile. The condo was nice, although lacking in any kind of personality or amenities (no board games, reading materials, etc.). We had expected a king bed in one room, and two doubles in the other. Instead, one of the rooms had two twin beds. The internet disconnected intermittently. So, Suite Paradise offered a solid 3-​star experience – maybe even 3.5 – but they don’t pack a lot of bang for the buck.

We have traveled from Hawaii to Rome and this is as good as it gets… We contracted for the deluxe, ocean view at Nihi Kai and the suite was wonderful. All the amenities right down to the wine in the refrigerator.
The view of the ocean was wonderful, some views of the mountains as well. furniture, kitchen, beds and bath were all top end… loved the ability not to go out of eat all the time and the beach was within walking distance. We’ll definitely be back if we return to Kauai…

We’ve stayed at Poipu Kai Condos through Suite Paradise 4x and each time was great. My experience has been the more money we spend the closer we are to the water. It’s less expensive to book online — but they’re very nice about answering questions about the different options over the phone and then having you set it up online. All of the condos we’ve stayed in have been very clean, well decorated, comfortable and fully equipped. We’ve stayed at the Hyatt 3x and two other hotels on Kauai as well — but we strongly prefer the Condos at Suite Paradise so we can eat-​in and enjoy our breakfasts and leftovers — rather than going out to eat all the time.
