Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream

I love Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream. I have the mint chocolate chip, chocolate and vanilla bean… All delicious. Perfect balance of richness and taste,
I have also had the sugar-​free vanilla and it is really good,., I wish they sold it at their stores.
We need to have a Dave’s closer to home… Dave, do you hear me? Kaimuki or Kahala would be great!

I came to this location cause I was having a major sweet tooth and it was the nearest ice cream shop at the time. The lady working wasn’t the friendliest person, but she was nice.
I asked for a sample of the Toasted Macadamia Nut and she made me a small sample using a Popsicle stick. After I tasted it, I asked if I could sample the Butter Pecan next. I was surprised when she asked for my Popsicle stick back. I was thinking, «is this lady about to double dip my used stick into that big batch of ice cream?!» I guess my face said it all because she grabbed the stick and said «no, I use clean side. Not wet.» Then she rubbed the «clean side» on the back of her palm to check if it was the right side.
I’m sorry but that just rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed pretty unprofessional. Are Popsicle sticks so expensive that you need to reuse it right after it’s been in my mouth? If it’s that much of an issue you guys should consider pre cutting your sticks in half. Also, she wasn’t wearing gloves when she prepared my ice cream. Yikes!
1 star for cleanliness. But I’m giving 2 cause the ice cream’s good.

Ice cream tasted gritty, they don’t give a big enough scoop for the price they charged. I used to love eating here but kind of disappointed

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Bought an Icee Float today (⁵⁄₂₁) and had 1 boy worker. He did not even give me a full scoop of ice cream that I pay $ 2.29 extra for! He gave me half a scoop not exaggerating at all! I was waiting for him to give me another half a scoop but nope! I think he gave up because it was kind of hard to make that scoop so I think he was just lazy and tired to do it. Very disappointed… that is all I can say…

I’ll give the ice cream a 5 but the service here brought it down. Typical yobo family that franchised the business… So I wasn’t expecting great service. She gave pretty good scoops of ice cream though, so that’s not too bad! Haha! She left us in he shop after scooping for a smoke break! Too funny!

If there was an option for 0 stars i would have chosen that. I really enjoy going to dave’s icecream but the asian lady that was working tonight at this location ruined my experience here this evening. Terrible customer service! Went in with my family right after chuckee cheese. I was helping my daughter open a parachute toy of hers and the woman assumed i was opening something from her fridge because she said she heard her fridge open. To clarify i was not near the fridge. She said we need to show her whatever we open in the store first before opening it. My wife had told her we do not need to show you a toy we purchased for our child and do not make assumptions and blame an honest person. She said no you need to show me so we walked out leaving her with no bussiness from us.

ERMEHGAWD!!! I seriously love their ice cream here. My favorite thing is that they have my FAVORITE ice cream in the world. And it’s one of those flavors I haven’t been able to find since I was a kid! Blue Moon aka COTTON CANDY!!! Oh myyyyy. Their ice cream is made with real cream and real sugar. You just can’t find this good of ice cream anymore!!! I love how they have a lot of flavors that are amazing. But I’m always going to stick with my blue ice cream. I also think this might be a fun place to take a girl on a date. Just saying!!!

Perfect spot right next to Chuck E Cheese’s Pearl City. I’m sure a lot of parents get suckered into this place after the party at CEC. My little lady had a scoop of cotton candy ice cream and it was good. reason for the 3 stars? the owner saw all of us walk in but left the store for whatever reason for about 5 – 10 mins with no one inside and came back to get us what we wanted without explaining anything about what happen… after about 10 mins, another family walks in but she doesn’t acknowledge them for couple mins until they call for her… kind of weird.

No stars… the worst service and ghetto spot on the island. Overpriced and disgusting in house creations. Owner looks like she’s on drugs do not even waste time or money here.

Family owned ice cream shop. Very friendly owner… she is very nice. Large scoops!

Visited this location to satisfy my dessert craving. However, my craving wasn’t satisfied, and in just a little disappointed. I ordered a halo halo as they were out of kulolo ice cream, but Their halo halo had no taste. I couldn’t even taste the ube ice cream.
On a side note, they did have a $ 3 green tea two scoop deal. My son just loves green tea so that was a deal.

I love Dave’s ice cream, I usually go here or to the one in Waipio for my fix. Lemon custard and Kulolo are my favorite flavors! If the parking lot is packed don’t forget about the two 15 minute stalls right outside of the store, it looks like handicap only but it’s not! They take cash or card and it’s definitely worth the price. I only eat ice cream here, Baskin Robbins, Ice Garden or at Bubbies.

Came this to Daves because the one in Aiea’s freezer was broken. They didn’t have all the flavors or waffle cones. I was craving something very specific so we found this place on Unilocal and headed over. Pleasantly surprised!!! Service was good. I got exactly what I wanted! They were cooking waffle cones when we walked in. Yummy! Will be coming back!

The lady recalculated my order correctly and let the price drop a few bucks. I thought that was sweet. This place is an original and has a story to it. The thing I love about this place is how the flavors are uniquely made in Hawai’i. This place is themed around old hawaii and still kept to it’s roots. That’s what I absolutely love about places like these. THEY AREN’T LIKE THOSE MASS INDUSTRY FRANCHISES.
When we went we got the banana split which came in a boat platter because we ate in. Then we got three cones, lemon custard, something with chocolate chips, and I got the kona coffee flavored ice cream. It’s been a month and only now am I doing the review so bare with me on the names.
The flavors were all good and were perfect for a hot muggy day just like two weekends ago when we had the tropical depression pass by. They even have water if you please. The parking here is okay. You should definitely have parking here no matter what so don’t worry about it.
Overall, I enjoyed this place and my GF’s nephew and niece definitely loved the fact that we passed by this ice cream parlor. I recommend this place to anybody who has a sweet tooth. This place is wayyyyyyy better than baskin robbins, DQ, cold stone or other sorts like these places.

So we stop in for a sweet treat. The service was not bad. She was sweet but didn’t give you that warm fuzzy feeling that you could truly sample to find the ice cream you really wanted.
The kids were tradition and simple. Chocolate with rainbow sprinkles, vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, and mint chocolate chip all in a waffle cone. I had the ube (sweet potato). The ice cream was ok, nothing overly special.
The place isn’t very clean. I think where my biggest issues came was when the woman running the counter sat at the table next to us eating crackers and cheese and when a customer came in, she took her snack, set it on the counter where they cut fruit for smoothies, didn’t wash her hands and served them. I have a pet peeve for being sanitary and that grossed me out. That was our last time there…

This is such a delicious little place right in the strip mall. The first time that I came here I remember leaving dinner and wanting something quick and sweet. We decided to try this local place because by the looks of it it looked yummy and I had not even checked Unilocal.We went ahead and got the macadamia nut ice cream and oh my gosh it was amazing. Their ice cream is so soft and you just want to be a piggy and eat it all up. Definitely will be coming here soon. Super delicious and better yet… local!

The lady behind the counter seriously made us feel like we were in her home having ice cream with her. We loved it there!

I *love* Dave’s Ice Cream. In fact, I used to work for Dave’s ice cream when they first opened in the 80’s. I learned a lot about ice cream and customer service while working for Dave’s.
I spy with my little eye while running errands in Aiea /​Pearl City, a Dave’s Ice cream shop. I decided to stop in to buy my mom (and myself) some ice cream, because that is her favorite. I ordered us each a double scoop — mom got Lychee Sorbet and Coconut Macadmia Nut. I got Coconut Macadamia Nut and Chocolate Macadamia Nut.
I asked the young lady behind the counter to please put the ice cream in a larger container, so that 1) the ice cream wouldn’t be smashed together, and 2) I was traveling 30 – 45 minutes before the ice cream was going to be eaten. She happily complied.
The ice cream taste hasn’t changed over the years. However, I have two minor complaints about the ice cream:
First, the scoops of ice cream were very inconsistent. Typical ice cream scoops are generally around 4 oz. a cone. I previously worked at Daves and I’ve scooped over 1000 ice cream cones. The first scoop on the bottom was the adequate size, but the scoop on the top was very skimpy. The second scoop that we got (in both cups) was at least 50% smaller than the first scoop. I feel like I got shorted by at least 2 oz for one scoop.
Second, I found several bits of freeze-​dried ice cream in the scoops. Typically each night, the store should scrape down and wipe down the sides of the ice cream bins. Otherwise, there are leftover clumps of ice cream that dry on the side and they begin to pick up flavors of the freezer. ICK. I found several chunks of this dried ice cream in both the coconut macadamia nut and chocolate macadamia nut ice creams. ICK.

How did I not know about this place. I was craving Ube Ice Cream and decided to search for it on Unilocal.This is the first place that popped up.
When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised. Along with the regular flavors, they have UBE and KULOLO. Both were good. The Kulolo even has little chunks of Kulolo mixed in. The funny thing is that both flavors taste similar. Purple sweet yam versus sweetened taro. It was kinda funny, but both were delicious. Try them out for a different experience.
There were a few other flavors that I wanted to try. They also make bubble drinks and halo halo. I’ll be going back to taste their other flavors.
