I asked for slight shaping, keep my hair relatively long, but add small layers so it looked better when I let it air-​dry. I now have completely uneven layers – on one side the short layer is 6 inches above the long layer, on the other side it’s about 3. It looks terrible, particularly when I do let it air-​dry. I will not be returning.
To be fair, I loved it when I first walked out of the salon. My stylist blew it out and curled parts of it, so it hid the misshapen layers. It wasn’t until the curls fell out that I realized the damage that had been done.

I purchased a lifebooker deal about 3 years ago for a Brazilian wax & I have been a loyal customer ever since! Adriana is the best! She makes you feel as comfortable as you can be and she does a great job every time! I’ve referred her to all my friends and family and they’re just as devoted to her as I am!

Upon entering I am immediately asked to have my coat taken and then offered a beverage. Roman has been my stylist of choice and always knows what I want at each haircut. He can also tell when i am or am not in a mods to chat during the haircut and responds accordingly. He always does a fantastic job and is relatively cheaper than his competitors. I definitely recommend trying him out.

I can’t speak for the skill or quality of their services because it was literally IMPOSSIBLE for me to make an appointment here. Either they didn’t answer the phone, were closed, or were about to close – all four times I tried to book my appointment. It was so inconvenient I forgot about buying my Lifebooker deal for two months; just went online to book my appointment and saw that it is EXPIRED. What?! What year is this? It’s been 6 months since I bought it. And when Lifebooker called O&J they refused to refund or honor the deal.
I quit Lifebooker and boycott this salon and their terrible customer service all in one evening.

No bueno. $ 25 deal for a mani/​pedi (via Lifebooker) is pretty good for midtown but this mani/​pedi was the longest of my life. 1.5 hours plus extra time to dry nails! And frankly it looks a bit sloppy with bits of polish here and there on the cuticles. It’s been a day and the manicure is already beginning to chip. Lastly a $ 25 deal had an additional $ 3 tax charge at the salon. That’s a 12% tax!

I am no mani-​pedi snob in any sense of anything at all. Probably my third time getting a manicure and second time getting a pedicure. I don’t know how these ladies do it — I guess it’s just like how people don’t understand how I deal with teeth, I just don’t get how they deal with feet. I have a thing with my feet… they’re wide and flat and my nails are thick or thin or thick and thin on the same toe or ripped off because I have a problem. And in comes Adrianna to the rescue to make my toes nice and pretty and my feet nice and soft. Well, most of it — I had to file off the rest of my callous at home, but I was already feeling pretty embarrassed with my feet and everything she got off of it.
The experience was quite nice. A little awkward because I’m not used to it, but very fast with no pain. Adrianna was nice the whole time and obviously knew what she was doing. It’s probably not the best manicure in the world because some of my nails are streaky with nail polish on my cuticles, but I’m happy. I’m ready to go to Hawaii! Wooo :)

I don’t go and get a mani-​pedi very often because I’m a student and it’s a luxury, but I had an event this weekend and decided to try it out! I booked with Lifebooker, and although I was nervous due to some poor reviews, I was willing to take a chance!
I’m glad I did because Flora was extremely nice and patient with me — it’s really the first time I’ve had a lengthy conversation with a manicurist, as they normally aren’t very chatty. She took her time, which I really appreciated, and even gave me input on colors based on the dress I planned on wearing, since this is a rarity for me.
My only deduction is that the dryers are cold and take a very long time to set the polish. This is a small thing, but allot some time to drying overall! This is definitely not a mark against Flora though, who was wonderful! The receptionist was also very nice and accommodating. Everyone I talked to at the salon was friendly.
Overall my nails are still in great condition and I’m extremely happy with the result!

great atmosphere, the owners are very friendly and accomodating. I was sat down and they really explained my hair to me in a way that no other stylist/​barber ever has and it was very refreshing to know why certain things had to be done.
Other than that, they’re very easy to get along with, the place is decorated with some great art, there is lots of space, and they have amazing prices for the quality of service you get.
This is my new place to get my haircut.
**They said they will be temporarily moving to a close by salon while they do renovations, but the same numbers will work.

I moved to the Times Square/​Bryant Park area a few years ago and was ecstatic to find Onyx and Jade — otherwise known as Allyssa and Roma. They are a brother and sister team who opened the salon a few years ago, and are as hands on as any owners can be and it shows in their work and attitude. I only come for mens haircuts and color, but can honestly say that I see many of the same female repeat customers who are very satisfied with their cuts and styles, so I would highly recommend this place for women as well. If you are not satisfied with the treatment you received, they will do everything within reason to make you happy, and you will enjoy your time there (they DO offer complimentary beverages and hot towels)
My only complaint, if you were to deem it as a complaint, is that its sometimes difficult to get a last minute appointment, and due to religious reasons they are closed on Saturdays, which means if you want something done for Thursday or Friday, you need to book a few days in advance. That is a small price to pay for a Very satisfactory experience

I booked a cut & blowout with Bianca via lifebooker and had my appointment on a Sunday afternoon. I arrived 15 minutes early but only waited about 5 minutes — and was offered a beverage meanwhile — before getting shampooed. During my shampoo the scalp massage was fantastic and totally relaxed me.
Bianca listened to what I wanted with my hair — I didn’t ask for suggestions and she didn’t try to talk me into anything I didn’t want, which was great. At other salons I have unfortunately been talked into doing the wrong things with my hair! Bianca spent a full hour cutting and blowing out my hair so I was perfectly styled when I left — I couldn’t believe she spent that long on me — the appointment was $ 39 which is practically unheard of for a cut and blowout in NYC unless you are being rushed through!
I was very pleased with the service I received from all the staff and will definitely be booking again for my next cut. The salon itself isn’t the swankiest place but I was comfortable there and the price was perfect for me.

My coworker and I came here for the Spa Mani and Pedi offering. When, we arrived the lady at the front desk was busy chatting on her personal phone instead of helping us. And was extremely rude, when we tried talking to her a couple of times. Then we had to sign an agreement form, that we waive any liability from the spa. I thought that was weird, since they only thing they offered us was coffee, espresso or water. We had the first appointment of the day apparently, as our technician was running late and we had to wait almost and hour for her and there wasn’t any other customers.
Flora was very nice and talkative. She was very attentive to our hands and feet. She did a nice job getting rid of all the hard skin and cuticles. I also like that when she made a mistake she redid it and you didn’t even have to ask her. My mani didn’t even last a week and pedi last about 1.5 week but my co worker’s mani/​pedi lasted way longer than mines. I am guessing the color I picked was to blame as it was a bit streaky.
The only thing I didn’t like was towards the end, the place got a bit busy so she was rushing. A word of warning, if you have an appointment call and see if your technician is there and try to get the early appointment because Flora really took her time with you when no one else there. She spent almost 1 hour on me but the other person after me wasn’t as lucky.

I received a gift certificate for this service. Easy making an appointment.
I was greeted warmly and I was assisted hanging up my coat.
The manicurist pointed to the nail polishes, and I selected one. She signaled me to sit down in a pedicure chair, and where to place my feet. She grunted and pointed. Imagine my surprise when 20 minutes later she spoke English!!!
Her technique was lacking, too much pressure on my nail beds. I’ve never experienced discomfort from a manicure. ONLY one foot was massaged, and ONLY on hand was lotioned! ??? This was the longest mani-​pedi ever without any spa like features.
When the manicure was finished, she sat me in front of the nail dryers without turning them on. No assistance with anything

I purchased a lifebooker spa mani-​pedi voucher and was finally able to go here this Sunday. The place is quite run down (I learned it has been around for only 3 years), but the upkeep has clearly not been great. While my manicurist /​pedicurist was friendly and did a good job — I thought it personally took too long for the service offered. Apart from the callous remover she used on my feet, I am not really sure what else was «spa-​like» about the service. There were no tea or beverages offered, the music was Top 40’s from a few years ago, the ambiance was dingy at best. Even the equipments that you use to dry your nails were covered with dust.
Even with the discounted service, I would rather go to a 20 $ mani /​pedi place than come all the way here. I live in Battery Park, personally I thought it was not worth making a trip all the way to Midtown.

I’ve been coming here for a long time. Mad I never wrote a review. Found this place on lifebooker when I decided I was going to change my look from the typical Cesar shape up to a more adult spiked up look. Was nervous going into this new change, but Roma hooked me up and I’ve been loyal ever since. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted so I let him take control and he designed a style that fit me. Dope environment, cool staff and convenient location.
Only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is, even with the lifebooker discount shit is pricey for a dude to be paying for a cut. Roma is good and I trust him so i’ll keep that little dent in my wallet for now.

Great company, he insisted on me keeping my phone out of reach — which was difficult with it being noon and in the middle of a busy day of real estate! However, he was right, 30mins of no phone didnt hurt — I felt so relaxed.

This is based only on the mani/​pedi experience as I am a regular Brazilian wax customer and could not rave more about my experience in that sector.
the mani/​pedi was not good. I bought it through lifebooker as I do all my appointment w Onyx. When she was about to put on the color, I asked if I should «pay now» as my paint job would be wet and she said had no idea why that made any sense??? The gentleman who works the front and appears to be an owner who is always very friendly and accommodating, overheard and understood my question and helped me pay right away.
The paint job was THICK, after almost 10 min of waiting these suckers were still dripping wet! I had to leave as I was only on a lunch break and she complained that I needed to go.
When I asked if she would wrap my feet, again she had no idea what I was talking about.
It is very common to pay before the paint job, and very common in months where your feet are in shoes to have saran wrap around your toes to help keep the paint job in place.

I have come back here two times for a root touch up since my initial visit and Alyssa always matches the color to my base exactly right and DOES NOT mess up my highlights or touch them at all.
All this, despite the fact that I typically get my base & highlights done elsewhere (I’m a big believer in groupon /​lifebooker deals so I usually go wherever I find the best deal with good Unilocal reviews)
Icing on the cake? Although a blow out isn’t included – they’ll still dry your hair so you don’t leave with dripping wet hair :)

Onyx & Jade was my go-​to place for mani/pedi’s, but I won’t go there again. During my last visit, the woman scraped two of my toes when she was cleaning the cuticles. I asked her to stop because of the pain, but I couldn’t see why it was hurting. She said that it likely was my shoes — perhaps they were too tight.
I found that a bit ridiculous since I came in wearing heels that I’ve had for months. The next day, two small scabs appeared on those two toes. She had scrapped my skin so much that it scabbed!
I wouldn’t recommend coming here for mani/​pedis. I’ve never come here for anything else, so I can’t’ speak to the other services they provide.

After watching a marathon of Jerseylicious, I decided my hair was really boring and logged onto Lifebooker in search of a good deal. I booked an appointment at O&J for the next day for partial highlights for only $ 52.
I was a little early for my appointment but only had to wait a few minutes and was offered a cappucino, which I thought was really nice. Alyssa took me and immediately started criticizing my hair as soon as I was seated. As another reviewer mentioned, some hairstylists are very judgemental, but I felt pretty insulted. Yes, my hair had been colored previously and may not be perfect, but salon trips are a treat for me and I felt very on edge there. What really set me off was a negative remark about NJ after I told her where I live– what gives? Some hairdressers should be seen and not heard.
My highlights are uneven in color (some almost bleach blond, others barely noticeable) and some start 2 inches from the root. To be fair, Alyssa did mention that because my hair was previously dyed, the highlights would be uneven in tone. However, I’m sure there are plenty of other clients without virgin hair who want highlights and receive a better result.
The best part of my visit was the scalp massage I received by the hair washer.

I’m going to let you in on a secret: I don’t have a regular stylist. I haven’t had one since I was a kid since I’ve lived in so many different areas and a poor student can’t afford styling services in major cities. Usually, I’ve just gone to Supercuts or some other place that will do what I want, let me pay & then go on my merry way.
Fortunately, a friend referred me to Lifebooker & I found a deal for this place on Lifebooker. Seeing as I’ve been told I should get a more «hip, modern» haircut & needed something low maintenance as well some inches off (my hair gets long enough to eventually be annoying), I figured now would be the perfect time to see about going to a professional stylist who would be able to give me the cut I want even if I didn’t have a picture or a precise idea of just what should be done.
Everyone here was friendly and Alyssa was great. I was able to get a good cut that would cover what I needed done and looked great for this party I went to later on. I always felt spending money on my hair was an extravagance. In my defense, my family & friends are not the sort that have generally gone to fancy salons so this is my first actual experience in such a location & dealing with an actual styling professional I could trust to use his/​her judgment.
I have to say it was a good move on my end. I am happy with the results, liked the free cappuccino I got & if it’s not too big of a financial burden in the future, I would certainly return & consider making this my regular hair place.
