Whalers Cove An Ocean Front Luxury Vacation Condo

Living on Kauai, we learn which resorts have the best service, the best people. We love Whalers Cove Resort for our staycations. High end, but affordable. Luxurious, but feels like a home. And the view is unmatched.

I recently stayed in condo 231 with my family. What a clean and beautiful place to stay. Amazing ocean front view and gorgeous pool.

We spent 8 days at Whalers Cove (unit 321) and enjoyed the serenity, views and comfort of this fine resort. The location is great. All in all, a wonderful experience.
This particular unit and some others, are managed by firms hired by their owners and not managed by the resident office. I mention this because we experienced some minor issues and despite the fact that they were not responsible, Marianne in the local managers office was very helpful in helping sort them out.
We did experience some minor problems with the unit that kept this from being a 5 star review. The dryer was broken throughout our stay, portable air conditioner units that leaked water, temporary phone problems. None of these (except maybe the dryer problems) were serious inconveniences. Special kudos to Josh (the unit managers contact) for his quick and thorough response in getting phone service working. He was very responsive and went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable stay.
All in all we were very satisfied with our stay and would gladly return.

My parents were staying here and we came to visit overnight. The location is gorgeous. The pool is amazing. The views are really perfect. It is a small condo complex, the shared areas are properly sized. If I were to go to Kauai again I would stay on this end of the island. The chickens are not such a problem here. My parents (in their mid 60’s) have raved and raved about this place and will be returning for a third time this year.

stayed in unit 134 for a week. chose this place after looking on the Internet at at least one hundred condo units on Kauai. this place is just what we wanted:
1. It’s secluded – not a part of the sprawling resorts and low budget condo rentals.
2. Tends to be older crowd-​over 30-​heard not one screaming child
3. Quiet – no loud families tromping down the hallways
4. Straight on gorgeous ocean view
5. No beach in front of the condo view-​nice lawn instead and quiet-​not the place if you want to walk right out on the beach-​but we like that because you don’t have to deal with hordes of people sunbathing right infront of your windows.
6. Ocean views from the bedroom-​literally the sound of the ocean comes in your windows as if you were actually on a boat, it’s very hard to find a condo where both the great room and the bedroom have full on oceanfront views.
7. This unit contains NO rundown furnishings, mattresses etc. it’s nice looking with good lani furniture NOT uncomfortable plastic chairs or beat up tables.

9. spacious unit-​2 stories and lots of square footage
10. totally ocean front so that you feel like you are in your own private place up in the palm trees.
Cons: at this price point I expect luxury bedding or at least 100 percent cotton-​unit has polyester bedding. had a raggedy old blanket too – yuck ! the tv in the bedroom is so miniscule it was laughable-​why even have it in there?

Third night, and so far this has been a lovely experience. I’m the type of person who does extensive, agonizing research, (I stress myself out — I know it’s silly.) I’m always concerned about value, I hate feeling taken advantage of and a good/​bad accommodations can make or break a vacation for me.
I thoroughly researched VRBO, looked at every condo on TripAdvisor and researched which shore to stay on. I’ve been to Maui over 20 times and Kauai twice. I’m super pleased with Whalers Cove Resort. Marianne the manager, was above and beyond kind, very patient and re-​assuring when we had a tsunami warning during our stay. She answered all my incessant questions, even sending me pictures of the unit we inquired after. I’ve been burned before on promised ‘ocean views’ that turn out to be slivers of ocean between buildings, so it was so amazing to arrive and see panoramic views as promised.
The other place I called, Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach, Wyndham Grand Resort, were so rude on the phone that I cancelled booking there (the manager did respond, but I had already booked at Whalers Cove at that point.) It’s not as luxurious (in the chainy resort way) as the last place we stayed in Maui (Honua Kai — we generally stay someplace in Kaanapali), but it’s so relaxing, quiet, lovely views, super nice people. I will definitely stay again and hope to brings friends and family next time. My only tip would be to stay in the units that completely overlook the ocean, we have a pool view and then the ocean (unit 231), but it’s so gorgeous, that I almost don’t want to write this in case it seems like a complaint. I would easily stay in this room as well.
It’s not a flashy resort, but that’ s not a bad thing, just depends on what you want. The crowd is older (we are a couple in our early 30’s) but that means no screaming children, no overpriced pool drinks, no random resort fee, no mandatory valets and no pressure. Just relaxing. Which is why you came to Hawaii right? I will be staying here again, so happy to have found the perfect place. :)

We had a spectacular $ 1.7 million ocean front condo. Wow! Deceiving from the front. But wow. What a view. We didn’t want to leave. Just understand this is not a resort. The condos are privately owned. The Sheraton is nearby if you need some resort activity, but we much preferred the privacy of the condos. Rent your snorkling gear at any of the nearby vendors.
The inlet next to complex is great for snorkling. No sandy beaches, but thats expected on this island. Nice beaches 5 minutes away.
