Lawai Beach Resort

I love this place. Some people complained there is no AC. It’s HAWAII — NO NEED. OPEN THE DOORS. we have owned since 1996 when it was new and have never had problems when we visit. The staff is always friendly, making sure you experience the aloha spirit. TheBanyan pool is the best one in my opinion. It’s open from 8 am to 10 pm. The others are only open til 9 pm I believe. Parking is plenty.
We have a two bedroom two bath unit in the Banyan building which is also my favorite building. Easily over 1000 square feet, so they are spacious, nice, and have gorgeous views of the ocean and Lawai Beach. There is a washer/​dryer in the units and they are strong advocates of recycling, which is excellent. After all, it is an island, so take care of the aina «land.»
Speaking of beach. Lawai beach is great for snorkeling; I prefer it to Poipu Beach because Poipu beach is rockier. And, Lawai beach is across the road. So easy access!
The resort is in Koloa, and the area has been built up significantly over the years. Right up the road is the new (er) Kukui’ula shops — touristy shops as well as a Longs Drugs (CVS). I was able to get my prescription refilled with no trouble and only room 15 minutes!
Koloa town has a cute little strip of tourist shops, but the town is adorable and homey. Kauai is also my favorite island besides Oahu, so I always have good things to say. The ONLY drawback is that there are not many radio stations, so bring CDs or have music Ready if you’re particular about car music.
There is also even a shuttle that can take you around if you need to get somewhere. $ 0.50 to take you around the area. The pickup is across from Koloa Fire Department, in front of the yellow submarine. FIFTY. CENTS! Then if you wanna go into Lihue, it is an additional $ 2.00. I am extremely okay with that. I used it to go to/​from Lihue one night and it was easy. Just tell the shuttle driver you wanna go Lihue, and they’ll let you know when to get off at Kalaheo. Then, you get Route 100 and it takes you to Ross. Just let the driver know and they’ll remind you when it is your stop.
Kauai is becoming more populated every time I am there. But I still love the «Garden Isle,» because it reminds me of what I envisioned Hawaii to be back in the day.
I hope you will visit — and if you stay at Lawai Beach Resort I hope you enjoy it. The business center gives computer access and the rooms have wifi.

This is an amazingly well maintained timeshare fronting the ocean. The ground is spotless & patrolled regularly. It is better furnished than most of the timeshares we have been at-​including the Marriott & Westin. We were at first assigned a ground floor unit @ the Coral building — that was ok but not inspiring. The front desk staff, especially Angel, spent at least 30 minutes to get us an unit @ a higher floor in the Banyan building with an ocean view overlooking the pool area. My advise is to try for the Banyan. We also have a washer/​dryer in the 1 bedroom with a king size bed vs a queen size at the Coral. Be informed that the resort fee is $ 75/​week but you do have free wifi. The top floor of the garage structure is great for kids in addition to the workout room, ping pong, table soccer, & miniature golf. BBQ area also provided. The units do not have AC but the ceiling fans are adequate in December but I wonder if they would be good enough in a hot & humid day. 5-​star for the staff with 6 star for Angel.

OMG!!! Where do I start? We had booked this resort through our timeshare over a year ago period and specifically we requested a two bedroom two bathroom which we had many times in the past. We were traveling with five adults. When we came to the resort we were given a room with only one bathroom. This was not what we had requested. We were also told that they could not accommodate us and anyway. It wasn’t until Sunday that we were told we could move rooms and that there would be some construction during the day as long as we were aware of that. The front desk notified us that we could move and we waited all day for the phone call to let us know what time. It wasn’t until 4:30 in the afternoon that I had contact at the front desk and was told that the room was ready a while ago. The person that contacted me had left for the day and forgot to call. We were told that there would be maid service on Thursdays but we found out on Thursday that if we only stayed a week there was no maid service at all. We have been coming to this resort for 15 years and have never had this type of situation. Unfortunately this will probably be our last trip to this location and unfortunately have to post this review.

NO AIR CONDITIONING!!!
We were totally surprised to learn there was no A/​C available in any of the units. If you think Hawaii always has a breeze, think again. We were hot and miserable and hardly slept even with the ceiling fan going because we were so HOT. Not to mention that we were cocooned in the memory foam mattress which made it even hotter.
The unit furniture was okay and the unit itself was definitely in need of remodeling.
The grounds are beautiful and kept up very nicely. The pools were nice and warm (a lot of pools in Hawaii are cool). We appreciated parking in the parking garage as it rained most of the time so we didn’t get wet going to and from our car.
They do not allow late check-​outs even if you offer to pay for a late check out.

Great location and value! I have stayed here for over 10 years and they are nothing but consistent. I can’t wait until I’m back in December!

This is our 2^nd stay and each time has been nice. The view of Lawai beach from many of the lanai is spectacular. In the past we have had a pool view, which also gave us a perfect beach & sunset view. You can walk to Beach House restaurant or Lawai Beach in just a minute or two. The two bedroom units consist of a room with a king sized bed and a room with 2 twins and a living room with a pullout couch (sleeps 6). Pretty quiet except for the roosters. Everything you need for the kitchen is there or can be requested.

I have been coming here for years, my family bought into the time year a long time ago.
The location is amazing, there is top-​notch snorkling nearby, an amazing restaurant call the beach house, where you can see the best sunset on the island, and the new Kukuiula shopping center.
The complex is older, and the coral building is definitely out of the 70’s but they have updated the main pool which is very nice with rock waterfall and spa.
The staff is excellent, they have always been super nice. There is mini-​golf and a gym which is also convenient. They have a vast selection of movies which is important as there is not much to do after dinner in Kauai.
Good value, as most other places like the Grand Hyatt that are nicer are $ 500+ a night minimum.

Not being an experienced timeshare owner or guest, I don’t really have a frame of reference but I have travelled a lot and know a thing or two about lodging. This place is really awesome.
If you want a full service hotel with daily housekeeping and room service and the like, then stay at a full service hotel. BUT… if you want to LIVE in Kauai for a week or two this is the place. Pools, hot tubs, washers and dryers, full kitchens, weber bbqs, BEST snorkeling on Kauai and amazing sunset vistas. We’ll be buying shares here. Love it.

Lawai Beach Resort is amazing. Beautiful and spacious rooms, all the comforts of home. This «timeshare» facility has more kitchen amenities than any other one we have stayed at, and that is a plus for me, we do a lot of our own cooking. It is well put together, oh also they have a washer and dryer in each room-​sweet. The staff is very courteous, helpful, just a good bunch of people. The ground are beautifully landscaped and well maintained. Great pool, out door grills, work out area, movies (DVDS) and ocean front views… gorgeous. Our only complaint, there was NO A/​C. I realize many homes, stores, most restaurants and some hotels do NOT have A/​C. We have stayed on three of the islands and this was the first to so uncomfortably warm, no warm and sweaty durning a vacation of this sort. With windows open, ceiling vents and floor fans, there have been a «few» uncomfortable days and trying to sleep… well it took us a while to get there. We live in AZ, because the heat can get extremely hot, there are power outages due to the heat, so we have had very hot sleepless nights before. Yes we had breezes come through our room but it was still a bit of a hard pill to take during our vacation. Lawai Beach Resort is a great place, I would have given it FIVE STARS, but, just remember, the humidity and w/​out A/​C, it can be… uncomfortable to say the least.

My Husband and I stayed there in October.
At first they roomed as in one of the two story buildings. The room was beautiful, but everywhere we turned was a glass door or a window (even in the dressing room). This would have been wonderful if we where on a higher floor. Being in the bottom floor we felt we were in a fish bowl. People in the street and parking lot could see what we were doing.
We asked for a room transfer and in spite of it being full, Susan Magallanes at the desk worked hard to find us another room. She was persistent until she could find a beautiful room at the buildings with more floors. Put as in a room with a view of the ocean. Thank you Susan!

I have a one bedroom unit. We exchanged our mainland time share. The units are nice. Across the street from the beach. Staff try’s to meet all of our needs. Nice kitchen and view from our lanai. No A/​C which is problematic since Kauai has been short on trade winds this week!

I say this is the second best place I have ever stayed on the islands besides Disneys Aulani which will probably never be beat!!!
The views here are AMAZING!!! nice rooms and friendly staff!!! Would def stay here again!!!

What an incredible time we had at Lawai Beach Resort!
The location is spectacular — directly across from the beach, near Spouting Horn, close to a little strip mall to purchase goods/​items, across from The Beach House — great little restaurant
The room was perfect — Clean, huge, had a lanai (patio), quiet, beautiful view of the main pool and beach
The staff was wonderful — Kind, helpful, consistently smiling
I could only go on more and more about how much I love this place. I will definitely be back again next year!

I love this place. We have been coming here for 15 years and never get tired of it. Beautiful pools and grounds. One of the best snorkeling spots in Kauai right across the street. The Beach house Resteraunt has great food and beautiful sunsets across the street. Riptides snack shop out front for a quick snack or shaved ice. Free WiFi at the resort I definitely love this place.

What a great place! We enjoyed most everything about it. The rooms are huge and have everything you need. Staff were always nice and willing to help and the grounds were in great shape even though there was remodeling in progress. Our only complaint was the beds are not very comfortable and you can often be woke up bcuz the bedrooms are along the common hallway and parking lot. We ended up sleeping on the fold out couch which was more comfortable and much quieter.
This is a great location though and is worth a visit.

Nice place to stay the rooms were clean & nice, great views, pool and spa was clean, great location right across from some good surf and snorking! The beach house restraunt is nice too.

We have been coming here for 10 years now with timeshare (Kona is our home condo) and have stayed in both the Alii and Banyan building and have stayed from the first floor to the fourth. All have really good views. We stay here because it is situated in front of Lawai Beach with only a two lane road separation. The views are stunning. It is close to so many great restaurants and different price points. It is tidy inside and out. Friendly people work here.

First time to Kauai; here for a family wedding. Did lots of research and decided that Lawai Beach Resort was where we wanted to stay, and were fortunate to get timeshare exchanges for 2 rooms here — a 2-​bdrm and 1-​bdrm in the Banyan Building, right across from the main (beautiful) pool and Jacuzzi and with ocean view (although not quite as good as you would get on the upper 2^nd, 3^rd or 4^th floor. Still, no bad days in paradise — can’t really complain. Very quiet, peaceful and relaxing resort.
THE UNITS: very spacious, big living room, big master bedroom, Jacuzzi tub in the master, washer/​dryers in unit, nice modern kitchen, w/​everything we needed, flat screen TVs, DVD players, free internet.
AMENITIES: 3 pools, the nicest of which was right in front of us, w/​rocks and waterfalls, and beautiful landscaping, plus lovely «grotto» Jacuzzi; free games to check out and DVD rentals, free parking, a few daily activities, although a bit pricey ($ 15 for hula or ukulele lessons; $ 40 for watercoloring, etc.). Enjoyed the rooftop miniature golf and tennis court (free); they have free bocce ball sets to check out, too.
THE BEACH — The best was that it’s right across the street from one of the best snorkeling beaches in Kauai — Lawai Beach — depending on the tide, it can be just a sliver of beach, but it’s honey-​colored sand, gorgeous views, and tons of beautiful colorful fish. We even saw an eel one day and a huge sea turtle the next! Tonight there were probably 50 people on the grass above the beach to take in the lovely sunset, that we can see right from our place. So, location, location, location.
SERVICE: Very friendly. Had minor issue that our room was missing a coffee maker, but got that rectified w/​in 24 hours. There was also some pretty major construction going on, including installing solar panels on the roof that probably impacted some rooms, but wasn’t a major distraction to us.
Overall, we met people who have been coming here every year for decades, and can totally see why. Lawai Beach Resort is a very special place!

Stayed for a week. Enjoyed the beachfront location. The two lane road in front does get busy with snorkel tour vans, tourist buses going to Spouting Horn, and the evening crowds that dine at the Beach House restaurant which is directly across the road.
The resort is tidy. The grounds crews & the housekeeping staff do an admirable job. The 3 swimming pools are kept very clean. The rooftop tennis courts and 18 hole mini-​golf are well maintained. Though on a hot August day, you will quickly cook up there. The enclosed air conditioned exercise room has 6 treadmills.
Our one bedroom unit had a king size bed. The mattress is firm. The closet space is plenty for 2 people for a week. There’s a flat screen TV up high on the opposite wall. The bedroom is on the backside passageway, tenants coming back late at night with loud voices did wake me several times.
The generous size living room had a sofa sleeper and two large chairs. The living room had a 50“flat screen TV, a VCR/​DVD player, wi-​fi, and a small Sony stereo sound system with i-​pod socket. The lobby has a 500 title DVD lending library.
Towels and toiletries and good quality and generous.
There is a clothes washer and dryer in the unit. Very convenient.
The kitchen is workable. We cooked almost every night. The stove is a four burner with oven. The unit had all the kitchen tools, pots & pans that we needed. There’s a 25 cubic foot fridge /​freezer.
The ocean facing lanai is large enough for 4 people to comfortably eat a meal.
I’m giving 4 stars because this resort is homey, friendly, low key. Very Hawaiian. My kind’a place. And I plan to return again. I reserve 5 stars ratings to full service resorts that are ostentatious with luxury.
Update Aug 2014: return visit. Got a 4^th floor room in building #1. Perfect ocean view. Apartment is in great shape. Staff are friendly & helpful.
Highly recommended.
