Sun State Refrigeration

I had an issue installing a programmable thermostat. I called several places including Sunstate. Had to leave messages with most. Sunstate gave me a phone estimate for installation, came out within a couple of hours, and did the work to the price given. The technician named Rob was a very nice young man and did an excellent job. I think I just found my future AC and furnace company.

I’ve had four different ac people give my ac a tune up and everyone took 5 mins to look at it and then all wanted to up sell me afterwards, this didn’t happen this time they were very detailed in looking at my unit, they were honest about all they saw even showed me pictures of everything. I will be using them in the future

Was looking to get a new 5 ton unit for my house. Checked Unilocal for reviews and SunState came up with decent responses. Checked their website which showed it was a family run business, which I liked. Their website also stated «…covering Phoenix and Scottsdale Arizona and its Metropolitan areas». Sent them an email telling them what I needed and got a response back that ‘Our Company does not go out to the Apache Junction area’. Last I checked, AJ is part of the metro area. So, unfortunately we won’t be doing business.

My AC unit was having troubles on a 100+ degree day. At first I called a major brand that advertises on TV. After looking at them on Unilocal the reviews were horrible. I saw Sun State reviews were a perfect 5 stars and close to my home. I was also happy to hear they were a family owned and operated company. I decided to wait and have Sun State come to my house even though the temperature was rising inside. I am so happy I did too. The team was really professional and fixed the problem quick. If you need to have your AC unit check there is no one else to call.

FANTASTIC! These guys are great and they are honest! We were experiencing major issues with our A/​C unit and they were able to come right away to inspect the unit. In a matter of 5 – 10 mins they were able to tell us the problem and alternative solutions to fix it. Once we decided on which plan of action to take, they immediately went to work and fixed it. Didn’t take much time at all! I would 100% recommend this company to anyone experiencing A/​C issues.

I had a couple representatives from Sun State come out to my house recently because I was having some air distribution problems. Nice guys, but totally missed the real cause of my issues. I was charged for them to come «diagnose» the problem. They told me all I needed to do was adjust the registers in my house — close off some where the air was strong, thus pushing more air elsewhere. (Don’t you think I would have tried this?) They then proceeded to wrap up.
This is when I brought something to their attention that I figured they would check on their own, considering I was paying more than $ 100 for a small amount of their time. I asked them about ductwork in my attic, specifically, at which time they finally agreed to go up and take a look. They said an old cooler attachment was still there and they «taped it off» at no cost to me (apparently not nickel & diming someone is a kind gesture). I know enough to know that the old flex duct should have been removed and the hole sealed off properly.
I let them go on their way, knowing I would need to call someone else to actually fix my issues. I have since had my ductwork fixed by another company — quickly and inexpensively — who took time and found the issue without me having to point it out specifically. I don’t know much about being handy around the house, so I consider it pretty sad when I know enough to know someone else is wrong about an issue like this.
I was shocked at the lack of service, to say the least, given the other reviews on here. I don’t post reviews often or bother to say bad things about others or companies, but felt the need to speak my mind here.

I had a broken A/​C experience this week. In phoenix it’s pretty horrible to lose A/​C in Aug, so we called Sun State on Monday (⁸⁄₁₁). They came out the same day and investigated my unit outside… they discovered my fan motor was bad and my capacitor was going bad and replaced those. We all thought it’d be in great shape now, but no, that night it was still broken. No problem, I called them back and we discovered on Tuesday (⁸⁄₁₂) that my compressor was out. This unit was from 2002. I already had no hope in it, but Sean was confident it could be saved. He went back and got pricing for a new compressor but also for a new unit. We discovered a new unit would only cost me $ 200 more than doing the compressor and praying that it would hold out for a long time after that.
So I went with a new unit. They were good in that they gave me credit for the parts from the first repair and my new unit works amazing, I was back home the day it was installed (we left, too hot, It was put in Thursday ⁸⁄₁₄.) … I appreciated that they tried to fix my old one though before selling me a new one. Most places I hear just sell a new one and that’s it… they didn’t do that until it was the last resort, and they didn’t make me replace the inside fan and things too, either.
My only complaint is very minor. Kind of minor I guess. I got charged the labor for the installation of the motor and the capacitor. While I can see both sides to this: I feel like since that didn’t fix it, and I didn’t wind up with any of those parts, it felt slightly unfair to need to pay for that after also purchasing a new unit.
Everyone was very friendly and I would for sure use them again and recommend them, but paying for labor when nothing was actually done that fixed anything was sort of unfair to me, I do understand the techs need paid for their time, but I feel like the broken compressor should have been caught on the first trip…
Very nice company though, excellent workmanship (they said the old one’s installation was pretty bad, so I’m glad this one was done right, I wasn’t here when the old one got installed.)

This company is top notch in all regards, service, communication, knowledge, and quality work. They exceeded all my expectations. This is especially true because I have a home warranty which, in my prior experience with other trades, meant you were the end of the line customer and repairs on anything could take awhile. Not the case with Sunstate! They called immediately on the work order, gave a prompt service appointment and a tight time window when the tech would arrive. This in mid summer… amazing. Flawless and exceptional!

Sun State Refrigeration is excellent. I had a different A/​C company come out and do a tune up on my system, as it wasn’t running very well. After the tune up they had a list of repairs that they recommended. The prices seemed high. I did some research and after reading the great Unilocal reviews, I called Sun State. I asked them if they could quote me prices for the repairs the other company recommended. It wasn’t even close! Sun State’s prices were a third of the other company. Sun State came out the next day and did the repairs. They even recommended an additional repair and it was still way less than the other company. I am very impressed with the service and responsiveness of Sun State. I highly recommend them,

These guys were great! They came over and fixed the issue quickly. They even looked over a repair we had done on a different part of the unit a couple months before from another company, weren’t happy with what they saw and fixed that too! Good service!

Two words: Amazing service! My husband and I were super worried because we smelled some musty smells coming from the A/​C vents, and since we have a new baby I immediately was scared of mold in our house! My husband called Sun State Refrigeration and Dorena was professional and nice. Sun State Refrigeration was not only quick and prompt (they came to our house that within hours of our call), but they were professional and thorough with their examination and cleaning of our unit. Luckily, we ended up not having mold, however, our unit was in need of a heavy duty cleaning.
Mark was amazing! He went in and explained everything that was going on with our unit to my husband. I had thought the unit had been cleaned when we first moved in four years ago, but it turns out that the original folks we hired had not done a thorough cleaning. I am so glad that we called Mark and Sun State Refrigeration. I now feel confident that my system is clean and my baby is safe!

These folks are terrific. I had been having a problem with my AC unit — and had tried to figure out the problem after consulting two other well-​known HVAC companies. Sun was the only one who figured it out right away and corrected the problem. They are amazing to work with. I’d highly recommend them. And — they show up on time.
