The service was great first of all. The server was kind and quick. We ordered the pad thai chicken and drunken noodles w/shrimp. I feel like both noodles could of came with a little bit more of chicken & shrimp. But the taste was great on both entrees and the price was fair

Had the best red curry of my life here. It took a while for food to come out, but I took it as a good sign that they were taking care in preparing it. All my friends loved their food too. I would definitely go back. The waitress seemed somewhat spacey and disinterested. Cash only is annoying. They have an ATM.

Had a tasty pad thai. Quick service and nice waitstaff. Will be back especially to try the red curry with bamboo shoots.

This Thai restaurant has great, cheap lunch options. You get either salad or soup plus your choice of entrée for under ten bucks. I’ve been a few times and have never had to wait for a table. The service is pretty quick too. I’ve ordered the Eggplant Basil Dish and Fried Rice — both were fresh and tasty. My friends ordered Pad Thai and other noodle dishes, which looked good from across the table. I haven’t been here for dinner, but would be willing to try it out. They have brown rice which I dig since it makes me feel like a health goddess. Small caveat is that it’s cash only, so come prepared.

I went for dinner with my husband on a Saturday night, with no reservation. We were quickly served and the food was good. I highly recommend drunken noodles with tofu. The pad Thai with tofu wasn’t anything special though. The portions are very big. It’s a cash only restaurant.

My favorite thai place in NYC! I love their pad thai, and recommend going for lunch for the special(cheaper). Thai iced tea is also really good. Reminder though, this place is cash only.

In an effort to introduce my boyfriend to new flavors, we came here last week, and I’m so glad we did. I ordered a dish with vegetables, tofu, noodles, and a peanut curry sauce. It was spicy, but I thought it had the perfect amount of heat. It was a very balanced meal and wasn’t an overwhelming portion, but wasn’t a skimpy portion either. My boyfriend had the green curry dish. It had a bit of a warning on the menu about its spice, but woo wee! It was a little overpowering. Overall, though, he really enjoyed it — but maybe next time he would ask for a little less spice. The décor was also our style — laid back but nice. Nothing overly ornate, but clean and simple. Some industrial-style lights made the ambiance exactly what we were looking for. :)

I visited this place for lunch and had the green curry chicken. My lunch came with a broth that was suprisingly delicious. The broth had what I thought tasted like it had hints of lemongrass and basil. The meal was good the curry was spicy but not overpowering. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere was good. I can see myself visiting this place in the future.

Excited to try out this Thai place because I had heard amazing things about the food. i tried their shrimp spring rolls and curry shrimp soup bowl. The soup bowl was huge and delicious for only $ 9!!! We tried the sake mojito, lychi martini and spicy mango margarita which were also delicious. However the service was terrible if existing at all. Our waitress was short handed and could not handle her tables. I had to go to the bar to finally beg for my drink after my food had arrived. This place is also cash only so please keep in mind!

With a vast array of Thai places around NYC my expectations are always high. Had the duck spring rolls which had nice flavor but we’re lacking any punch. The pineapple fried rice was full of fresh veggies, but could have used more flavor. The cashew chicken dish had complex flavor and depth, but had only a few prices of chicken and was mainly peppers. Overall a good spot, but definitely not my first choice for NYC thai.

Galanga is like a warm hug of familiarity. Like when you squeeze a well missed relative for the first time in ages — all the love comes rushing back to you and you just feel good. The chicken pad Thai has never disappointed — this can sometimes go very wrong if you know what I mean. The curries are a belly full of excitement and there are a number of other appetizer awesomnesses(crispy duck). It’s all very affordable and two people can easily eat for 40 dollars — walk away happy Buddhas. The reason it doesn’t get a full 5-Star rating from me is that the cocktails are not awesome and the servers, although proficient, are a little matter of fact if not totally disinterested at times but that can be good sometimes so just up to you.

So I needed some food to take with me on my bus trip to my church retreat in Connecticut last Friday. I was tired of getting sandwiches and fast food for these trips so I stopped in here around 5:10PM. I asked for a to go order of beef with satay sauce. About 5 minutes after I ordered I was given my bill My food came shortly thereafter. My only complaint was they put my rice separately. I asked if they wouldn’t combine it into one container. They said they couldn’t because they had not bigger to go containers. The one with the beef was filled.

The service is good at Galanga, the Thai iced coffee a nice summertime treat, and the best time of day to go is late afternoon(around 4:15pm) before the dinner crowd streams in. My favorite entrée is Shrimps In Clay Pot [$ 14.00 is the price in 2015], a satisfying meal over cooked vegetables that will keep you busy chewing for quite awhile. Appetizers are a mixed bag at Galanga, however. For example, Rocket Shrimps [$ 6.00] are huge and a good value. But, unfortunately, the Seafood Ceviche Thai Style [$ 9.00] is over-priced and underwhelming; the bowl is mostly filled with shredded red onions and slices of Spanish onions, little fluffs of salad, ONE piece of calamari, 2 small shrimps, and ONE scallop so tiny it can fit under your fingernail. Don’t waste $ 9 on that. If you love ceviche as much I do, then go to a place that really knows how to prepare it correctly. Bad-back-alert: though some seating is banquette style and some chairs are standard, several tables come with low, backless stools. If it’s crowded, and you get stuck on a stool, this is not the most comfortable way to sit for many diners. Yes, it’s cash only — and I don’t see why people have posted complaints over this policy. If you are an adult, you should have at least $ 30 in your wallet, which is more than enough to buy your supper at Galanga. Be aware that in nice weather, Galanga opens the windows and doors — and since people do smoke outside on the sidewalk, the tobacco odor will sweep in and linger over the front tables.

We had a big rowdy dinner here after a book launch party and I don’t think our servers appreciated our volume and enthusiasm. But we had a great time. The cocktails were strong, the food pretty good.

The food is great and so is the service. I walked in and was greeted and seated in a timely fashion. I ordered 2 appetizers, grilled whole squids and shrimp cucumber salad and an entrée, Grilled sea bass. The grilled squids are well done and slightly crispy with shallots as a cushion with vinaigrette sauce on the side, it’s a solid 5/5, I finished the whole dish with glee. The shrimp cucumber salad is a tangy flavored affair, sweet and spicy, good but overwhelming toward the end so next time I’ll request for the dressing on the side, 4⁄5. The grilled sea bass is wrapped in a banana leaf and served whole(which raised my eye brow as I’m used to filets) with a small portion of rice. To my surprise, the bass isn’t flavored at all, say for a small dish of condiment served on the side, I tried to finish but it’s just not my fancy, 3⁄5. Service is consistent as I was checked on every 10 minutes and the smiles from the servers didn’t hurt either, will return when I’m visiting the village again.

The somtum here is good, it’s not spicy at all. It’s composed of green papaya, halved cherry tomatoes, carrots, and some raw green beans. I enjoyed it. The duck egg rolls were okay, they tasted strongly of duck meat. I didn’t like the mango and sticky rice here. The mango cubes were mixed in with the sticky rice. For some reason, the sticky rice didn’t taste that good.(I much prefer the version I had at Zabb City.) I would have to try more dishes to give this place a more precise rating.

I’d say this place serves less than average Thai food. I had the Thai fried rice and it was petty bland. My friends had the drunken noodles which they also didn’t really enjoy. The place was pretty empty while we were there. Nonetheless, the servers kept hovering around us eager to give us our checks and have us on our way. That doesn’t happen when 4 chicks get together after a while to catch up. That was pretty annoying. I wouldn’t go back here.

A cozy little Thai place with reasonable prices, conveniently located right next to Washington Square Park. Cash only, but there is an ATM in the restaurant. We came in around 5:30 on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Service was quick and friendly. I got the Cinnamon Noodle Soup with Duck($ 9.75). It was a very generous portion and had a great broth. However, the duck was more fat and skin than meat, and very chewy. We also ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, which was ok, but needed more seasoning. I’d be interested in returning for some of their lunch specials!

Two friends and I came in on a Friday night at around 6 and we didn’t have to wait for a table. They have plenty of tables and a downstairs section(though I’m not sure what’s downstairs. I THOUGHT I heard karaōke but maybe I was just hearing things). I had the Koy-Teeow Garden Noodles, which was basically plain pad Thai noodles with tofu, carrots, cucumbers, basil, ground peanuts, and your choice of pork loin or grilled chicken breast. You also get a side of fish sauce(?). I couldn’t tell if the sauce was really spicy, or if it was because I had just tasted my friend’s SUPER spicy drunken man noodles. Now, I’m not usually a huge pork fan — but I don’t really like ordering chicken breast at Thai places because they usually come out pretty dry. So I decided to take a chance on that pork. And I’m glad I did. It was thin, but not dry at all. The dish is a pretty big portion so I wish they had served it in a bigger bowl. I couldn’t mix everything properly so I just took a bite of each of the components. And each time I would dig around, I would find something new — like the cucumbers. It was almost like finding a buried treasure! Normally, when I go to Thai places, I would order either Pad Thai or the Drunken Man Noodles — so I’m definitely glad I stepped outside the box this time.

My girlfriend and I originally had planned to a vegetarian restaurant that was unfortunately closed for the day on the other side of the street. By chance, we stumbled into Galanga, wet from the rain and hungry for some good lunch. We were not disappointed. The host was very welcoming and the waitress was very attentive. I believe we both ordered a lunch special which came with soup and salad which both had great flavor. The Soup was something similar to a miso soup with cilantro leaves on top. I loved it. For an appetizer, we got the Sweet Corn Fritters which was amazing. First time we had such an entry and they came out fresh and hot from the kitchen. It also came with some dipping sauce that was a little sweet and sour(similar to those you would get with curry puffs). For entrees, my girlfriend ordered the pad thai with tofu and I got the Drunken Noodles which had a big helping of egg on the top. I thought portions were quite decent but just a bit on the smaller side for my entrée. Nonetheless the lunch special is a great option and value in Manhattan. I’m very glad to stumbled upon the restaurant and hope to come back again!
