Zoog Hair Studio

I go to ZOOG for one reason, and that reason is Danny! Danny has been my hairdresser for years and I just love him! He knows my style, what I like, but he encourages me to be adventurous enough to make a change, while still feeling comfortable about it. Got a different haircut and partial highlights this weekend, and was showered with compliments at work this morning. Danny is the best!

Great experience! They’re only a block away and I needed a trim badly. Staff was great and accommodating as I did not have an appointment and limited time during my lunch break, but they took me within minutes and I got the best cut from Ziada. She gave me exactly the cut I needed. I’ll definitely be back here!

Ok guys, I Never Write Reviews on Unilocal,but this place is so awesome, that I decided to write one.
So I came all the way from Germany for a mini vacation and thought I give this place a shot and I have to say: Best decision ever!
Olga worked on my 3B African American type of hair and gave me nice summery low lights and I am absolutely thrilled!
She is a magician, I am telling you! Check her out, you won’t be disappointed!

Sebastian is incredibly friendly and professional. He certainly knows what he is doing. I had a wonderful experience, he was able to book me the same day I contacted him. Ever since I moved here over a year ago, I have been looking for someone who really knows eyebrows. I am so happy to have found Sebastian. THE BEST!

Had Linda today for cut and blow out. LOVED HER and completely trusted her. She was not scissor happy, and did exactly how I asked. I will definitely be coming back.

After a few bad experiences trying to find a stylist in NYC who knows what she is doing — I feel so relieved to have found Olga! She truly understands the science behind hair and not just «making you look good as you walk out of the salon»! I look forward to going back. Oh, and ask for Margarita if you are getting your hair washed — the best!

For the best blowout for any type of hair, you must go to zoog and ask for Olga!!! She’s very knowledgeable and most importantly, she loves what she does and it comes through her work! Any type of blowout, whatever style you are trying to achieve, she can do it. Especially the Victorias secret bombshell blowout!

Today I woke up looking like a slob and knew that I had an promo event in the evening after my job. I randomly called this salon close to my office, read some reviews and made an appt with Carolina. When she was done with me I walked out of that salon feeling so much better about myself. She gave me an awesome hair cut and blow out. I showed/​told her what I wanted and although it wasn’t exactly like the picture (cuz my hair texture was so different then what was in the picture) she still made my hair look amazing. I haven’t found a person in over two years that I liked since this salon on 36^th street closed. It’s a little pricey but for a haircut i love i am willing to pay the Manhattan prices and tip well. I will def be going back. Thanks Carolina!

I thought that I had a great experience going on in this salon and kept saving my money to get a trim with what I thought friendly and funny and talented owner Daniel. He corrected my hair after Lucy chopped it off and kept going back to him ever since. He worked on my long hair with precision and I loved it. However, during my last visit which I was looking so much forward to, I experienced shock with his attitude and his sarcasm. He gave me such an attitude and to my comment that he didnt cut it as the picture I showed him (he is usually good with being precise but this time I guess he was annoyed for reason unknown to me) he said that he can’t change my face to be like in the picture! Then kept going off at me for getting a cut for «only 47.50 $’ and not getting a blowdry! (I was rushing to go back to work and had not time for blowdry).
Totally rude and hurt my feelings and ruined the great experience I needed after a stressful morning.
I bragged to my friends about his place, I recommended them and spoke about his talent.
My day was ruined and it added to the morning stress I had prior to coming to his salon because I had received such a bad attitude and practically felt guilty for spending ‘ONLY 47.50 $’ but he doesnt take in consideration that people work hard for their money. Dont hurt someone’s feelings and dont take it on them if you have a bad day. This kind of service and place can make someone’s bad day and make them happy. After all service is what keeps paying your bills.
Since my 47.50 $ was not good enough for him I will take it to someone else who will appreciate the business and loyalty and wont be sarcastic and mean to a customer.
What really amazes me is that he is the owner and he out of all people should be aware of providing a good service and what loyalty brings to your business. All I remember from that visit is the bad energy and bad attitude from him and me just thanking him on top of that for service walking away ready to cry and not wanting to deal with him ever again.

Ask for Linda! You will NOT go wrong. She is awesome. Her highlights come out perfectly each time and her trims leave my hair fuller and healthier. Highly reccomend her!

Patrick is the best!
I went to Zoog for the first time today and I will definitely be back! I work close by, and as you probably know, midtown salons can be a bit snooty and overpriced. I got an excellent cut in a nice, clean shop with super friendly staff for a reasonable price, and it is in a great location ta boot. What more can one ask for?
Orlando did a terrific job washing my hair, and Patrick who cut my hair, was just a doll! He cut my hair exactly as I asked, and it came out better than I had imagined. It is tough finding someone who is skilled in working with short hair and who can cut it well, giving it the volume it needs and not just blowing it out like a cartoon character to achieve that volume. Patrick did just that.
When I came on here to review Zoog I was surprised with some of the reviews. It is my understanding that Patrick and some of the other staff members are new to the shop (as of April) so don’t let the old, poor reviews of this place deter you. While I can’t vouch for everyone here, I can say that if you ask for Patrick, you will not be disappointed.

I went here for a simple blow out. They did just what i asked for… some places just want to use a flat iron to make things smoother but I’m not a fan. The person I had didn’t need to do that and did what I asked. Very happy and my hair came out great. I was done in 1 hour… just enough time to get back to the office.
Cost is $ 35.00 and yes if your not familiar many please in NY charge by the length of your hair… so be warned.

Carolina is fantastic! I am Dominican with very curly hair and struggle to find a a stylist that can dominate the frizz. With Carolina it’s no longer an issue. She’s fast (medium length hair wash & blow in under 45 minutes) so I can go during my lunch break AND personable but doesn’t talk your ear off lol. After searching for years to find a good stylist in midtown Manhattan, she’s finally saved me! As for the salon, it’s very clean and efficient which is all I ask for!

I’m devastated. I was told this salon is best at doing ombrés, and Steve ruined my hair! He had no idea what he was doing, while bleaching my hair he was asking other hairstylist opinions on what he should do with my hair. He also does not know how to correctly blow dry curly hair. Waste of money! I’m forced to look for another salon to correct his mistake because I DO NOT trust Zoog Hair Studio to fix it. I would not recommend this salon to anyone.

For a quick bill, this place was a great impromtu escape from the hustle and bustle of my life. I walked in, requested my hair to be blown out, and the stylist perfected the style I was trying to capture the first, second, and third time I attempted to do my own hair that morning. In 1.5 hours I walked out feeling like woman!

I bought a deal on bloomspot for full highlights and a haircut and ran into a lot of trouble trying to book an appointment like the other reviewers… When I finally came in the lady was nice and did a decent job on my highlights but you could tell she had somewhere to be and definitely rushed my cut at the end.

I’ve never been real fussy about my hair. It’s hard enough for me to get my lazy ass out of bed in the morning and get to work on time having SHOWERED, let alone blow drying, brushing, or styling my hair. I color it myself most of the time and would never pay the ridiculous amounts some people do to make their hair look good; but alas, I needed a cut badly and figured I’d throw in some highlights.
Karien did a fabulous job. I essentially said, I have a groupon for full highlights and a cut, I have a ton of hair, I have a meeting in 2 hours I can’t miss, and I have no real idea what I want done. GO.
She dry cut my hair first to cut down my appointment time. She essentially picked the length for me, layered it as she saw fit, picked the color of my highlights (without showing me the book, which I thought was odd, but I trusted her). Even with my hair being various shades of dye, I came out of it all looking great with caramel highlights and light layers. And she even put a toner and leave-​in conditioner on free of charge. My hair feels like butter in a really sexy non-​fattening way… Afterwards she trimmed for precision on the wet ends, and did a 30 second blow dry before I had to dash out the door because I was late.
I got great service, which I’m never sure of when using a groupon, and Karien was a doll to talk to. It’s an easy walk from my office, but even if you aren’t a close distance I would still recommend.

Have you ever walked out of a salon and thought, «Wow, he/​she did not do what I asked for at all?!». That’s what happened to me. I used a Groupon here because I’m new to the city and didn’t have a regular stylist yet. Kariena did my hair. First of all, she was 40 minutes late. I was willing to put that aside because I wasn’t in a big rush. What I am not willing to put aside is the way my hair turned out.
I asked for golden highlights and showed her a picture of Lily Aldridge. She even told me she loved it when people show her pictures. Don’t know why because she didn’t do what I showed/​asked for at all! The color was a good 3 — 4 shades lighter than I wanted. Don’t love it but I could live with it and she offered for me to come back during the week so she could fix it since she realized it was off. But what really gets me is how much of my hair, that I’ve been growing out for a good 2 years, she cut. I asked for a trim. I got a good 2 ½ inches chopped off — and lopsided none the less. One side was much more thinned out than the other and she took forever trying to get it to look right and finally said she doesn’t know what kind of shampoo the washer used but she didn’t like it. Plus, I’m pretty sure they didn’t do my keratin deep condition treatment that was part of the Groupon.
Seriously, I am SO unhappy. I came home and about bit my husband’s head off because it put me in such a bad mood. Wen you grow your hair out SO long and then it’s gone without you knowing it because your back is to the mirror, it is very upsetting. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning, even to get my color fixed for free. I would not recommend this place at all.

So this place is not budget friendly. The actual price of my services (minus my groupon) was probably in the $ 300s. Still I got to live it up for one day and enjoyed getting my hair highlighted and my mind entertained by Kerian. She is not only a skilled stylist but a philosopher and a talker. If it annoys you when your stylist is yapping away she’s not the one for you.
I still think she’d manage to open up even the most closed off person. She’s charming. She took my dark brown hair and gave it life with a smattering of fine highlights. Really she took my outgrown highlighted hair and made it brand new… which can be hard to do. And then she fixed it up so I had sex kitten hair… at least for that night. I’m the laziest of lazy and my hair will never be as good.
As for the quarters, the salon is kind of bland and not very exciting to look at. They have plenty of trashy mags to fill your hours. There is a nail salon in the back that was dead on a Friday afternoon. The customers that trickled into the salon were mostly financial men looking for a trim.
I would come back here if my budget allowed. I hope there is a groupon in my future!

Ask for Kerian. Went to Zoog and she managed to fix what another stylist at different salon had wrecked. She probably gave me the best haircut of my… Ever. Best haircut ever.
The girl that shampoo’d me could tell that I had a keratin treatment just by looking at my hair and after she confirmed it, used sulfate free shampoo. Points for asking. High five for knowing.
I got an actual consultation with dry hair before they sent me to get washed and I got what I wanted. No, I got what I never dared to want, but always wished for
