Angelisse Karol Color & Design

Pretty amazing experience. We will be painting the interior of our house and we wanted to pick colors that we would be happy with for the long haul. Angelisse came over and in one hour was able to help us pick colors that we BOTH loved. Who knew there could be 10,000 variations of beige or that my yellow walls had strong green tones? She also gave us tips on our floors, window treatments and a whole lot more. When I asked how she knew so much about color she said her mother and grandmother were painters and she studied color in art school. This is a woman with a gift. Final cost: $ 240. So worth it.

! My Fiancé (now husband) and I were completely renovating his condominium which had not been touched since the 1980’s. Neither of us had any experience. It was my idea to look for a interior designer, my husband was resistant due to the cost.
I went to Unilocal; I chose Angelisse because of all the consistently positive reviews she received.
We were not disappointed. We originally thought we only needed her for choosing color schemes (which were amazing) but she helped us in almost ever aspect of our remodel. Her assistance in choosing kitchen cabinits, countertops, bathroom vanities flooring etc relieved so much stress. Because Angelisse has over 30 years experience she has built up relationships with other business owners which meant we did not have to do the search in finding the suppliers we needed. We also were able to take advantage of her great discounts. We were very satisfied by her referrals and recommendations. We have been in our new remodeled home for a month now, and everyday we are so happy we had Angelisse’s help.

Ms. Karol’s work may be top notch, but it is worth noting that her prices have increased from those quoted in earlier reviews. I called her for color selection help and she quoted me $ 400 for a 1-​hour appointment or $ 620 for the 2-​hour consultation she recommended. She said that any parking charges would be additional and I’m not sure about bridge tolls or gas. She said she might charge me less if I was closer (I’m 11 miles away, 21 minute drive per Google Maps). I don’t fault her for charging as much as she can, but since she doesn’t list rates on her web site, mentioning them here may help save some people time.

I love color. I like it big and bold and fully saturated, but I don’t often get it t right, so I work with Angelisse when I need to paint my house or garden. She is brilliant, she’s fast, she sees amazing amounts of detail, and each time she chooses colors that I love, and that work with everything in my rooms and garden. Recently, following a pre-​Angelisse, cringe worthy foray into house trim (see above about not getting it right), I called Angelisse for a fix. I live next to a house that is painted in about eleven different colors and I wanted my house to hold it’s own, refer respectfully to the colors next door, but not defer to them.
We finished repainting all the trim, windows and doors of my house and garden and each time I look around, I“m happy. The colors are happy, and they make all my stuff look good. She pulled everything together.
I also echo the Benjamin Moore discount advantage. I happen to live close to the store, so it’s convenient, but the savings from Angelisse’s discount really pays the consulting fee.
I think it’s rare to meet someone who had both global vision and is detail oriented, but Angelisse is one of those people.
P. S. several of my friends have used Angelisse, too, and, while they have very different color sensibilities, when I visit their homes, I am also filled with harmony, with beauty.

I have used Angelisse 3 times to help choose interior and exterior home colors. Both of us, being from the east coast, can work quickly and get so much accomplished in an hour or hour and a half. I suggest that you have ideas about what you want and she will tweak them for you.
She also goes around my house and looks to see if something is not right. For example, a painting in the wrong place or something hung too high.

We went with Angelisse as she is a color consultant as well as an interior designer. We wanted her opinion on furniture placement, space planning, specific item choices and so forth. We were hesitant about hourly consultations but her team assured us that Angelisse was very thorough. Her first hour was just spent touring through the home with what we felt was very loose on specifications. To the end of 3 hours I got some color recommendations. She was spot on on the colors, but after 3 hours and additional hours charge for driving, I didn’t feel like I got the value. She could be great if you just want color recommendations.

I am a professional organizer and when I was faced with painting my own condo, I realized that I wanted the advice of a professional color consultant. I wish I had scheduled a consult before I spent money on paint samples I bought on my own. Once Angelisse arrived, we quickly went room by room and came up with a beautiful color palate that coordinated throughout the unit. She passed her discount at the paint store on to me so I saved quite a bit on Benjamin Moore paints. I am now happy to give her name to my clients when they are looking for paint color consult.

East Bay Paint Center told us that besides quality paint and painting it would be the best money we’d ever spend. Guess what? They were right!

My wife and I were planning to paint the interior of our house and had this idea of a «mountain forest» theme downstairs and a «desert sunset» theme upstairs. We both had ideas in our heads of what that would look like. Conflicting ideas, of course, since we are married.
Angelisse has lots of experience with what works well and saved us from things which sounded good in our heads but would have been jarring on our walls. She also helped us, with dozens of color samples, pick colors that we both liked.
My wife is much better than I am at visualizing how colors will look. I have to actually see the colors in place. If it had been up to me, I would have gone with bright emerald greens and deep lake blues with a ceiling painted blue as the sky (and, in my heart of hearts, even with poofy clouds painted on, like the ceiling of the Boulevard in The Paris in Las Vegas). Sigh. Angelisse gently let me know that the place would wind up looking like a nursery school.
But she also gently helped my far-​more-​expert wife see that some ideas she had wouldn’t work that well either. She guided us to colors that we could agree on, holding swatches up to the wall together so we could see how they worked.
If you are not the alpha in your relationship, be sure you speak up. Angelisse is not a mind reader or a marriage counselor. She at first worked just with my wife and I felt lost. All the greens they were looking at looked like grey to me. But as soon as I spoke up, Angelisse took care to work with both of us.

Angelisse came by quickly for our building repainting project and figured out the original colors that has long faded over.
Updated one of the colors too and the building is looking sparkly!
Money well spent!

Angelisse is a serious talent. I struggled for months with the warring colors in my office. Other consultants and artists had been unable to find a paint color that would work with everything else we have going on in the space.
Angelisse came in and nailed it in about 10 minutes. Then she helped me rearrange furniture and rehang art. And finally we had time to just hang out for a bit. Not only is she good at her job, she’s efficient and fun to be around.
Her color choices turned out to be perfect. I get compliments on my office all the time.

We started working with Angelisse when we recently moved and were working to repaint the interior of our house. My wife and I were struggling with seeing past the previous colors and hard to match woodwork. Angelisse transformed the house. She was able to combine the feel we wanted for the house while complimenting the existing architecture and took great care to ensure the color choices transitioned well from room to room. We remain amazed at the results and her ability to turn our new house into a home. Her extensive expertise in art and color is immediately apparent (and invaluable). We hired Angelisse to help us with the kitchen in our new home, which had turquoise formica countertops, yellowish wood cabinets, linoleum with muted pink, turquoise and taupe accents, and walls that had been painted a dull taupe. We don’t currently have the money for a complete remodel, but we wanted to make changes that would tide us over until we could, and to get some ideas that we could build on for when we *can* do a complete remodel.
Without going into too much detail, Angelisse gave us a number of great ideas, then helped us pick out colors to paint the kitchen cabinets and walls, explaining why she was recommending the choices she was, thereby teaching us some basics in interior design (not our strong point). She was also able to recommend a fantastic painter, who had great attention to detail. Now that the work has been done, we are so happy with our new (but not really new) kitchen. One day we will have the budget for a complete makeover, but until then, we are happy with how much brighter, cleaner, happier it looks.
In terms of professionalism, Angelisse arrived on time, she was easy to work with, she did not waste time, was on message and efficient. I recommend Angelisse absolutely, without hesitation.

We were going to put some new countertops in our kitchen and repaint. Based on previous Unilocal reviews, we decided to contact Angelisse to help us with colors. We had a tile floor we didn’t want to replace, and had found some granite that we liked a lot, so how should we paint?
As soon as she arrived, we found out why one of the Unilocalers had said «Angelisse is an artist.» She has amazing vision! She looked around the kitchen and the rest of the living area, immediately got a sense of both what we liked and what would look good in our house, and she started talking. (As someone else said, be sure to have a pen and paper – the ideas just pour out!) She had so many great suggestions, including things that would cost us more money but really look perfect (a farm sink), and things that would save us money («those cabinets don’t need to be replaced»). As we talked, she was completely tuned in to us, offering choices and understanding why we liked some of them better than others, honing in on what would look best to us and how far we were willing to go to get it. By the end of the hour with her, we had a completely new idea of what we wanted for the kitchen.
She also provided us with an extensive list of suppliers she recommended for fixtures, tile, etc. Many of them offered discounts for her clients, and we actually saved enough on these discounts to pay for her consultations.
The kitchen is done now (finally!), and we love it. And we’re writing this review to say that the consultation with Angelisse was the best investment we made. SO worth it!

Just another voice here saying I didn’t know how bad I needed her until she came and helped me. Just like other reviewers I have dreamed sometimes for years about what color to paint something, and luck, more than skill entered into it. I thought my exterior would look good in this color, but nope, and the paint is all bought.- Now I can say truthfully I will never consider painting until I talk to Angelisse. She offered to come back after the paint job and help me hang the paintings. GOOD IDEA! Compared to the hassle of painting, let alone the cost, she is an incredible deal. She does mind read, too, and whatta gift. I LOVE the color of my recently painted downstairs and I had no idea what color I wanted and why. I knew what I didn’t want! In a word, WOW.

We’ve all been there — -standing around with 3 expensive paint cans full to the brim of shades we DON’T want and crazy zebra lines on our walls from all the swatch tests. After years of folly and paying my dues, I have learned the hard and costly way, and now, I just get it RIGHT the first time.
Angelisse is an artist with an «e» on the end, as in artiste. She isn’t some designer who read a few magazines and thinks she knows all about color and design. She is a trained, educated, and experienced professional who happens to come from a family full of creative talents. She looks at your space and design choices from a global perspective and selects colors that seamlessly tie your areas together, to balance your cabinets or floors or tile or throw pillows or drawer hardware, etc… she truly takes all of your interior elements into consideration so that the paint is this flawless backdrop for it all. It’s funny, you don’t notice the actual paint when it’s done, you just see how lovely the «space» is and that is because her colors just enhance and accent your interiors or exteriors so fluidly.
I have gotten asked countless times for my paint shades and I’m actually reluctant to give them out because they are so special and hard earned!
Angelisse also has an endless cache of design ideas and offers consulting as well. Oftentimes it’s happening whether you asked or not — if she spies a project in the works, and it could be as innocent as business card for a tile shop, she can’t help but ask where you are going with it, and suddenly you’re racing for a pen to capture all these creative ideas that are spilling out of her so fast. So be ready and have a writing instrument and paper at all times!
If you are looking for color consultation for any type of project, from the exterior of your house, to interior rooms, to furnishings, fixtures, etc., working with Angelisse is the best investment you can make.
You will nail your color and design choices from the start and spare yourself the frustration of full paint cans that you have to take special care to dispose of or find a school project to donate it to!

Angelisse not only came to the house, but she sent colour samples after her visit. They were a useful size and we could look at them in different lights at different times of the day.

Absolutely fabulous! She picked the vibrant colors for my workplace with some guidance from us and we get raves from most of the people who come in. They notice how warm and inviting the colors are without being «high pitch» or too cheery. She really nailed the colors and even the way she mapped them out so that you could see different colors from different directions is genius.
Would recommend Angelisse without any hesitation at all.

Given the state of the economy, I thought I’d be useful for a change and write some reviews of excellent small businesses I’ve used in the past. (Also, gwynnie p. guilted me in to it.)
Who better to start with than the woman who saved my marriage for a mere $ 200. Yeah, you heard me, all you $ 175-​per-​hour-​marriage-​counselor-​quacks.
When we remodeled the kitchen last year and got to the point where we were picking backsplash tiles and wall colors, we had a couple of really brutal fights.
Me: Um, hon, I really don’t think brown walls will go with these blue and red glass tiles you’ve brought home.
She: The tiles are just samples. We don’t have to use them.
Me: Ok, well, I really don’t think I want brown walls in the kitchen AT ALL.
She: Why can’t you be like other men and just ignore the damn colors? (And also something faintly muttered calling in to question my sexual orientation.)
The painter witnessed a couple of these «discussions» and recommended we call Angelisse Karol. By this time, I was so weary of fighting over nonsense that I completely bowed out of the process, but this was 200 bucks very well spent. As I understand it, she came to the house, looked around the kitchen, threw up 3 large color pages, and said «Pick one.» So Mrs. Z picked one.
And that’s the color we painted the kitchen walls. Mrs. Z complained to me at the time that she felt a little railroaded, but I just smiled, knowing that if she wasn’t railroaded, she’d still be agonizing over the wall paint, and I’d still be complaining. And she now admits it looks great.
And it’s light brown by the way.
Oh dear god, did I just review a Color Consultant? I really AM gay.
