Kevin Wendt grew up in Lake Tahoe moving to the East Bay as a Senior. He graduated from Antioch High School in 1984. His 3 brothers & their families, mother and father all live in Martinez. Kevin is a regular at Thursday night Bocce and volunteers at Access Adventure in Susuin.

Kevin not only works for himself but he is called on by many other licensed contractors to assist in their needs because of his proven customer satisfaction skills.

Kevin trained under many reputable Heating and Air Conditioning companies before starting his own business. He was taught by example to do things right the first time and to make sure that the service and equipment being installed was the best thing for the customer.

Living in Martinez, I wanted to support a local contractor so I chose Wendt Heat & Air. In the end, it was clearly the wrong thing to have done. I will admit Kevin responded quickly, but he started by replacing parts that did nothing. Then he had to start calling his friends for ideas. He finally said the compressor was bad. He said he had to get the compressor under warranty from Trane and it would be a week. We were going to be gone for two weeks and gave him permission to go to our house and replace the compressor. He said it would be done within a week. 2−½ weeks later, he hadn’t done anything. He was too busy. Finally I strongly suggested he come out and finish the repair and he did. As soon as he was done, he grabbed his check and high-​tailed it away. At that point, I wasn’t going to post anything… just let it go.
The air conditioner ended up performing miserably. We sweltered in the recent hot weather and I ended up going with a friend’s recommendation to use JB Air out of Pittsburg. John did a thorough analysis, told us we had too many filters, which was restricting airflow and icing the compressor. He then checked the level of R-​14 refrigerant and found that Kevin under-​charged my system. He used the minimum amount based on a short line and it wasn’t enough. John evacuated the refrigerant, checked it for leaks and recharged it fully. I now sit comfortably in my home, and not in 80 degrees as before when Kevin fixed it.
I heard excuse after excuse with Kevin and he didn’t fix it. I got results immediately with John at JB Air and the system works!

I really wanted to give Wendt’s a better rating, but alas, Kevin let me down. Last week during the heat wave, our a/​c stopped working. I called him Thursday morning and a chipper and polite man answered the phone and told me he’d come that morning to take a look. I wasn’t in, but my relative let him in. He texted me a little while later to tell me «Your ac is in bad shape can I come back when your husband is home so I can explain.» Thanks for playing the sexist card… I can’t possibly know a thing about air conditioners. My dad only worked on them my whole life, but I’m a girl so clearly I’m dumb about mechanical things! He talked to my husband and said he would come back that afternoon to repair our a/​c. Never showed up, despite repeat phone calls and text messages. While my family and I were sweltering in our home (including an 8 month old baby) he was probably enjoying his air conditioning. I called multiple times on Thursday (as did my husband) and texted him twice. Finally heard back from him Friday morning, he was too busy to fix our a/​c. Bummer. I wanted to use a local guy and give him some business, but he doesn’t deserve it. I knew Kevin too, his son and my nephew used to do Cub Scouts together. Clearly he cares more about making a buck replacing units that repairing them.

Finally, air at last! I was referred to Kevin (the owner) by a family friend and couldn’t be more pleased.
My unit had completely died on me. I was really worried I was going to have to replace the whole thing. Luckily, after Kevin came out, he told me that only a part needed replacing. He promptly got the part and installed it for me the next day. He was honest and fairly priced. You never know when someone is trying to get over on you and I felt confident with Kevin.
I can tell that he is really busy because he had several phone calls while he was installing my part. Based on some of the previous reviews I think I can understand what they went through. I don’t think its intentional, however. It was actually kind of funny that he mentioned he’s looking to hire someone for the front office to help with calls and appointments. I happened to refer my aunt for the job (so random).
I got a free assessment of my unit’s overall performance, as well. Turns out my furnace is a piece of garbage too. I guess when the time comes, I’ll be calling this company once again to ensure efficient, reliable service!

I called Kevin to do an estimate to install an air conditioning unit and he made an appointment but he never showed up, nor did he call. I called him and on the third call he finally answered. He made another appointment to do an estimate at the house and he never called, nor showed up.

I’ve used Unilocal for years, but this is my first review and I signed up specifically to give a review for Kevin and his crew at wendt heating and air! Firstly, Kevin (owner) is extremely friendly and professional and we are beyond happy that we chose him!
1) OUR JOB: new furnace and ac unit in the attic as well as ducting and needed gas/​electric lines relocated or installed. We live on a steep hillside and placement of condenser required cutting concrete etc.
2) QUOTE PROCESS: was able to come within a day or so and gave us a detailed quote through email super fast! As compared with other reputable companies that came out and did quotes for same job… we are still waiting on their quotes and the job has been done for a couple months now! Quote was beyond reasonable and we never felt like we were being ripped off and we are the bargain hunting type that are more likely to go DIY to save a buck!
3) GETTING JOB DONE: Kevin and his guys were fast and hardworking, always respectful and didn’t make me feel as if my home was being taken over by strangers. Very personable and even got me a mother’s day card because I am pregnant with my first baby. Of course this isn’t related to job but just shows how good of a group of guys they are! Job took ½ day to 1 day longer than expected but only because our old house has lathe and plaster covered by drywall which made things a little more time consuming. HVAC is a dusty job but they always cleaned up as best they could every night, even trying to go way beyond in my opinion and wipe up counters baseboards etc. Work is guaranteed and he even offered to come back and show/​explain everything to my husband since he works out of the country. Couldn’t have asked for a smoother job or a nicer guy to do the job. Very happy and enjoying my cool house right now: D

We called Kevin this morning about the through-​the-​wall air conditioner at our son’s place. By the end of the day we had a new air conditioner installed. We had called some of the bigger names, but they said they don’t work on through-​the-​wall air conditioners. Kevin went above and beyond with his work since the new unit didn’t fit exactly in the wall cutout and put in some very nice trim work. We definitely would recommend him to any family or friends.

Kevin Wendt re– did our entire HVAC system during a remodel. He was fair, honest and very hard working. He does not waste time and is there as soon as he can be when you need him. All the materials were quoted in the cost, which was very reasonable. In the past year he has helped us with numerous jobs working on various rental properties. Our renters have also only had good things to say about him. He has come out to help modify our system to enable more air upstairs into our son’s bedroom for no charge. He even gave me a Carbon Monoxide detector after he realized I didn’t have one in the correct location! Very friendly, very professional, and highly recommended.

I’m not really sure how many stars to give here so I’m just going middle of the road. The day after I wrote my review Kevin emailed me with my estimate saying that he didn’t realize receiving my quote was such an urgent matter that it couldn’t wait a week and that he was «bummed» by my 2 star review.
From my perspective, I’m going to pay several thousand dollars for equipment to be installed in my house and I want to work with someone who communicates effectively and does what he says he’ll do. Simple as that.
He wrote me a 2nd email saying that his reviews reflect the work that he does, not his office work. I get it. I’m sure his work is fantastic. But THIS review is based on the quote process, not the physical work done. I don’t NOT recommend him, I just chose to go with someone else and wanted to share my experience.

Great customer service! Called Kevin around 11 am and he said he could come same day. We were leaving at the time and asked for the next day. He was available and also said he lived local as well. We asked if he could come around 6 pm when we got back as I didn’t want my aunt to be without heat for the night. He came over and assessed the situation for free. He was so friendly on the phone and in person as well. Very professional and considerate. He didn’t have the parts needed on his truck but could do the job the next day as scheduled. He gave a very fair price and finished the next day to complete satisfaction. I must add that he kept his dinner waiting to accommodate us. He now has 2 future customers!

Short Summary: Excellent HVAC contractor.
Longer Story:
I hired Kevin Wendt (the owner) to replace duct work to 3 of my downstairs registers. Our duct work was an old flex tube type that had been torn apart by rats. We had very poor air flow to the three ducts. Kevin came out to my house and looked over the work to be done and gave me a very reasonable estimate.
We agreed on price and set a date for installation. Kevin and his employee came out to the house and completed the work within part of a day. We saw fair improvements in the air flow, I paid for the work, and Kevin and company left for their next job.
Though the improvement in air flow was good, I still had some concerns I thought should be addressed. I called Kevin and he was immediately responsive, even though he had already been paid. He set a date to come back out and address my concerns.
Kevin and his crew came back out to my house and reworked the duct work to allow for improved air flow. After completing the work, the three ducts pushed air like a hurricane, a huge improvement in air flow and efficiency.
As I write this review, it has been over a month since the duct work was completed and we just received our first PG&E bill. The bill was 1⁄3rd the amount for the same period year-​over-​year. I was amazed. The duct work will pay for itself in less than a year.
Kevin is an excellent contractor and I highly recommend him to friends and neighbors. He stood by his work (even after being paid) and addressed any concerns I had.

I called three companies to replace the furnace ducts in my El Sobrante home. All three arrived, two provided estimates (one didn’t call back) and Wendt was less expensive and seemed more knowledgeable. My research indicated everyone used the same ducting material (flexible with bubble-​wrap type insulation already in place) so the difference was all labor cost.
Kevin and one helper (Tony?) did the whole job in a long day — not even a break for lunch! Then they took away all the old ducting and left everything clean.
Each duct has a baffle at the furnace so I can adjust the flow at the furnace as well as with the vents in the wall. This allows me to even out the temperatures in the house. Previously, the rooms furthest from the furnace were colder than the rooms that were closer.
My impression is that Kevin is a genuinely nice guy so I gave him a pass for being chronically late — he missed our first appointment (for the bid) and had to reschedule another one so you might have to be flexible. Because he’s willing to help people with furnace emergencies, non-​critical work may slip a little. I’m happy to support that behavior, but if you are on a tight schedule, you should probably let him know up front.

I called Wendt after receiving a letter stating I have to pay for some HVAC repairs on the building I lease. I thought the repairs sounded a little fishy and called for Wendt for a second opinion. Sure enough it really does sound fishy and now I have some facts to take to my property manager

My AC compressor was dead — Kevin answered the phone on a Saturday morning (the previous 5 places I tried didn’t answer!) and said he would be there within an hour.
He arrived 45 minutes after the call, fixed the issue (bad capacitor) in about 10 minutes.

Kevin is very professional and provides prompt and reliable service at reasonable prices. He arrived promptly to install a new compressor and kept us apprised of each step in the process. The job took various hours and we finally had cool air again. Kevin even came back within 2 days to install a coil in the attic to ensure a fully functional system.
