Food is amazing, wow. This place is so authentic. Lomo and pollo salteado was great!

Turns out this place was found to have several health violations which include a filthy kitchen. I saw it on the local news last night!

Poor place. Very bad service, and the dishes are poorly presented as well. I wouldn’t come back to this place.

Great divey chifa– Peruvian cuisine. And really authentic! I come here often and have never been disappointed in he quality of the food. Definitely consistently good! Sometimes they are out of items, but there are over 100 dishes on the menu, so just try something new! You won’t be disappointed. Heads up they don’t speak English, but just point to what you want! The arroz Chanda (Chinese fried rice) is delicious and they have amazing ceviche! Best kept secret

Great food and great chifa peruvian style!!! The lomo saltado with fried rice is the best is my favorite. Don’t forget to ask for the aji which has great taste. The location is great and the service too. The ambience and décor can be better but the food it is what matters. So overall great place to eat.

For the most part it isn’t very full of people, but it does get packed at some points. The food here is very, very good and authentic.
Although the food is great the service isn’t so great. Sometimes we’re literally the only people at the restaurant and the server will be behind the counter on their phone and forget we are there until i either call them over or get up to ask for something.
My favorite things here are the duck, and the Jalea! Ufff Jalea is a huge mountain of just seafood! Served with a side of their homemade hot sauce and limes! This dish is made to share so I’ll usually go with a friend and man we will get super full from this dish!
I definitely recommend for a nice Peruvian dinner one night.

What this restaurant lacks in presentation skills and attention to detail, it absolutely makes up (and more) in terms of taste, originality, and desire to satisfy its clientele.
Peruvian/​Chinese food is Peru’s Sunday food, mostly because mom is not cooking that day but most likely because the house maid has to get at least ONE day off. In other words, Sunday is the de facto day to rest across the board and everyone goes out to eat (or orders take-​out) on Sundays, and that makes everyone from Lima an expert in this type of cuisine. Having been raised in Lima, and because of my seniority, (ahem), I know Peruvian/​Chinese food very well. When I walk into any of these ethnic restaurants, I can’t help not to ask for dishes that are not on the regular menu. Think of going to a Japanese restaurant and asking to see the Japanese menu. Same applies to Chinese restaurants and dim sum.
The first time I came to Chifa Don Jose, I got tallarin saltado (lo mein) and chi jau kay (breaded chicken in oyster sauce). The meat in the lo mein was seasoned really well, the sauce was good and the noodles weren’t overcooked. I specially liked the amount of vegetables used, one of the reasons I like «real» Chinese food. The chi jau kay (chicken in oyster sauce) was also well made, and the sauce was perfect. It was very good, although the lo mein dish outshined the chicken by far.
Knowing that this was a reliable Chifa, and that the food was good, I started to frequent this place. Of course, the second time that I showed up, I asked for «off the menu» items. I asked for a chicken noodle soup. Not on the menu, but easily made. This soup is a version of a ramen soup, much lighter, but equally delicious, and full of vegetables. More importantly, I made sure the portion was large, just like a ramen bowl. Needless to say, the soup hit the right spot.
On subsequent visits, I have followed the same pattern. They have made egg drop soup for me, fish chunks with lemon and Chinese cinnamon dip, vegetable egg foo young, among other things.
But that is not where my madness stops. On my most recent visit, I asked them to make a dish for me. I asked for fried chicken chunks with Chinese vegetables in an oyster sauce. Of course, this is not just oyster sauce, they add anise and other aromatics to it, and «my» dish was just delicious. Outstanding.
That is when I had a revelation. If this place paid attention to detail, refined the flavors, changed the décor and improved the service (Oh! Yes, one person runs all the tables), this place could be the next best thing in Miami. No doubt about it. But of course, you need someone in tune with America’s food trends, Miami’s idiosyncrasies, and that magic touch that differentiates a great restaurant from a bust.
Until then, I will keep coming here, talking to the staff, having them cook stuff out of my imagination, and enjoying some good Chifa.

No stars if i could!, the food taste nothing like peruvian like food! Calamari was more like fried rubber, lomo saltado tasteless, and i tried their chinese rice that had no flavor… Sorry but would never go back

Nice place in the neighborhood. Relaxed and laid back. We ordered two things fish ceviche and fried fish in hot sauce with white rice. The food tastes just fine and service is good. Quick dining place. As per the location close to the university price for every dish is little high. It is a very good location the restaurant can really do very well if little bit improve on food taste and ambience. That will make it a gem in neighborhood. Note: 15% Gratuity is pre added which makes no sense to me what if I want to pay 18% or 20%;)

Best peruvian/​chinese style in south miami.
I persinally love the soups, specially the fuchi fu soup.
If u r looking for more peruvian style then u have to tey the shrimp causa.

I’ve tried to find a lomo saltado dish that compares to the one found here, but nothing compares. The lomo saltado is the ONLY dish I’ve ever eaten from here and it’s probably the only one I ever will. It’s amazing.
I recommend getting the food to go if you live nearby, because eating inside isn’t the best experience. There’s usually employees or employee family members sitting at the tables doing schoolwork or playing on a computer. There’s also always been a Spanish-​speaking soap opera on the television, loud enough to drown out any casual conversation. The place isn’t dirty… but I wouldn’t call it very clean, either.
Another downer is that they automatically add a 15% tip. Given that I’d normally tip 20%, it saves me money, but I don’t think a tip should be included on a «to go» order.

You want the strips of beef on top of the french fries with the fried rice (lomo saltado). I wish I had some right now…

I’ll start with the good: Chicha Morada aka purple drank. Never had it before, and it’s fantastic. Rich and sweet, not syrupy, with faint grape flavor and a consistency that makes it more than just another drink.
Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was not as good. I really just wanted a snack, so I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu. I don’t know if I don’t like Peruvian food, if the dish I ordered was a mistake, or if I don’t like Chifa Jose Antonio, which makes it difficult to accurately rate this place. This being said, the meat was bland and boring, it came with fries, and their were no vegetables on the plate. I left feeling like my tastebuds had just done time, feeling severely nutrient deprived. Probably not going to come back, but take it with a grain of another ingredient my meal was lacking.

I find this a great place if you want to eat Peruvian-​chinese food. So let’s keep it clear: This is a good option if you want to try Arroz Chaufa or Wanta Soup, not for other kinds of Peruvian food. For instance, don’t expect to have great hamburgers in a Sushi place, even if they have them on the menu. (since some people complain about Yucas, and «sudado de pescado», but they don’t mention the actual Chinese-​Peruvian dishes).
Customer service is very good. The environment is very pleasant and the decoration is very similar to the Chifas in Peru.
I definitely would go back.

The best peruvian food in miami so far!!! i went there the last week and was really good everything, we ordered Arroz chaufa and Lomo saltado and papa a la huancaina, and was delicious, I can’t wait to come back again.

I see no reason to be sad that the Chifa restaurant on 125 Ave. and Kendall Dr. closed down, because I think that this restaurant is much better. The Chifa on Kendall Dr. was always packed, but this one is always pretty empty when we go there. I don’t know why, because the food is very good. The Lomo Saltado is the best out there that I’ve tried. My wife loves the dishes with fish chunks, they have just the right amount of saltiness. You can’t go wrong with any of the fried seafood dishes either, they are excellent. The menu is quite extensive, there are a lot of dishes on there, so we haven’t come close to trying everything.

I ordered «sudado de pescado» (fish stew) which was served with white rice. The broth was salty, almost inedible and had no depth. It tasted like salted water with a hint of fish.
I don’t see a reason to go back to this place. Plus, it’s expensive. Prices are the same if not higher than Ceviche 105 and neither the service, the space nor the food can compare.

I’ve been meaning to get back on board with actually writing reviews instead of just checking-​in to different spots, and it saddens me that this restaurant must be my come-​back review. Unfortunately, I was compelled to write the following:
As many of you know, I am a fan and avid frequenter of Peruvian restaurants. Having recently moved out of the Gables, I was eager to find a new place nearby to satisfy my craving for great Peruvian food. I found my fellow Unilocalers had raved about the chaufa and boasted the best «lomo saltado» in town, so you know this had to be my next stop!
The «ceviche de pescado» was excellent! The chicken chaufa was nice, although I’ve had much better at Aromas de Peru. They do have rocotto sauce on hand, but they charge you $ 1.50 for a thimble-​full! I must say, fellow Unilocalers, I agree, best lomo saltado I’ve tried. At this point in the meal, I was thinking…“atmosphere could use a little sprucing up, but I can live with it. The ceviche was good enough to come back, considering it’s fairly close to home, all in all, I wasn’t totally wow’ed, but I could have come back.” Then we got the bill. Here is where things went downhill for me. Not only did they automatically add 15% tip to my bill without mentioning it (which not only lost them points, but also $$$ because I usually tip between 18−20%), but then when I took out my check card, I was told by the owner to head back to the register with her and enter my pin number! Even the girl at the cash register was a little thrown!
I’m sorry, but I left with a really sour taste in my mouth, and it wasn’t the lime juice from the ceviche! Next time I’m craving Peruvian, I’m going elsewhere. Shame. Treating your customers like hooligans is the best way to lose them.

This was my first time at a Peruvian-​Chinese joint.
I ordered the following:
Fired Yucca– Nice portion, sharable for two or 3 people (we asked the owner/​waitress how many could it feed and she couldn’t or wouldn’t give us a straight answer, odd right?) The Yucca was fried but not breaded and the yellow sauce was pretty good, had a homemade taste to it with a slight spicy kick.
Lomo with chufa (i think that’s what it’s called) rice– The Lomo was ok, it was not salty or over-​cooked. The onions were not red but white, dunno if that’s intentional due to the Chinese version of it but it took away the classic Peruvian flavor i am used to. The rice was just like a Chinese fried rice, not bad but whatever… nothing out of this world.
In summary, the food was «Meh. I’ve experienced better»
Customer Service was fine till the end of the dining experience. The bill came with Tip included which was not mentioned anywhere in the menu or before ordering. Then we were asked to walk up to the cashier and forced DEBIT on us like we were some hoodlums (No kids here, all in late 20’s early 30’s).
Don’t worry, i won’t come back or recommend this place to anyone.

Been there twice, day one we ordered chopped fish in Minsi sauce, ceviche and desert… It was awesome but there is always an exception to the rule. Desserts are extremely pricey… Anyway it was great food at a great price

Day two we ordered fish in sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was not good but the fish was excellent. We also ordered Yuca a la huincaina and it was great. Higly recomend the Yuca and avoid the sweet and sour. price still reasonable.
FYI: The owner is always trying to push extra food so beware… portions are decent in size.

Let’s get this straight, I’m giving This Chifa 4 stars based on what I like. I wish I could do 4.5 stars, but no can’t do. The Lomo Saltado is THE BEST there is out there. I’ve tried many places, and this one takes the price. I love the owner, classic Peruvian-​Chinese second generation lady! Chifas are very popular in Peru, and Jose Antonio is a great place. Stick with the Lomo Saltado and any Chifa dish, the Arroz Chaufa (fried rice) is awesome, also don’t forget to ask for Nabo Encurtido, you’ll go crazy for it!
PS: The name of the restaurant might be different when you get there, I KNOW, weird!

I had Chinese-​Peruvian food — since a chaufa has pretty much become a staple at most (if not all) Peruvian restaurants. But I didn’t realize that I have never gone to a fully Chinese-​Peruvian restaurant — a chifa — until I came to Don Jose (aka Chifa Jose Antonio).
And from what I’ve come to understand, there’s only two well known Chifas in Miami — Don Jose and Chifa (in Kendall). There may be more out there under my radar — I’ll have to find more Peruvians to track the other one down!
At Don Jose, the menu resembles Americanized-​Chinese cuisine that was popularized back in the 70s that makes me think of Chop Suey. Of course, it doesn’t say that anywhere in the menu — but the idea is nearly the same — everything seems to be fried — although it may be my fault due to my ordering. Fried wontons, pork chicharrones, and fried rice. The only dish that I didn’t have that was fried was the chicken in black bean sauce.
Fried wontons were okay — it was mostly the fried wonton and there were little of the filling. Pork chicharrones were good — served with lemon pepper sauce (although it was with Chinese cinnamon here? Quite interesting). Fried rice special had a bit of everything but mostly chicken were found in the mix (maybe because they also advertise pollo a la brasa? They must have a lot of chicken). The chicken with the black bean sauce was tasty — although I’m not sure if there were that many chicken pieces since they went fast (but then again, it may be my tummy’s fault here — I’ll have to pay closer attention!)
The portions were large, the prices were $ 10 — $ 14 a plate and is made for sharing. Ambience very basic, basic service was given by a nice Chinese-​Peruvian lady — don’t expect any frills here. No lemon for the water, bathrooms did not have paper towels, etc. This is your typical hole-​in-​the-​wall chifa. As if it was in Peru.

This place is way too good! growing up, i hated peruvian food, my parents loved it and would pretty much force it down my throat. Chifa Jose Antonio quickly changed my mind and now im i love. Their «lomo saltado» is so dleicious, steak on top of french fries on top of fried rice… i couldnt beleive what i was eating. the service was incredible, the owners great you, sit you, talk with you, and bring out the food to you. after eating there i went to many other Peruvian restaurants and its clear that Peruvian food is the best in Latin Cuisine.
